I want to start this review of Electric: The Finale (Book 6) with a quote from the book that sums up what happens to Gina and why it happens (at least in my opinion):
“She was someone to be reckoned with for the first time in her life, she saw her own potential and it was limitless. All she needed was someone to believe in her, and now she finally had someone.”
It jumped out at me when I read it and stayed firmly lodged in my mind. For this right here is what I think makes her behave the way she does – and what motivates most of us. How many of us endure abusive partners, agree to toxic relationships, surround ourselves with certain people or do certain things because we are looking for validation? How wonderful is it to feel appreciated and understood, to have a purpose and support?

Once again, the author takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and shares a wealth of interesting information. The right mix of meticulous research, emotional sensitivity and a gripping storyline makes this book as strong as the previous ones, if not stronger. Sometimes I found myself wishing I had gotten more of a glimpse into the ‘celestial’ workings of the spirits and guides, but then I remembered their important role in the previous book and settled down. And they do feature again in Book 6 and have some intriguing things to share which had me ruminating long afterwards.

The plot picks up around New Year’s Eve after Gina has fled from Reggie, and the net Don has been weaving around her grows tighter and tighter until she is fully ensnared. Sometimes he seemed like a spider to me indeed, cleverly hiding and biding his time only to swoop in at the right moments and reel in his prey closer and closer so he could finally swallow her up. He and all the scheming around him are truly disturbing and probably much too realistic, for I am convinced what seems so ‘crazy’ sometimes in the book is nothing but harsh reality. In this regard, Book 6 is an eye opener. Carly Compass shines a light on how people deal with grief and challenges, on how they use religion and cultural as well as political and financial controls to shape society.

Here’s a second quote that resonated with me and highlights another theme of the novel:
“I cannot understand why people of the earth cannot […] treat women and the earth with the respect and reverence that they deserve.”
Throughout the whole series, the author repeatedly makes the reader see just how much women have to suffer in our modern society, and how much of this also pertains to the environment and world in general.

The novel ends with the ominous sentence “It’s for the best”, and that got me thinking even harder. Don’t we all say this to ourselves when we do something we don’t like? But is it really for the best? Who decides what’s best for us, and who sees the ‘truth’? I believe the author has brought the series to a tremendous close with this novel, but I can’t help wondering. The ending – while perfect – leaves so much to think about and the possibility of another book. And I think that’s part of what makes this whole ride so enjoyable and admirable – there is no ‘forcing my truth / own beliefs onto the readers’, despite the plethora of information. The readers are left to wonder and ponder for themselves, and that’s why each book in the Electric series has made such a big impression on me.

If you enjoy thought-provoking stories that deal with matters of the heart as much as with how this world might work and how each of us willingly and unwillingly succumbs to some form of manipulation, I can highly recommend the whole series to you. It almost has a dystopian feel to it sometimes, but there is also an appeal and hope lingering between the lines.

This is the final book in a series that has taken readers on an amazing ride in this world and beyond. I love that the character of Gina has evolved and become stronger. I liked the way the author has taken readers on a life journey and also added a bit of a supernatural leaning to the books. I am sad to see the series end, but have to say this final read was the most amazing of the bunch.

Final parts to a series can often prove disappointing. By the time people have read several books, the author is obliged to meet a whole variety of expectations, a very hard task to achieve.
Electric, The Finale brings to a close the journey of Gina Parrot; from a struggling, working mother in small town America, to the world of the super-rich. However, this is not a predictable rags to money story. Instead we witness a careful deconstruction of a family and an individual. One aspect that I particularly liked about this book was although you could foresee how the story might unfold, it was crafted so well that it was a delight to see how it was executed.
In many ways, this final instalment is an introspective story that picks up on the style of the first book. The pace slows, providing time for the reader to appreciate Gina’s perspective as her life is taken over by Don. You, the reader can clearly see the danger to her family whilst also understanding why Gina allows it to happen. I became so thoroughly caught up in this unsentimental tale, I missed the start of an important meeting.
Do I have any gripes? Perhaps, at times, the book is a little too focused on its introspective nature and the subplot that takes place in the spiritual world, seemed not to contribute to the plot development.
For me, book 6 stood out for two reasons. It is an entertaining story in its own right and it skilfully brought the series to a conclusion. Wish I could say more but I don’t want to spoil it for you.
Finally, a word on the series. These are short books and at one point I wondered why they were not written as a single story. The whole would have been shorter than some other books I have read. However, on reflection, I think the author was right. Separating them meant that each could take a new direction, keeping the series fresh and alive. Whilst I have not given every book five stars, as a whole the series definitely merits top ranking.
