Virge is in Montana with his nephew after his sister is tragically killed. After attending a reading at the library where sexy Jared is filling in for his brother in kids' reading room, D's therapist suggest an outing to Jared's ranch to see if it will draw the little boy out of his shell. Virge and Jared are immediately attracted to the other but each fights their own demons. Both try to work through it all so that hopefully they can become a family.

I've had this tbr for about a year now and decided to read the sample. I was a little leery since it was $3 for not even 100 pages and was a new author to me. But the sample grabbed me so I bit the bullet and bought it.

I was sure this was going to be a good solid 4 star read for me up until about 50-60%. Then things just started happening at warp speed. This had so much potential to be a great story. Like I said, the sample grabbed me right away and it was going good. I wish the author had taken the time to keep writing and dragging out some of the scenarios. Too many things started happening with each quickly dealt with and moving on to the next. I was so frustrated because it was really a good story. I just needed more writing, more pages. I loved both mc's and the side characters (except shithead Blake). I am really interested in Nate, Jared's brother, and what's up with him.

So overall, 3.25 stars because I did enjoy it but it just needed more.

I don't know if it was Jack Raleigh's narration or me jumping in at book 3...but it felt like there was too much going on, in such a short story, that left a lot only superficially explored and I just couldn't connect with anyone. Also, all those characters were hard to keep track of.

I adored this story, I’m such a sucker for hot guys with kids. In this one, we have Virge, who’s raising his sister’s son Donovan, or “D” as he’s affectionately known as. D, has been having trouble since his mothers murder, which he witnessed and has become mute and had other psychological issues, as one would being a three year old who watched his mother be killed. Still, Virge put his life on hold, at work especially so he could move to Montana and get D the help he needed with a well-known therapist. He’s also a writer of a very popular book series that keeps him doing well…..On a date to the library for some reading time, Virge and D, meet Jared.

Jared is taking over reading to the kids at the library for his brother Nate who got the flu on the day he was due to read to the kids. Now, here’s where I messed up, see, because I wasn’t aware that these were all part of a series so Jared’s family also has stories and it would’ve helped, had I read them before hand because there were a few times where I didn’t understand who we were talking about, like Wyatt and Rafael or Gabi and Sam. I’m also very curious about Nate because even though he’s a bit obnoxious, I have a feeling he’s got a lot of baggage that I’ll wanna read about, something about not being able to have kids, maybe? I’m not sure, yet. But, I’ll look into it : )

Now, Jared and Virge are extremely attracted to each other and D becomes very close with Jared. I loved that, like I said… I’m a sucker for a hot guy who’s great with kids. Unfortunately, Jared’s got an ex-closeted, cop who seems to be out to cause him some trouble with Virge and D. And he does, he causes a bit of a stir up… I couldn’t stand him and I knew immediately who was behind it all. I was kind of disappointed that we didn’t get to see what happened to him, after all that he’d done. I mean we know he lost his job and his wife, but I dunno…. For all of you who read my reviews, you know I need me some karmatic justice… I hate when the bad guys get away with being bad guys and even though we did see the ex get into a little trouble or get found out or whatever, he just kind of disappeared after that.

The ending was so very sweet and I loved so much the way everything turned out. I loved how big this family was and how much they’d do anything to help anyone out, especially their family and the people their families cared about. It was a very sweet read and I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye out for Nate’s story!

4 stars frome me.

‘Jared’s Family’ is set on the same Montana ranch as ‘The Gift’ (Wyatt’s story) and ‘Sam’s Temptation’ (Sam’s story), and this time it is Jared’s turn. As the third brother, he is right in the middle regarding age and, like many middle children, is not sure about his place in the world. That changes when he meets handsome black ex-homicide detective Virge and his traumatized nephew D, now under Virge’s guardianship after D lost both parents. This novella tells the story of both men’s efforts to help D and how they fall in love in the process.

Virge is determined to help his nephew recover, and since three-year-old D stopped speaking when his mother died, therapy is of the utmost importance. It’s the reason for their move from LA to Montana, but it soon turns out to be a good change of scenery for Virge as well. Virge may have been a homicide detective, but he is also a writer and his books have taken off to the point that he has been offered a movie deal. Virge has no intention of telling anyone; the last thing he wants is to be a celebrity.

Jared is a cowboy, the middle brother who keeps their family together, and not really interested in kids. That changes when he meets little D during a reading at the library, but it is the boy’s father Jared is interested in. Virge may be fifteen years older than Jared, but Jared couldn’t care less. After escaping an emotionally abusive relationship with the town’s deputy, all Jared is a man who respects him and stands by him.

Both men have secrets – and the slow discovery of what they are added a level of tension to the story that kept me turning the pages. Their attraction is strong but their romance faces quite a few obstacles (internal and external) as they struggle to figure out if and how well they fit together. Jared’s nasty ex has a role to play, and I did not like him one bit! I loved the balance between family love and budding romantic feelings, and little D is just adorable!

If you like hunky cowboys with a heart of gold, if an uncle who takes over raising his sister’s child selflessly and without hesitation is your thing, and if you’re looking for a light read with a sweet romance and a touch of suspense, then you will probably like this novella.

Jared’s Family is just the right balance of sweet and heat with a few touches of drama along the way. It’s a quick read, but still has characters to whom you’ll grow attached and want to see get their happy ending. And adorable little D? He’ll steal your heart as well.

I really admired Virge for how dedicated he was to his nephew D, while still trying to balance his professional life. Jared was perfect in the hot yet sensitive and caring cowboy role, and I adored how attached D became to Jared so quickly. Both Virge and Jared have their own secrets (doesn’t everybody?), with Virge’s causing a bit of commotion once his comes out. I like that their relationship wasn’t insta-love—even with the shorter length of this book—and that everything between them felt natural.

There are some great supporting characters, in particular Jared’s brother Nate who you can’t help but want to hear his story after reading this one. I’m also intrigued for Rafael and Wyatt’s tale, which I’m definitely going back to read after this. The Malone family is wonderful with how they pull together and protect their own. I would have liked to have known what happened with Jared’s ex to find out if he got what was coming to him after everything that happened.

Jared’s Family was a very good read, for me the only thing I would have liked was to have the story a bit longer. Regardless, it’s still a solid 4-star read for me, and I’d recommend it to any M/M romance fan. This story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and M/M sexual content.

I enjoyed this book, but I thought it was too short for all the different storylines happening. There wasn't enough time to wrap everything up and in the end some of the subplots felt hurried and a bit incomplete. The writing was good, but the pace was off and at times the story felt choppy.

The characters were all very likable. Not just Jared, Virge and D, but the secondary characters of both Virge and Jared's families. They added a depth to the story. My favorite character was Jared's brother, Nate. There is something in the story that alludes to more, perhaps. I really hope Nate is at least bi and gets his own story.

The book was good. The story entertaining and exciting, but it needed to be fleshed out a bit. Virge and Jared had a good chemistry and the sexy times were passionate and hot. The book is jam-packed with heartache, healing, laughter and love. Recommended!!

I read this book in a few hours. Jared's Family is a sweet M/M romance that is perfect for anyone looking for a quick romance that will make them feel all the warm feelings.

Virge and Jared are so sweet and cute together, and little D was the sweetest little boy I ever read about.

There are some hard issues that are talked about in this book, however this novella is not about that. This novella is about two men who find love in an unlikely time in their lives, but isn't that the best? When you find love when you least expect it, and it just works. It's a healing love.

Virge, D, Jared, and the rest of the Malone family will get into your heart and make you feel warm on the inside.

This was a very sweet story about an Uncle, devoted to his nephew who finds help on a ranch in Montana.

Jared’s family is wonderful and so helpful – sweet if not 100% believable – and they serve as a terrific place for D to find a family to heal the one he lost. Virg is smart enough to recognize the help they offer and also unable to keep his eyes off Jared.

Jared’s past is a little dark- but it doesn’t take much for him to try again – with Virg.

There is a bit of a dance before the two MCs find themselves kissing and a few bumps as the evil ex tries to make their lives difficult – but most of this is really pretty angst free and smooth sailing.

There are some plot threads that got mentioned but not developed: their age gap, the Dom, Virg’s police job, Jared’s deaf friend… but what we do get is light, sweet and fun with a little bit of sexy thrown in!

Highly enjoyable!

This is a new narrator to me. Sometimes, it was hard to tell what words he was saying as his pronunciation wasn’t always crystal clear. I appreciated his efforts at trying unique sound effects and trying to give every person a unique voice, but, unfortunately, I didn’t always understand the accent or inflection choices he made.

In the end, his voice is nice to listen to and I think – with time and more experience – he could turn into a really excellent narrator.

For now, it wasn’t my favorite, but I definitely didn’t feel like stopping due to his narration.

After the tragic death of his sister, LAPD detective and author, Virgie is now the guardian of his nephew D. D suffers from selective mutism, to get him the best help available, Virgie finds a wonderful therapist in Montana. He takes a leave of absence and he and D move so he can have the best treatment possible. Upon the suggestion of the therapist, he takes D to the local library where a very attractive cowboy is reading to the kids. D is instantly taken by the cowboy which surprises Virgie.
Jared is doing his brother a favor by filling in for him at reading time at the local library. He notices a very handsome man with a little boy sitting on his lap. He had no idea the impact he had on the boy, and also the man.
Virgie tells the therapist about the library experience and she suggests that they go to the cowboys ranch, when they get there he is surprised that the cowboy they are looking for isnt the same one that was at the library. Jared comes around and D is overly excited to see him again, and honestly so is Virgie.
Of course it takes a little for Virgie and Jared to get together, and once they do it is HOT!!!
Jared’s past comes back to haunt them, and with it digs up Virgie’s secret as well. Once that was all over they were finally able to get their HEA.
I really enjoyed this book. However there were times that i felt like the flow was a bit off. I know that there are two other books in this series but I didnt feel lost at all in that respect, it seems as if each book is based off a member of Jared’s family and can be read as a stand alone. There was some information given on one of Jared’s brothers that makes me believe that he will be the next book.

I give this book 3.5 sweet stars.

Virge has uprooted his life for his nephew. D hasn’t spoken since witnessing his mother’s death and his best chance to heal is in Montana. But has moving to Montana given Virge more than he anticipated?
Jared’s Family by V. S. Morgan is a great read. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Jared and his family. I mean, who wouldn’t love hot cowboys with hearts of gold? D has attached himself to not only my heart but also the Malone family. I loved the kindness Ms. Morgan gave us with this family. They didn’t know Virge or D but opened their home to them. I loved seeing Jared learn to trust again. He was hurt and had more than physical scars to overcome before he can give his heart to Virge. I loved that both Virge and Jared had baggage. Virge’s may have been a bit more obvious but Ms. Morgan did not allow his pain to be the only focus in this budding relationship. I enjoyed seeing D come out of his shell even as his Uncle put aside his fears. This story is full of emotional depth and love. I thoroughly look forward to reading more from this author.

A Joyfully Jay review.

I liked Jared’s Family just fine. Virge was a hero to me. Here he was, a single man stepping up to take in his toddler nephew, bringing him all the way to Montana so he could get proper therapy, and even though he occasionally felt overwhelmed, he kept fighting the good fight to keep and adopt the boy. Jared was heroic in his own way as well. After one meeting, he feels a pull toward Virge for sure, but he’s willing to help him with D…bringing him out to the ranch, introducing him to his family, and doing things like teaching them about horses and ranching. Little D was precious and heartbreaking. He’s only three years old and both of his parents are dead. He’s having to adjust to life without them, and the poor thing was just overwhelmed.

Reading about their coming together was a pleasure. It happened rather quickly, but Jared’s Family isn’t a long story, so things did have to move at a faster pace than if it had been longer. Their feelings are strong, and I enjoyed reading how Jared fell for D almost as hard as he fell for Virge.

Speaking of D, I like how he was written. Children in a romance novel can be hit or miss. Sometimes, they’re so precocious, and so bratty, they’re unpleasant to read. On the other hand, sometimes they’re written to be too cute and too sweet and it can make your teeth hurt. Morgan found the right mix with D, and I was impressed by that.

Read Kenna’s review in its entirety here.

4.5 Stars, if I could...

> > Judging a Book by it's Cover < <
Interracial M/M romance, western elements, daddy-figure element. Caucasian male appears to be about 10 years younger. The cover has many things competing for attention and the colors are rather riotous and busy. Although it may catch the eye, the overwhelming information it tries to present at a glance could also work as a deterrent. The synopsis, however, really sounds good and it was that which attracted me to the story and convinced me to give the book, and author, a try.
> > Looking Deeper < <
POV ~> Third-person.
Almost immediately, I find a soft spot in a commonality between D and my oldest child, who also had a blue teddy bear named Boo Bear. Her Boo Bear is now in a keepsake box and - at 24 yrs old - she still considers it a cherished belonging.
Virge is a LAPD homicide officer as well as an author writing under a pen name. When his sister is killed while out with her son, he is given custody of the boy. Traumatized by witnessing his mother dying, Virge takes a leave of absence to obtain the help of a renown child psychologist in Montana. Jared is the middle of five brothers. He helps in the operation of their working ranch. At a chance meeting at the library, young "D" is drawn to the cowboy in a powerful way. The attraction between the men is no less magnetic.
Toss in a nasty ex, some paparazzi and loving family members and you have a wonderful cast of characters that make a truly enjoyable story.
Author's writing style is incredibly smooth. This story flowed wonderfully. There was just enough conflict to give it some deeper dynamics and the epilogue provided a solid, satisfying conclusion.
I would definitely read more from this author and recommend it to anyone who likes M/M with kids. Super sweet, lovable D will win your heart as much as the lead men will.

Jared’s Family by V.S. Morgan
3.5 Stars

Virge is an author and an L.A. Police Officer who takes a leave of absence when he gains custody of his nephew, Donovan or “D”, after witnessing his mother’s death. D is traumatized and stops speaking for the most part. He uses basic sign language to communicate. Hoping to help D, Virge takes him to Montana for therapy where they both meet Jared. Jared and his brothers run a horse ranch and the little boy instantly likes Jared. It doesn’t take long for Virge and D to be invited to stay in one of the guest houses at the ranch.

I liked this book. I liked Virge and Jared. Jared’s family is hysterical and their dynamic is the stuff one only reads about in books. D is a sweet kid who is too young to really understand why his mom was taken away from him, but thankfully has always had a very close relationship with his uncle Virge which helps considerably. The romance in the book is good and Virge and Jared get their HEA.

Now for the reasons I only gave the book 3.5 stars. There are way too many plots going on for such a short story. There were so many loose ends at the end of the book that I was left wondering if maybe I didn’t receive the full ARC. I honestly had a problem with D calling every man he likes “Daddy”. That just seemed really weird to me. Also, how did D learn sign language well enough to be able to communicate? How did Virge learn sign language well enough to communicate with D? And why did Virge have to go all the way to Montana for therapy for D? Are there really no qualified therapists in Los Angeles?

3.5 – 4 Stars

This is a very sweet and loving story that showcases the power of love! It is a short story, so it’s a quick and heartwarming read, but there was a part of me that wanted a bit more. It felt like there could be so much more to their story, not that I didn’t enjoy it, I definitely did. Virge and Jared are great characters and D just makes the story even more special.

Virge and Jared seem very natural together despite their differences and I loved how easy their relationship was. I also really enjoyed the way they dealt with issues together, and that includes Jared’s whole family. They really are a close family that takes care of each other. I loved Nate and his craziness, it was a perfect balance to D’s serious issues and traumas.

Overall, this was a sweet story that will touch your heart. I really enjoyed it and would love to see more of these characters in the future!

I really enjoyed this M/M novella. This was a very sweet story about love, heartache and loss. Virge moves to a new town with his little nephew who has recently witnessed the death of his mother and is traumatised beyond repair.
When Virge and Jared meet there is an attraction and an instant bond between D and Jared which was heartwarming to say the least. These men find each other when they least expect it. Two very different men with their own baggage and a broken kid. I really enjoyed the chemistry between the Jared and Virge and I adored reading about the side characters from both families, all of which were so well written that I am looking forward to seeing if the author will write a book for each of the brothers.
There was a lot going on in the book at any one time so for me it would have been amazing if it was a full book instead of a novella because I felt some of the storyline was a bit rushed. But in saying that I feel the author wrapped up the ending of the story really well.

This is the first book I've read by this author. An I really enjoyed it. It was a quick heart warming story.

Virge is a cop and he never expected to get the call that his sister had died. He never even thought that Donovan witnessed it. So he takes time off from the LAPD and goes to Montana to make sure D is getting everything he needs. Virge never expected to meet the hot dreamy cowboy at the library. Sometimes the unexpected is the best thing that could ever happen.

Jared is the middle brother of five brothers. He's the glue that holds them together. Since their parents death all the brothers have taken responsibility for the ranch. They all have their own ways but Jared is the peacekeeper. He's also had a hard time with an ex that just won't go away. Jared is insecure because of what his ex has said and done. He's fighting demons that can't help but put fear in him of another relationship. But sometimes letting go is the best thing.

Virge and Jared both have secrets. Secrets that could hurt both of them. But when they put the fear behind them and start living how they want, beautiful, loving, sexy relationship is what the get.

These two men deserve each other. They each compliment each other. They are just simple beautiful together. An I hope we get Nates story next. I have a feeling that one will be a heartbreaker.

(3.5 stars)

Virge is in Montana with his nephew, D, seeing a therapist that specializes in children that have PTSD. Virge got custody of D after his sister was killed, all of which he watched. Now, he is trying to get D healed so that they can move forward. When Virge meets Jared, D sees something in him that makes him special, and D starts to open up more with him.

Jared is happy working on the ranch surrounded by his family, but there is something missing, someone special to love. When Virge and D come to the ranch, Jared is definitely interested but decides to take this slow and not rush. When their timeline is rushed just a bit and secrets come out, will Jared still want to take a chance on Virge or will it be too much too handle?

So this is a short story, and this would have been so much better if the author had made this into a full length novel. There is certainly enough going on to fill the pages. There was so much going on that I felt the romance was rush and didn't really get a good feel for the characters. I give this 3.5 stars.

If you're a fan of MM romance I would highly recommend reading this book. It's a fast read, but enjoyable. It's a make you feel good story with heat. You can feel the connection between Jared and Virge. Virge is great, taking care of his nephew alone will win your heart then add in how he is with Jared. Virge's nephew has gone through a lot, but to watch him blossom under the Malone family is truly beautiful. Jared and Virge do have their hurdles to get through if they're going to have a future.

This was awesome short read. We meet characters that are both have been hurt in the past with relationship. With the smallest of angel be able to bring them together. The difference in what they do make the story more intense. The suspense between Jared and Virge will keep you glue to the pages until the end. Little D will pull at your heart strings and has every one eating out of his hands. Highly recommend this book

Great characters!

Jared's Family is a really cute sweet book. I loved the characters, even the supporting characters brought light to the book.

After Virge's sister dies he is left to raise his three year nephew. The terror of losing his mom, Jared takes the little boy to Montana to work with a professional to get him help. When the two run into a cowboy at the library suddenly has the boy smiling, Virgil hopes that the little boy is finally healing.

Jared has his heart broken and is learning to start again. When he sees the gorgeous dark man with an adorable little boy. As he starts to get closer to them his heart starts to open again.

This is a really cute book. I really liked Jared and Virgils story. This was the first book I'd read by this author and it was great. I will definitely be checking into more of her books.

Jared´s Family by V.S. Morgan is a contemporary m/m romance novel.

Meet Jared Malone and his brothers who live in rural Montana.
And Virge Stevens, a 43 year old author and LAPD Detective.
Virge is the guardian to his young nephew.
They meet and the sparks fly. There is a insta- connection. They like each other very much. This book has it all: hot steamy sex, hurt, great emotions and love.
Life could be so good but everything is not sunshine and roses.
Trouble looms. Does a jealous ex split them up? And what about the little boy?
I liked this book, like really liked it. It is a sweet sweet m/m romance novel with a wonderful HEA.
Thank you V.S. Morgan!! 5 Stars because: " Love conquers all. "

Jared's Family is a sweet M/M romance, set in Montana. Virge goes there to try and help his nephew, and gets more than he bargains for when he sees Jared filling in for his brother as the Reading Wrangler. The attraction is instantaneous for both of them, although they both have baggage from the past, so neither act on it immediately.

This is a well-paced and smooth story, that will keep you turning the pages as D wins over more than a little piece of your heart. Of course, it helps that Jared and Virge are steamin' hot too! Well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow, this is a wonderful book, and I would love to read more about the Malone family. Definitely recommended by me.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *

I’m listening to the Audible version, but can’t be bothered trying to add it to the library database right now.

Not quite boring, but rather dull. There's no great excitement of any sort, barring the car accident, in this story.
