Can a summer fling turn into forever? There are a few things that Anna Lynne is sure of. Tea should always be abundantly sweet and served over ice. Summer has its own symphony of sounds. And anything would be better than staying cooped up at the Yacht club watching Mom cozy up to a new man so soon after Daddy died. When she meets Will, with his slow voice and bright eyes, Anna Lynne thinks he’ll be the perfect distraction until school starts in the fall. She doesn’t expect her time with him to make her question her Southern princess identity, and she certainly doesn’t expect to fall in love. But their summer romance ends in heartbreak and it’s another ten years before Anna Lynne returns to the small town where she left her teenage heart. As she revisits her memories of those few life-changing months she spent with Will, she can’t help but wonder if her first love could be what forever is made of.
Having previously read Ms Claire's Gathering Water trilogy and mostly enjoyed it, I was happy to continue our reading relationship. The only thing this book had in common with the trilogy is that it takes place on the North Carolina coast on one of the offshore islands. Other than that, this was mostly a rehashing of a late teen relationship that fell apart ten years ago. When Allie returns to her grandmothers home to live with her sister, revisiting her time and experience of ten years and how she lost her great love.
This is miss Claire’s first dip into the contemporary romance genre.I think she did beautifully and am excited to see where she goes from here. I was lucky to get a last minute slot to beta read this book. In fact, if I’m able, I will always volunteer to beta for this author cause she is so talented. Oh my gosh, I just realized, she was the first author I ever beta read for!
I really like the timeline of the story. The flashbacks broke it up in to little bite size chunks for me. And I love that we get to see the past catch up to the present, I was getting giddy to see how it would play out. I may have mentioned this before but RC has a way of bringing levity to a serious story without losing the impact of it. It’s not easy to do. The climax really stands out to me as one of her best sequences. It was just written fantastically.
I totally identified with Anna Lynnes rebelliousness and her anger. I felt betrayed with her. I kept thinking, “Its like I’m reading about myself” And I loved how she was affected by Will. In a positive way.
He was such a great influence on her. Will was solid. That’s the best word for him I think. He was not afraid to tell you how he felt and while sometimes he came across a bit over-cautious, I admired his convictions. It’s just a sweet story about second chances at first love. And it is a prefect read for V-day!
Anna Lynne was a good main character, but meeting Will definitely helped her be a better person. There were some tough issues addressed in this book, but they were handled well and I think they were done in such a way that a second book could be done for some of them. After finishing this story I really want to read Landon's story, if he ever gets one. He was a fun secondary character and think a story about him would be a great read. If you enjoy contemporary fiction, I think you'd enjoy reading Sweet Tea and Summer Love.
Moving, romantic and sweet. I loved it and would recommend it to everyone. The book was fabulous with lovely characters, intriguing plot and a flowing prose. Check out more awesome books at http://readdayandnight.blogspot.com
4.5 stars -- BETA READ!! So much of what I love about this author from her paranormal series abounds in this fabulous contemporary romance. Fabulous characters, some great sass, and so much growth and depth.
While this is an amazing (mature) young adult romance, it is also a bit of a coming of age story as well. I loved the unique way in which it was told, with adult Anna Lynne telling the story of her summer of first love to her younger sister. The narrative jumps back and forth between Then and Now, and it felt seamless, b/c you got to see Layla (her sister) reacting to the story, and occasionally see hints of what was to come.
Anna Lynne was an intriguing character in herself, b/c she's struggling with her grief, and changes in her family, and we're sort of seeing the aftermath of some earlier rebellion. Her world has been changed, and not just that, but the way she sees the world and what she wants out of life. So she wasn't what I was expecting in the beginning, but I grew to love her and how she grew over that summer, and even beyond.
Will was super swoony. Just, I can't even describe it, he was just sweet, and charming, and protective of his sister, and admirable. He wasn't without his flaws, but he was just a guy on the cusp of manhood dealing with way more responsibility than he should have.
The romance between Will and Allie (as he calls her) is just spot on perfect. It gives you all those young adult butterflies. You can just feel them falling in love. And it's not all perfect, Anna Lynne is awkward at times, and it's just funny and satisfying and all the good stuff. All of it.
And the story is not without its share of heartbreak that turns everything on its head. And there are hints that something happens to suddenly end the summer, but even with the foreshadowing, it still hits you right in the feels.
And finally, the secondary characters!!! Ms. Claire knows how to nail secondary characters so that you want to hear more from them as well!! Her grandmother and her younger sister were fantastic, and so fun and sassy in their own right. Will's pretend cousin (you'll get it when you read it) Landon was just HILARIOUS and I could just picture him perfectly. And Will's sister Jill played just as important a role in Anna Lynne's summer, and I loved seeing their friendship develop as well.
So basically awesomeness. Go forth, buy, read, enjoy. Thank me later.
Regan Claire is back and with a killer book! I don't know how she does it, but Regan's stories are like coming home. She has a way of sweeping me up into her world and making her characters become a part of my life.
Anna Lynn is a southern princess that has everything life has to offer - until she loses her father. But, spending the summer with her Grams gives her more than she banked on. Young love, a new best friend, and time away from her mom is just what she needs until the unthinkable happens.
Read this book, it will make your heart soar and break at the same time.
Sweet Tea and Summer Love is the now and then love story of Will and Anna Lynne. Their love carries them through time. Their story starts at the summer club. Anna Lynne just suffered a loss in the family and Will works at the club. Their eyes meet and the connection was formed. Anna Lynn is from one side of town and Will is from the other. But they both have their own stories to tell. Throw in his sister and best friend and that party begin. There is mention of adult topic, that are touched on in a healthy manner. The author also provides contacts at the end of the book which I think speaks volumes for me. Overall, the book is about summer love, new friends, and how love can stand the test of time. I hope you enjoy Sweet Tea and Summer Love as much as I did.
Sweet Tea and Summer Love is an amazing young adult romance novel. I truly enjoyed reading this book. Claire does an superb job in creating a unique plot line. I like how she created characters that are life like and realistic. The setting is a must for this story and Claire managed to pull that off effectively. The story is based on Anna Lynne telling her sister about the summer with her first love. There is a lot of jumping back from past to present but it helps in telling this lovely story. The love between Will and Allie (what he calls Anna) is swoon worthy making it the perfect summer love. However, this story does have its ups and downs it helps to blend the story and characters into one. I really enjoyed this story and feel the author done an outstanding job!
The book got me since the beggining. I really like the timeline of the story. I think the romance between Will and Anna was perfect, you even at some point start to ask ¿How this romance could even end? (well it happened to me) then you know that was for something pretty serious, they wasn't at their best moment, and they need some time to mature. I love the way as they meet each other later (I love her sister) was so cute. I'm hoping there will be a second part with Landon's story. I will recommend this book to all my friends, and to all of those that love good love stories! to me you got a 5/5 stars
Sweet Tea and Summer Love was beautiful. Reagan Claire did an awesome job of setting this story in the present, but having flashback scenes as the main part of rhe story. It was very well written, and it was easy to tell where present took place and past took place as it is clearly labeled. Two sisters talk about a past summer, and the older of the two tells the younger what exactly happened the summer when was 17. It's a coming of age telling, and it touches on a hard topic, but it is eloquently done.
I've been in a reading slump lately. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, we've all been there. I've probably started and stopped over 20 books in the last 3 months, indie and traditionally published, and I just couldn't connect. I finished this book in 5 hours. I read it while I cooked the kids dinner, I read it in between washing heads of hair, I read it while pretending to listen to them ramble about dinosaurs. So thank you. Reading is truly my only hobby and you gave that back to me for 5 hours at least.
I appreciate the way you presented the more sensitive aspects in the story and the resources provided at the end.
There were a couple random capital letters, mostly formatting stuff. I was enjoying the story too much to really nitpick the grammar/syntax, which is a huge compliment because I am usually a grammar nazi =]
I would have enjoyed learning a little more about the side characters and Al's backstory, but I guess I'll just have to wait for their books.
5/5. Will definitely read again and suggest to friends.
I loved the bite-sized and easy-to-follow timeline of this book. There was a great amount of characterisation and I adored the relationship between Anna Lynne and Will.
