A day out with Squishy could never be boring! When Squishy and Ava go on a trip to London, they can't resist the chance to explore the palace, but when they accidentally find the Queen, will she be able to see how wonderful Squishy is?
Pip was born in Cheltenham, UK, where she spent her childhood gobbling up books and dreaming about being an author herself. At the age of 19, she began a career in journalism, writing and editing for local and national newspapers and magazines. After the births of her daughters, Pip began writing for parenting magazines and websites. In 2012, she won the inaugural Greenhouse Funny Prize, with a series of stories about Squishy McFluff: The Invisible Cat, who Pip had based on her elder daughter's 'real' imaginary kitten. The first book in the series was published by Faber Children's in 2014. Pip's first picture book, Daddy's Sandwich, was published by Faber Children's in May 2015 and was shortlisted in the Sainsbury's Children's Book Awards Picture Book category in the same year. Pip continues to write the Squishy McFluff series, and a raft of new titles are planned in the coming three years, including three further picture books, and a new young reader series. The book is based around Ava the main character having an imaginary pet, I like how this teaches children to be imaginative. I also like how the author has incorporated rhyme
Ava's family (and of course, Squishy McFluff) are going to London for a holiday. While Ava's dad nurses a blister and her little sister gets fed, Ava and Squishy decide to go on in the palace and see if they can find the pampered pooch they've heard about. But when they also run into the Queen, how will she respond to Squishy McFluff?
If you have read any of Squishy McFluff and Ava's chapter books you know that this could've ended in disaster. The two of them loose in the royal palace should've probably set off MI5 alarms or something. But Ava and Squishy behave for once, and the Queen's response is charming. A cute story done in excellent rhyme. Recommended for little cat lovers, fantasy fans, and adventure fans.
Squishy McFluff the Invisible Cat takes a trip to London and gets to visit the Queen! I had so many imaginary friends when I was younger, and I think Squishy McFluff would have been one of my favourite picture books as a child, so I hope my little one learns to appreciate these stories as much as I do. She was a little bit distracted - the colouring is quite pastel, so compared to some of the other books that were featured in the story time it wasn't as interesting to her - but I think that's something that'll change as she gets older, because the slightly older children at story time were overjoyed by Squishy's adventures! Such a simple but brilliantly effective idea.
This book has wonderfully bright and colorful pictures. It has a delightful story about a little girl named Ava with an incredible imagination she has a cat that is invisible to everyone but her. Ava is going on a trip to London to see the sights and wanders near the castle where she sees the guards. Somehow she finds her way into the castle where she meets the queen. Ava attempts to have the queen see her cat who can't see it either but is so impressed by the idea of an invisible cat the queen invites the girl to dine with her.
This is a great story to read to really young children to encourage their imagination and have fun on adventures with their families.
Cute, but rather odd. A little girl and her imaginary cat sneak into Buckingham Palace and meet the Queen and her corgi. Usually, I am down for hilarious, implausible storylines, but the cat being invisible was just odd, as was the sneaking into Buckingham Palace and everyone being totally fine with it.
Ava and her invisible cat are characters based on the lower-grade, rhyming novels. In this picture book adventure, Ava accidentally meets the Queen, who is delighted with her invisible cat and invites Ava to tea.
