Chasing Treasure: Granite Lake Romance

Rate this book
"Exciting, steamy, romance that's heartfelt and entertaining!" – New York Times Bestselling Author Nancy Segovia

After spending the winter apart, Treasure can’t stop thinking about her former paramedic partner, Bodie Everett. But, with her unfortunate history of dating, and an overwhelming fear of commitment, Treasure doesn’t know how she’ll react when Bodie returns from Wilderness School. Or, if the irresistible and sexy, Bodie, wants to continue where they left off back in December. With a ridiculous suspension from her job as a paramedic and a flooded apartment, Treasure heads to Granite Lake and back to her childhood home — a rundown apartment and a garage packed full of motorcycles.

Now that Bodie has new Search and Rescue certifications under his belt, he’s ready to move forward with his life. He hopes that includes a relationship with Treasure. After an unforgettable night together, he can’t seem to shake her from his head or his heart. He’s ready to take their friendship to the next level, but his intruding family members have their own agenda. Opening a brewpub with his brothers, joining the Mountain Division of Search and Rescue, and the surprise return of his ex-fiancé complicate and distract Bodie from chasing and catching Treasure.

***Chasing Treasure is the follow up to Unwrapping Treasure - A Granite Lake Romance Novella. Chasing Treasure can be read as a stand-alone novel.

I would say big DNF, but recently I have acquired the skimming powers of a Super Hero.

Court Prescott. That should have been a huge flag to their sexual incompatibility. His name sounded ridiculously pretentious to Treasure, even though he didn’t come across that way. And who names their kid Court, anyway?

Someone who would name their daughter Treasure?

A dangerous combination of bitchiness and TSTL with the heroine and the lay-down beta H.

“Bodie,” she swallowed the rising lump in her throat. “I need you to stop calling me. “It’s gotten too real for me, Bodie.”

She paused, thought about hanging up, then went on.

“You aren’t finished with Vanessa. And she’s not over you. To be honest, I think you should take her back. “You know how I told you about growing up with only one parent? Well, it was horrible. Not all the time, but a lot. It was beyond hard. Miserable. Kids need two parents, or some kind of supportive family. Vanessa fits in with your family. More than I do. Ask your mom. “I’ve been thinking about this a lot. The kid needs a dad, Bodie. You’ll be an amazing father. I am blocking your future with her, so I’m stepping out of your life.

THIS after the poor hero has expressed his dismay time and time again his idiot of a mother and idiot of an ex will not stop hounding him. He makes it VERY CLEAR he doesn’t want the ex, but the heroine, ugh, the writing…Ugh.

So. Big DNF!!!!

I basically skimmed through it so I decided not to rate it!

I just couldn’t like it despite elements I like being present here.

Strong independent sexually confident heroine- check (she carries her own protection)
Hero without a whorish past or a string of ONS under his belt - check (in-fact h may have been his first ONS, and only because he didn’t have a say in it. He was so unused to unattached sex he doesn’t carry condoms)
Strong chance of H staying celibate during first separation while h wasn’t - check
H falling in love with h and not knowing whether he was coming or going - check
Hero’s brothers respecting and LIKING h vs respecting but barely tolerating his ex fiancé - check

Despite ALL that, I skimmed and I’ll have to say it’s a DNF. Why? HUGE drama lama! Like real housewives of Melbourne! Who are apparently not even housewives, or married, or even in relationships! My life is a lie!!!

Anyway. I digress.

*SPOILERS*

H’s mother was a skanky dickhead in her youth and dumped H’s boy next door father for a polished “man”. Except too little too late realised she comes in a package of buy one get one free! Polished man didn’t want the baby bun, and whaddya know the Mumsy apparently ALWAYS loved H’s father and came back to him when he welcomed her with open arms after her playing the fields! She has been happy and content and IN LURVE ever since. (Who would like to bet H’s father stayed celibate, distraught and probably took to the bottle when his love left him and was probably thanking every star that she came to him instead of abandoning the baby and would put up with everything she asked? Yes, he was that kind of man!) No. it has got nothing to do with the fact that the guy she left the dad for didn’t put up with her whim and drew lines at kids and she came back to the guy who would do anything for her. No. It’s definitely love.

Now why do we need to know this?

Oh, you see, H had a fiancée who dumped him, got a new boyfriend and the boyfriend died. Now poor girlfriend who mumsie loves to pieces, is pregnant! Yes, it’s not Bodie’s. Pffft, minor details. Bodie doesn’t love her? You’re joking right? That’s not even a blip in her radar. What matters is this is history repeating itself and she can practically taste the results! Vanessa the ex LOVES her son, made a small mistake of dumping him and getting involved with another guy and getting pregnant, but now she’s back. Bodie will do the right thing because he’s the good guy, and used to love her, that’s more than enough, and take her back. She’ll make sure of it. Because she’ll take Vanessa and follow Bodie and Treasure around, interrupt them during sex if necessary and throw Vanessa in the middle. The. She’d take and remove treasure from the scene physically. “Thanks for keeping my son occupied darling, Vanessa got it from here”. then she’d sit her son down and would be like “Bodie, really boy, suck it up, your dad did it, why wouldn’t you?“ she takes the term gal pal to the next level!

God! It was exhausting! Do you know what was worse? Bodie! He was a respectful and nice guy. But a pushover nonetheless! He didn’t chase Treasure the two times his mum pulled this shit. He gritted his teeth and tried to either go through the conversation or calmly explain they’re over! But he NEVER set boundaries with his mum. Never told her there will be consequences and never just said fuck it and chased Treasure. When both Vanessa and Treasure ended up in hospital, we as a reader know he wants to be with Treasure, he is trying to sit with Treasure, yet when she wakes up, for all she knows he’s crying over Vanessa’s bed because his mummy is making him call Vanessa’s relatives. Up until 99% of the book he’s still looking after Vanessa. His brothers called him different names and though Treasure didn’t blame him, she wasn’t sure of him either.

Also, no, there was NO hashing out with his mum. His mum, who blatantly disrespected and insulted Treasure, never made and appearance to make amends. He still didn’t set boundaries and nothing was resolved.

And then there was a whole lot of other drama I couldn’t pay attention to because of the above!

First of all I would like to thank the publisher for sending me a copy.

I really ended up enjoying this. I felt so bad for Treasure in this book. Everything bad that could happen to her did. Thankfully she had Bodie with her to help her get through. Since we've been introduced to the characters of the next book I'm definitely looking forward to reading it.

I voluntarily reviewed this book.
It was an okay read for me. The writing was very good, the characters well developed. Treasure was a very interestingly tought-out heroine. Her upbringing left her quite a bit rootless in the world. She was brave and loveable but had a hard time to let anyone in. It was very hard to read how alone she was in the world. I liked how Treasure got closer to her childhood friends again. I liked Bodi very much. Liked how he didn't want to chase Treasure away and although he knew he wanted more with her still treaded carefully. I also liked how he stood up for Treasure at work. Bodi's mom pi$$ed me off. She was very prejudiced towards Treasure without taking even a minute to get to know her. It was just rude but Treasure took it in stride. It seemed like even the cosmos was against Treasure and Bodi.
What I didn't like was only the pace of the story. It felt too slow for me. Months pass by in the timeline but Treasure and Bodi manage to personally meet only a handful of times. I usually like more interaction between the main protagonists other than a few messages with double entendres and constant longing. But this is only my personal preference. On the other hand I can see the passage of time was absolutely needed for both of them to grow and to reach their individual pontential for going on with their life but as a couple.

Chasing Treasure is a great story! Treasure and Bodie were friends and EMT partners for a couple of years until Bodie decided to get his wilderness search & rescue certification. The training took him away for six months. Right before he leaves they have one hot, steamy night together. They both miss each other but don’t talk about their feelings while Bodie is away. They text all the time and flirt, but never talk about what they really want. While he is away, Treasure makes a bad decision that affects her job, which leads to a string of bad luck. Between that and her feelings for Bodie she feels lost about where her life is going.
Treasure’s never had a real relationship before and she’s not sure if she can emotionally handle one with Bodie. While they are trying to work things out, Bodie’s ex-fiance and his mother team up and get in the way. This only confuses Treasure more. After the last interference, she walks out and ends up in a confrontation with the ex. It’s a great dramatic scene, seriously. Great drama, a little cat fight, and a great twist. I won’t say anymore as I don’t want to give any spoilers. You have to read the book to find out what happens with that and with Treasure and Bodie.
This is the first book I have read by this author and it was great read. I will definitely be reading more of her books. I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

Treasure Hope lived in Reno and was an EMS. Treasure and Bodie had been partners for two years, but Bodie was away for mountain training and rescue. The Christmas before Bodie left, he and Treasure had spent a weekend together. They have been texting and flirting while he is away. Treasure did something stupid and slept with a guy (Court) she met in the bar. Not only was he horrible in bed, cocky, a predator, he was her new EMS partner. Treasure didn't date people she worked with, she couldn't stand Carter. Something happens that changes her work status. You will need to read the book to see what happens.

Treasure didn't have a mother growing up and her father died and left her his motorcycles and parts. She loved her motorcycles and didn't want to part with some of the bikes because of her father. She had a couple good friends back in Granite Lake where her father's building and parts were located. I loved her two friends who were different in their tastes, but all so good together. I was a little upset with Bodie and how he let his mother and his ex-fiancé manipulate him. I thought he should man up more and tell them where to get off. I know he was a nice guy, but sometimes he was too nice. His brothers were great and they helped each other out. There were other twists and turns going on. I did like that Bodie cared for Treasure and for the most part knew when to step back and when to push her. I loved the story and strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.

Sweet and very real

This is a sweet story about a couple of friends who take it to the next level. A steamy, earthy romance, Chasing Treasure stars paramedic Treasure and her partner Bodie. Treasure is a beautiful, down to earth woman who rides motorcycles in her private life and saved lives in her professional life. She loves to party, and she appreciates the male form in all ways. In the novella that precede this story, Treasure and Bodie have a one night stand. I’m Chasing Treasure, they begin expanding their romance and their friendship. In the meantime, Treasure experiences some hardships and is forced to address issues she’s been long avoiding. Her story - and Bodie’s - is real, heartwarming, and very sweet.

I received an advance copy in exchange for my honest review. This was fun and witty. I like Treasure, she is spunky and free. Love how she gets out of situations even though they get her into trouble. She is shy to make a commitment and as they say the chase is on. You meet a lot of characters in this book that you want to meet again. Can't wait for the next book.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and I'm voluntarily giving my honest review.
This is the first book I've read by Jody A. Kessler and I already know I want to read the first book in the Granite Lake Romance series, Unwrapping Treasure. (I'm thrilled I just found out I already own Unwrapping Treasure. Can't wait to read!)
Chasing Treasure is the second book in the series with promises of a third book. This books characters are all wonderful even the ones I hated. Great storyline! Treasure & Bodie the main two characters are great together. He's her best friend & knows her well. Well enough to know if he doesn't scare her off, they will be great together. Can't wait for book three!

Treasure is funny and smart. She finds herself in situations that no one needs to be in. Bodie use to be her EMS partner and before he left for mountain training they had a great weekend together. They have stayed in touch flitting and carrying on.

Then she meets a man at a bar and has a one night stand to find out he is horrible in bed and her new partner.

With all the twists and turns you didn’t know what to expect. I did like Brodie’s brothers stepping in at times to help out.

The characters are well developed and the plot was great. A fun read that anyone will enjoy.

Great book!! Jody really wrote these characters well. With each you are able to feel their emotions as if they're your own. HOT, STEAMY & SEXY ROMANCE! Couldn't put it down, read cover to cover in a mere few hours as was captivated from the get go. Treasure & Bodie share an amazing evening of unforgettable passion but Bodie moves on to get his Wilderness Search & Rescue Certification. Now he's back & wants to pick up where he & Treasure left off as he's not been able to get her off his mind or outta his head. Has she moved on? Can he convince her that their friendship is intact & that he wants more with her or will his family & past get in the way? MUST READ! I voluntarily read this ARC & this is my honest review

I was given this book by the author as an ARC. I voluntarily decided to leave a review. This is my honest review.
Oh gosh where do I start! I loved this book and how it was written, the storyline was brilliant and you felt part of it all the time. It was a beautiful love story full of romance you just wanted Treasure to open herself up to love rather than hide behind the wall she kept putting up with obstacles at every turn. I cried through a good few pages along the way just hoping that Brodie would find a way through to her.
It was one of the best love stories I've read in a long time with pure romance and love. I couldn't put the book down wanting to know how Treasure was doing. She had such a hard time and seemed to go from one disaster to another while all the time she was trying to hide her own feelings and convince herself she couldn't do relationships, her mum had left her dad so she must be the same!
You wanted to shake her to show her just how good she was, that she could go for it with anyone if she let herself.
She thinks Brodie will be better off with Vanessa, she's everything she isn't if only she could forget him or convince him of that!
Vanessa is always there and if not he's always talking about her, she won't be the third wheel so she gives him the space he needs.
This story was perfect and so like a real story, people say things without thinking, people put themselves down and often people don't communicate which is the main reason things get left unsaid and then blow up in your imagination.
I loved the way so much more was going on in the story apart from the love triangle or Brodie trying to get Treasure, it made it so much more and that's why it pulled me in and brought out so many emotions in me. The raw emotions of everyone and everything that happened as it would in real life, you could see it happening and wanted to stop it but couldn't.
I read this first but I've since bought the first book to see how it all started because I was so caught up in this book I need to know what happened in the beginning, I don't think it will ruin anything for me reading them in the wrong order as it's not that sort of story I don't think.
It can be read as a stand alone but if like me you're drawn in I'm sure you'll want to read the first as well. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes a great love story you won't be disappointed with this one, just make sure you've got the tissues handy when you read it and keep you day or night free because you won't want to put it down once you start reading it.

This is a drama filled story with some romance, a lot of angst and too much conversation. The storyline is interesting and the characters definitely have character. Treasure is spontaneous and adventurous, but vulnerable. Bodie is oblivious and weak. I really wasn't sure that they were ever going to get together. The brothers make the story amusing. It's a good book and I enjoyed reading it, but it was very wordy.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest opinion of it.

I loved this book as well as Bodie and Treasure. The story focuses on Treasure and her compounded issues as well as her destructive behavior. But it also shows us her soft side and how she works on changes from the upbringing and life style she was exposed to. As she learns more about her father and herself she also has her best friend Bodie who has his own stuff to work thru while trying to get closer to Treasure.

Fun, tears, friends, and family cause all kinds of ruckus for these two. The thing is to see if Treasure finds home and peace within herself soon enough. Great story and a wonderful introduction to an author I have never read. It's books like this that make me happy I try new authors I may have otherwise missed.

Such a great book!

This is such an engrossing read. It pulls you in, and there is so much happening in this book. It's a long and very satisfying read. This is the second book in the series, and I've read the first one. However, this is definitely a standalone book since everything you need to know is included in this book. (It's short, too, and worth it if you loved the scenes between Bodie and Treasure)

This book centers on Bodie and Treasure. Treasure is a commitment-phobic woman with a long history of running away from things when it gets personal, but has no problem risking her life for others. She's a real person with her own issues because of her background, but she's used to doing everything on her own. She's strong and independent, and doesn't like being taken care of. Enter Bodie. This man is as caring and sexy as they come. Both of them have their own issues to sort out, but they always come back to one another somehow. There's a great connection between them that started as friendship and has developed into much more. And when that is acted on, it is explosive and hot between them, not to be missed. It was truly enjoyable seeing those two navigate through life and find one another.

Overall, I really loved the couple and book. There is a fantastic cast of characters that I can't wait to see in another book, and the plot is solid, well-written, and really well-paced. I highly recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review. I also bought the book because I enjoyed it so much.

This was an enjoyable story. Both of the main characters had issues that overshadowed and hampered their relationship. Both carried fears from the past which affect their present situation - Treasure (phobic of committing to a relationship) and Bodie (seemingly caught up in what his family wants more than anything else plus being guilt tripped by his ex-fiancé).

Treasure is a paramedic and is very devoted to saving lives. She works hard at this job and, as we see later in the book, even risks her life to save another. She also has some trying situations of her own - repercussions from a false sexual assault charge at work, sorting through her childhood home after her father's passing and some really nasty comments made by Brodie's mother. Treasure already feels lacking compared to Bodie's ex and the comments only fuel her sense of not being a good fit for him.

Bodie, on the other hand, seems a bit wimpish. He seems to be clueless as to why Treasure is not so eager to be in a relationship with him. He worked with her for 2 years prior to them getting physically together - did he not listen to her or watch her behavior? Does he not understand her struggles? And why does he let his mother and ex-fiancé treat Treasure like she's a second class person? Even Bodie's brother points out that he's wrong to let that slide. I found his behavior to be on the immature side.

In the end, will Bodie convince Treasure that she IS the one for him? Will Treasure really commit to him instead of running? Enjoy following their journey!

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, however, this is my honest opinion.

Chasing Treasure, by Jody A. Kessler, is a Granite Lake Romance. This story was amazing to read. It was a DO NOT PUT IT DOWN and FINISH IT NOW type of story. Treasure may not be a typical name, but she's anything other than a typical woman. This story was well done, well written and inspiring start to finish. I loved the supporting characters that were tied in and they added just the right mix of something more to the story to make it well rounded! Loved it!!

An enjoyable and humorous book. Both characters were well developed and the plot moved at a decent pace. Treasure is a former bad girl gone good, who is unable to stop herself from helping those in danger. Life throws her a big run of bad luck that sends her to her home town. Brodie her former EMT partner has made a decision to change his career and move to the mountains. He knows he wants Treasure in his life romantically, yet other people keep interfering. I really liked that the conflicts didn't seem to drag on, or seem unrealistic. Overall, an great read and I look forward to reading more from this author. *I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review*

I received this digital copy of Chasing Treasure from the author (Jody A. Kessler) for an honest review. Although this book is part of a series it stood alone quite well. There's enough background information available that the reader is never wondering what happened before. The two main characters Brode and Treasure are well developed. The title Chasing Treasure is quite appropriate and has more than one meaning. The storyline is moving, exciting and has enough romance to please the reader.
