The second book in the white wolf paranormal romance series by Terry Spear, Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas, starts off with an intriguing prologue and then jumps two years. Paranormal romance writer Candice Mayfair puts up a Christmas tree every year as she lives and writes in isolation in South Dakota. Other than that, she treats it as an ordinary way. She lives this way after she was bitten by a werewolf puppy and turned into an Arctic wolf shifter with unpredictable shifting.

Private investigator Owen Nottingham is a wolf shifter hired to find Candice so she can collect an inheritance. The big problem is she must arrive in Houston, Texas in human form before the end of the month.

Candice and Owen find it easy to talk and enjoy each other’s company. She tends to think things out and feels guilty that she couldn’t go to her adoptive parents when they had health problems. She’s somewhat reserved, but friendly. He is protective, neat, and focused. I loved how the wolf pack and their friends were supportive. However, I wanted event more depth of character than I got in the story.

The story starts with a strong prologue and ends with some action, but I expected more suspense than I got. However, the world-building was good and easily transported me to the various story locations. From snowy mountains to icy lakes to beautiful mansions, I traveled along with the characters and could easily visualize each setting. The romance has a little steam, but is basically a sweet one that progresses quickly. Besides the lack of suspense, I also expected more action. However, there are two especially good action scenes (one early and one late in the book) as well as a surprise near the end of the book.

Overall, this is a sweet, paranormal Christmas romance with a little steam and a surprise or two that is easy to read and enjoyable. While it is part of a series, it works as a standalone novel.

I purchased a copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS is the first book I’ve tried by Terry Spear. When I read the blurb, it immediately caught my attention because of its cuteness. Also, I’m a real sucker for holiday reads so I was very much looking forward to trying out this author.

This book is the first installment in the White Wolf series. I believe it’s a spin off of her Heart of the Wolf series. It’s all about how an author goes camping and is bitten by a white puppy, which she later turns out to be a wolf. Suddenly, she is a wolf shifter herself and now she had a try and deal with that while still trying to making her book deadline.

The first thing I have to say about this book is the fact that everything happens too quickly. All the major setup happens within the first chapter and for me who is someone pretty new to this author and series, it felt too rushed. I honestly had no idea if shifters in this world were part of the general population or if they were kept secret still since there was no explanation. I thought that since this is the first book in a series, that would be explained clearer, but it wasn’t.

The book has an overall light tone, which I like. But it tends to kind of only touch upon things that I would consider to be important. For example, the introduction of the heroine and hero seemed very rushed. I don’t feel as if I got a chance to really grasp their character before the plot started going.

Needless to say, it’s probably best if you read the other books connected to this series because the worldbuilding isn’t explained clearly for new readers. I’m not sure that I’ll be continuing on with this series just yet. If I do, I think I would like to go back and read some of the older books first before jumping into this one. However, if you’ve followed through already, then this is a cute holiday read to get you in the mood for Christmas.

Holiday reading should be special, reflecting that magically feeling of the season. Terry Spear’s DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS does keep the “sweetness” quotient high, the “spicy” quotient, not too overpowering and is a tale of caring, need and being happy for and with those you are closest to. There are no super alpha wolves, no overly bloody battles, but there is romance as one white wolf finds his mate while on a job for his private investigating firm.

Candice’s life has changed since she was bitten by a young wolf cub. Little did she know that little cub would do more than make her all furry as PI Owen Nottingham shows up to tell Candice she may be the missing person he is searching for. Seems these two have more in common than a burning attraction and Candice will learn she is not alone in her furriness anymore, but that may not be the biggest surprise in store for the beautiful artic werewolf.

Terry Spear’s wolves are back just in time for the holiday season! A light read that holds just a sprinkling of spice, sometimes its sweetness was just a little too much and the descriptions got a bit simple and repetitive. Wonderful characters who are easy-going, accepting and almost too good to be believable as many scenes play out like a scene within a snowglobe, fluffy, pretty, but almost too “perfect.”

Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas is book two in the White Wolf series by Terry Spear. It’s part of her bigger series Heart of the Wolf.

The characters featured in Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas I remember reading about them in Legend of the White Wolf and of corse they popped up again in another installment in the series, so I have some familiarity with them.

This novel was on ok read. It didn’t wow me or pull me into it. Everything was simple and happens very quickly. The major setup happens in the fist chapter, making it feel rushed. The tone of the book is light. Only touching upon things that should be have more importance. For example; the introduction to our heroine and hero, is rushed. We don’t get much depth for the characters. Which made me not fall for them or be invested in them. They where just their.

The romance between Candice and Owen has just a little spice and sweetness. The sweetness was just a little too sweet and so the descriptions got to be a bit repetitive and straightforward.

As for the world building. I’ve always had trouble understanding it. Reading in order would be best, but even then I’m still confused. At the start of the series the world doesn’t know about shifters. They also live very very long lives, but then things kinda change on how long they live. But, they are still in hiding from humans. I have always felt like the author wasn’t sure on what direction she wanted to go. Things kinda change suddenly on the life span for the shifters and we still don’t know why this is.

After reading Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas I’m kinda questioning what I saw in Ms. Spear’s wolf series. From what I remember in the earlier books they use to have more depth to the characters and more action, suspense, a dilemma they had to over come, a bad person after them, or some kind of mystery to solve, so that things actually felt like something was going on, but now it feels blasé. From now on if I do pick up Ms. Spear’s I’ll be grabbing the books from my library instead of purchasing. This series and author have lost their appeal to me and I know longer have a big interest in the writing.

Loved these wolves! The beautiful Minnesota setting is captured perfectly. Owen and his friends are a peaceful wolf pack who only want to live their lives hidden among humans. I think Candice is just right for Owen, and the developing romance fits with the story line. The secondary characters are great, and I can't wait for the other bachelor wolves to get their book, especially David. Appearances from other shifters will have fans rejoicing and anxiously awaiting future books.

I am so very ready for Fall and the cooler weather to get here but what I’m not ready for is the Holidays. This makes things hard for me since they are coming up quick. I’ve had Dreaming of A White Wolf Christmas in my TBR pile for quite awhile, but it’s hard to read a Holiday book when it’s pushing triple digits outside. Still, with it’s publishing date approaching I drug my inner Christmas elf out of hibernation and started reading.

I shouldn’t have worried so since it really didn’t have a Holiday feel to it for almost the entire first half of the book. Even after that, the Holidays were more like a subtle backdrop instead of an in your face Holiday extravaganza which I greatly appreciated.

Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas has an interesting take on shifters. In fact, in this world, turned wolves don’t have control of their shifts for years after being bitten and what a pain in the rear end that was. As interesting as some aspects of this world were, I struggled with the book itself. It felt very simplistic and one-dimensional at its core. Many important aspects were skipped over and there was more telling than showing which drove me bonkers.

At the beginning of the book, Candice was accidentally bitten by a werewolf wolf puppy while on a camping trip with friends. The story then immediately fast forwards a couple of years and we are told in the most unemotional, basic way about her isolation since the bite, her troubles with controlling the shifts, and that she was disowned by her family. To say I felt cheated of some prime character development time is an understatement.

Owen is a turned wolf and a member of the wolf pack that the cub belongs to. By sheer coincidence (which caused lots of eye rolling on my part), he is hired to find Candace so she can collect on an inheritance. I liked Owen well enough but, again, there just wasn’t a lot of substance there.

There was loads of potential in Dreaming of A White Wolf and it had some interesting parts, but Instead of the well fleshed out story I expected, for me, it fell into the just okay category.

'Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas' by Terry Spear is Book 23 in the "Heart of the Wolf" Series. This is the story of Candice Mayfair and Owen Nottingham. I have been jumping in and out of this series but feel this is easily a standalone book.
Candice is a Romance Writer who focused on that but when a werewolf puppy accidentally bites her she is turned into a Arctic wolf shifter. Which has turned her life upside down with the emotions she going through along with the shifting. Owen has a mission to get Candice to join his wolf pack and to take him as a mate.
Since this story was created around Christmas it has allot of Christmas type story line but also is just a sweet easy read.
Loved it!

I have no idea what got into me, but I saw this at my library and was like, "What? Arctic wolf shifters? Private investigators? Absurd situations? I'm intrigued."

Yeah, I don't know what I was expecting, but it was something better than this. Sorry. It seemed promising at first and the writing seemed okay, buuuuut, after a while it was clear the author really, really isn't that great, and the story was...boring.

I mean, give me shit, but the sex scenes are pretty much the hinge of romance and the sex scenes in here were ALL the same. Every single one. Where's the spice? The experimentation? They're both wolves for fuck's sake. Get weird with it.

But alas.

She also has a SEAL wolf series, where, yep, Navy SEALS are legit werewolves and I was sort of interested, but damn the writing kills it!

Also, yes I read this in two days because that's how simple the prose was.

Good lord, this was just horrid. I don't understand it either. Terry Spear is well known. Lots of people enjoy her books. Hell, this series is 30 books long. Obviously, someone somewhere enjoys this sort of thing. But I was bored to tears.

The dialogue is stiff. The writing is dry as dust. It's SO tell heavy and everything is repeated, as characters do things and then tell people about doing things, or tell people they're going to do something and then do it, or think about doing something and then do it, etc. The love is instant and the romance is non-existent and basically comes down to her being the only available arctic wolf. Random things happen randomly. There are a ton of characters who pop up and then disappear just as suddenly. I assume they are only mentioned because they're cameos from other books (but they just felt disruptive here). And the book just went on and on and on.

Honestly, I would have DNFed this, for sure, had I not been reading it for a challenge and wanted to be able to count it. I think I need not ever read another Spear book.

Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas by Terry Spear
Heart of the Wolf #23

Simple story of two recently turned white Arctic Wolves seeing one another the night the female is turned but not meeting again for two years. Set at Christmas there are cookies, egg nog, holiday decorations and presents but underlying the story and romance is the loss of parents, an inheritance, a wannabe inheritor and dealing with the shift between human and lupus garou that occurs without warning. There is the welcoming into a pack that Cara eventually embraces, finding an inheritance along with an uncle who is more than she thought he might be and a future to look forward to as the series progresses and more single men find mates.

There was nothing really new in this paranormal shifter book and though quite far along in the series this is a standalone book.

Thank you to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for the ARC – this is my honest review.

A fun little story perfect for the Christmas season. Candice was realistic in how she coped with her new reality, and Owen was eager to help. It included shifters we’ve met in past stories and tied it all together with ease. It seemed a little forced and didn’t flow as easy as some of her past books, but I enjoyed it.

Candice and Owen are both newly turned arctic wolves. Owen is sent to find her under his PI business but he was already looking for her after seeing her the night she was turned.

The story is fine. The writing is a bit off to me but it is still a fine book. I never connected to the characters and the story didn’t have anything much that hasn’t been done before.

OK read if in the mood.

f you read last year’s holiday story A Very Jaguar Christmas with Demetria and Everett’s adventure with a white wolf pup, a shifter species that none of the jaguars knew even existed – well, then you’ve met Corey, and know the mischief he can get up to.

A few years ago, Clara was with a small group of friends, camping in the forest. Unable to sleep she went outside of her tent to watch the stars. She caught sight of a white puppy and thinking the pup was lost she’d held out a bit of beef jerky to tempt the puppy closer – unfortunately instead of being able to grab the pup she ended up lightly bitten as he snatched the jerky out of her hand and ran. It hurt, and she felt a bit odd. Returning to her tent she discovered at some point during the night she’d suddenly grown paws… white furry paws. Believing it to be a hallucination from the dog bite she shrugged it off… until it happened again. Yeah, that was no lost puppy but a small white wolf shifter named Corey… in trouble once again since it’s now come to light that he’d accidentally turned a human.

These days Clara, who has officially changed her name to her professional pen name of Candice Mayfair lives a very solitary life in a small town near mountains and forests where she can run in her wolf form. She has no control over her shifts and has left friends, family and career far behind. Only visiting when the moon phases allow, which has created conflict, disappointment and her adoptive parents basically disowning her. She lives alone, writes her hugely popular paranormal romance and survives. Alone until one special man searches her out… one man she never imagined would have such an impact on her life. Her mate.

Owen, along with his friends and pack mates have opened up the physical office for their private investigator business. And the very first call is an interesting missing person case. A young woman disowned by her parents has fallen off the planet it seems. She’s come into quite an inheritance from her parents and she has one month to claim it or it goes to her uncle. Yep. Candice. Owen sets out to find the elusive Clara and discovers far more than he thought possible. Now he has to convince her that claiming her inheritance and going to meet with his pack are really good ideas… perhaps proven when they are followed by a stranger tracking wolf prints that lead right to her door. Owen’s attraction is strong, he believes he’s found his mate but he won’t push her. Yet he hopes that showing her the safety and community of pack life and helping her with her inheritance claim will show her just how right they are together.

Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas is a fun, sexy, emotional story with touches of intrigue and danger. It’s stated as the first book in the White Wolf sub-series, a part of the Heart of the Wolf series… yet if we’re talking about the white arctic wolves then Legend of the White Wolf would be the first time we met any of Owen’s pack mates, in particular Cameron and Faith. Just a side bit of information there.

I enjoyed Candice and Owen’s romance very much. They are a believable and likable couple who fit together so well. It was fun to run into other characters from the overall series and the jaguars series once again. I happen to love when those light crossovers happen in Terry Spear’s stories. I believe any Shifter Romance or Paranormal Romance reader would enjoy this one. Do you “have” to have read the entire sets of series? That’s a hard question. On the surface… no, you can enjoy Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas as the start of a new series. There isn’t the world building of the original series, yet there is enough background information added in that I don’t believe you’d be lost. It might even encourage you to go back and read the earlier books. In my opinion.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Owen was an Arctic wolf and a Private Investigator/ P I. Hed knew that the white wolf he had seen across the river wasn’t one of the Arctic wolves which had changed him and his friends. Five years ago Owen and his P I partner david was out hunting for bear. David had a heart attack neither Owen nor the guide they had hired could help david way out in the woods. The wolves wouldn’t have bitten David if owen hadn’t asked for the guides help. They had bit David to give him their enhances powers to repair his heart or David would have died. Owen was bitten because of what he had seen without paying the consequences- become one of them or die. After that the pack took them in , they had to because Owen and David had no control over shifting Owen wanted to find the other arctic wolf it could mean he or one of his bachelor male buddies could have a mate. But he couldn’t find her as she was with friends and he didn’t know which female was the actual werewolf. Then her and her friends took a canoe trip after a couple of days and Owen never knew what became of her. Owen finally opened a new P I shop in White River Falls. Minn. He was eager to make a go of it. Business again after seven years of working online. Every since that day in the woods Clara had been a whole different person with her world turned upside down. Her friends were no longer her friends, and her adoptive parents had disowned her. She had changed her name to her pseudonym that she wrote her books under- candace Mayfair. Candace moved from Houston to the wilderness in South dakota. After two years Candace came to grips with what she now was. Candace had realized she had to isolate herself from everyone she had known in the past and did it. She settled into her new life and wrote about the subject she now knew best - werewolves. Using her former talent in writing suspense romances she wrote Arctic wolf romances. Owen got a call first thing when he was the only one in the office to find Clara/Candace as she has a month to claim her inheritance her parents had left her who had been rich or her uncle would get it. Through an old co-worker Owen found out Clara and Candace were one and the same person. Owen shows up at Candace’s house and finds out one of the pups of his small pack had bitten and turned Candace. Candace had been dealing with this all by herself for two years. Owen offers to run as a wolf with Candace and she agrees. She actually really likes having another wolf to run with, Owen wants her to come meet his small pack - there were three single males and a coupple with their kids/ pups that were triplets one being the one who had bitten Candace by accident. While on their run they end up rescuing two snowmobilers and the third man had filmed them by the request one of the men they had rescued. That night someone had been snooping around Candace’s house and that had never happened before the rescue. Candace decides to pack up for a little while and go meet owen;s pack until the rescue had all blown over. Candace would stay in owen’s cabin with him since she had already met him. They packed some essentials for Candace and left the next morning for Minn.
I loved this book, it was a good, easy fun read, I loved the plot and pace. Also a little different spin on werewolves. I loved how candace didn’t have to be alone anymore unless she chose to. But even then she could always call Owen or the other members of his pack. I couldn’t find anything I didn’t like about this book. I loved how Owen took care of candace anyway that he could. I also loved owen and candace’s relationship grew over time. I loved the characters and the ins and outs and I highly recommend this book

3.5 stars----DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS is the first installment in Terry Spear’s spin off, contemporary, adult WHITE WOLF paranormal, romance series and the twenty third installment in the continuing HEART OF THE WOLF series. This is Arctic white wolf shifter PI Owen Nottingham, and paranormal author/white wolf Candice (aka Clara Hart) Mayfair’s story line. DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines and series is revealed where necessary. As well, some of the characters and couples cross over from the author’s HEART OF THE JAGUAR series including Arctic wolf shifters Cameron and Faith MacPherson, and their wolf pup Corey whom we met in A VERY JAGUAR CHRISTMAS (October 2016).

Told from dual third person perspectives (Owen and Candice) DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS follows the search for reluctant heiress Clara Hart. Two years earlier, while camping with some friends, Clara’s life changed the night she attempted to feed a hungry looking white wolf cub- a werewolf Arctic shifter-who accidently bit and transformed our story line heroine. Fast forward to present day and our heroine, who now goes by her professional name author Candice Mayfair, finds herself a lone wolf in a world she brings to life in her popular romance novels. Enter private investigator and Arctic wolf shifter Owen Nottingham, and the man with whom Candice will fall in love. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Candice and Owen, and the potential fall out as Candice and Owen battle the clock, and their shifts, as the deadline to claim Clara’s inheritance is fast approaching.

DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS is a sweet story of family and friendship; of one man who discovers his other half; and one woman who finally finds a place where she belongs. There is no conflict between our leading couple; their attraction to one another is immediate and intense; Owen knows he has found the mate that calls to his heart. The $ex scenes are passionate; Clara/Candice’s questions about life as a wolf are entertaining and educational.

We are introduced to Owen’s business partners, friends and fellow Arctic wolf shifters David Davis, and Gavin Summerfield, as well as the familiarity of Cameron and Faith MacPherson, and their triplet wolf pups; Candice /Clara’s uncle Strom Hart, and Montana homicide detective Rowdy Sanderson who is aware of the supernatural world of shifters.

DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS is a predictable but cute story line; an easy read. The author’s writing style is almost too simple for an adult novel. I don’t know when or where the change in style began but there is something different in the water-downed presentation within the last few tales of Terry’s paranormal shifters. The conflict is limited; everyone gets along; there is no competition for the few female shifters that are potential mates to the numerous single males. I am looking forward to Gavin and David’s storyline, as well as the possibility that Clara’s Uncle Strom will find someone to love.

ARC REVIEW

I'm dreaming of a white wolf Christmas
Just like the one Terry Spear wrote
Where the werewolves glisten and children howlin'
To see the full moon in the snow.
I'm dreaming of a white wolf Christmas
With every word that she writes
May your nights be steamy and hot
And may all your Werewolves be white.

Okay enough of me butchering Irving Berlin's masterpiece. Terry Spear's newest Heart of the Wolf novel is the start to a new spinoff. It is also a good starting point for some, while there is a little bit of backstory it's only there so you get to know the characters, this book can be read as a standalone. For those new to Terry Spears this is a great book and a wonderful series. All the guys are strong loyal and devoted. The women are smart and strong, everybody has a bit of baggage they work to deal with and one of my favorite things they don't have sex until they are sure they want each other as mates, they can do other things so there is lots of fun sexual chemistry and tension going on before they make that choice.

Candice Mayfair use to go by a different name until one camping trip and a little nip on the finger by a werewolf pup turned her life upside down. Now Candice is a full time romance writer, writing about shifters. Owen Nottingham and his partners are private investigators who have all been bitten. They uprooted their lives and moved to a place where seeing an arctic wolf wouldn't be conspicuous and became a pack. Ever since moving out of Seattle the business has been internet based until now they finally have an office again and their first big gig is to track down an heiress. Owen tracks her down via an ex-coworker who told him she changed her name to her pen name and moved away.

It's been two years since she first shifted, that first night she thought she dreamed seeing another white wolf. But when the P.I. looking for her shows up at her door she realizes that wolf wasn't a dream he's standing right in front of her. The pup that bit her is part of his pack and he wants her to join the pack and hopefully mate with him, he has been dreaming about her since that night they saw each other. Owen also wants to help her get her inheritance, she didn't even realize her parents left her anything considering she thought they disowned her. But when another P.I. claims he found the real Clara Hart and Owen and Candice need to rush down to Texas to prove otherwise despite the full moon and Candice isn't in full control over her shift yet. With a call to Dallas they get help from the panther shifter friends there. Once there Candice gets a big surprise about her uncle.

Overall, this was another great shifter romance from Terry Spear.

Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas is the first book in the exciting new White Wolf series by bestselling author Terry Spear. A highly entertaining, shifter romance that steal your heart! With an interesting storyline, complex characters you can't help but love, secrets, mystery, intense situations, and intriguing twists, you'll be hooked from beginning to end. This was a fantastic story, and a great start to this new series.

Clara Hart is a romance author who goes by the pen name Candice Mayfair. While camping with her friends, she's bitten by what she thought was a puppy, but it turned out to be an artic wolf pup. Alone, scared, and not able to control her shifting, she knows that she'll have to leave everything and everyone behind, and make a new life for herself. She quits her day job, buys some property, changes her name to her pen name, devotes all of her time to writing, and expects to be alone since she doesn't know any other shifters, until he shows up.

Owen Nottingham is a private investigator with his best friends and pack mates. They've just re-opened their business after several years of doing only online work due to the shifting issues that they all went through after being newly turned. Their first call is about locating a missing woman that has an inheritance left to her, but she has to claim it within 30 days or it goes to her uncle. Owen lucks out and is able to get information about her quickly, but his attempts to contact her have went unanswered. He decides to locate her in person since the time line is short, but the last thing he expects is to come face to face with the beautiful artic wolf he saw before, the one he's been dreaming about since.

When they get word that another investigator has found the real Clara Hart, they are determined to do whatever they can to prevent the impostors from collecting the inheritance, but she's still having trouble with shifting, which could cause problems for both of them. With many twists and turns, and unexpected help from strangers, as well as friends, will they be able to get there in time? Will Owen be able to convince Candice that they belong together, and that she's a part of the pack? Will Candice learn to trust Owen, the rest of the pack, and the happiness that they're offering her? Will they get their HEA, and have another reason to celebrate Christmas? You'll have to read it to find out, but you won't be disappointed!

I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

"Dreaming of a White Wolf" is the first White Wolf book which is a sub-series within the Heart of the Wolf series. Terry keeps the series fresh and it's awesome reading about the different kinds of wolves. Clara Hart is camping with friends when she encounters a fluffy white puppy in the woods and gives him some beef jerky. He accidentally bites her hand after which she turns into an Arctic wolf. She goes into the woods after the puppy and encounters another Arctic wolf across the river.

Due the issues of being a new shapeshifter with uncontrollable shifting Clara must give up her life so she adopts the name Candice Mayfair which she uses to write romance novels and moves from Houston to the wilds of South Dakota. Two years later Candice's uncle, Strom Hart, hires Private Investigator Owen Nottingham to locate Clara so she can receive a large inheritance from her parents. However, there's a problem. Candice must wait until the new moon to go because that's the one time of the month when she doesn't have to worry about shifting. So she, Owen, and his business partners set up a fake book tour as a reason why she couldn't come right away. At first Strom is agreeable to that but he soon calls Owen and tells him that the "real" Clara has been found and is coming right away. Now Candice must prove that she's really Clara. Candice and Owen start driving to Houston but soon realize that they need some assistance as they both have trouble shifting so Owen calls some jaguar shifters who live in Dallas for help.

Getting the paperwork signed for her inheritance becomes quite the ordeal as the fake Clara causes some problems and Strom "requests" Candice's presence at his house much earlier than she and Owen had planned meaning they could have shifting issues. However, they have a big surprise when they do get to Strom's house.

In addition to the business of getting her inheritance, Candice meets Owen's pack to decide whether or not she wants to join them and a relationship forms between the two of them so they must decide if they want to mate. There are a lot of twists and turns in this story with surprises turning up as you read. I loved this book and highly recommend it.

This is book #23 in the Heart of the Wolf series by Terry Spear and although I have read some of the previous books I don't think it is necessary to have any knowledge of Ms Spears paranormal world since she very adequetly introduces us to her world.

We first meet the h (Clara Heart) while she is camping with friends in the wilds of Minnesota and while feeding a stray puppy some jerky she is inadvertently bitten resulting in her transforming to an Alpine white wolf. She manages to keep this hidden from her friends but during the night, while she was shifted she sees a beautiful white wolf on the other side of a stream.

Clara deals with her change in circumstance by cutting herself off from all her friends and family and moving herself to a remote (but very beautiful) location. She changes her name to that of the pen name (Candice Mayfair) and lives a solitary existance believing that her adopted parents have disowned her.

Owen Nottingham is the H of this book, he too is a turned Alpine white wolf and incidentally is the same one that Clara saw when she was first turned. In fact it was a puppy from his pack who had done the deed. Owen and his friends/ co pack members work as PIs and he is employed to track down Clara/Candice on behalf of her uncle who wishes to pass on her inheritance from her deceased adapted parents. As soon as he meets her, Owen realises that Clara/Candice is the white wolf that he had seen and been attracted to all those years ago.

This story is not fast paced really and it did take me a little time to get into the cadence of the story. Clara/Candice has to come to understand her new way of life i.e. the existence of paranormals and the surprise that is her uncle. Although there is instant attraction this is not a 'your are my mate' kind of book but more of a slower progression. The story is well written but I must admit that it was not my favourite of this series.

This book was provided to me by the publishers via NetGalley. Many thanks for the opportunity.

This was my fourth Heart of the Wolf story from Terry Spear. While I was lounging on the beach during my vacation I read this delightful Christmas story. Speaking of contrasts, this story was definitely a lot different than SEAL Wolf Undercover. It more had the feel of A Very Jaguar Christmas. And even Demetria and Everett are starring in this story, so it is nice to meet them again. The story is not about them though. But it is about the wolf cub they had found. This cub, Cody, has grown since then, but he is still a bit of a drifter. And now he was wandering through a campside where Candice Mayfair is camping with some friends.
After feeding the cute little puppy, she accidently gets bitten by him. And then suddenly she finds herself shedding fur and changing in and out of a wolf. Scared out of her mind, she quits her job and starts to live as a recluse in the woods. Fortunately she can earn her living with the romance books she was already writing. And what way to better tell stories, then to use your own experiences? So Candice starts to write about Artic White Wolf Shifters...
When her parents leave her a large amount of money in their testament, Candice's uncle hires private investigator Owen Nottingham to track down his niece. Little did he know that Owen is a Artic White Wolf himself.
So you can image the shock when Owen appears on Candice's doorstep and they 'smell' each other.
Candice is shocked to discover she is not the only one and Owen is delighted to find a female shifter. The only other female shifter in his pack is already happily married, so he had no reason to believe he would ever find a mate. However, there are more males in his pack and so he has to convince Candice to come and live with them. And, preferably with him.

As usual, Terry's books are warm and cosy. Even sitting on the beach, I felt the longing for the hot cocoa and the christmas tree. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas is book twenty-three in the Heart of the Wolf series by Terry Spear.  Not having read all the books in the series, I didn't know if I would be ok reading this one or not. Have no fear! This can be read as a standalone as Terry gives us all the background we need to dive into this book.

Candice was accidentally turned while camping with friends.  She fed a cute little puppy who bit her as puppies do! Soon after, she freaks when she starts to sprout fur and literally shift into a wolf-a very beautiful white wolf at that! Totally at a loss and knowing she can't be seen like this, she quits her job and moves to a remote cabin in the woods. Being a romance writer, she can write from anywhere. So living as a recluse is not hard. Looking for new material to write in her books, she starts writing from her heart about Artic Wolf shifters.

When her estranged parents leave her an inheritance, Candice's uncle hires a PI, Owen, to find his niece. That uncle had no clue that Owen is an Artic Wolf shifter as well. When Owen tracks her to the cabin and Candice opens the door. She's in for a shock! Owen is also a shifter! And he is excited to find a female Artic Wolf shifter as well! He never thought he ever had a chance at a mate since there were no available females in his pack.  Knowing he wants her to be with him, he needs to convince her to join his pack and to stay with him.  There surely are more males in his pack that would love a chance to get to her too!

This was a nice romance to dig into!  Not overly flowery, overly sexy, or overly "you are my mate" type books.  It seemed to have just the right mix. It did take me a bit initially to get into the story, and it did seem to slow at times, but the story was well written and I liked reading it!

4 Stars/3.5 Flames

This book was gifted to me by the Jeep Diva for a voluntary review.  The review and ratings are solely my opinions.

After having reread "A Very Jaguar Christmas" this Christmas, I just had to read another one (or two) of Terry Spear's books and it had to be something Christmassy as well, of course. So I found "A Highland Wolf Christmas" and "Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas" and started to read - and didn't put my reader down till I had read them both.

Okay, so they are not very classical Christmas stories but I really loved the story about Candice and Owen and all their furry friends and, well, if you get to celebrate Christmas with those you care for and who care for you, well, I think that is one of the best things that you can wish for for Christmas. But....let's get back to Candice feeding a stray pup and ending up, okay, not as a pup but with fur herself. Those of you who have read "A Very Jaguar Christmas" might even recognize the little culprit whose greediness will change Candice's life. But some changes may even turn out to be one of the best things that could have happened to you no matter how bad they look at the beginning!

Oh, and let's face it - it's never easy to be a newly turned werewolf who can't control the shifting especially if you still live among mere humans and have to earn your living. That's why we (and Owen) find Candice in the wilderness when he comes looking for her because there is an inheritance to claim and with the full moon around the corner that makes their shifting unpredictable (putting it mildly) they have not much time left. And of course, there's also Christmas to consider and, well, with Owen being a bachelor and Candice being a very pretty she-wolf....yup, a lot of things to do, right?

I loved Candice and Owen and their chemistry and it was also fun to meet all those other shifters again and find out what's been going on in their lives. The book was once again well written, captivating and funny. I really loved reading it!

This is the second book in this series. I haven’t read the first one but didn’t feel confused at all. This is the first book I have read by Terry. This book was interesting. Owen is a PI and an artic wolf. He has gotten a case to find a girl so she can claim her inheritance. Candice Mayfield is a writer and also an artic wolf. She was turned a few years ago while on a camping trip with friends. He life dramatically changed after that. When Owen tracks down Candice her life is going to change again. Of course, she knew there are others like her after all one of them changed her but she has never spent any time with them. As soon as Owen meet Candice he knows she is that wolf he saw across the river. He wants to get to know her to get her to come meet the rest of his pack. Can Owen help her claim her inheritance and convince her that he is the only wolf for her? This book was a great read. I loved the characters and have added the first book and third books to my TBR list already. Candice hasn’t had it very easy since she was changed. Things may get easier for her if she meets the rest of Owen’s pack or even joins it. She has so many questions. She still has a fair bit of trouble controlling her shifts. Owen wants to do anything he can for Candice. He worries about being to pushy with how he feels but he also doesn’t want the other single males in the pack to get a chance with her. I look forward to reading more books in this series as well as more by Terry. She writes a large number of wolf shifter books. Shifters are one of my favorite genres.

What a wonderful little Christmas story! While I’m not really up to date on all the wonderfully intersecting stories of this author, I found it incredibly easy to dive in here and enjoy this relatively standalone tale.

Candice was an average woman, writing in her free time until she goes on the camping trip that changes her life. A small bite from what she assumed was a lost puppy ends up transforming her into a werewolf. Being forced to essentially push everyone away has left her alone but eagerly throwing herself into her writing career. Writing about werewolves is suddenly even more relevant.

While Candice was out on her inaugural shift/run, she happened to see another arctic wolf. Said wolf, Owen, has become convinced that this mystery wolf will be his mate and is even more dumbstruck when his most recent case takes him right to her door. The two of them might have a confusing history, but their future is definitely looking good. As long as she can accept the instant introduction of a pack, some estranged family, some conniving con-men/women, and more shifters than she can shake a stick at, they should be fine! As a nice introduction to the world, this book was more than I expected. We meet so many interesting characters that I’m eager to dive right back in.

I've read one book in the shifter world Spears created--I think it was the first and was about jaguar shifters. This book is more sweet and calm with little in the way of action. When a young woman is bitten by a wolf cub while camping, she finds herself turned into a werewolf. This book is clearly connected to earlier books about Arctic wolf shifters and mentions a lot of back story from those books. It also connects to jaguar shifters.

This book is more internal, and about two people getting to know each other and a woman coming to terms with her circumstances. There is a threat, more than one, but nothing particularly scary. People looking for kick-butt heroines or alpha heroes will be disappointed. This is about a young woman who is pretty quiet and becomes isolated after her life changes. She isn't particularly aggressive and the romantic lead is not pushy either.

The reason I gave the book three stars was that I felt the leads took chances that were well-meaning but poorly considered. Also, they were terrible at lying and could have come up with stories that were easier to support and less likely to fail. I liked them, but wasn't drawn in, perhaps because their story lacked much tension. At the same time, I found the book comforting as it avoided false romantic angst.

The copy I read was provided pre-publication.

This was one that I really enjoyed. I love shifter romances in general but I had already read a bit about some of these wolves so it was neat meeting up with them again. Owen's firm is hired to search for a missing niece. Candice is the niece but because of an encounter with a nippy shifter wolf cub, she left her life behind and moved to seclusion. Their meeting and then her meeting of the pack was good. I really like those little pups the artic wolves have. Too cute.
I hated that Candice had to miss so much of what had been her life. It was so sad that because of what happened she missed when her parents needed her. I wasn't sure I was going to like her uncle and then that whole thing just cracked me up! The author did a great job of adding characters you meet in her previous books and then just the situations the characters are put in. So great! I hope to read more about Owen's packmates in the near future cause I want some happily ever afters for them.
It was a 4/5 for me. I do so enjoy these books!

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas
.
Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas is, depending on where you look, 1 or 2nd in the White Wolf Series. In any case, while you can totally read it as a stand-alone book your enjoyment and understanding will be increased if you at least read the 4th book in the Heart of the Wolf series, or (again) depending where you look the first of the White Wolf series, Legend of the White Wolf. Also FYI the secondary character from SEAL Wolf In Too Deep is also prominently featured in this book. I suspect one of the Jaguar books also would have given me some more of one of the characters back story but I haven’t read any yet. I have been going through most (but not all) of the various series here and noticed that they started out with a storyline being featured and the characters were built around the story. As the books have progressed this has changed and the books all seem to be more character driven with a little story around the various people being featured. Not sure if I said that exactly right but if you read the series, especially the Heart of the Wolf series, you will understand what I am trying to say I believe.

While on a camping vacationing with friends, romantic suspense writer Candice Mayfair is bitten by an arctic wolf pup and finds her life has veered into the unpredictably strange. Cutting ties with her friends, family and life Candice moves and starts a new solitary life.

Enter arctic wolf PI, Owen Nottingham, who gets a call to find the missing author since her parents have passed away leaving a substantial inheritance if she can prove her identity Luckily Owen finds Candice quickly and is able to show her their commonality, share an adventure and fan the romantic spark between them but someone else has their sights set on the money.

Unfortunately for this series fan the outing (the second in the White Wolf subseries and twenty-four in the series) didn't read to my expectations. The characters and story were fine though a bit light and the pacing was a bit fast for the events giving the read a stretched novella feel that would work fine as a beach or rainy day read.
