USA Today Bestselling author, Lynne Marshall, used to worry she had a serious problem with daydreaming until she realized she was supposed to write those stories. A late bloomer, Lynne came to fiction writing after her children were nearly grown. Now she battles the empty nest by writing books which always include a love story and often medicine. She is a Southern California native, married to a New Englander for a long, long time. She is an adoring mother and grandmother, a dog lover, and an optimistic participant on this wild journey called life!
While all the stories Lynne Marshall writes that contain some medical references have been positive plus convincing, MIRACLE FOR THE NEUROSURGEON is her most heartwarming yet. So many factors dealing with having a spinal cord injury are explored, from physical complications to emotional issues, and each matter not only made the two main characters come across as realistic but also very likable. When I start a book by Lynne Marshall, I know the main couple will be facing several difficulties, but most of the time there are not so many added dilemmas for them to triumph over. I was totally drawn into MIRACLE FOR THE NEUROSURGEON from the first chapter, and my interest never waned until I had devoured every compelling word.
When Mary Harris unexpectedly showed up at the home of Wesley Van Allen, she intended to make him realize that he could use her help. A waterskiing mishap had severely damaged his spinal cord, and now the successful neurosurgeon will never walk again. Since Mary is a physical therapist, she has come to offer her useful knowledge in the hope it will make his days better. But Wes is a proud man and is not at all receptive to letting someone see him as weak, and he quickly refuses her proposal.
However, Mary is not about to give up, as she comprehends the man whom she has known for years needs her assistance regardless of what he says. When Wes finally relents, she is overjoyed and looks forward to making him healthier and productive. She has always respected him as a person, and even secretly likes her best friend’s brother more than either of them knows. His days actually become enjoyable having Mary work with him, and Wes cannot keep from dreaming of things that he thinks will never happen because of how his whole life has now changed.
There were numerous times when I cheered on Wes as he tried to accomplish a deed that was once easy but not anymore. The sudden loss of mobility would certainly be devastating for me, and adjusting would be hard. Ms. Marshall’s knowledge as a nurse plus her thorough research let me see what a person would have to do after such a terrible accident, and whether there are any workable solutions which would make it possible to resume various activities. Wes knows his world will never be the same, and he thinks his wishes for more normalcy will never be achieved. But when the optimistic Mary comes into his life, a spark of hope tries to flare up. MIRACLE FOR THE NEUROSURGEON is truly stirring because of inspiring moments.
Wes and Mary are one of my all-time favorite couples. They are both extremely genuine, and this made them all the more appealing. What each of them feels is very conceivable, especially when past sentiments affect the present, leaving them often mystified as to how they should react to one another. As desire builds between them, so does the determination to do their best for the other. I never felt like these two were not responding in a true-to-life manner, and this had me believing each scene as depicted. Their love story is really romantic at times, and I felt their joy at being so happy. I also could tell when they were experiencing distress, as the author’s writing gave me insight into their every thought.
I voluntarily reviewed the book and all comments are my honest opinion
Lynne Marshall’s unique voice as a storyteller is in full force with “Miracle for the Neurosurgeon”, a captivating contemporary romance that will surprise and satisfy the romance lover’s imagination. The character in the title, Wes Van Allen, is stubborn, somewhat superior, and very sexy—a man used to having his own way. An accident which leaves him a wheelchair-bound paraplegic changes his life forever and forces him to adapt to a whole new lifestyle, and it challenges him to overcome and excel beyond those boundaries. He needs help, however, and it comes in the form of a sweet memory from his past. Mary Harris, a longtime close friend of Wes’s sister, Alexandra. Mary is an expert in physical therapy, and when Alexandra asks for her help with Wes, who has already fired several therapists, Mary comes to their aid. At first reluctant to work with Mary, Wes gives her a trial period which proves to be more than either of them ever expected. Old feelings from a young attraction become an irresistible desire that is touched with something more—a hope of a chance for both of their dreams to come true. There is much to overcome, and as opportunity knocks for each of them, can they find a way to have it all? I am even more of a Lynne Marshall fan after having read “Miracle for the Neurosurgeon”. In her own special way, she takes an extremely difficult situation and turns it into an uplifting, reaffirming, and smokin’ hot romance. Oh, my—the passionate possibilities!
Wes Van Allen was a brilliant neurosurgeon until an accident put him out of commission and landed him in a wheelchair. Determined not to let him isolate himself from those that love him, his sister calls for reinforcements to get him out of his funk. Luckily, physical therapist Mary Harris, his sister’s best friend, has what it takes to get him back to fighting form and doing most of the things he loved doing before he got injured. Read More
I really enjoyed this story. It kind of reminded me of stories by my all time favorite author Betty Neels. Just a great feel good story. I also feel I learned from this story as it was about a topic new to me.
I definitely recommend this as a good happily ever after book!
In a world where money is no issue .... that was one of my thoughts
In any way the story felt superficial at best. There was no real depth to the characters. I am truely sorry that I could not feel any chemistry so therefore this is a OK read at best ...
Miracle for the Neurosurgeon by Lynne Marshall is a deep, emotional story that tugged at my heartstrings! The clarity with which Ms. Marshall writes instantly garnered my attention. I found her latest medical romance to be nothing short of heart-wrenching. The plot is unique and the main characters are not your typical leads. Mary Harris is a breath of fresh air and Wes Van Allen is a man who is tough as much as he is handsome. The journey towards the HEA hasn’t been a smooth ride, however, every emotion and detail - whether scenic, medical or romantic - is skillfully portrayed and compelling. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend to fellow romance fans!
Loved Wes and Mary's story! So much heart and emotion in this book. I thought their evolution from family friends to more was spot on. Highly recommend it!
When you have been recognized as the " best in your field" for a job that you love, your future seems secure and your life is good. Until...an accident while skiing leaves you a paraplegic and suddenly, you cannot perform the skills needed to remain "the best in your field". Suddenly, his profession as a neurosurgeon seems hopeless and Wesley Van Allen seems destined to be confined to a wheelchair. And then....a physical therapist by the name of Mary Harris enters his life, and recognizing his desire to recover, she becomes determined to help him reclaim the life that he once enjoyed. Mary isn't just determined; she is also smitten and she has a hidden agenda in her plan to help Wesley. The two of them once shared a few moments in their high school days that left her with a mad crush and now, she wants him to father her baby!
The premise of "Miracle for the Neurosurgeon" could be sad and depressing but author Lynne Marshall has given readers a reason to cheer and to rejoice. She is a nurse by profession and it is obvious that she devoted much research to learn about the advances that have been made to help those who suffer from spinal cord injuries. She has been able to show Wesley's despair and determination and in Mary she displays the abilities of a good therapist who is also driven by love. The fact that the two share an incredible chemistry doesn't hurt the storyline either!
You certainly won't be disappointed if you are already a fan of Marshall's medical series and if this is your first, then do go back and read the others!!
I received a free copy from the author but I voluntarily reviewed this book.
WOW this is a magical story beautifully written and takes on some issues that are very moving and heartfelt I loved it from page one the strength and courage of both the heroine and hero is awesome and MS Marshall has bought it all to life on these pages.
Dr Wes Van Allen is a neurosurgeon and is used to getting his own way he comes from a wealthy privileged family so when an accident takes his ability to walk away and leaves him in a wheelchair he pushes himself to carry on and get some strength back and working out in the gym but he has been through a few physical therapists, so when and old and close friend arrives on his doorstep to help he is not overjoyed but agrees to two months with Mary, attitudes and lives are going to change.
Mary Harris has always been smart and caring but she grew up in a trailer park with very poor parents so when she becomes friends with wealthy Alexander Van Allen this brings her in close contact with all of the Van Allen family and a crush on Wes since the age of 15. Roll on 10 years since they have seen each other and now Mary is a trained physical therapist arriving to help Wes, this sets sparks flying and with both of them wanting something very much a bargain is agreed on oh but this bargain sends hearts to aflutter and love grows.
This really is a moving beautiful story so well presented so well told that it captured me from the start and had me sighing and smiling in the end, it was fabulous seeing how Wes and Mary coped with their growing love and that need to be close, thank you MS Marshall for a story that will stay with me for a long time to come way to go.
An inspirational story of overcoming what life throws at you and finding a way to be all that you can be regardless! I really enjoyed this "feel good" story ... not only did we feel the genuine fondness that they felt for each other from the very beginning of the book, but as they let their guard down and shared their inner most thoughts and feelings with each other, we watched their inner beings strengthen and a personal depth shine through. Great characters, a solid plot and a top of the line job of showing the drawbacks of life in a wheelchair, as well as a good bit about newer studies and technologies that are being developed.
Neurosurgeon Wesley Van Allen was at the top of his game when a freak accident put him into a wheelchair and stripped him of the ability to see a future worth anything at all. He is angry and bitter and trying with all of his might to not become the weakling that people see when they see him in this contraption.
Physical therapist Mary Harris has known and adored Wes for years as his sister's best friend. She is putting her foot down and taking over for a couple of months to get him whipped into shape. She won't let him ignore the part of him that doesn't work anymore, and is set on getting him stronger and better equipped with skills to achieve the brogjt future he can easily still have!
As attraction boils to the surface and awkward talks abound, will they decide to take their friendship to a new level? And when Wes finds out that Mary would give anything to have a baby ... will he volunteer to be the daddy?
Wesley Van Allen is a skilled neurosurgeon and because of this has lived a wonderful life with all the best life has to offer. A magnificent home near the ocean the best of the best. Life is good, until a ski accident leaves him a paraplegic. He tries not to accept that he cannot be the doctor he was but trying to go back to work only makes him accept the life he knew is over. Enter Mary Harris a physical therapist that has had a crush on Wes since high school when she spent a lot of time at his home. Seeing what he physically looks like and how much immobility has done to him she asks for time to help him. What comes next is an incredible story of determination and love. An amazing story of perseverance and how much can be achieved if a persons spirit doesn't give up. A story not to be missed between the wonderful medical side which is enlightening and the chemistry between Westley and Mary. Kudos to Lynne Marshall for writing this amazing, wonderful, inspirational and loving story. Always love her books and this one is exceptional. Can't say enough about it except hope no one misses it. Not enough stars to give it, loved it from page one.
Miracle for the Neurosurgeon by Lynne Marshall Mary Harris is a physical therapist and she lives in a tiny house that she can transport to each destination for however many months she would be at that position. She is familiar with the Van Allen family as she spent many hours in their home. Wes Van Allen had an accident that resulted in him being in a wheel chair. He was a successful Neurosurgeon and he already had tried to go back to work but was not successful. Wes feels like his life as he knew it will never be and that means going back to work, having a girlfriend let alone having a family. Mary is there for 2 months and helps him regain more of his life than he ever expected. There is a give and take between the two after a while – Mary will help him achieve dream of going back to work and more if he will help her help her achieve her dream of becoming a mother. Please enjoy and you will not be disappointed in the book and wish I could give this book more than 5 stars. Lynne Marshall is a favorite author.
Wow is all I can say. Miracle for the Neurosurgeon by Lynne Marshall is a brilliantly delivered story. It makes you think about your life and how lucky most of us are.
Wesley Van Allen, a neurosurgeon, became a paraplegic following a ski accident. Suddenly, his life changed from him being the golden boy with the brightest future to a man stuck in a chair for the rest of his life. Mary Harris, a physical therapist, has had a crush on Wes since high school but apart from a couple of scorching hot kisses, they never took thing further. Now, Mary is determined to help Wes and she won’t take no for an answer.
This is a must read for any romance lover. Initially, I thought it would be a sad and difficult story to read, but it was an attention grabber from the word go. I love the dialogue between Wes and Mary, they have copious amounts of chemistry between them. They are witty, sexy and won’t let a little thing like a wheelchair get in their way. Fabulous book by Lynne Marshall!
I couldn't wait to read this story about a newly paraplegic doctor and how the woman who'd love him since she was fifteen, now a physical therapist, came back into his life as a friend to help him learn to deal with his disability. I not only enjoyed the love story, I loved learning what can be done these days to help a paraplegic lead a full life, including once again enjoying lovemaking. Highly satisfying read. Thank you, Lynne Marshall, for another lovely book.
Written with clarity and skill, not a word was wasted. The story of Wes and Mary is inspiring, emotional and completely engaging.
Miracle for the Neurosurgeon is just that touch more incredible because Lynne has that extra bit of inside knowledge that she can apply to her stories and make you feel completely caught up and engrossed in what's going on AS WELL AS learning something.
Stunningly written, emotions captured perfectly, two characters who already have a past and an interesting plot makes this book a non-stop read which I will be reading again in the future.
Lynn Marshall , your book " Miracle for the Neurosurgeon " it had my heart strings from the first words written.
Wesley Van Allen, was a "Golden Boy" at being a Neurosurgeon, the best in his field. UNTIL , one fatal day, one slip, one wrong turn and it was ALL GONE. The skiing accident left Wesley paraplegic what he thought was gonna be for the rest of his life. But MARY HARRIS , therapist, had other ideas for him.
Little did Wesley know that in the End of the Grand scheme of things, he would be the richest man Ever. But will MARY HARRIS be his future, or his demise.
Lynn Marshall's ***Miracle for the neurosurgeon ", is not ONLY A must Read it will make You feel things you have never felt before, more love, more passion, more EVERYTHING. LYNN MARSHALL I WAIT PATIENTLY FOR MORE UPCOMING RELEASES. THANK YOU...
"Miracle for the Neurosurgeon" by Lynne Marshall is a wonderful, quick, Medical romance. Neurosurgeon Wes Van Allen was injured and an accident has put him in a wheelchair. Physical Therapist Mary Harris has to deal with him the good and the bad. Mary gives Wes inspiration to prove to himself that he still has much to offer especially at being a man.
Miracle for the Neurosurgeon by Lynne Marshall captivated me from the outset. I always learn something when I read a novel by Ms. Marshall and she definitely didn’t disappoint with this one. She does extensive research when writing her medical novels and it definitely shows. I loved reading about Wes’ vulnerability and Mary’s desire to help him. Even though Wes believed his life was forever changed by his accident, he learned how to persevere. As medical science progressed, he took advantage of it and was able to reclaim his career. This is a must read for anyone who loves reading a medical romance. This is definitely worthy of five stars and I wish it could be rated higher as this was such a fabulous read. I commend Ms. Marshall for tackling this storyline as I haven’t read one about a paraplegic quite like this. Kuddos, Ms. Marshall! I highly recommend Miracle for the Neurosurgeon and any medical romance written by Ms. Marshall.
I like the Harlequin medical series and I accept that some books are better than others. I also like Lynne Marshall. This book was interesting to me since I know nothing about the sex life of a paraplegic. The book only had two characters. The remaining characters were so minor that they were non existent. I probably will not read This again. No, it was not worth the money. However, I am an escape reader and I did enjoy the escape on something interesting. I probably could have read a medical journal for free but no sex, no little house, and no HEA.
Lynne Marshall's book, Miracle for the Neurosurgeon, is a second chance romance. Wesley Van Allen's life as a neurosurgeon takes a hit when he has a waterskiing accident and ends up in a wheelchair. His sister calls her friend, Mary Harris, when he needs a new physical therapist. Mary had spent so much time at the Van Allen home growing up, that she was like Wesley's second kid sister. When she shows up to help him, he agrees to two months of her help. This is a fun book. Marshall has written interesting characters and situations.
I have been reading the genre of Medical Mills and Boon for over 20 years and I have to say this is the best to date of all Lynne Marshall's books that I have perused. Well done Ms Marshall. You have been cemented in my mind as an author a cut above the norm.
