Author Tom Morgan wrote about the end of the world. He never expected to live it.
Once power failed in Portland, the clock started ticking. Tom must scavenge supplies to get his friends to his home on the Oregon coast.
Only some covet what he possesses. Death rides shotgun on this desperate drive.
When power dies, civilization dies. “The Scorched Earth” chronicles the frantic fight for survival as society collapses around one man determined to save those closest him. And the price he must pay to do it.

i don't usually write reviews BUT decided i had to on this one because it's that bad.... the premise is good the story IS NOT! if you think, groups of people killing each other for resources just "hours" after an EMP when the stores are full, risking their life and leaving their kids and wives with out a father, when all they have to do is find a store to loot ! If you think band of roving gangs are going around, attacking and killing people JUST fricken hours after the attack is realistic ... then by all means this book if for you ! stupid stupid stupid can't stand books that think the reader does not have 2 brain cells... we have at least 6 brain cells because we CAN read.. save your brain cells no matter how many u got and don't read this garbage !!!!!! this is the first book i gave 1 start and i have read some bad books... this is the first book i wrote a review for ... that's how bad it is and i have been on this site for years
I've been reading Terry's books for several years now. When I heard he was going in the post-apocalyptic genre, I was excited. Between the Empire saga and the Humanity series, I had confidence in his taking a chance with something new. My confidence was well-placed. The Scorched Earth is an interesting tale on the SHTF genre, and shows that even writers can be awesome when in their preferred "real-life" element. I did like that we're seeing everything over the protagonist's shoulder, rather than a fully omniscient narrator, because that keeps the tale more intimate. I definitely can recommend this to anyone who enjoy this genre.
Overall a quick and easy read that I quite enjoyed. Not to the same caliber as The Empire of Bones (reviewed here), but an interesting idea with some really well-done action sequences.
The characters are a bit too lucky (hence my lower score) however and everything seems to go their way which is somewhat annoying but I have high hopes for book 2! My full review is on Zone6 here.
This is a apocalypse novel, not a zombie one, but I didn't have the tag for general apoc and I'm lazy.
This was a reasonably good novel. I'm quite starting to like this author. I found him because he has a series with Glynn Stewart who I also like.
The characters aren't amazing but they aren't utterly interchangeable either. I wonder if this author will actually get around to writing sequels to this. He seems pretty busy with his Empire of Bones series, which I like a lot, so I'm not complaining. :)
Fun and entertaining even though it feels rushed and contrived at times. A bit thin on character development but makes up for it with action. Mixon manages to catch the sense of urgency but perhaps glosses over too much.
Not his best work but it was certainly thought provoking and entertaining. Perhaps the best line is (paraphrasing) when Rachael tells Tom, "They think they are ready, but you are."
I read the preview chapters on the author's website and could not wait until the book came out. The book did not disappoint and was over to soon. I can't wait for the next one.
I really enjoy the authors style of writing, well thought out and believable, enough depth for you to understand what is going on without bogging the story down with insignificant info.
I truly hope to see more of this particular saga because Ijust love all of the characters. Tom is a great leader in his little group of people to travel a small distance.
Please write another book in follow of this one, Terry Mixon!

Ooohhh la la...Mr. Mixon is one of my new favorite authors. This book was well written with fast paced action and good character development. Very good prepper information also. I can not wait for book 2!
