Story #0.7 - Included in SHIFTING GROUND: A SHORT STORY COLLECTION
Born illegally, Willow never stood a chance at a normal life. Meeting a boy and falling in love with him was apparently too good to be true as well because even that is dangerous and forbidden. Because to be safe is to avoid life, apparently.

In this second part of Willows story, we find out more about her and her life, how her family moved to the forest to make them safe, as knowing they had the two children and the law states they should only have one, she spends her days in the forest foraging with her mother and learning at home, despite wanting to spend her time at school with her sister. We watch as Willows heart falls for someone she can’t have. This series goes from strength to strength, and gets better with every instalment, each story reveals more details and another part of the journey. Alice Rachel takes you to a different world and even though the story is short, it’s a compelling read that reveals more of the story than you think possible in so few pages.
This is a quick story if Willows life, growing up as an unwanted. In this world, middle class people are only allowed to have one child and if they birth more then one, they are forced to hide the child who is known as the 'unwanted.' Willow grows up in the forest, learning how to fend for herself with the help of her parents.
The take takes us into Willows life growing up in the forest and more....being a short I don't want to give much away but this story did leave me feeling a little sad.
Willow: A Short Story 2 (Under Ground #0.7) by Alice Rachel is part the Under Ground series. I highly recommend you read the previous books in this series, to help you understand the characters a little bit more. This story is the second part of Willow's story. This author's creation of this character is just great. In this installment, you will really get to see who Willow is. It is a short story that will keep you engaged until the end. Find out what happens to Willow in this story.
Willow is a young girl who has fallen in love with the wrong boy. She knows that they can never be together. She is heart broken as she tries to make her relationship with Chi work. She is an unwanted so that alone puts her in danger. She stands no chance at a normal life. What will she do, will she try to continue her relationship with the one she loves? Is the only way to be safe, is to hide? She just wants to be with her love, will she find a way to be with him? Will she ever forgive herself? Will he ever forgive her?
This story will give you an incite to Willow but also you get to see some of Stephen too. You will see that Willow as a character grows in this story which makes her a stronger character. She will pull at your heart strings as you watch her struggle with her heart. She has a hard time dealing with her feelings but the heart wants what the heart wants. Alice Rachel has created another installment that will keep you wanting more. Alice loves spending time with her husband and guinea pigs. When she is not writing, she teaches French, reading and drawing. Even though this is a short story, it is a fast paced story. I highly recommend this story as I know you will want to see what happens with Willow as much as I did.
Willow: A Short Story 2 (Under Ground #2.7) by Alice Rachel 5 out of 5 stars
This is Willows story part 2 of Ms. Rachel’s short stories in the Under Ground Series and hopefully I will be reading a few more of her books tonight. I simply love her work. She has this unique way of telling her story that has you stepping into her world and the characters are well developed. What happens when the authorities have laws and one of them is the middle class can only have one child and you end up pregnant a second time? We see Willow growing up in the forest and learning from her mother. But, growing up Willow had questions like why she can’t go into the city or why she can’t attend school or even have friends. Born illegally, Willow never stood a chance at a normal life. Meeting a boy and falling in love with him was apparently too good to be true as well because even that is dangerous and forbidden. I highly recommend this story/series and you need to read them in-order to get the full effect of the series… I just simply love these characters and story line. I can’t get enough of this series…. Book Review: Willow: A Short Story Book 2 Author: Alice Rachel FOUR STARS Willow's Short Story book 2 is about Willow as a young child and then as a teenager. This is a very short 15 minute read that gives you some of the detail about how Willow was raised and the events of her life. Willow is the second born child of a middle class family. Middle class families may only have one child by law, therefore, making Willow an unwanted and illegal member of the family. Willow's family has moved to the woods and her father has gotten a different job so they can hide from the officers and raise both of their daughters hopefully without detection. Willow is taken into the forest almost daily to help her mother collect fruits and mushrooms to help feed their family. She is taught at home and is never to leave home or go anywhere alone. If Willow is found the officers will kill her and imprision her entire family or worse. In the woods is where Willow meets Stephen and falls in love with him. Alice Rachel has a vivid way of describing this new world that she writes about. Kelli Harper
Willow: A Short Story 2 is another mini story in the Under Ground Series by Alice Rachel. This shows Willow's point of view, and begins when she is a small child, and meets Stephen for the first time. She cannot leave the woods, since she is an Unwanted. She and Stephen are just friends, for years, since they met when she was 9, and he was one of the only children she ever meets in her sheltered life. Skip ahead 8 years, and they are in love. However, Stephen's mom finds out and decides they cant see each other again, and Chi and Willow should marry. I liked this story a little more than Willow's first book, but the order of events is weird to me. I kind of think the should have been combined into one story, telling her whole life, but it is what it is. It is worth reading, so you can see her feelings first hand. I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the Under Ground series, to get a little more detail. I liked how Rachel captured the feelings of the character across childhood into teen years in love. 4 star review.
Willow: A Short Story 2 (Under Ground #0.7) by Alice Rachel is part the Under Ground series. You need to read Book 1 before reading the short stories. This short story gives you a better understanding of Willow and her relationships with Stephen and Chi. As an ‘Unwanted’ she is brought up knowing she must live in secret and that the ‘Authorities’ will take her if they find out about her. She falls in love Stephen – a love that must end. Willow has to let him go. The only relationship she can have is with another ‘Unwanted’. But, can she love Chi after Stephen? A tragic story of love and loss. I love Alice Rachel’s work. She has developed her characters so that they are multi-dimensional and these short stories detailing the points of view of her characters give them greater depth and perspective. To know your characters so well to be able to do this shows an amazingly creative mind as well as skill. Willow’s story is a great addition to the Underground Series.
Willow (#2) is A Short Story in the Underground series. It is a very short story that gives us a snapshot of willows childhood, through to her later teenage years. We find out what it was like in her family, having been born an unwanted- where people of her society were only allowed to have one child, so if another is born they are called an unwanted, and are kept hidden from the authorities. Willow doesn’t really understand why she is different from other children, or why she can’t attend school with her sister, or why she has to remain ‘hidden’- or why she isn’t allowed to see Stephen. She loves him and wants to be with him. This is such a short story; it was over way too soon. This story is also extremely sad. I won’t say anymore because I don’t want to give away the little that was there.
****4 Stars**** Willow, a short story #2 (Under Ground 0.7) by Alice Rachel
Willow: Under Ground 0.7 by Alice Rachel is a quick 4 star short story that follows Willow, an Unwanted, from early childhood into her teen years. The story explains how Willow grew up as an Unwanted, spending time with her mother in the forest, meeting Stephen, learning why they couldn't be together and the risks involved and then discovering more about his secrets. This is a quick and easy read with a lot of information, some of which was a restating of things read in the other stories in the series, but with added information that the reader isn't aware of until reading this. This short story adds new details to what we already know and helps provide more background and understanding when it comes to Willow.
Willow: A Short Story 2 By Alice Rachel **5 Stars**
In Willow’s second short story we dive deeper into Willow’s past. We start when she is seven years old and We get a chance to see the loving side of the unwanted children. Willow’s parents embrace being the parent of an unwanted child and raised a true selfless person. In the end she chooses love and her story is a heart breaking one. I wish we had more stories from Willow and Stephen.
Willow: A Short Story 2 by Alice Rachel tells the story of how Willow grew up and learned that she was an unwanted. It also tells the story of how she met Stephen and fell in love, as well as their plan to run away together and how it truly ended.
I really love these short little books of Rachel’s. It allows readers to learn more about the characters so that you can really understand why they are the way that they are! Another great read by Rachel!
Willow: A Short Story 2, this takes place during Willow’s younger years. She doesn’t understand why she has to hide, why she can’t go to school, much less like the boy she has met. Her sister Lila gets everything and she doesn’t know why. All her mother has mentioned is the word “unwanted”. She doesn’t understand the meaning of that and is waiting for answers.
I really enjoyed this part of the Willow shorts. Though its just as intense as part 1 of the shorts, there was more about Willow’s young life and how she dealt with growing up being unwanted compared to her sister. Emotional and gripping, this short will give you the feels for the character’s in this astounding series.
This was a good short story to see how much Willow loved Stephen and a different Unwanted perspective a more kind family and what Willow was wanting to accomplish before events prevented her to.
Willow is such a kind soul who doesn't deserve this kind of negativity in her life! She's such a smart person who would be homeschooled with leftovers from her sisters censored education. One of her quotes she tells Stephen about anger really spoke to me and I related well too it, so much so that I posted a picture of it on my snapchat.
She's very naïve, she takes what her parents say for granted and doesn't question their sheltering of her. I admire her ability to tune out the negativity in her live, but believe she's got it coming towards the end of her story. Everything that had happened was needed for the reader to understand Stephen too so I understand.
Reading this makes me wonder things about how Willows life would have been given her Unwanted status if she never met the Richards. Does any other reader wonder that too?
I loved this short story and I love Willow's point of view. Thank you Miss Alice!
“Why did you give birth to me mom? Why am I here if I can’t have a life? This is part two of Willow’s tragic short story. It picks up when she is just seven years old. It is apparent that she is loved and wanted by her parents, despite what society is trying to tell them. “You are our miracle and our secret sweetie. When I was pregnant with you, we moved here so I could give birth at home and hide you.” Willow struggles with wondering why she was even born just to be an unwanted. “But people from the middle class are only allowed to have one child.” “Why did you give birth to me mom? Why am I here if I can’t have a life? Then why live at all?” Willow’s story really struck a chord with me. Especially as a mother myself. I can’t imagine having to live in the situations they are in and hiding my flesh and blood, the things I am the proudest of. Kudos to Alice Rachel for writing such a big story in a small perfect novella.
Willow 2 is a short story by Alice Rachel that should be read after the second book and after Stephen and Chi’s second short stories, it is part of her Under Ground series. This is the short story where I really really hated the writer for a moment! Until reading this story, for some reason, I had hold on to the hope that Willow somehow will still be there for Stephen but hell, Alice, I know, you had to write it the way you did as it so totally made sense … it did not matter though at that moment, you broke my heart and I found myself thinking (and dreaming) about Willow after finishing the story … Her words “Why did you give birth to me mom? Why am I here if I can’t have a life? Then why live at all?” keep haunting me … I appreciate how the writer gave us deeper insight into who Willow was so that we were able to celebrate her life the way she deserved it!
Willow’s story continues to be heart breaking. The society that Alice Rachel has invented is keeping people segregated by social levels. There’s not to be any “mixing” of the levels. But in true romance fashion: You can’t help who you love. Willow is an unwanted in love with Stephen. But they cannot be together…or so it seems. Alice Rachel leads us to believe that maybe just maybe love may prevail. But then she throws another twist in and who knows what’s going to happen! Willow is a strong girl with her heart in the right place. She wants to save Stephen from a miserable life without her but yet she knows he could be destined for greatness. Alice Rachel has series with a lot of heart. Her stories are labeled short stories and they are intriguing and captivating. I look forward to reading the rest of this series and recommend you start reading with Under Ground book 1.
Willow: A Short Story 2 is part of the Under Ground Series #0.7 by Alice Rachel. This set of short stories are small snapshots, most less than 50 pages, and written in different points of view. Therefore, they should be read in order to get the whole picture of this story.
This is a continuation of Willow’s story. As an unwanted Willow knows she can not lead a normal life. She must remain in hiding to stay safe. Will she chose to stay with Chi to keep Stephen safe, or will she chose to follow her true love? This is a very interesting chapter in Willow’s point of view.
That is the thing about this series each little chunk is a block of time that you get with from each character's point of the same period. They make for very interesting chunks of the big picture.
Willow 2 by Rachel Alice is another short story in the Underground series and is a great 4 star read. We continue Willow's story in this book, she is not actually in the main books herself but is discussed. She is such an important character. These short stories portray so much in a very short space of time, poor Willow has a tragic life, she has to hide as she is an unwanted, her parents go against society and the law by having her but then still force her into a marriage she doesn't want. Maybe force is the wrong work but she cannot follow her heart the way her parents did when they had her. I find her story very sad. This series really gets better with each book and these short stories are genius, they fill in so much detail while not detracting from the plot of the main books. These are a must read.
Willow: A Short Story 2 by Alice Rachel 4 stars A little bit like Chi’s second story we go back in time and find out about Willow’s childhood and what it’s like to live as an unwanted! I really did feel sorry for Willow because she just really wanted to be like her big sister! She didn’t want everything she owned to have been her sisters first! The author has done a really great job with these short stories and how they have enabled me as a reader to understand the characters more! It was also nice to read about how Willow and Stephen first met!
Willow: A Short Story 2 (UNDER GROUND #0.6) Alice Rachel – 4 Stars Reading in the correct order, this is the 11th story to read. Continuing from Willow’s point of view, we see how she first met Stevie and how she came about to know about animals and mushrooms. I’m so glad that Willow always knew she was “wanted”. The story of her birth is a beautiful story for her to know. As with many of the characters in this story I have had a variety of feelings for Willow. In the end, I’m glad I got a better understanding of who she is and why she was to that way to Chi.
Willow's story is so sad! She doesn't understand why she is different, why she can't she Stephen, and why she can't go to school. It is nice to see how much Willow's family loves her. Yeah, they won't let her see Stephen but they do genuinely care about her. Things were not that bad for Willow's family.... until Stephen ruined them.
Alice Rachel did a great job with this short story about Willow. The novel leaves out a lot about what she goes through and kind of leaves us hanging. This story gives us the rest of the story. I was really surprised by the ending. She is a wonderful storyteller with a creative imagination.
Unfortunately this book was much too short to really feel like a story. Too fractured to develop deep emotions. Interesting background on Willow's point of view but I would have liked to read much more about and from her.
Willow a short story 2 is seventh in Alice Rachel's Under Ground short stories (0.7) that takes place during her Under Ground series. These are embellishment stories that give you more insight on the characters in the series. Willow shouldn't have been born, only one child is legitimate to a family, the second is unwanted and illegal. Even though people must not know about her, she falls for her new neighbor and realizes all of the things she will never get to do with him. I feel bad for her, for the things she won't experience. I guess I feel bad for all the unwanted, including Chi.
