Workplace safety is failing. Despite better procedures now in place on the job, people are still getting hurt. The problem lies in our thinking. We must shift the focus from rules to relationships.
In PeopleWork , author and safety management consultant Kevin Burns presents his M4 Method of people-centered management for safety in the workplace. He lays out the practical, how-to steps that frontline supervisors and safety people can master. This promotes a relationship-based culture focused on mentoring, coaching, and inspiring teams. It’s an approach that ultimately improves employee productivity and allows everyone to achieve their personal goals and the goals of their company.
With PeopleWork , you can raise workplace safety to a level where it actually works.
I listened to this on audio- which is hard for me. Im glad this book was short because I got what I needed the most in the first chapter. After Chapter 1, my mind wandered on what I just listened to. I had to keep rewinding to hear what the rest of the book was about. The after Chapter 1, the book pretty much turns into leadership talk, which is good. But I needed and wanted the first part, so im glad I read it.
I read this as an assignment from work. So, if your job already has a really good safety program with people that take the well being of everyone seriously like my job already does, this won't help much. The reason why is because there's great suggestions in here, but fall flat with vagueness in their presentation. Telling the reader to go about things in a certain manner is great if you're going to elaborate. Vaguely suggesting that a route be taken isn't actually that helpful. If you're hoping I'd say more in detail, I'm not going to because this review is written exactly like how the book is, so that's the gist.
I am far away in the corporate career ladder from becoming a safety manager. However, this book has really valuable advice for safety engineers as well. I hope I remember to go back to this book when that happens (joke). Approaching the human factor from the perspective Kevin Burns does it so essential for overall safety, both from the operational and corporate point of view. I will definitely be proposing several premises in this book to both my co-workers and manager during safety meetings.
