After a particularly difficult year at work (and suffering from some physical ailments due to stress), my daughter thought I could use this book. I read it twice - back to back - to get the most out of it. I annotated and made a bunch of notes. I really do believe this helped me to bring down my stress and anxiety levels.
The book is broken into different sections: techniques for being calm, being calm at home and at work, calming the mind, getting enough rest and eating right, exercising right and relaxing. Each section has a balance of inspirational quotes and suggested tasks. The quotes and illustrations are nice. At first, I wasn’t sure why they were included except to make the book longer, which may be true. However, I also realized that the quotes slowed my reading, which allowed me to reflect on the tasks longer before moving to the next part. It forced me to be more reflective and take time to really focus on what would work for me in terms of making some necessary changes to my lifestyle.
If you are feeling stressed or anxious, I would suggest this book to help you make some concrete changes that will help you to be more calm and feel balanced.
I really liked it!!! Honestly, I did not expect much but the book surprised me! The artwork is simply gorgeous. There are so many positive wise quotes in it that just make you think and smile. The tips were actually helpful, coming from someone who actually suffers from anxiety!
Anna Barnes' books are pretty to look and relaxing to read... I always like her advices but sometimes I feel that she doesn't write her book to the whole world... she focuses on her audience in the UK. Some of her tips are impossible to do in the real world, like her tips on work... or her tips about family. They are all so reasonable and nice but in the real world saying "no" to your boss will not give you "his respect", he will only fire you, and hire someone who could work more. Having family stress and problems aren't solved with being calm, usually such problems are caused by a member in the family who doesn't play well with the whole team or someone who could be abusive.
I quite like how this book focused on practical things to do and that it clearly wasn't attempting to address actual mental health problems. Just cute tips on how to be calm with beautiful artwork. There was nothing particularly interesting or new here but there doesn't necessary need to be and it was very well presented.

This was a beautiful book which you can easily get finished in 2 hours and less. This would be a perfect book to get into non-fiction because the writing is really simple and has beautiful writing with amazing illustrations with some great tips to get you motivated. The only downside is that some of the information is a bit obvious.
Now most of the tips in this book is info that most of us are already aware of, but the imagery and artwork is beautiful and makes this book a worthwhile short easy read.
I really loved how this book provided simple tips. I also appreciate how she never said that these were things that would cure anxiety. She did a great job providing lots of different ideas and examples of how to include them into daily life. It’s a beautifully illustrated book as well!

Поки не дуже вдається, але я стараюся. Ця книжка з дуже гарними малюнками і навіть її гортання уже заспокоює. Різні методики коротко описані і проілюстровані, а ще є класні вислови відомих людей. Колористика цієї книжки вражає. Власне, зараз часто її гортаю і застосовую методи із заспокоєння і "самособоюнаповнення"
Such a fantastic and beautiful book! I love that it was not one of these books where the pages were just so full of information that it was too much to handle. This book had the perfect balance of lighthearted quotations and useful information. I have definitely taken a lot of the hints and tips from this book into consideration and I have begun using them in everyday life. I have definitely noticed a change in my mood and mindset.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone facing difficulty at work or in everyday life. It contains some fantastic advice on how to handle your current situation and advises small changes that you can make that can make a huge difference to your mood and mindset.
I love the artwork in this book. I haven't read a book similar to this but I have taken a look into them & I think this one is better than the average ones. It doesn't tell you anything new. They're just reminders, basically. They're quotes/reminders you can find online. But I think that that was the purpose of the book. So, if you want something like that, you're going to like the book. It's very realistic but not something that would do something to you unless you're in a certain mental state where you believe these simple things can make a change and you're ready to take these simple tips & apply them.
Könyvecske, de inkább azt mondanám, hogy munkafüzet. Megjelent egyébként az Önbizalom része is, az piros. Nem igazán könyv, hanem ilyen illusztrált idézetek, rövid kis tanácsok, akár kimásolható kis ábrák jellemzik az egész könyvet. Mondjuk szerintem az Önbizalom egy picit, egy fokkal jobb. Ez eléggé olyanokat mond el, amit már mindenhol hallottunk, de hát ugye én azt vallom, hogy egy újszülöttnek minden vicc új, tehát biztos van olyan, akinek még ezek a gondolatok újak lesznek. Hát akkor hadd örüljön és hadd nézze meg, hogy miket lehet és tényleg ezen úgy el lehet meditálni. Nagyon kis szép egyébként, ilyen nézegetős könyv, nem olvasni való elsősorban.
My edition of How to be Calm is green, not blue. And, for me, the color green represents calm. So, now, after reading this, I look over at my coffee table and see this green book and my blood pressure starts to drop. I feel a blanket of tranquility envelop me knowing the great nuggets of wisdom inside.

This is a simple book, but, for me, it is perfect!
Τίποτα πρωτότυπο όμως καθόλα ευχάριστο βιβλίο αυτοβοήθειας. Σε περιόδους ήπιας έντασης ή άγχους θεωρώ πως είναι αρκετά βοηθητικό γιατί μπορεί να υπενθυμήσει στον κάθε άνθρωπο πως δεν μπορούμε να ελέγχουμε τα πάντα. Μικρό εύκολο στην ανάγνωση με υπέροχες εικόνες και χρώματα. Δυστυχώς δεν παρέχει καμία ουσιαστική βοήθεια σε κάποιον άνθρωπο που είναι πολύ αγχομένος ή βιώνει μια πολύ έντονη συναισθηματικά φορτισμένη περίοδο.
This book should be in the hands of every person on the planet. The resources, the suggestions, the techniques are fantastic. I have used several of these techniques both professionally and personally. I'm thrilled to have learned so many new things to focus on overall wellness. This is not a book to just read and put back on the shelf. This is a guide to use daily to improve your quality of life.
To begin with the artwork is just beautiful and that alone would make this book worth buying but the quotes and advice is extremely helpful and I have found myself reflecting on this book when I do find myself in hard times and it has helped me become the person I am today and I am super lucky to of found the book and gave it a chance :)
Found this book at Barnes and Noble and I was struck by how visually beautiful the entire book is inside. Nothing super surprising, but has good reminders on how to slow down and practice mindfulness and calm.
There is some genuine good advice given in this book. There are 9 different categories of advice written in quotes and written pieces like an article. I enjoyed reading this book.
I love this book! A very beautiful and simple read. The illustrations and quotes are inspiring. I will keep this book on hand whenever I need a quick pick-me-up.
Less of the optimistic and creative notes & quotes as found within the other books of this series and more of a do & don’t of eating and drinking, mental health and exercise. 2.5/5
