Haunted Tour Guide Mystery #6

Hauntin' After Midnight

Rate this book
The paranormal is attached to Ripley Van Raden twenty-four hours a day. At night, Ripley is a haunted tour guide. During the day, the paranormal find her too. She’s the head librarian at the extremely haunted Bilson Library in Devil’s Moon, Kentucky.

It’s no surprise that someone would seek Ripley’s help with a terrifying haunted house in town. At first, Ripley isn’t convinced the place is haunted. Could the place be more sinister than Ripley imagines? It looks that way when Ripley discovers a woman murdered on the home’s lawn.

At least she has the help of handsome Brannon Landon, detective with the Devil’s Moon Police Department and part-time paranormal investigator. Ripley has to find the killer before her overdue date comes too soon. A book just might hold the clue to solving the crime.

This was a fun addition to this series. I love the characters, especially Annie the library ghost. Annie seemed to be a bit more front & center this time as she actually left the library because she was upset. The mystery was a bit more complex and there were a lot of players in this one. Again, my issue seems to be with editing. I have never read more than one of this author's books at a time and don't normally notice it quite as much. However, this week I read several and the errors are starting to grate on my nerves. I do like the stories so I am gonna step away and read something else.

I liked this book okay. I always love haunted cozy mysteries and I have read all of the books in this series, along with others by her. This was my least favorite only because in some spots the writing and phrases were just not up to her usual par. I love most of the characters and I love that she works in a library. I will probably read more of hers only because this is the first one I have felt that way about.

These books are always fun. Rip is approached by Katrina Kohl to rid her wonderful victorian home of a ghost that has become bothersome & scary. Rip agrees to see what she can do, though she really has no experience in that regard.

The women tells Rip, she will tear the house down if it cannot be resolved. Rip does what she can, but the ghost returns. The woman decides to demo the house. Rip loves that old Victorian house, & with her best friend, Tammy's encouragement, she decides to offer to buy the house. But the woman is set on destroying the house so no one would be hurt. Rip returns to the house to have a look around, as Rip so often does, & discovers the dead body of the woman.

A niece of the woman, Erin Kohl, shows up & asks if Rip is still interested in buying the house. Though Rip would love to say yes, she hesitates in doing so to honor the wishes of Katrina. In the meantime, Brannon has some police protection assigned to Ripley, when her life is threatened. Then there's the black shadow that seems to have attached itself to Rip. Rip does seem to have problems with shadows.

Hauntin after midnight

This was a mystery story starring a librarian by the name of Ripley. She dates a cop named Brannon and they both are able to see ghosts. Ripley also conducts haunted tours of the town. She likes to solve mysteries and this book contains several. She is called by a lady named Katrina to help her with a haunting of the house she was living in with her boyfriend but has recently moved out of because she said it had a presence that was evil. Ripley goes with Katrina to the house which she immediately loves as it is an old Victorian house. They walk through the house with burning sage and Ripley tells Katrina she doesn’t sense anything. This starts a Ripley on a trail of ghosts and the murder of Katrina. The book could use some editing help but otherwise is a cute mystery.

I really liked this series in the beginning, but it's starting to get a little stale. Same old tour every single night gets boring. I can't imagine paying somebody to lead me around town after dark just to tell me stories about how the places are allegedly haunted. I wish the author would spend more time in the library and less time in the cemetery. All the gadgets used to try to record or capture the ghosts is also annoying. I am willing to suspend disbelief regarding text savvy ghosts, but the inventions are over the top for me. I paused this series for awhile hoping my interest would be rekindled when I went back to it. Unfortunately, absence hasn't made my heart grow fonder.

The Haunted House

Ripley Van Raden is a Ghost Tour Guide in Devil's Moon, Kentucky. A woman asks her to get rid of a ghost that is attaching her at her home. Now she is dealing with a malevolent ghost, human stalkers and falling down stairs. Oh, I forgot, and bodies are being found, mostly by Ripley. Can she stop the black misty ghost and the stalkers before she is the next body?
I got this at the entry price (probably free) and love this series it clean, scary fun!

Very interesting plot

I enjoyed this book in the series more than the last. Overlooking the spelling and grammatical errors this could have been an excellent read . However I am finding myself becoming hired with the characters. Scenes don't play out. Some leave you hanging.. I find myself hoping for more adult content. (I'm not saying sex scenes but a bit more mature)

Another great book

I love this series and each book is a fantastic read that I enjoy every time. Rip is always finding bodies or getting followed by ghosts so it makes for a very interesting series. Tammy is a great best friend and Brannon is good at supporting her and always believing her as well.

Plot wanders.

This book was not as good as prior books.
Seemed a bit disjointed. The mystery starts out well, but then seems to wander, in various directions . Just not as good as her books generally are.

Disjointed, disappointing dud

This was one of the most poorly written books I have ever read, with shallow characters and stilted, rambling dialog that could have been written by a teen. It was a waste of precious reading time.

Look before you are pushed

Another good read where the librian finds the body and the ghosts. Riley is in her element what with ghost and murder. She has to find out why the ghost keeps following her.

Keeps you guessing to the end!

No spoiler alert here! I'll just say that with ghosts, murders, and lots of cops the murder still isn't getting solved. And though I can often get an idea of who "done it", I couldn't figure this one out til the end! Enjoy b

I liked it

Paranormal cozy mystery.
It needs a better editor. Minor annoyances like rely instead of relay. No parenthesis at the beginning of a spoken sentence. No, I didn't take notes. Most kindle books don't have page numbers and I will not be an unpaid editor

Great Series

The murder mysteries get better with each book. More complex, more involved with murders in the far past, and more interaction with ghostly presences. Add in a great cast of characters and this is a fun read.

Close call for Ripley

Rip gets involved in another murder with ghosts and evil spirits. In this book, she comes a little to close to the killer. Read it to find out what happens. I loved it!

Ugh. Tedious.

Maybe I'm just the wrong audience for these books. Silly things like ghost hunting with phone apps, blundering into situations, interfering with police investigations - it's not entertaining.

Other than a couple of typo's toward the end of this book, it was just as fun to read as Miss Pressey's other books in this series. I love reading mystery and I love reading this particular series because it is so light-hearted. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Evil is everywhere

I really enjoyed this book. Could be a stand-alone. Only issue I have is whenever RIP starts a tour she says the same thing and that could mean we read it 2-3 times in a book. Seems like it is a space filler.
