Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001.
Rick Grimes is a strong-willed deputy who missed the end of the world because he was in a coma for a month after getting shot in the line of duty. Shaken, starving and confused, Rick escapes the horror of the abandoned hospital only to be met with something far more terrible. Not only has the world ended, but the dead have learned to walk and to kill without mercy. After learning that his wife and son have fled to Atlanta from a single survivor and his son, Rick goes on a journey to reunite with his family and search for more survivors.
Rick quickly has to come to terms with the fact that the world has ended and only a select few survived. The dead have risen from their graves and they prey on the living. In a world where every minute feels like hours, where there's no such thing as law and order, where finding a small meal is a tremendous task, the walking dead are quite possibly the least threatening thing for the survivors to have on their breaking minds. Humanity is pushed to the brink of destruction, forcing them to embrace their cruel and primal nature in order to survive. Sometimes you have to be more concerned about who you let into your community so they don't kill you in your sleep and steal everything you once cared about. Rick has no choice but to abandon the ways of law and order that he's upheld as an officer for so long in order to protect the few loved ones he has left. He has to become a monster to protect his crew or risk being devoured by those who became more monstrous than him and even the walking dead.
Despite zombies running the world and having the series named after them, what really sets this series apart from the average zombie apocalypse tale is the focus on realism and the daily struggles, flaws and depth of the characters. There's plenty of badass zombie killing action, but the action often takes a back seat to give the characters plenty of times to share their extremely tragic yet endearing stories, grow through mutual suffering and learn to adapt to a world that has left them to die. Even after the world has ended, many people still can't see eye to eye. They turn on each other and kill each other when they should come together. Others form alliances in spite of their differences and try to rebuild over the corpse of everything that was lost. The daily human drama and conflict is more intense than any monster apocalypse could hope to be.
We watch Rick struggle to balance his old moral code with the many necessary evils he has to commit in order to survive and make the world a better place for the ones he holds close. We watch people like Glen, Dale and Maggie attempt to find love in spite of having every reason to be filled with fear, hate and self-loathing. Characters like Michonne have to learn how to forgive themselves and convince themselves they deserve to be loved despite all the blood on their hands. We watch the weak like Carl and Andrea become strong and sometimes the strong become evil like The Governor. Even monsters like the wicked yet oddly lovable Negan are given the chance to find new ways of redeeming themselves by struggling alongside the other survivors that have all been changed by the horrors of the fallen world.
The pacing is extremely slow and I can understand why that may be a turnoff for a lot of people, but I eventually learned to enjoy watching the characters grow, overcome their trauma, find meaning in life and learn to love again. The characters are forced to do many terrible things to survive and it haunts them every waking moment. The ways they overcome these regrets is very realistic, human and hopeful. The slow pacing really gives the feeling that we're living beside these people. The way every tiny detail of their lives and who they are is explored makes them feel very real and believable.
When I first started reading the series, I wasn't expecting it to have such an uplifting ending. It seemed so bleak and nihilistic for a long time and things would go horribly wrong even when they seemed to be going so well, but the finale channels all the pain, suffering and betrayal of the previous volumes and tops it off with a very touching and inspiring finish. This was never a story about hopelessness. It's about learning to appreciate the little things, learning to forgive yourself and learning to move on even when it's hard. When everything seems lost there's always more to be found, even when we believe otherwise because we convince ourselves that we don't deserve to be happy ever again. Instead of dwelling on what was lost, strive to try and make things better than they were before.
I've never been a huge fan of zombie apocalypse stories, but The Walking Dead had enough heart and strong social commentary to make me stick by the characters until the end and I enjoyed every moment of their long trial.
I feel bad that Andrea was bitten and that she's going to die. I liked this comic version of her character, and I like how close she was with Rick and Carl. I'm just sad that they're going to lose her, just like they lost Lori, though I'm not sorry Lori's gone, and never will be.
Also, I'm glad that Andrea's still focused on getting the job done. It shows that she really cares for their people and their community, by the fact that she's putting the safety of the others, above concern for her. It makes her a really good character, and I'll miss her.
I'm glad that Siddiq and the others finally came out of their hiding spots, and hopefully they can help Rick and Negan take out the walkers that remain. I'm also glad that they agreed to finish off the rest using blades. Don't want to attract more unwanted attention.
Well, I'm glad that Carl was able to meet up with his father. I'm also glad that he and Rick didn't end up chopping each other up into little bits, because they thought each other were walkers. Lydia's little cheerleader like attitude is irritating.
Your relief was too quick, Rick. Those assholes that showed up, Sherry and her crew, aren't there to help you and Alexandria. They're just gonna be royal pains in the ass, who you should all take out with a single headshot. Just saying.
Ugh, can someone just please kill Sherry and her stupid ass boyfriend and their people? And can someone PLEASE put a fucking muzzle on Negan for the time being? All he's doing is making things even worse if that's possible.
I like how Dwight immediately went into defensive mode when Sherry and her band of morons got ready to attack. Not sure that Rick's crew will have much fight left in them after everything else, but hell, they've still at least got to try.
I know that Rick's trying to defuse a tense situation, but I doubt that Sherry and her people are going to listen to them at all. She just wants what she wants, and so do her people, and fuck anyone and everyone else apparently. Fuck Rick, right now. I'm with Dwight. Can't trust these assholes.
Sherry needs to get the fuck over herself. She's accusing Rick of all kinds of shit, but yet she and her stupid ass people were the ones who attacked first. Yes, I get that she's pissed that Negan's walking around free and clear after the shit he did. But all the rest of it, she just needs to get over it and move the fuck on.
That bitch has lost her fucking mind. Rick was right to call her insane. Going on her psychotic little rant about other people who are NOT Rick. She needs to have a bullet put in her head, so she'll shut the fuck up and we can be done with this bitch already.
If I was Rick and this bitch had been slapping me like that, I'd have head butted her and then kicked her fucking ass. Who the fuck does this whore think she is, to treat people the way she does? I'm glad that Rick kicked that bitch.
Now kill her, please..... Oh YES!! That bitch is dead! Thank God. Now we you don't have to waste any more comic space on the useless bitch. Did he break her back, though? There was a snap, but I can't tell if he broke her back or her neck. Though I'd think the neck would kill her and not a broken back.
I honestly don't give a fuck that it was an accident. I'm just glad that Sherry's dead. Sure, it'll make her stupid ass boyfriend angry, and their people, and possibly Dwight, too, but hopefully Dwight will know better and know it was an accident. If Rick had wanted to kill the bitch, he could've killed her in front of everyone. Just saying.
I'm glad that Andrea was the one who found them together, but I'm also sad because shes about to have to tell and show Rick that she was bitten. What a way to end the issue, though. That's so freaking sad. Only the Andrea part. I don't give a shit about Sherry.
Best issue in some time. I loved the way the crisis with the new group of Saviors got handled and its shocking (and troubling!) ending. Also, Rick really has to stop dating people because they all turn out to die... hopefully something crazy is on the horizon to save Andrea, but I wouldn't count on it.

Rick and Co. fight off a massive herd of walkers sent by the whisperers. The saviors demand out of the network and their new leader doesn't last long as their new Negan. Andrea meets up with Rick to reveal she's been.....
It's kind of annoying that Rick was put in a position where an accident with consequences took place. However, this could make what happens next interesting to watch.
Rick is still working towards finishing off the remaining walkers while Hilltops group meets them. Then come the saviors and then the shit when Rick and Sherry go to talk, Sherry tries to kill Rick but instead something something something something. Hehehe no spoilers .. It's no wonder The Walking Dead is a legendary series, it truly deserves all the praise it can get. I love The Walking Dead and it's style. It's wonderful and I love the journey taken with Rick and the group as they roam the wasteland in search of life and stability.
I have always loved comics, and I hope that I will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics or Diamond Comics or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I can. I Love comics to bit, may comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
Much like the television series the quality of the comics can very quite a bit, but I'm happy to say that recently it's been fantastic. The writing is excellent and the central plot is strong without being particularly convoluted, and I'm excited to see where the story will lead!
A new threat emerges just when Alexandria is able to get a handle on the herd of walkers. Will Rick and company be ready?
This was yet another action packed issue within the current arc but seemed to be shorter than the others.....even though it isn't. Illustrations are fantastic as always and the arc is starting to head towards its next storyline. Negan is still playing nice with Rick, but after they've managed to thin the herd of walkers threatening their community, it just paves the way for a new threat: Sherry and her group. A bigger concern though is the fate of Andrea. A lingering question since the last issue that unfortunately still hasn't been answered. We see she is starting to suffer from the effects....but what does this mean for Alexandria? And for Rick? Guess we'll have to wait until the next issue.

Sherry is spear heading a revolt and Rick decides to speak with her one on one behind close doors. She opens their talk with demands and becomes violently aggressive going so far as to choke out Rick. Before all is said and done tragedy strikes.
Also one of the most important people in Ricks group has been bitten and things will never be the same.
