I learned some things!
Che Guevara: A Life From Beginning to End by Hourly History is a very interesting book! I knew the very basics of him, the very, very basics! But this book went into a great deal about how he thought, good and bad. It also discussed the political settings that really moved him and Castro to act. Those settings were caused by U.S. interference in another countries government policies. It figures! I think if I was living there at the time and the U.S. interfered, I would have the same feelings. From there things got out of hand. Again with America and the Bay of Pigs. Very interesting book indeed. His death, I didn't know about that.

Having seen pictures of Che Guevara(I didn’t knew who he was or what’s he done), motivated me to read this short and concise story on him, his dreams and revolutionary ideas.

The life itself proves futility of communism. What did Che gain ultimately apart from his strong faith in idealism. The poor villagers of Bolivia wanted to get rid of him too. The communism ruins Venezuela recently. The concept of communism is just a balloon with full of optimism, jargon, conflict but ultimately can not give any solution.

Having read about Che I can assure that this is very insightful and concise account on one of the most famous personalities across the world. In a world of broken promises and political intrigue, until the very end, non-compromising Che Guevara would quite literally stick to his guns, presenting himself as the champion of the people. Even though most of these revolutions met with failure, the specter of Che Guevara will live on. Che stuck to his ideals and was determined to the very end. The ideology he presented can be debated but one cannot just ignore this personality .

This is a short biography on the well known Latin American revolutionary Ernesto 'Che' Guevara by Hourly History. Most of us would have heard of Guevara, if not for his revolution, definitely because of the merchandises around; such as t-shirts, bags,etc. with his face. At least, that was how I got to know about him first.
So, this book starts with how Che Guevara's life as a student of medicine in Buenos Aires and then, the break he took to tour the poorest areas of Latin America which made him very convinced about Communist and left wing ideologies. It then elaborated on how his journey led him to support a revolution in Guatemala against the incumbent dictator Arbenz and the eventual victory of the revolutionaries. The book then talks about the meeting between Raul Castro (Fidel's brother and current head of state of Cuba) and Guevara which led to the meeting with Fidel and beginning of the revolution against the Batista government in Cuba and suppression of the American aided Bay of Pigs Invasion the success of which led to the consolidation of power by Castro and Guevara. The book then talks about his skills as a diplomat in Cuba - striking alliances with Soviet Union, later on with China and also touches upon his travels around Africa and Asia. Eventually, the book focuses on his fallout with Fidel Castro, leading to his exile in Bolivia and eventual downfall.
The book covered nearly every aspect of Guevara, the origins of how he became a revolutionary, his personal life, his skills as a diplomat and final days as a guerilla warrior in Bolivia. The book was also concise and delivered on the promise of giving his biography in an hour.
However, with that said, this has the usual fallout of an Hourly History biography; wherein they try to completely glorify the person involved that the negative aspects of the person whom they have chosen are never brought out. In fact, the book hardly talks about his gruesome killings (despite being a doctor himself), suppression of dissent in Cuba (despite claiming to be a liberal himself), his opposition to foreign presence in Cuba, despite his pursuit of Chinese and Soviet investment in Cuba and ironically, Guevara not being native to Cuba himself, his endorsement of dictators despite his opposition to imperialist suppression. None of these contradictions in Guevara were brought out. However, the book did bring out saying that while people would debate Guevara's legacy; nobody can deny his passion to fight for his convictions; nonetheless, passion is not an excuse for all the things that Guevara did.
However, this book is still a good read for those who wish to know why he has become such a cult figure all over the world as this does tell largely about all the positive aspects of the revolutionary. On the whole, I would award the book a three on ten.

Ernesto Che Guevara was born, into a middle-class family, on June 24, 1928, in Rosario, Argentina. In 1953 he graduated from college, after studying medicine, and went on a year-long sabbatical throughout South America. Natural inclinations and instincts aligned him with the poor, unfortunate, and underdogs of society. He soon formed a dislike for authority and the spirit of revolution grew within his breast. Making Guatemala his home in 1954, he joined in the rebellion against Jacobo Arbenz, the second democratically elected president of Guatemala. President Arbenz was an advocate of land reform and worked the change the “latifundia” system which put a majority of the land in the hands of the rich and multi-national countries abroad. The United Fruit Company wielded much power in the region under the protection and sanctions of the United States government. Although this will just be a small chapter in Che Guevara’s short life, it will have a dramatic effect on him and change his life as it impacts history.
Although Che Guevara dies on October 9, 1967, at the age of thirty-nine, he is remembered long after his death as the face of revolution. The influence his life has had on the world after his death far outweighs anything he achieved during his life. He hated injustice and the power held by the rich over the poor. He fought for the liberties of no specific peoples or nation; but for all bias, wherever it is to be found. Che has often been associated with Fidel Castro and his fight against the forces of President Fulgencio Batista, Cuba’s duly elected president. I feel sure he would not have hesitated to fight his old friend to save them from the yoke of repression they’ve worn for the last fifty years.
When revolution is in the air, a portrait of the bearded fighter with a beret is sure to be displayed prominently. Che Guevara is the epitome of revolution.

The life of Che Guevara has never interested me; however, in the spirit of looking beyond my circle of comfort, I gave this title a whirl. Actually, this is the second book about this revolutionary that I've read recently. This book answered my question after reading the last one: Why were Fidel Castro and his brother chewing out Guevara after the revolution in Cuba? From Hourly History, I learned that Guevara started leaning towards the Chinese version of Communism, instead of the Soviet's form. The Castros were in bed with the Soviets and didn't want to rock the boat.
Essentially, after reading this book, I'm left with the question, What was it all for? Che died at 39 without anything to show for his life and death. Although the book told the readers that Che was deeply empathetic with the poor and abused, he could have done so much more good by using his doctoring skills than using his machine gun. I walked away thinking Che Guevara had wasted his life.

Che guevara
He was a staunch revolutionary and no saint! He was supposed to stop blood as a doctor but he bled a lot of it from others!
Che is no ordinarily figure and hence any stereotypes or reductionistic discourse about him doesn't make any Justice. He is many things to many people... Lets leave it there!
As far as the book is concerned it focusses more on che guevara and his life but briefly also touches upon his discontent and fallout with the castros, comrades and so called communists like soviets! He did what is possible from his side without compromising his so called ideals if you will.... He was also looks like a romantic revolutionary not just wooing women but also penning poetry and firing guns!

I did not know anything about Che Guevara, much less his real name. As I was reading the book, a lot of it was as though all his failures were enlisted, untill I reached the last line of the book:
"In a world of broken promises and political intrigue, until the very end, non-compromising Che Guevara would quite literally stick to his guns, presenting himself as the champion of the people. Even though most of these revolutions met with failure, the specter of Che Guevara will live on."
It was his thought and spirit that inspired. The book sums it up pretty well.

Who's the author???
I ask this of every Hourly History book I've read because no one will put their name on the books.
It's very evident that most of the authors are far left extremists because in many of the books they bend the truth sometimes to the breaking point.
In the case of this book, in the conclusion the author describes Guevara with "purity of ideology"......this praise for a man who incited many others to follow him in his murderous exploits in several sovereign nations.
I ask this of every Hourly History book I've read because no one will put their name on the books.

Insightful overview
A brief and short read into the life of Che Guevara. It definitely is worth reading and understanding his idealism and how his own associates in the end failed to stand by him.

Not a realistic picture..
Not very comprehensive and I feel it didn't show him for the horrible person he really was and its a dangerous road to go down. He was no different than men like Hitler and Stalin, he just met his end much sooner. Painting him as an uncompromising man of the people is disingenuous. Not long enough to get a true picture of this evil man.

A very sketchy book on the lifetime of the Great Revolutionary. While it does give some details of his early life and his Revolutionary achievements, it misses most of the details.
It deserved some more detailing on the revolution he led in Cuba. Also it has not mentioned anything (except in the end), his differences with Fidel Castro and why he had to leave the country.

The book brings forth the life and style of this iconic leftist. Che's uncompromising character gets built over the years as he remains so right through his life. His relationship with Fidel Castro also provides an interesting insight into his character.

Knowing little about this man prior to reading this account I am amazed by the telling of this man’ s life. So often, we read accounts of people who seemingly sought the welfare of the downtrodden and then died and ignoble dead.

I think there is more to learn about che but this book gives an breif and impactful insight about his life. If anyone who know che guevara by his looks not much about his revolutionary work and want to know more this is the book where a start should be

Brief writing explaining the main events in the life of the Cuban Revolutionary. I was intrigued in reading this book as I heard the life of Che Guevara is compared to the life of a carpenter from Nazareth(in the words of Napoleon Bonaparte)!

A quick look at Che’s life as a rebel.

I really like the idea of short overview accounts of historic figures but I kind of found either the lack of depth or my lack of interest to take away from the book as a whole. Will try another person I am more curious about.

an intriguing personality
An educated person should be able to start a revolution with words of peace and strategic action, not by violent process that would surely lead to question Che’s motives. Interesting and informative book, a must read

Inspirational book
Story of a warrior who sacrificed his life for the principles that he believed. Eben though he is a doctor who can live happily he chose the path of being a warrior.

The book was really interesting and informative. However, the inconsistencies in past/present tense drove me bonkers. Hence the low rating.

A short but informative account of Che’s life, for a beginner. This book answers most of the whens-wheres-whats about him. Will have read much more to know whys and hows.
