Great introduction to rocks and minerals, got to page 63, and now moving onto the Smithsonian guide which is a little more in-depth.

This guide includes great pictures of some of the more common rocks and minerals. I prefer rock and mineral guides that include cut/polished and uncut/unpolished photos of the rock or material, as it gives some perspective to how much processing is involved and what to look for in its raw state. This book is vague as to the location where these rocks and minerals can be found, which makes it a little lower quality as a guide.

Used to collect rocks as a kid. This book was an obsession of mine.

Lots of great pictures and descriptions of different kids of rocks and minerals as well as an introduction talking about how rocks are formed. Fascinating and makes me want to know more.
