This is the second book I have read of Virtue's, and it is even better than the first. It offers a wealth of helpful information. I am excited to try the meditations she discusses. I will definitely be reading more of her work.
A PSYCHOLOGIST EXPLAINS HOW TO RECEIVE ‘ANGELIC’ TEACHINGS
Author Doreen Virtue wrote in the ‘Author’s Note’ of this 2000 books, “This is a nondenominational spiritual self-help book. It is intended for people of all faiths, religions, and belief systems, as well a nonbelievers… this book is about spiritual principles that can help us in everyday circumstances.”
She explains in the Preface, “In the spring of 1999 I appeared on a radio program to discuss how the angels desire to help us in every facet of our lives… When I say this, I‘m not trying to convince people about the existence of angels or to convert others to a certain philosophy. I am simply a trained therapist with a scientific background who has had some remarkable experiences with angels and both personally and professionally … Perhaps you are wondering how a doctor of psychology, a pragmatic healer, with traditional training and clinical background came to work with angels and heavenly prescriptions.. I am one of those people whose only concern when they hear about something new is, Does it work? I seek help from the angels simply because the Divine prescriptions thy have given my clients produced effective and practical results far exceeding those of any method of psychology I have ever tried and studied.” (Pg. 13-14)
She recounts, “My training in psychology… largely influenced my view of the world… My first position in the field was as an intake counselor in the psychological and admissions department… To me any patient who experienced things thro8ugh nonphysical senses was hallucinating or intoxicated. Period. Throughout my life, however, I’d experienced some intensely mystical situations that my science and psychology books couldn’t explain. Rather than focus on these experiences, I had consciously willed myself to overlook them.” (Pg. 16)
She continues, “Into adulthood, I was always aware of the presence of angels and many of my deceased relatives… But I tried to avoid thinking about the spirit world… The last thing I wanted was to suffer the slings and arrows of my peers, if I admitted my mystical experiences publicly. Besides, I didn’t like the messages that my angels insistently gave to me. Their incessant nagging told me that I should … quit drinking my nightly glasses of wine; start meditating and studying spirituality… I realize now that I had, on a soul level, ‘contracted’ with my angels to have them push me to keep me on the path of my life’s mission.” (Pg. 18)
She goes on, “At first the angels gave me guidance only about my own life. But it proved so effective for steering me successfully through the worst of my difficulties that as a therapist, I couldn’t help thinking how wonderful it would be if all my clients could use their sixth sense, took and have their own source of contact for these heavenly prescriptions.” (Pg. 21-22)
She reports, “During a typical angel therapy session, I allow myself to go into a semitrance state, which helps me to connect deeply and quickly with the angels and their Divine prescriptions. In this altered state of consciousness, I am aware of most of the words that come to me at the time. After a session, however, I remember only about half of what is said. For that reason, I frequently tape-record a session … so my client can play it back later.” (Pg. 23)
She adds, “You don’t have to wait to see an angel reader or locate someone with special talents and abilities to receive and benefit from heavenly advice. These message are meant for you, and God designed them to be easy to receive. Tens of thousands of my clients and workshop participants have already learned how to tap into God’s heavenly messenger service, and you can, too.” (Pg. 27)
She summarizes in the Afterword, “God and the angels are happy to be involved in our lives and deliver all the Divine prescriptions we need. Yet, they are not here to take responsibility for us, weaken us, or take away our free will. Ultimately, we learn and grow from making our own choices. The heavenly realm merely stands by in the role of adviser, ready to give us advice if we solicit it. Still, it is wiser to follow their healing counsel rather than our egos, compulsions, or lower natures.” (Pg. 257)
She concludes “The angels’ prayer, along with mine, is that we will all discover the beautiful world that parallels our own. Right alongside the strife, chaos, and problems, we swim in an aquarium of angels who want to help us. The healed world is already manifest and waiting to be revealed, if only we ask for its unveiling.” (Pg. 259)
This book may interest those who appreciate such ‘angelic’ teachings.
Interesting. A mixture of psychology and spirituality. Most of the psychological tips are common sense, and when it comes to the spiritual/ new age part I guess trying it out is the only way to find out whether it helps or not.
Great information regarding tapping into Divine communication. Ever wonder how things are manifested or why you hear that little voice? I came across this book out of "coincidence".....but as many know, there really aren't any coincidences in the Universe...are there? ;-) This book has been a great blessing to me and has provided me new tools to communicate with the Divine. Thank you Doreen!
So so. I only read the first part of the book and the last two chapters. I wasn't really interested in all the stuff in the middle. It was good enough to make me want to read her other books, but not so good that I feel satisfied or inspired like I was hoping. Certainly something to learn from reading it however, and I'm glad I spent a little time going through it.
