Remembrance

Rate this book
She’s the cure that could save him. If only she could remember how.

Two years ago, 20 year-old Samantha Knight experienced a life-altering trauma. Unfortunately, she can’t remember what it was. Previously outgoing, fun, and carefree—it’s as if someone flipped a switch on Sam’s insides. Now, she’s afraid of everything, socially awkward, and convinced she’s going crazy. As Beyoncé would say, she woke up like this. Sam tries her best to juggle college classes, work, and the nosiest roommate ever, but behind the curtain, Sam’s life is all about keeping a firm grip on her own mind. And life is kicking her ass.

Alex Channing has only one enemy in this world: werewolves. Born and raised to fight in the supernatural military, he has become an expert at hunting and killing rabid werewolves. But when Alex is bitten and infected, he finds himself racing against a ticking clock for his own survival.

Alex’s search for a cure leads him finally to an oracle in a seaside town in California. And she gives him the reading of a lifetime. The key to his cure is a girl who forgets things, cries spontaneously, and might just be insane. And the only way she can save him is to do the one thing Alex knows is impossible: she has to remember.

I was kind of disappointed by this one, it started off with a lot of promise but then it kind of derailed and went off the tracks. The idea was incredibly interesting, the whole Hunter aspect gave me Supernatural vibes which I really enjoyed. But the execution was just lacking, it felt like everything went back and forth way too much, like the author couldn’t decide on what she wanted to happen. There were also quite a few typos and that always drives me absolutely crazy.

**a copy was provided for review purposes**

First off, the cover is absolutely beautiful, which is one of the reasons that drew me into reading it :3

Remembrance by Heather Hildenbrand is the first novel in the Heart Lines series, which is a spinoff series for Dirty Blood. This book can be read as a standalone as I have not read her Dirty Blood series, I’m not entirely sure what happened in the Dirty Blood Series but still I was able to follow along and really enjoy this book. I love Paranormal Romance, so I just had to read this when the opportunity came.

I felt like the prologue + the first few chapters wasn’t as capturing as I’d expected, I was kinda confused and disinterested but I kept reading. I think that it’s mainly due to the fact that I haven’t read the Dirty Blood series that I was confused, but sure enough as I kept reading things started to fall into place and it wasn’t all that bad to follow along.I was It’s a quick and easy read that keeps the reader interested, I really loved the story. I can’t to read the next one in this series~ I’m also going to pick up the Dirty Blood series, because after reading this, I know I’m gonna LOVE it :3

Remembrance is one of the best stories that Heather Hildenbrand has written.
She uses characters from her Dirty Blood series, which I've started but haven't finished.
But you don't need to read the Dirty Blood series to enjoy this story.
It's a new storyline, and I really liked it.

20 year old Samantha (Sam) Knight is afraid of just about everything, and she doesn't know why.
2 years ago, she was fun, outgoing and fearless.
But today, she's only a shell of who she used to be.
She moved across the country to a seaside town in California, where she juggles college classes and works for a medium.
She doesn't believe in the supernatural, but the people in her town do.

And then, she meets Alex.
She's sure she's met him before, but he denies it.
Sam desperately wants to know what happened to her, why she's so afraid of everything and everyone, and Alex may be able to provide these answers.

OMG How beautiful this is

This storyline starting with Dirty Blood was the first werewolf book I ever read. Heather continues the story with this beautifully written book without making someone who didn't read the series miss anything.  I loved the characters and was so excited to get to read about them again. It's fun, exciting, danger filled, heart wrenching and I can't get enough. I am so glad the story is going to continue. I love Heathers writing style and her books and her in general.. This is a definite must read.
5 plus stars Heather, you rocked it.

Remembrance by Heather Hildenbrand is a unique and entertaining start to the Heart Lines series. Two years before the story began; Samantha Knight underwent a trauma that caused her to lose her memory. She is no longer the outgoing individual she used to be. Instead, she is paranoid and scared. Supernatural hunter, Alex Channing, is slowly dying after being bitten by a werewolf. His sole hope is for a cure that only Samantha could give him, if she could remember. This contemporary PNR takes place in California. It is suitable for New Adults.

Heather Hildenbrand did a wonderful job writing this book. The character development was skillfully crafted. I could sense Sam’s frustration at not remembering what happened to her. You felt her confusion. She discovers significant things about herself and what transpired to her throughout the story. Alex has a secret and is harboring a lot of guilt. He is a worthy hero who is brave, determined, and protective. I enjoyed both main characters; they are multi-dimensional and complex.

REMEMBRANCE was mysterious and full of twists. The plot was well-executed. REMEMBRANCE moves quickly and is thought-provoking. There are occurrences in the story that are eye-opening. The ending left me anxiously awaiting the next book from the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Heather Hildenbrand has hit a home run again! Having adored her Dirty Blood series (I bought the ebooks, paperbacks and audible editions of each!!!), I couldn't wait to dive into this one!! Her Dirty Blood series is geared towards the YA market, but this is shaping up to be NA.

Anyway, this one is just as addicting as the authors previous books. It's so nice to revisit Alex (and see some Tara and Wes) and I'm beyond thrilled he got his own spin off series. You can read this as a stand alone series but personally I think you will get a better sense of the characters if you start with the DB series.

Well written and developed, with superb characters and plenty of action, this book is a must read. This author knows how to write amazing books and I can't recommend her books enough. This ends on a cliffhanger but we don't have long to wait till the next edition comes out so it's not too bad.

Go buy it now, you won't be disappointed!!! Even though I got an early copy of this to review, I have the paperback on order and can only hope it comes to audio too ;)

It is the first book by this author I have ever read, and the first one in this genre I have read in many years. I couldn't have chosen better to get introduced to Urban fantasy. It is very well written, fast paced and the characters are well developed. There is an atmosphere of unknown danger, which gripped me from the beginning. It kept me on the edge of my seat until all the pieces fell together.
A great beginning of the series. I'm looking forward to the next books in the series.
Highly recommended.

Recently in my reading I’ve been avoiding PNR.  I was just so over it, ya know?  But then this book popped up on my radar, Remembrance. I’ve read Heather Hildenbrand before, so I thought, “Why not?”  I’ve read this author a few times before, and I’ve always fallen in love with her books.  Turns out that was a great decision.  Remembrance has everything I love about PNR, and books in general.

This book is a spin-off from the Dirty Blood series, which I haven’t read.  Yes, I was a bit nervous about that, but it proved to be a non-issue completely.  I never felt like I was lost or missing something, and that’s a huge plus for me.  So if you are a little worried about picking up a spin-off, don’t be in this case!

Alex and Sam.  Sigh.  I love these two.  Sam is our heroine, and life has been a bit of a struggle for her lately.  She’s just not herself, and she can’t explain or figure out why.  She’s got a recent fear of men and dogs, and every shadow makes her jump.  My heart goes out to this girl, because it’s obviously causing her some trauma.  Her whole life has changed because of these issues, and without a recognizable reason. So she’s moved across the country to kind of find herself, get away, and also get some answers.  That leads her to a very supernatural community, which is all kinds of awesome.  I’m especially digging her boss, Mirabelle, at the mystical shop, Oracle.

Alex…. Ok.  Sometimes he’s a complete jerk, or at least that’s how it seems.  Sometimes he is so thoughtful and caring. And you never know which Alex you are going to get.  But there’s a lot of good reasons for that. Reasons I’m not going to tell you of course!  But he’s an awesome guy, and he’s a werewolf hunter.  But now he’s fallen ill, and it’s likely to kill him, so he finds himself in the same supernatural community as Sam.  Hello, fate.

I love how fate and chance weave themselves into this story. You think everything is your own free will, but some things just can’t be changed.  And the mystery of it all is just stellar. Hildenbrand has created this awesome world full of vivid characters.  She delivers on romance, and the supernatural, along with danger and excitement.  Her writing style really grabbed me right away, just as it has with her other books. Every time I turned on my kindle I was instantly transported into Sam’s world.  I lead a hectic life, and books are my self-indulgence, so when an author comes along who can really take ahold of my imagination for a bit, I can’t say enough good things.

I think fans of Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance will both love this book.  It’s not so over the top on either genre that it gets lost in one aspect or another.  Everything is really well balanced.  The secrets aren’t all given away in the first few chapters, so you get to learn new things along with the characters, which is a big bonus to me.  And even better, I like the characters.  (ok, there’s one I won’t, but I’m not going to talk about him!!!) I’m pretty interested to see where this series leads, and I definitely thing I need to go back and catch up on Dirty Blood, too!

I listened to the audible version of the book. I received a code from the author.
I felt like I had no clue what was going on for a good portion of the book. I suppose this way of writing was the author’s way of putting the reader/listener into Samantha Knight’s world where confusion reigns since she has forgotten events from two years ago and events since that involve the supernatural.
Alex Channing comes into her life. He is a hunter.
At first I didn’t realize the author was switching between Alex and Sam’s viewpoints and stories. This added to the confusion. There might have been less confusion if I had been reading the book instead of listening to the audiobook.
Things got better once I realized there were two parallel storylines that intersect. I enjoyed the story.
I don’t however understand the need current authors have to interject the F word into conversations whether mental or voiced. It is jarring and doesn’t add anything for those of us who prefer expletive free or light reading/listening/viewing. It causes me to remove stars from ratings. This story had four star potential. Clean up your act and I can recommend your books.

Once Forgotten Twice Removed

This series must be read after the "Dirty Blood" series. This series must be read in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to read "Inheritance"!

Alex is dying... Again. And he has no idea how to stop it. He has been traipsing around the world trying anything that *might* work. He is down to his last two options. Otherwise he is one dead Hunter. All because a feral Werewolf bit him. When Tara accidentally bit him she cured him with a transfusion of her blood but it won't work a second time. Is magic real? Can it cure him?

Sam has amnesia... She guesses. One day she changed. She became frightened and she has no idea why. Everything is just fuzzy. What happened to her? Why can't she remember? Will she ever not be afraid again?

***This series is suitable for adult readers who enjoy modern fantasy romance with conflicted characters you just can't get enough of :)

I finished the dirty blood series a while back, and though I enjoyed it, by book 4 I'd fallen out of love. the reason. well...probably my love for Alex.

enter remembrance.

here we get his story. and one of Taras lost bffs, Sam. fortunately, I didn't remember Sam as her former cheerleading, loud, boy chasing self until I was neck deep in the story. here, she is afraid, prone to crying jags, and obviously surviving a traumatic experience. but she doesn't remember what happened to her.

there is a lot of STRANGE going on in this book. and I'm not sure exactly how I really feel about it. not much really gets resolved, or explained. there is a lot of vague, " you have to figure it out for yourself..." vibes going on in the story, but instead of trying to do that, Sam steadfastly puts on her ignorant pants and trots off to do some menial activity. Sam is frustratingly blind to happenings. sure she has a reason for SOME of that. but when she is forced to face the facts in front of her eyes, still she hides, while at other times, she simply accepts even more unbelievable things. this served to annoy me more often than not. still, I have to admit, I like her.

the book also felt short to me, which made me a little sad. still I did enjoy watching Alex get his story, and I will be reading the rest of the series. it is quite entertaining to watch how he unwittingly draws people to him, only to shove them away as soon as he can, he is so loved, but truly doesn't believe he deserves it. watching him start to grow in this book made it worth it to me. his respect and compassion for Sam blew me away.

RJ is also a real gem. adventuring will ensue in the coming books, I'm sure.

overall, I recommend this one.

does anyone know where this story falls in the overall timeline of the dirty blood series? it's been awhile for me, but I do remember Alex being a bit cagey at the end of the last dirty blood book, and since it's been two years since Sam's "trauma", I'm thinking it takes place after the last book in dirty blood??

DNF...

About 50% of the way I DNF. It was that boring. And let me tell you, It is rare for me to not finish a book. I'll even skim through a book before I'll not finish it. The conversation and dialogue was okay, but it felt too much like day to day conversation and not conversation that should move a story. The main character was a bore, the entire premise is set around the fact that she had to have her memory erased because she is such a weeny and couldn't handle a supernatural trauma. She then continued to be a weeny, and maybe she would have grown as a character but by that point I was also irritated with how slow the story was moving. There were a ton of unnecessary hints, that lead to more hints and more unnecessary points. I just didn't like it. It wasn't for me, so that's not to say that it may not be for someone else. Happy reading!

“This is your path,” she said softly. “You have the goddess inside you - a second spirit that werewolves and Hunters alike must yield to. You are the goddess incarnate. You have come to right the balance.” - Mirabelle

Two years ago, Samantha Knight experienced a life altering trauma. Unfortunately she can’t remember what it was. Gone is the outgoing carefree girl of yesteryear to be replaced by a jittery anxious and socially awkward woman who suffers panic attacks around men and dogs and is convinced she is being watched. While juggling classes, Sam works for Mirabelle, a medium at The Oracle. Despite the strange occurrences around her, Sam is in denial of the supernatural community in general.

Enter Alex Channing, a Hunter who is searching for a cure for the werewolf venom that is slowly killing him. His quest brings him to seek out Mirabelle in the hopes that she will have the answers. He’s surprised to run into Samantha Knight, even more so when he sees how much she’s changed in the two years since he last saw her. Because Alex knows exactly what happened to her that night and why she has no memory of the trauma she suffered. Worst of all, the answer to his cure is dependent on her remembering that night and who she really is...

Remembrance is the first instalment of the Heart Line series and was also my first introduction to the author. The series is apparently a spin off of the Dirty Blood series which I have not read. While other readers made assurances that this would not be an issue, I personally found it a disadvantage as I struggled to understand and empathise with some of the characters who had been so firmly established in the previous series.

Remembrance briefly introduces the characters and touches on the world building. I’m glad that the author chose to tell the story from both Sam and Alex’s point of view as it offered better insight. Alex is a hunter who has been bitten and infected by a werewolf and is desperately searching for a cure or he’ll die. He arrives in Half Moon Bay to seek out Mirabelle, an Oracle on the chance she’ll provide answers. He meets Sam and there’s a spark of recognition on her part but due to a trauma she’s forgotten as a result of a memory wipe, she doesn’t know who he is.

At the same time we learn that something is attracting rabid werewolves to Half Moon Bay and Sam may be reason why. It appears that centuries ago, werewolves and Hunters were created through magic in order to maintain a balance between the two. When the god and goddess died, the magic was left in the hands of humans for safekeeping. Ultimately the magic is passed through the bloodline of the original humans gifted from the goddess. The bloodline keeps the magic alive on this plane. Sam’s family can be traced back to the goddess line meaning she is the answer to curing Alex.

Having listened to the audible version of this book, I did struggle to understand where the author was going with her story at first. This made Sam’s fear and confusion about what was happening around her relatable. It will be interesting to see what the author has in store for her now that her memory has returned. Kelly Pruner, the narrator made it easy to differentiate between the different characters.

Really really enjoyed this story.
Was exactly what I was looking for, a little cliched and fast paced with a romance that was for me exactly what I wanted. The main character was strong and didn't take shit and was thoughtful and didn't jump to conclussions and hate someone for doing something that they felt was right or didn't know/were too afraid to tell her, I was afraid when she found out she'd push everyone away and be stupid and only think about herself and not what they are/were going through or why they did what they did but instead she went with the punches and didn't hate them because it was easy which I should've known because that wasn't her character at all. I mean yeah she got angry (understandably) but she didn't then push people away because she was angry at them and hurt, but she also wasn't a push over either. She was like the perfect balance and rationale and it just made her seem more real because I feel like that's how I'd react too, and obvs I don't know if I'd react as well as she did but I feel like as a rationale person I would hahaha. Anyways I liked both the Main characters and how we got both povs. Was interesting and informative reading from Alex's perspective, I really like alex too he was sweet and protective but not overly so and I feel so bad for him and hope he makes it out of this all ok and they both live happily ever after haha. I loved her boss she was super quirky and fun, she was also relative to the story and added to it. I also really ended up liking Alex's roomate and am pumped for more of him and more of Tara and Wes hopefully cause I'm interested to see what part everyone is going to play and how Tara and Sam make up and become close again and would also love to see Angela even just once cause she was integral to her past and it'd be fun! Sams roomate was also great and turnt out to be cooler then I thought especially with the Mason situation, I relaly liked how she came through and was more then just a roomate but an actualy friend and I hope she's involved in book 2. I wanna meet her aunt kiwi too!! She seems as cool and quirky as her boss! Would be a fun dynamic.
The plot and story line were also really interesting and I'm intrigued to figure out some of the stuff happening anf how she's gonna help Alex and these rabid wolfs and what's up with the tufts of fur?!!! And what else she can do and for Alex to get his ass kicked by Sam, in really looking forward to that reunion. I can't wait for her to knock some sense into him! Interested to see if Mason comes back into the story and how he is handled. I just want more of Alex and Sam and their dialogue and relationship please and thank you!.
I do kind of wished we wWweren'ttold at the start what happened with her memory and whose fault it was etc and what happened but then wr wouldn't have got Alexs point of view and I'm glad we did!.
Was a fun and fast paced story with everything you'd need in a paranormal romance novel!

This is the first book I have read by this author which I won in a competition and listened to through audible. Sometimes you will read a book that just sticks with you and elicits such emotion from you that catches you by surprise and this is one of those books. Not only is this one of the best books I have read this year but its one of the best books I have ever read!!!!

The storyline to this book is so unbelievably imaginative and there is no way at the beginning of the book you could predict in any way what could happen. I loved how it feels like you are just about to find out what the secrets are and then there is another twist that hooks you even more!!! This book is obviously written with so much care and love and that comes through in every page and I think that's one reason this book made me so emotional. I found myself finding excuses to be able to listen to this story - going to bed early, listening while I am cooking, just because I couldn't get enough of this story and found myself completely addicted to it!!!

It really is amazing how this author writes her characters in this book. They are written with such depth and understanding of people's personalities, of their motivations, of their fears and of their hopes and dreams that it blew me away and gave me a connection to each character! Samantha wormed her way into my heart pretty quickly, I think maybe because I can relate to her with any own anxiety and panic attacks especially around men. She suffers so much throughout this book and her strength amazes me, living with her fear and still being able to function every day and still want answers. I love her fiery personality that comes out at times she feels a little more comfortable and I don't think anyone sees how strong she really is apart from Alex. From the beginning Alex is a mystery, keeping many secrets to himself. He is used to relying on himself and struggles to ask for help and accept offered help, this I related to a lot. Alex has been through so much in his life and the more you find out about him the more you understand his motivations and why he does the things he did. I also adored reading Mirabelle and RJ’s characters and would really love to read more about both of them!!!

It is hard to put into words exactly what reading this book is like, its not just a book, its an experience, a journey that you go through. I am so glad that this book is the first in a series and I am now dying to read all of her books after reading this one! People really need to read her books and they will find a new favourite author and new favourite book!!!

I have read all of the books in the Dirty Blood Series by Heather Hildenbrand. I was happy to read more from Alex and Sam! If you haven't read the Dirty Blood Series, no worries as this can be read alone. The author does a great job at explaining the past and bringing in the characters from the Dirty Blood Series.

Alex... I think I fell even more in love with Alex in this book, but he also made me furious at him! What is not to love about Alex?! Honestly it is everything when it comes to him even including his hot and cold vibes. Normally I wouldn't be able to stand the mood changes so frequently, but you get to read from Alex's POV and learn he is having an inner battle with himself. At the time, Sam has a hard time with this, but I will get to her soon. **Spoiler** Furious at Alex you say? Well I was too with the way he just up and left Sam! Yes I am pissed at him! That was a low blow! He is blaming himself when even Sam isn't blaming him. He leaves thinking this is the best for Sam. Little does he know, but I have a feeling it is the worst for Sam as Alex seemed to help bring out her powers more. I hope to find out answers to the connection between the two.

Sam... Sam is the complete opposite from the character in the Dirty Blood Series. The life altering experience is something you wouldn't have even guess, but I will leave that for you to find out. Sorry I don't like giving away too many spoilers! Anyways back to Sam... She deals with everything alright. She sort of blocks herself from seeing the truth, but then Alex helps her believe in what she has seen/ is seeing. Once Sam learns what was blocking her memories, she takes everything very well. I cannot believe she just forgave people so willingly when she seemed to be so mad prior. I guess that surprised me. I am wondering if we will see a little more of the old Sam in the next book to this series.

Overall, I loved this book! It is the perfect spin off to the Dirty Blood Series! I cannot wait to read more about Alex and Sam! I just hope Alex realizes what he ran from before Sam forgets all about him or worse ends up dead.

Happy Weekend Sunnies!
I just finished this beauty and I am about to finish another book. All in three late night's work! hehe I am on a roll :-)

I was given a copy of this book by the lovely author for review purposes and I am very happy to say that I really liked it.
I found that Remembrance follows a very particular style. Do you like the Evermore series by Alyon Noel? Or Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick? Or even the Fallen series by Lauren Kate? To me, all those series even though they have very different plots have similar styles. They are full of fantasy, teen/collage romance, are a tad cheesy, are long (4 books or more) but are easy fast reads too, and well...are not for everyone. Those series tend to either be loved or hated by readers. I happen to love them, so obviously I liked this one too.

It follows the story of Sam, a 20 years old girl who after experiencing a life altering trauma that she cannot remember changed her drastically. Once care free and outgoing now she is always afraid and is socially awkward.
It is also the story of Alex. He is a werewolf hunter, a good one. But sadly he was bitten and is now in search of a cure for the poison in his blood that is slowly going to claim his life. His search for a cure takes him to Sam, a reading by an oracle reveals she can heal him. However, for that to happen Sam must remember.

Sam was confusing, when she is forced to face the facts in front of her sometimes she simply ignores them and shuts down, other times she accepts them easily. But that has a lot to do with what happened to her and the fact that she doesn't remember and still forgets traumatic events. In the end the way she reacted was very mature and all in all she was a likable character.
Alex was cagey and didn't really let anyone in, so we the readers don't know much about him either, but I liked him. His decision in the end was honorable.

This was an easy fast read and it has a satisfactory ending. It is not a stand alone but I honestly like the ending as it is...

Narrator does a good job. She fits the story and characters well; I even liked her guy voice! A good listening experience.

I really enjoyed the premise for this story and the magical aspects. The tarot card stuff was fun too. Something happened to Samatha a couple years ago that has made her afraid of men and dogs, but she has no memory of what. She knows something is off, but something keeps her from thinking beyond what is expected. When feral werewolves start showing up and weird puffs of fur show up in her hands, Samantha can’t keep denying what is right in front of her face. We also get POV chapters from Alex, who was bitten by a rabid werewolf, so he’s slowly dying. He’s on a search for a cure, when he ends up meeting Samantha. She may be just the one to save him, but things are a bit complicated. He knows a lot more about what’s going on then Samantha, so he’s got a lot of secrets that he’s not sure how to tell Samantha. There’s a dash of romance going on too. I liked the chemistry between them, and I loved getting dual POV’s. Some good action and danger too, so that’s always fun.

I didn’t realize that there was a previous series that kind of connects to this one; some of the main characters from one of the author’s other series are side characters in this book, so I’m not sure how much Samantha was involved in the previous series. I’m kind of glad I didn’t read about her before she lost her memory because she sounded kind of annoying and not the type I like to read about, but I mostly liked her in this book. She’s a scaredy-cat a lot, but she does have some strong moments. I didn’t like that she whines about her lost memory all the time; when she’s offered solutions, she doesn’t accept the help. That can get annoying, but she does grow a bit as the story goes on though.

Overall, I found the story entertaining and fun. The audio was great. I’m really interested to see where the story is going to go; this one has a cliffhanger for some parts of the story, so there’s still lots of story to be told.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book.

At first I wasn't sure about where the author was taking this story. I really thought Sam was going to turn out to be something different. The author does a great job of keeping us guessing and wondering about what is going to come next. As the first book in the series, we are discovering this world and a good portion of the book is Sam trying to figure out the past. I feel like this first book has set the pace for a great rest of the series to come and I can't wait to see where this series goes. First book from this author I have ever encountered and I definitely like and am intrigued by her style and ability to bring us a unique story.

This narrator is also new to me and I am very pleased with the performance she gave. There was a little bit where I could hear her intake breaths here and there but nothing I am unwilling to look past. I thought she gave a great performance and was an excellent pick for this new adult listen. I am excited for more by this narrator.

In a supernatural world, Sam has lost her memories of a night 2 years ago, and since then she has bouts of times she doesn’t remember what happens. Afraid of almost everything, she tries to keep a low profile and works at a store called Oracle, selling metaphysical herbs and goods. The store is owned by a true oracle, but Sam doesn’t believe in any of it. She has no idea that she’s been stalked, until she runs into Alex. Alex is a Hunter, who takes out feral werewolves and is actually sick from a werewolf bite. With venom running through his veins, he’s losing strength and time, without a cure to be found.

When Sam finally learns of the dangerous world she lives in, it will finally come down to her remembering what happened that night two years ago, but will it cure Alex or will it piece her back together again? I’m not telling, but this is a well written story with a couple good twists I didn’t see coming. This is a six book series, and all of them are released. Plenty of action, some suspense and some sweet moments. Well worth the time.

This was an enjoyable book that was definitely worth reading. I didn't realize it was a side story from the authors Dirty Blood series. I felt it didn't hurt the enjoyment factor if you didn't read that series first. Though there were a few places that might have made a little more sense if I had read that whole series (I only read the first book of that series a long time ago, so barely remember it). Over all the flow was steady. I never got to the point of being on the edge of my seat or not being able to put it down though. Samantha (Sam) & Alex are an odd set of characters. They tended to evoke a spectrum of feelings about them, pity, anger, humor, frustration...etc. I tend to not like characters that think they know what's best for everyone else when they really don't (Alex). After that ending, I'm not sure I really liked the characters strongly enough to want to continue with this series.

It took me a little bit to get into this story but once I did the story moved rather quickly, especially closer to the end.

There’s a lot of mystery surrounding Sam and her missing memories. She also has a strange aversion to men and dogs.
As the story unfolds and secrets are revealed it’s discovered that Alex and Sam have a connection and that he’s secretly loved her for a while.
Alex might even hold the key to figuring out what happened to Sams memories and coincidentally she might be the only one who can save Alex but will his guilt keep that from happening? Will it keep them apart?

At first I wasn’t a huge fan of Sam but as her character developed and changed I found myself growing fonder of her.
I liked Alex. He’s a great character.
The two complement each other. They both represent the shining light in the darkness for one another.
I enjoyed going on this journey with them and look forward to finding out what the next book has in store for the two.(3.5⭐️)

Memories are a funny thing but it looses its humor when your memories are taken from you. Especially if the loss of those memories has a life altering impact. Ask Sam. She knows all about it. As life dances around her and things happen she is fighting with the fog and the change in her for the last couple of years. When Alex comes to town seeking a cure for what ails him and meets Sam he knows it's only a matter of time before he has to tell his truth. The truth that changes friends to enemies and may destroy the love that is blooming.

A beautifully written emotional and intense story with characters that are touchable and that you can relate to. This author will provide you with everything you need to be immersed in the story and the characters. Each book leaves you hungry for more. I can't wait until the next book in the series.

I want to start my review with a note that I purchased this book at a book con because it had such a beautiful cover and I wanted to feature it on my bookstagram. I of course planned on reading it eventually after I had read a chunk of my TBR. That was way before the synopsis sucked me into clearing my TBR and reading this bad boy in one sitting. ONE sitting folks- thank the coffee gods because I would not have survived the morning after, especially with such a hangover- yep serious book hangover after this one! In the word’s of Beyonce- “I woke up like this” only it wasn’t “flawless” but it was oh so worth it!!

Please find the rest of my review as well as a recipe inspired by the book here-

Samantha has gaps in her memories for the past 2 years that she can't quite grasp & they cause her headaches. Alex is a werewolf hunter trying to find a cure to him having been bitten. He walks in to the store & is shocked to see her. She doesn't remember having previously met him (they met in the Dirty Blood series). He learns that there is only one person who can cure him, but she has to have her memories restored to her. She attracts werewolves who keep trying to attach & kill her. Alex is the one that is always there to save her. Samantha eventually finds out exactly who & what she is & that not everyone in her life has been on the up & up with her.

I think it's great that Samantha got her own story after what she faced in the Dirty Blood series. The characters are well-written, and the world building is creative. Story ends with HEA.
