The devotional writings of noted Swedish pastor, bishop, and author Bo Giertz offer what foreword writer John Pless calls "sturdy confessional Lutheranism with warm piety born of confidence in the Gospel."
To Live With Christ translates a collection of Giertz's classic devotions for those who want to explore their Christian faith and to connect God's Word in their daily lives. The devotional readings embrace the church-year calendar, just as Giertz did, preparing you for Sunday worship service.
Each Christ-centered devotion includes a Bible reading, meditation, and a prayer. The collection points readers to the cross of Christ, offering the assurance of God's grace, love, and forgiveness, helping them draw closer to their Lord. (From publisher site)
Bo Giertz is the Swedish Lutheran C.S.Lewis (started as an atheist and became an influential Christian leader -- read about his remarkable life on Wikipedia)
He wrote these devotions for people who, like himself, didn't have a background in Christianity. Yet the devotions are not tiringly simple and didactic. They bring you to Jesus. The prayers are so personal, too. I looked forward to my devotional time all year long for gospel and grace refreshment
An entire year of devotions, built around the Swedish Lutheran church calendar (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, etc.) yet not tied to the historic readings of the Sunday, I experienced some fresh connections between the devotions and the focus of the church year. During Lent you read the Passion History.
Profound in its intercession to Christ with deep confessional teaching and groans of heavenly longing for the suffering. The beauty and depth of the Christian's life are held up for examination while the reader becomes emboldened by hope . My most beloved devotional after the Treasury of Daily Prayer.
My wife and I have been reading this book together for our nightly devotions and we have very much liked it's content. It has a good old Lutheran, theology of the cross kind of substance to it.
Great devotional for new or "seasoned" conservative Christians! It takes you through the church year as well as the main teachings in the Old & New Testaments of the Bible. The reader can jump in at anytime and read it multiple times for refreshing on Biblical truths. I started this devotional last year in the middle of Pentecost ("Sundays after Trinity Sunday" as it is referred to in the book) and I could continue on even after reading all devotions. There is always new insight to gain as you grow in faith.
