Anna Durand is a bestselling, multi-award-winning author of contemporary and paranormal romance. Her books have earned bestseller status on every major retailer and wonderful reviews from readers around the world. But that’s the boring spiel. Here are some really cool things you want to know about Anna!

Born on Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Anna grew up moving here, there, and everywhere thanks to her dad’s job as an instructor pilot. She’s lived in Texas (twice), Mississippi, California (twice), Michigan (twice), and Alaska—and now Ohio.

As for her writing, Anna has always invented stories in her head, but she didn’t write them down until her teen years. Those first awful books went into the trash can a few years later, though she learned a lot from those stories. Eventually, she would pen her first romance novel, the paranormal romance Willpower, and she’s never looked back since.

THE MORTAL FALLS (Undercover Elementals, Book One) by Anna Durand is the first in her new fantasy romance series. This story is full of mythical supernatural characters in a parallel realm to ours, a steamy romance and murder.

Lindsey Porter finds a dead body in the woods. From there things get a little crazy for her. An almost naked man runs from the scene and disappears. When the sheriff shows up, the body is gone, but a blood pool remains. He hauls Lindsey in as a suspect and we learn she has a past with this sheriff who has followed her from Texas.

Nevan is an immortal sylph and the almost naked man who keeps popping from thin air into Lindsey’s life. He was turned into a Guardian when trapped into a bargain a century ago by his king, Skeiron. Linsey has to trust this magic wielding man to help her solve the murder she is charged with and both need to learn to trust each other with their pasts. The fate of the mortal and elemental realms depend on these lovers.

The dialogue between Lindsey and Nevan in the first part of the book is somewhat juvenile. I didn’t care that Lindsey was a 32 year old virgin, I felt she should have been more mature in her language and attitude, virgin or not. That said, the relationship between these two takes off when they have sex. The sex scenes are hot and steamy and what I expect in an Anna Durand book.

The beginning of the story has a lot of world-building and character backstory, which I feel bogged down the first part of the book. The interesting characters and their interactions kept me reading on. It was a good fantasy read and a steamy romance read.

I've only have a few hours left of the audiobook but I have big issues with the narrative. Her voice do not work for me sadly and I can't concentrate on the story it self. Might be a good book but I can't bring myself to listen to it anymore

First impressions of the book: What an absolutely eye-catching cover. You just know, along the pages, there lies a badass man who will partake in a good fight because what’s the point of welding a sword unless you’re going to use it. Mmm, there’s something sexy about a man who knows how to use his sword, the weapon and the one covered by his loincloth. FYI: He made use of both swords and those times left quite the impression. With out a doubt, Nevan proved he’d do anything for Lindsey and she in turn him.

Their relationship started off bumpy as in she stumbled upon a dead guy and witnessed Nevan running away from the crime scene. She didn’t fully trust him but she overcame that in four short days. He sort of grew on her with his sexy bod, sweet gestures, oh and saving her behind repeatedly. She did return the favor though with the help of a wee leprechaun. Oh Tris, he made me smile. His presence lightened up some tense moments, which there were plenty of: corpse, killer raven, psycho king and a battle between occupants of the Unseen realm and ours to list a few.

However, despite all the obstacles trying to keep them apart, Nevan and Lindsey did take time to consummate their relationship, which I thought would never come to pass. My only issue was the time leading up to the big moment. I get that Lindsey was a 32 year old virgin but she acted as if she had never seen a naked man before. At times, I found her behavior and attitude that of a much younger woman. I get she’s inexperienced but a woman of her age with ZERO sexual experience seemed a bit far-fetched. Maybe there are 30 year olds out there like her. I don’t know any but it’s plausible.

That aside, if you are wondering if you should purchase The Mortal Falls, then let me help you with your decision.

1.) Do you love stories with strong men and even stronger women?

2.) Do you love paranormal stories where the supernatural beings underestimate mere mortals?

3.) Do you love characters who are sarcastic, sexy, and prepared to throw down to protect the ones they love?

4.) Do you believe in magic and the power of love?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above then you must pick up this book.

A woman with a past that won't leave her alone meets a man with mysterious powers. A dead man disappears into thin air and the local sheriff seems determined to pin the murder on her with or without a body. Action from page one keeps you on the edge of your seat for this romantic adventure trip.

I enjoyed the story line, the teasing build up before the fantastic sex scenes and the characters! This story will definitely be on my list of read-agains! Hopefully, there are more episodes!!! As an independent reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock, I give this one four full hearts!

A fantasy world I can fall into.

I'm normally not the girl who would entertain the fantasy/romance book with a half naked, sword wielding Adonis on the cover. Save your 'don't judge a book by it's cover' chiding, I get it, I'm just being honest here. I'm glad I went against my first instinct this time. The romance is steamy, the action is thrilling, and the Unseen Realm is a supernatural world I wouldn't mind returning to.

The Mortal Falls is the first book in the series.I find that many books that are written with sequels in mind tend to spend too much time setting the stage and cementing character attributes in the beginning. Thankfully Durand knows how to avoid this annoying issue. From the first paragraph the reader feels and experiences the setting rather than having it painfully described. You meet and get to know the characters rather than having them spoon fed to you and told exactly how to feel about them.

I am a character focused reader so I have to focus there. In my opinion, Lindsey's juvenile thoughts and reactions are irritating but what can you expect from a 32 year old virgin? *insert eye roll emoji* Even that aspect I got past because at least her character stays consistent throughout the book. I appreciate the consistency, good or bad. She's funny at times, too, in an acidic, biting way that I admire.

Nevan is our Hero. He's a pretty boy, sweet, protective, blah blah blah... Too good to be true. Well, I think too good to be true pretty boys are boring, even supernatural ones. However, once I remind myself that Lindsey isn't me and I accept the story as it's written, I can totally get behind Nevan.

I loved Travis from the beginning. I think I was supposed to hate him but I have a thing for cops so maybe that's it. His flip floppy stance on Lindsey got tiresome and his hokey Texas sayings definitely knocked points off his hotness factor.

I could go through all of the characters but that would get boring. Just suffice it to say that this character focused reader was not disappointed.

The Mortal Falls is a romance / fantasy tale between troubled woman Lindsey and Nevan, an immortal sylph. Lindsey is a woman who just can’t get a break. Bad luck seems to follow her in every way. She falls into this magical world where she meets Nevan. Who she finds really alluring. Like that is a large part of the story, alluring.

This is the first book I have read by this author so I did expect a bit more fantasy and “The Notebook” type of romance. But she really has a distinctive writing style and a niche that is very unique.

I took a star away because while I feel it is written well and can appeal to many audiences, it is just not for me. I found both Lindsey and Nevan unlikable. I love women with a bit of a punch and self confidence. Nevan is no man I would want to be wrapped up in, despite how dreamy he is supposed to be. There is also a heavy amount of sex, like more than I thought necessary. Not for me but I can see how the story would appeal to others.

This is a great paranormal romance :) A good amount of magic/super power type fun and action plus romance that doesn't eat up the whole story! I really liked Durand's writing and plan on reading more from her in the future.

In The Mortal Falls, the first book of the Undercover Elements, Anna Durand fascinates us with Lindsey Port who is broken from a past relationship which involved her killing her fiancé. Nevan finds her intriguing, but this in almost impossible since his heart was cursed from feeling emotions. Lindsey is plagued by Calder's brother who followed her to keep an eye on her in the form of a police officer. Calder vowed she was his forever, death should have separated them.

I found The Mortal Falls bewitching, humorous, and at times sensual when Lindsey and Nevan are together. Anna Durand appeals to every woman who wishes to be cherished and protected by a strong sensitive man, who could whip anyone. I love how the immortals fight for Lindsey's love and the right to be with her. Very satisfying as a romantic fantasy.

Magical and exciting with every page

I loved this! I'm cant wait to delve into the second book so I can continue on more adventures with Nevan and Lindsey as they discover more about her role in Nevans world and how they both grow in their new positions. I loved the mixture of magic, romance, passion, adventure and mystery all rolled into one! The characters were well written and lovable with several good one liners that had me laughing throughout the book! The less likable characters were distinguishable were suitably villain like. I love how it touches on interactions with leprechauns and faes and intertwines with the mortal world. There were so many twists it kept me turning pages because I had to know what was going to happen next!!

„The Mortal Falls” was a great read for me. I liked the funny lines between the characters and I even liked how the tension was building until the great reveal. However, there are some items which were not to my liking. All arguments are detailed below.

So here we have Lindsey and Nevan’s story. An apparently quite normal mortal, who’s had an unhappy encounter with the supernatural and an immortal being. They meet while she trips on a dead body in the forest, a body that soon disappears. Being the sheriff’s number one suspect, Lindsay is adamant in finding out who did it and most importantly, why are they trying to frame her. In the meantime, her encounter with Nevan causes quite some trouble for him. His soul and actions are enslaved by Skeiron, because of a deal he had to make some time ago. As the blurb says, both their world will collide and they will have to rely on each other in order to solve their issues.

As I was mentioning, this was a really nice read for me. I spend some good time between the pages of this story. Both characters have personality and the way the author has adapted the language for Nevan (him being from another world) was very interesting as well. I even enjoyed the romance that gradually builds between them and how committed he was on not offending Lindsay in any way.

Now, there are some items that I did not like. I was not quite convinced about how Nevan got to work for Skeiron. It was not enough for me, can’t explain it more because of spoilers. Also, I did not like the magic system that much. I would have preferred a better introduction into Nevan’s world. Lindsay was just thrown into it and had to adapt on the way. And she did, quite easy I must say. I could also add that the action was a little dragged, but it kept me there so… I cannot list it as a bad thing.

All in all, even if there are some items that did not feel well to me, I kind of liked this book. It was not a difficult read, it made me relax for a while and remained me of why I like reading so much.Anna Durand is quite a lovely author and for sure I will try more books by her. So 3.5 stars (let’s round this to 4) and hope you’ll enjoy it at least as much!

As the desire between them burns bright , the past threatens to destroy them. Will they survive and discover who framed lindsey for murder or will they be dragged apart by mistrust and deceit? Follow the journey laid out by an amazing story teller as the story unfolds. Great characters and adventure. This is a must read for anyone who loves a good romantic story wrapped in murder and magic from the other realm.

I received a copy of this book as a give away and I am so happy I got it! The Mortal Falls is a great weekend read. The book is well written and the characters are well thought out. I did wish Lindsey was a little more mature at times and found her "30 year old virgin" excuse annoying at times but she pulls through it. This book gets pretty steamy and when it happens you say "its about time" LOL. I don't like reviews to tell me all about the book. I want to know is it worth the read? YES!!

That was one hell of a book. I love paranormal romance books, but man that was awesome with the an immortal sylph guardian and the Fae and the copper eating leprechaun. It was extremely well-written. And even though walked a fine line on old and new beliefs it was wonderful.

This story is about Lindsey and Nevan( the Guardian) he was tricked into a bargain by the Sylph king to forever bound to look for the Januset. The ledgens tell of how Janus was destroyed and sent to the four winds. Never to be found again. But there is one thing the king never counted on. And that Nevan would leave his duty for a mere mortal. And even though he has no clue why, He just knows he has to be near Lindsey. And protect her. But the king is mad, really not just angry mad but nuts. He literally tried to drop her house on her. But he is not her only problem the sheriff is after her too. And she does not know why. And her ex is still haunting her even though she’s sure he is dead. Man with all this going on it was so fun to read. I was glued to the pages of the book and read all night I could not put it down. I just had to know what happens next. I am so ready to read more and hope there will be a book two. As there is so much more I would love to read about maybe what Tris is up to.

Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it when you do; they value your opinions too

The Mortal Falls (Undercover Elementals Book 1) written by Anna Durand is a wonderfully written fantasy romance novel. I am a huge fan of Anna Durand and have loved every romance novel of hers that I have read. She has a gift for writing and brings the reader into her stories, The Mortal Falls is no exception! There is mystery and romance throughout this novel. The main female character, Lindsey, ran from her past, determined to keep it the past, but events leads Lindsey to face her past. Lindsey is a virgin, who I found a little on the naive side with some of the thoughts she has and comments she makes. The main male character, Nevan, is supernatural, sweet and protective. I found the love between Lindsey and Nevan steamy and entertaining. There is humor throughout the book, and I really enjoy Anna’s writing style. The characters, scenes, and general depiction of events are well detailed and thought out. I really enjoyed The Mortal Falls and look forward to the next book. I highly recommend this romance novel!

Mortal Falls. Anna Durand. Even the faerie are not fuzzy fluff bunnies in this unexpectedly humorous tale.

Lindsey may find herself in a somewhat dead end job, but it will bring her closer to her own truest self in a confounding adventure she might not survive.

Worlds collide and clash, and true love and friendship pave the way to, what else, a complicated future that requires compromise and teamwork.

If you enjoy fantasy that kicks butt, and still shows a bit of humor, with some pretty wild , but bizarre romance thrown in for good measure, open up this story, and enjoy the ride!

Fantasy/romance is not exactly my cup of tea, but I quite enjoyed this book, more than I thought I would. I picked it up out of sheer boredom and it managed to entertain me, I even think about getting the part two. I saw someone here in reviews compare it to Twilight, only better. I didn’t read or seen Twilight, but I didn’t live under a rock in the past 15 years so I now the gist of it. I can agree with that assessment, it has some similarities in characters and fantasy elements, but it is not annoying or insulting to the readers intelligence, which is always good. I must say that I preferred Lindsay as a character before Nevan, she just seems more realistic to me, more identifiable. He is maybe a little too perfect, strong, noble, protective, all that, but I guess that is ok for this type of book. The plot is pretty good and moves along, and just when I got tired at some parts, there was a romance, or should I say, sex scene, and those are excellently written. Maybe the best part of the book.
So, if you are in the lookout for a enjoyable and light romance with fantasy core, this is probably right for you.

I received The Mortal Falls as a review copy through Reading Deals. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. This was a tough read for me--too much snarky dialog in the first chapters (when reader is trying to figure out what's happening and who the characters are). Lindsay comes across as a petulant teen, rather than a smart, independent woman. A cop who brings Lindsay in for questioning for no reason --after all, there's no body (police procedural rules ignored), and a mysterious character, Nevan, who teasingly doesn't answer questions- which extends the story, but I find annoying. My challenge was to read beyond Chapter Three to see if the author would hit stride...okay, so it gets better, but I still never did connect with Lindsay, a 32-yr old virgin, of all things--the fact it took me a week to get through it is telling. This series is not for me, but I think this is subjective, not necessarily a problem with the writing.

I really wanted to like this book more. It was over 11 hours of listening and I felt like it was almost wasted.

There’s a lot of action, I loved the characters and even the premise of the story. There was enough romance to keep a reader like me interested, and trying to figure out what was going to happen next definitely kept me on my toes.

**Spoiler**

The main issues that I had were that there was a whole 25 minute chapter dedicated to intimacy, it didn’t seem like Lindsay ever got a break (things constantly happening one after the other to her or Nevin), and then it just seemed to be so drawn out. I’m all for the build up, but this felt like this book definitely could have been wrapped into one book instead of a (very lengthy) trilogy.
So this book just wasn’t for me.

I did like the narrator, she wasn’t my favorite but I think she did a great job with all the different accents and voices.

As someone who reads a lot of fantasy/paranormal books, this one had some really interesting lore and worldbuilding. I appreciate the originality of the supernatural aspect with respect to legitimate lore/mythology.

While this book was not necessarily a literary masterpiece (there were some eye-rolling moments, for sure), it was an enjoyable read and I can see myself continuing the series. Some of the storyline was painfully predictable, but that's kind of what you get with this genre most of the time. I appreciated the FMC's sass and attitude, and it added a layer of levity to the story that I can always appreciate. Some aspects of the story did feel like they were meant to lead to something more important.. and then it just kind of fizzled out... but I appreciate that even the predictable moments didn't feel cliche or ridiculous. I liked that the main character stuck to her beliefs and feelings and didn't just bow to the love interest. Overall, I enjoyed the story!

3 1/2 Star Review.....

The Mortal Falls is the first book in Anna Durand’s Undercover Elementals and is packed with heart pounding action, steam up your glasses romance, and some impressive world building too. Ms Durand doesn’t go over the top with laying the foundation for the books to come, but rather focuses on the here and now, which I really apreciate.

I did find Lindsey a little immature at times, but based on her “cough” 32 year-old virgin status; what can you expect? Nevan is the Adonis hero of the story, who is protective, sometimes sweet and all things alpha male….need I say more? But probably my favourite character was Travis; and while even he had his moments of yo-yoing mannerisms, I still found him, and the story likeable. I’m interested to see where the author goes next and what characters will take front and centre in the stories to come.

Dropped right into the middle of a situation, Lindsey finds herself in trouble from the beginning. In her search for answers she finds Nevan but nothing is easy. This is a fast paced romp with action, adventure, romance and some really bad bad guys. There is a second book but this one doesn't spend a ton of time setting the scene like some first in a series do. Deft handling of characters development and world building makes it easy to follow along and gather information as you go rather than having it all tossed at you at the cost of the flow of the story. Well written, entertaining and adventuresome, there are twists and turns you won't see coming, a strong female lead and a great hero for her. Looking forward to more in this series. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

This was another Chirp audiobook deal where it sounded so completely outlandish that I just had to know. I mean water is some sort of conduit to another world?! Sign me up.

There was a leprechaun, a silf (no idea how to spell that) and some sort of monkey man. Yep, you read that sentence correctly. Oh, and I can't forget to mention, a virgin. Duh. The whole story started with a dead body and the female lead being framed for a murder. The whole thing took place in Michigan's upper peninsula. She's being framed for murder but meeta a super hot non-human dude in a loin cloth and we are off the the races!

This was one of the stranger things I've ever read and hopefully you can tell from my synopsis that I don't really even know how to summarize it?!

Its a Definite BUY BUY BUY BOOK.

Normally, I would not buy such a book. It is a little outside my area of interest. I would of really missed a good read! The author has such a fantastic way of writing a story that pulls you inside of it and allows you to just read an enjoy. Her characters , the fantasy , the paranormal, every single element was wonderful. I sincerely appreciated the opportunity to read this. I was actually given this ARC by the author in return for an honest review. I can only say, if you like paranormal as well as read that captures and holds your interest. BUY THE BOOK! Regards, Anna

The Mortal Falls is the first book in the series, it's by a relatively new author to me so I didn't really know what to expect. But right from the very beginning, I was drawn into the story, this author writes in such a way that I, as a reader, felt like a fly on the wall and was able to feel like I was experiencing everything rather than just reading it. The characters are so well drawn and you get to know them really well so you can't help but feel everything going on in the story.

The romance is steamy, the chemistry is palpable and hot and there is lots of thrilling action, I for one would like to revisit this supernatural world of the Unseen Realm.

I've picked up and put this down at least 20 times in two months. I don't know why I can't get into this series. Is it the way it started? No. Not really...

If I'm completely honest with myself it's the confusing layout. I can't seem to keep who is who right in my mind. I know sometimes I struggle with fantasy books or movies because they want to lay everything out right away. But I just couldn't keep it straight. I think I was just getting to the good parts with the king or maybe he's the prince. Maybe I have too much going on in my brain while reading this and it's put my reading comprehension down to my toddler's level.

Wow another amazing book by Anna Durand, sorry guys I’m not giving any spoilers because Anna gives you the gist of the book in the blurb. This is the world of the supernatural and fantasy with action, adventure, magic and romance. Ok maybe a little spoiler lol, this story is about Lindsey who has run away from her past, being accused of murder she goes into a different realm to get some answers and find out the truth. What a great read and it was very well written with excellent descriptions of the characters good and bad. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves the paranormal.

Seeing is believing in the world of magic.

A great read. A full fantasy loosely based on the Sidhe legends. Waterfalls and water used as portals into another realm. Why does she keep finding dead bodies? Can she commit to one person? Is she the key? The heroine could have been a bit more confident in herself but the hero was lacking nothing. I would have liked for a more detailed explanation of what her powers really where and some more examples of her using them. Also a more detailed explanation of why the boundaries where important.
I got an ARC copy of the book for a honest review.
