It is Memorial Day weekend, and everyone is eagerly awaiting the opening of C’s, the restaurant Suzy and Josie are starting with Chef Claire. And on opening night, Suzy and Josie are surprised to find out that Suzy’s mother has invited the mobster Jimmy Calducci and his entourage to have dinner with them. When Suzy and Josie find Calducci’s dead body on his houseboat the following day, along with his dog, a gorgeous Norwegian Elkhound with some serious health issues, Suzy and Josie embark on a mission to save the dog’s life as well as figure out how the mobster died. Along the way, they are forced to deal with a dangerous and unusual group of possible suspects including Fatal Franny, a contract killer who worked for Calducci, and the mysterious Rocco, a former criminal who has entered their lives in a rather suspicious way. And when the mayor of Clay Bay disappears, events take another strange turn, and the question of who killed Calducci becomes even more nuanced and layered. The Thousand Islands Doggy Inn Mysteries features two of the smartest and funniest lead female protagonists to hit the cozy mystery scene in a very long time, and Suzy and Josie’s affection for food and their boundless love and devotion to their dogs puts this new series in the don’t miss category. The Case of the Eccentric Elkhound is the latest installment in this fast-paced and funny series that affectionately focuses on dogs, food, and the natural beauty of the Thousand Islands region.
I have read all the books in the series thus far. This being #5. I thoroughly enjoy the characters in this book: Suzie who takes care of the daycare and Josie who is the Vet and loves to eat. In this book Chef Claire is a major character who lives on the property and is the chef in the restaurant the girls own in partnership with Suzie’s Mom. Then there is the chief of police, Jackson and the ME, Freddy who both are fickle with Chef Claire. In each of the books, the girls somehow get involved in a murder. In this book there are two murders! It’s easy reading and so very entertaining. Of course there is intrigue; can you figure out who is the murderer? I have already downloaded the next book!
Continuing to enjoy this entertaining series. This one was especially fun with the mobster theme and I look forward to more involvement from Rocco who is a welcome addition to this wonderful cast of characters.
I do like this series. Lots of editing mistakes which is why the three stars. I'm alternating between this and the pizza murder series. Both have a long list.
I love this series by B.R. Snow. This is the fourth in the thousands islands as ends Doggy Inn series. This one has Suzy and Josie trying to figure out who killed the head of a mob family. The victim was originally from Thousands Islands and owns an elkhound puppy. The girls board his boat because the puppy is acting strange and when they find the owner,to tell him that they taking the dog to check him out. They find the mob head dead. On the fun side the police chief,Jackson and the medical examiner,Freddie continue to try to one up each other, for Chef Claire's attention. Can't wait for the fifth book.
