A low key, light Aussie story that didn't push the boundaries of anything solid. I think this is a 2.5 star read for me, rounded up to 3.

I do love a winery setting and had previously enjoyed this cute one A Taste For It. Mattie has a terrible skiing accident while working in England. Homeward bound back to Australia to recover and find her feet again.

Family dramas, fracking, and romance, things always seemed to work out nicely. Lots of over the top Aussie slang, I find in instances like this it is not believable, and that people don't talk like this. It always reminds me of the final scenes of the Point Break movie with Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves, a non-Australian playing an Australian, so fake, but funny in a way! Some dialogue seemed delivered by an older generation, which made it come across, for me, a little formal.

This could be a nice light holiday read to be picked up and put down, maybe even by the pool!

Thanks to Goodreads, the author and the publisher for my physical copy to read and review.

Last year I had the pleasure of reading Kayte Nunn’s debut novel, Rose’s Vintage. With the rise in popularity of Australian rural romances set around vineyards, I classed Rose’s Vintage as the best of the bunch. A chance to revisit the memorable characters, as well as stunning region of the fictional town Shingle Valley, through reading Angel’s Share was a welcome one. Although this book is the second in the Shingle Valley series, it can very easily be read as a stand alone novel.

Angel’s Share introduces as to a new main character to Shingle Valley, Mark’s (owner of Kalkarri Wines) sister, Matilda “Mattie” Cameron. Mattie has been living abroad for ten years, carving out a successful career for herself in London. While on a holiday with her boyfriend Johnny, Mattie suffers from a near fatal ski accident, due to a snow avalanche. Mattie suffers a further terrible blow when her boyfriend dumps her soon after the accident. Mattie decides rather reluctantly at first to return home to Australia for some TLC and to recover from her injuries. Home for Mattie is now her brother’s picturesque boutique winery, which seems like to perfect place to recuperate. Mattie soon realises her broken heart and loss of career in London, pales into comparison to her brother Mark’s problems. With a mining threat to the winery he worked so hard to build up from scratch, through to custody issues with his ex and mother of his two children to contend with. Life sure isn’t smooth sailing at Kalkarri. As Mattie tries to find her purpose in life again and heal physically from her wounds, she finds herself falling for old love interest. Mattie sets her sights on local winemaker Charlie, who she had a crush on as a teen. As Mattie’s attraction to Charlie grows, she is faced with a rather large romantic obstacle, Charlie is promised to another woman. Can Mattie make a life for herself back home in Shingle Valley and love again?

I very much welcomed a return to Shingle Valley, through reading Angel’s Share, a fresh instalment in Kayte Nunn’s vineyard backdrop series. I loved the sense of familiarity that came with this book. Often when you finish a great book, you wonder how the characters will progress after that final page is turned. Well, Kayte Nunn filled that void for me by writing Angel’s Share. I felt a strong sense of comfort in discovering how Rose, the main protagonist from the first book, was travelling. It was interesting to see how Rose’s relationship with Mark was now playing out and how she was handling her new role as a stepmother, while balancing her own wishes to have a child. Angel’s Share also allows the reader to see how Rose’s food business venture is panning out, as well as Mark’s winery. I welcomed the return of minor but loveable characters from the previous novel, such as Mark’s children Luisa, Leo and Rose’s friend Astrid. I wasn’t at all surprised when Mark’s ex Isabelle was reintroduced, still causing a rift in the family. These characters definitely contribute to some memorable scenes in Angel’s Share.

Mattie, the main character Nunn has chosen to zone Angel’s Share on was another likeable protagonist. I developed a genuine interest in her affairs. In particular, I felt absolutely awful for Mattie when she was delivered with a double whammy – a near fatal skiing accident, closely followed by a heartless relationship breakup with her British boyfriend Johnny. These scenes allow us to see how Nunn is able to write with compassion. I found Nunn’s writing smooth and easy to digest. Nunn’s style of writing allows us to develop a close attachment to Mattie, along with strengthening our interest in the welfare of the returning characters, such as Rose and Mark. Mattie’s issues in the romance field with love interest Charlie add complications to the story, as we see Mattie’s path to happiness is not an easy one. Overall, I appreciated the way in which Nunn tackled this angle of the story, especially Mattie’s healing process.

It is a shame Shingle Valley is a fictional town, as I would dearly lovely to visit this part of Australia and taste the wine the featured winery Kalkarri has to offer. Kayte Nunn’s palatable descriptions of this stunning vineyard and surrounds make me want to visit this delicious story setting in a heartbeat! Instead, I will settle with having immensely enjoyed the experience of reading Kayte Nunn’s second novel, Angel’s Share. I will raise my glass of sweet fresh wine, a staple while reading this novel, to Kayte Nunn for a fine second offering in the Shingle Valley series.

*I wish to thank the publisher (Nero) and Goodreads for providing me with a copy of this book for review.

Life is going along well for Mattie with a great job, Johnny and a 10 day skiing holiday in Switzerland. That is, until a serious accident changes everything. Unable to work Mattie moves back to Australia to stay with her brother Mark, his children Leo and Luisa from an earlier marriage and current partner Rose. Mark owns a winery. But other developments in Shingle Valley have Mark and other property owners concerned. For Mattie, Shingle Valley is a far cry from her life in London and coming home is not something she ever thought she would do. But after the accident she really didn’t have too many options. Rose and Mattie become friends and a romantic interest from the past resurfaces. Mattie has to find a job while living at the winery. Can she come up with some creative solutions and does she really want to stay in Australia. Or work on getting back to London and her life there?
Some of these characters I had met in a earlier book, Rose’s Vintage and it was good to catch up again. Most are likeable though I found Mattie’s friend Cara, with her look-at-me attitude, language and Aussie slang which at times seemed so over top, annoying. But all in all, an enjoyable read about families and small rural communities.

Look at the cover for Angel’s Share by Kayte Nunn. It just radiates warmth, sunshine and relaxing times, right? What’s even better is that the novel inside these pages is just as warmth, heartfelt and relaxing. It’s like you can step inside into the world of the characters in Shingle Valley and just relax. The story is enjoyable and sprinkled with sunshine.

If you’ve read Rose’s Vintage, you will be familiar with some of the characters of this book. If not, it honestly doesn’t matter because this book stands alone perfectly well. (I can vouch for that, being one of the latter). The vineyards, businesses and characters are all explained well, as well as relationships formed (and possibly broken) in the last book. This book introduces Mattie (short for Matilda), Mark’s sister who left for London in her teens and never looked back. Now she has a great job in advertising, a lovely boyfriend and a great best friend. It looks like her life will continue on the same trajectory until a skiing holiday in Switzerland turns pear-shaped and Mattie is injured. If that’s not bad enough, she also learns some harsh life lessons about who to trust and who flees in a crisis. When Mark offers her the opportunity to recuperate back home in Australia, she’s initially reluctant but doesn’t really have anywhere to go.

It’s back home in Australia that things start to get more interesting for Mattie. There’s seeing friends of her youth, plus Charlie Drummond, former crush. But it’s more than just romance as Mattie learns her skills can be used in other fields and help out the small country community. Another thing that’s great about Angel’s Share is that it’s not just all about Mattie – we get to see Rose’s take on things as she tries to be a good stepmother, business owner and everything in between. Plus the arrival in the valley of friend Cara adds high fashion and loads of fun. It’s a great ensemble of characters that you really want to know more about. I can’t think of any characters that I wouldn’t have been happy to read more of (even the evil Isabella and Johnny were interesting in their reactions).

I really liked how the potential romance between Mattie and Charlie wasn’t a major focus. I know some people will say the opposite, but I found it refreshing to learn about the daily life of the characters. There were some big issues covered with fracking in the valley (and Mattie’s mistreatment by one of the guards) and it was lovely to show how a small community can come together (and work together!) to try and make things better for everyone, not just themselves. Mattie’s road not only to physical health but the next phase in her life was a joy to read.

Both the setting and the characters really come to life under Kayte Nunn’s guidance in Angel’s Share. I’d love to visit the area and partake in the great food and wine! Sadly, it’s fictional but that doesn’t stop you from enjoying the read. I’d love to see some more books in this series – Cara, city girl turned rural, would be perfect!

Thank you to Black Inc Books for the copy of this book. My review is honest.

Matilda 'Mattie' Cameron is in her early thirties, and is enjoying a successful life in London.
She headed there from Australia in her late teens to pursue a career there, and hasn't seen her parents or her brother Mark in years.
She now has a handsome beau, a great group of girlfriends, and a job at an advertising agency that is impressive yet highly demanding.
So when her boyfriend Johnny organises a skiing trip to Switzerland for ten days with Mattie and a couple of friends, she can't wait.
But a horrific skiing accident leaves Mattie with terrible injuries, and she loses not only her job, but Johnny as a result.
At a loss for what to do, she comes to the decision to head back to Australia to allow herself time to heal.
Mark offers her a place to stay at his winery, located in the quaint town of Shingle Valley in NSW.
Mattie is welcomed into the home by Mark, and his partner Rose, along with his two young children from a previous relationship.
Mark is a kind and caring brother to Mattie, but he is concerned with issues relating to the future of Shingle Valley, and is away for extended periods of time.
Rose steps in to care for Mattie, and the two quickly become firm friends. Rose is a generous and compassionate woman, and makes Mattie feel right at home.
But as Mattie begins to recuperate from her injuries, she is faced with the decision of where her future lies, particularly when she meets winemaker Charlie Drummond, and develops feelings for him.
Should she head back to London and give things another shot, or should she make a life for herself in Shingle Valley?

Angel's Share is a really pleasant book that I breezed through in a couple of days. I enjoyed the vast range of characters, however, Rose was my favourite, as she put the needs of others before her own in many situations, whilst trying to run her restaurant, Trevelyn's Pantry, and taking on the role of step-mum to Mark's children.
I was pleased to discover that the characters have been featured in Kayte Nunn's other novel, Rose's Vintage, which I plan to read in the near future.
If you're after a easy-to-read, highly-enjoyable book, then be sure to check out Angel's Share.

To be honest, this is not the type of book I would normally read. I am a huge fan of general and historical fiction, and Non fiction titles. However, when I was given the opportunity to read this book I thought why not. I am actually pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it and found myself reading the whole thing over two days. I got engrossed in Mattie Cameron's story and found myself wanting some awesome stuff to happen for this women whose life seemed to be going backwards rather than forwards.

What I really appreciated about this book is that it wasn't overly romancey...which is why I liked it. I love Australian literature so that was also a huge plus with this book.

The writer Kayte Nunn, beautifully wrote each character and they all find a place within your heart as you get to know them. There was a strong kinship among most of the characters and you get the sense that those that aren't related to each other are like family anyway.

Kayte Nunn is an engaging writer, I couldn't put the book down. Each chapter was a good size and I didn't feel like I was running a marathon to get to the end of each chapter.

I didn't realise until halfway through that there had been a novel before this one called "Rose's Vintage"But it didn't matter because I didn't feel like I missed out on anything. If it becomes a longer series I would without a doubt read the remaining books.

Thank you to Nero Books and Kayte Nunn for the opportunity to read and leave an honest review of your book.

Angel's Share is an entertaining, comforting, delightful read. I enjoyed the writing and felt fully immersed in the story.

I liked that time was taken to really get a sense of the characters and the setting. However, I never felt like I really knew Charlie all that well. In the beginning it felt like it was setting up for a slow build, epic romance. Instead, the romance was more of a charming side story in amongst the bigger picture of family, community, and Mattie's own journey of finding her place in the world after she seemingly loses everything in her accident. It did make for a nice change to get a closer look at other issues for these characters and get a real feel for their everyday lives. Through both Mattie and Rose's eyes, you get a true understanding of what makes the Shingle Valley so special and why they'd want to call it home.

A really enjoyable story!

Truly enjoyed reading 'Angel's Share', had fun with the ocker phrases and Golden Gaytime memories. Shingle Valley was delectably described, and the clash between 'mines and vines' is a very timely and emotive issue. More RM Williams than bodice-ripping, more dust than lust - this rural romance will seduce those readers not into potboilers.

Thanks to Goodreads and Nero for an advanced reading copy.

I received my ARC through a Goodreads giveaway, thank you to Nero.
I enjoyed this Australian story, it was an upbeat and quick contemporary read. The Characters of Mattie and Rose were easy to love, and the writing moved along well. Kayte Nunn writes about the vineyard landscapes beautifully, I really enjoyed the setting in this novel. My only criticisms are at some points the plot was quite predictable and I felt there was an overuse of similes and Australianisms.

What a great read following on from Rose's Vintage. Love the additional characters who rock up in Shingle Valley and family/community life scenes that Nunn paints. I love to get to the a-ha moment in a book when the title is used. Looking forward to what Kayte does next

3 1/2 stars. Thanks for Goodreads and Nero for my ARC. This is 2nd book, but also stand alone, set in fictional Shingle Valley, a wine growing region in NSW. The book is well written, the story moves along well, following Mattie, who returns home from 10 years in London to recuperate after a near fatal skiing accident. She moves in with her brother Mark, who has established a successful boutique winery. Although a rural romance, it does delve into topical issues such as fraking. An enjoyable read, but I felt Nunn overdid the colloquialisms in her quest to give the book an Australian flavour.

From Australian author, Kayte Nunn comes the sequel to Rose’s Vintage, Angel’s Share. With a gorgeous title and cover, it’s a welcome return to country life with Rose, her husband Mark and his sister, Mattie (Matilda) Cameron. While Rose’s Vintage centred on Rose, this time around the focus is on Mattie and her journey of self discovery. Mattie’s story begins in London and crosses the globe to Switzerland and finally, Australia, where her family lives. With themes of wineries, family, relationships and love, this is time spent with old friends.

Mattie Cameron was living the life in London. With good friends, a gorgeous boyfriend, Johnny, she’s loving every minute of her creative career. When the opportunity arose to go skiing in Switzerland, Mattie looks forward to some down time. Putting her faith in Johnny turns out to be a near fatal mistake when Mattie is involved in a freak accident. What is more shocking is Johnny’s reaction to Mattie’s situation. No longer wearing rose tinted glasses, Mattie must decide where to recuperate…London or home?

Home was Shingle Valley, Australia. The fictional town was stunning as Mattie surrounded herself amongst family and old friends once again. Mark and Rose were nothing but compassionate and sympathetic when they realised Rose was suffering from more than just a broken body. They’re children were a delight and helped Mattie on the road to recovery. Old friends included an old crush, Charlie, who Mattie disconcertedly discovered she still had feelings for. But there’s a catch and its in the shape of another woman.

It doesn’t take long for Mattie to remember the highs and lows of working on a vineyard. Even though Mattie can do little as a result of her misfortunate, she is a creative and resourceful person. I found myself being impressed with the many small, but important, ways that Mattie was determined to help out on Mark’s vineyard. As her mind and body healed, Mattie learnt to appreciate each day without being a burden on her loved ones. There were many times when the Cameron family could have given up but they were all proud of their inheritance and willing to do whatever it took to succeed.

Angel's Share is a remnder that the human spirit can overcome adversity with the help of loved ones.

As she recovers she begin recovers she helps with designs a new lay out for Fregment with her friend Cara who comes home to visit her family in Sydney and she falls for Jake. Also she take up photography her, design a label for a wine. Mattie struggles with her feelings for Cameron as well along the way. A job offer in England has her thinking whether to go or stay.

Matty, an Aussie girl living in the U.K. Has an accident and returns home to recuperate at her family's vineyard. There she meets up with Charlie, a man from her past.

This book is the second of a series but is a stand alone novel. I received it as a giveaway through Goodreads.

This book is probably a 3.5 for me. I did enjoy it and it was a fun read but it didn't grab me. It is a good read on a Sunday afternoon with a glass of wine. I had not read anything by this author before but I will look out for more of her books.

It mentions in the blurb that this is a second novel using the same characters as "Roses Vintage", which I haven't read.. reading this, you couldn't tell though.

It's more a romantic drama, than a mystery journey like her other works "The Forgotten Letters" and "The Botanists Daughter". But I loved it all the more for not following the same old format.

Great read, I couldn't put it down.

Can't wait to read her latest.

Angel’s Share—a sweet confection of a novel set in 2013. Overflowing with wine, good food, darling children and animals, healthy young people and the growing pains and pleasures of life in rural Australia. If this subject matter and setting interests you, stream McLeod’s Daughters—a tv series (early 2000s) which has a depth and intensity this novel just begins to explore.

Another well written book by Kayte Nunn but I did find the use of Aussie slang heavy handed this time around.

The characters were all three dimensional and likeable. I enjoyed following Mattie's personal journey. The progression of the romantic relationship was maybe a bit patchy but it was still cute.

I'm glad we were given insight into what Rose from Book One was up to. There were also some other interesting supporting characters such as Cara. I look forward to seeing if there's more books released in this series.
