Hailing from California. Brandon Barr writes in the genres of science fiction and fantasy and often combines the two, preferring stories where the science is soft, the fantastic is vivid, and the flesh and soul characters are front and center.
I truly enjoyed this short story. I think Brandon wrote a 2nd person story wonderfully. I did feel like I was in the story. And what a strange wonderful story. It takes you into a different world of a girl that lives her life time so quickly. I don't want to go too far into the story and give away any of it being a short story it is over before I wanted it to be. But what an action packed story. I must read, a true sci-fi story.
Such a brilliant short story. Loved it. Because it is a short story, can’t say a lot about story. Suffice it to say, I adore Cora’s Hands. You will too. RIP Brandon. Sympathy to all who love you.
This is the first book that I have ever read where I have been turned into one of the characters in the story by being the second persons point of view. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is such a beautiful story and I highly recommend it to all. Thank you Brandon Barr for a great and new reading experience for me, I found it very entertaining.
I just finished Cora' s Hands by Brandon Barr. I've often expressed the desire for a separate category for Short Stories because it just doesn't seem proper to give an outstanding Short Story the same top rating as an outstanding full length novel. That being said, I feel I must limit my rating to Four Stars. It's also difficult to give a summary of a Short Story without it spoiling the reader's enjoyment of the story. The Author has provided a better summary than any reviewer could anyway. I'll just say I enjoyed this very much and you'll find it very much worth the time invested to read it.
Exceptionally creative, definitely thought provoking. This is the second time I have read this story and I like it even more. 5 stars because I will read it again and have all the other books from Mr. Barr. He sure can weave a good tale!
It was a great concept and a solid ending but IT WAS TOO DANG SHORT WHY WHY WHY I NEED MORE.
Recommended 12/13+ for slavery, violence, and maybe a swear word or two

This was an interesting short story, but I can't say I loved it.
I applaud the author for attempting a 2nd person point of view, but instead of making me feel as if I was a part of the story, it felt odd. Could be that I'm just not accustomed to reading in that point of view.
From an editor's standpoint, there was missing punctuation, particularly apostrophes to indicate possessive, not plural. A stray "there" instead of "their," "anymore" rather than "any more," and "bu" instead of "but" added to the distractions.
Another awesome story about people overcoming their fears and standing up for the good cause which the prophesy has foretold. Cora's hands obviously play a big part in the story but there's an unpredictable ending too.
You are right, it is a short story. LOL. I truly liked the 2nd-person viewpoint. I sort of wish it was longer. This story is so interesting from the 2nd-person viewpoint to the rebellion talk. Does it continue? Thank you for a great story, Mr. Barr.
Not something that would hold my interest, but potentially interesting story line. Very short though. There were just a few typos but otherwise well written. Reading from first person was different and interesting as well. The climax left questions unanswered like why did the men just leave and with them still alive without putting up a bigger fight? I like complex stories with blindsiding plot twists. This was simple and unsatisfying in the plot and climax. The resolution did leave you hanging for more. This has potential if explored further and expanded upon.
So... I just read Cora's Hands. Brandon Barr had me when he said that this short story was written with the "you", in the 2nd person point of view. I've never read a story written like that, as us being a part of the story. I must say I was intrigued... In the beginning, I was a little lost. But, a new world and everything, it was normal... Then, I was surprised as to how powerful that "you" was... The end took me by surprise! Seriously, I got to feel everything I read, the end was so intense that it hurt inside. I was upset it was already over! Worth reading!
Such a good short story! Loved it! Too bad it wasn't a novel. Author can write a good story. I received a complimentary copy of this book for voluntary review consideration.
