Lila Callan had an unconventional upbringing—unavoidable when your mother owns a brothel. But while she’d inherited some of her parents’ ‘wacky and offbeat’, she was also strong, independent and incredibly intelligent. The fact she was tall, beautiful and blond was a bonus she never really cared to exploit. She wasn’t uptight; it’s just that long term was more her thing, with zero interest in one-night stands. Until she met Ryan York and then she isn’t so sure. Blindingly good looking. Insane body. Infectious sense of humor. And charm for days. Ryan York was movie star material. Except that he wasn’t. He’d turned his back on the idea of hitting the big time, more content with being Eric Larsson’s—his best friend who was a movie star—right-hand man. Despite his laid-back persona, he was a guy who could get stuff done. And women lined up to be done by Ryan. He did not have a problem with that. Not. At. All. Except his magical panty dropping powers didn’t seem to extend to the lovely Lila. And she wasn’t sure if she was going to teach the #1 player a new game, or find one herself. One way or another, they were both getting naked.

Been meaning to read this book since 2017 and 😬.

Ryan and Lila are the respective best friends of the couple in the first book so they’ve known each other since then. Lila is a reporter, and her best friend Tia’s husband is a Hollywood actor, so she comes to LA for two weeks to cover a story and is aware she’ll be seeing Ryan again.

Problems:

1. She’s overzealous and jumps the gun a lot in the book. Half the time she’s assumes he’s sexting other girls or having causal sex in his free time when he’s not hanging out with them. Maybe he is, maybe he’s not? Don’t pursue him if the situation affects you this much before he’s even yours. She’s convincing herself she can have a fling before she leaves because he always flirting with her/wants to have sex with her.
2. She’s overly transparent with her feelings. Maybe play it a little safe? Especially if you have all these assumptions about his character.
3. Classic trope: h has been celibate for a while, H is known for his “womaniser” ways albeit v. respectful, funny and kind. H has been with ow since meeting h which kind of cemented my rating, excluding his “player” ways (nothing on page). It’s more the fact that when he met her there was nothing deeper than lust.
4. Because of my distaste, I had to skim because I wasn’t enjoying it.

I was really looking forward to reading Ryan & Lila's book after reading #1 Crush and their story didn't disappoint.

I like Lila quite a bit. She was strong, independent, smart. There were times when I wish that she would have the strength to speak up and tell Ryan exactly how she felt. It would have saved a lot of time and heartache. I love how she really sticks to her morals and as a reporter gets people to trust her with their story.

Ryan had me in stitches. He could turn anything said into a sexual innuendo (my kind of guy, lol!)! He's extremely loyal to his friendship with Eric and that was something to be commended. He leads this secret life that he lets Lila into.

A really fun, enjoyable summer read. Something to lift my mood.

This was much fun! I love it when a new to me author really tickles my fancy! I first read T. Gephart a couple months ago, and was super excited to see what else she had in store. I’m not shocked to learn that I really like her style. Her romances are funny, witty, and so sweet.

Here’s what I loved: The characters are exceptional. The hero in #1 player is to die for sexy! Gah, Ryan is amazing! The heroine, Lila, is my kind of girl! She gorgeous, ambitious, a little snarky, and a great friend. Her “unconventional upbringing” really provides an interesting backdrop to her character.

Great writing, a fun and flirty plot, and awesome characters make this an excellent light read! Recommended to fans of romantic comedy.

It's quite a sexy hot pot of a book. Tina creates Ryan York, a sex on legs bidyguard/driver/best friend to Eric Larsen who we met in #1 Crush. And he makes Lila Callan gush like a Hoover Dan in the southern region . This is a definite one handed read for sure !!
Ryan York is Hunky, hit, often shirtless . My kinda man 😍

description
He was no man. He was some sort of divine being descended from deities, sent to earth for the pleasure of women . Stories would be written and songs sung of his legend, with his sexual mastery spoken in whispered reverence for all eternity.

And Lila is career driven so has no time for prolonged relationship, while can't do casual sex either.
This book will lit your panties on fire ladies !🔥🔥

#1 Player is a quick read because T. Gephart writing is effortless and amusing.even if it is the second book in the series I've read it as a standalone and I liked it so much that now I'm so curious to also know how Tia and Eric's relationship started.

Lila and Ryan journey is funny, flirtatious and hot.I was so entertained in reading it that I didn't realized the end was fast approaching until I sadly turned the last page.

I'm so glad I still have a lot of this author works to read and enjoy.

Another cute and entertaining story by T. Gephart. This time it's Lila's story. Now that her BFF Tia is settle with Eric between two coats Lila is bored. Her job isn't her favorite not as hard hitting journalism. But when she gets sent to LA for a story and gets to see her long time crush Ryan it will get interesting.

These two flirted like mad, the innuendo and all that's not new but on the west coast it's ramped up. Suddenly Lila can't seem to resist Ryan's charms even if her is player. Why not give in for one time? After all he is being extra attentive.

Ryan's pretty much what his reputation is but lately he seems more one woman. With him helping Lila with her story things get cozy. Lila definitely gave in, thing is she's from New York and her LA adventures will be over soon. Will their relationship shift back to flirty friends after?

So while I enjoyed #1 Player I feel like the vibe between #1 Crush is very different. Although it was less over the top it was still good in it's own way. The playfulness is there. Though I wasn't a solid believer in the sudden turn in Lila and Ryan's relationship, it felt fast from playful and flirty to love but it wasn't bad. I just hoped to get more development wise. The author's writing is easy as always and still much likable.

Funny, playful, and utterly adorable!!!. T. Gephart is somewhat a new author for me and so when I read the blurb of #1 Player, I knew that I needed to get my hands on this book stat. Boy oh boy, Gephart did not disappoint as she kept me entertained throughout the whole book. Without spoiling the story, I will just say Ryan York will have you swooning and smiling big time. The playfulness and banter is what made this book a fun sexy read. So if you are looking for a romance that will grinning from ear to ear as a man tries to pursue a woman and show her she’s not like the rest then this book is for you.

T. Gephart played me well this time around.

My cheeks are cracking from smiling too much, I'm halfway to the hospital for broken voice box due to excessive laughing and my parents are checking me into the mental asylum for giggling like a hyena at an ungodly hour (it was 2 am).

The thing with the author, the humor was effortless and it was shown in the banter between Lila and Ryan. I've been rooting for a Ryan fix ever since his appearance in #1 Crush and I had more than what I bargained for in this book.

Ryan was your typical jock with a heart of gold, but his smooth personality had us all falling all over his charm - and the ladies into his bed. Lila has the most unconventional upbringing with her mother owning and running a brothel, but her views of love has always been traditional. She is the kind of woman who believes in commitment and relationship, until Ryan.

I honestly enjoyed the story! Ryan and Lila were perfect together and they just seemed so natural. Incredibly funny, romantic with a side of angst, highly recommended for Rom-Com fans who loved a dose of humor in their romance.

My review: https://www.facebook.com/books4girls/...

First of all, I would like to thank Tina Gephart and the Social Butterfly PR team for this ARC.

I discovered Tina’s stories recently with Train Wreck. I don’t have read #1 Crush, the previous book on the series but it didn’t disturb my reading. This one is a real standalone, I don’t feel like I missed something…

This romantic comedy is about Lila and Ryan, Tia’s and Eric’s bests friends (#1 Crush characters). The whole story is from Lila's point of view, which makes Ryan's character more mysterious for me.

This story was a lot of fun to read! There’s some funny situations, surrealistic conversations and interesting secondary characters like Lila’s parents (they’re hilarious) and Richard “Dick” (Lila’s boss).

In brief, I really enjoyed this romantic comedy. She combines humor, endearing characters and a lot of fun situations. You can read it without reading #1 Crush. And maybe, like me, you will discover that you want to read the story of Tia and Eric too.

* * * * * * * * * *

Reviewed on behalf of Book Addict.live,
This is a really enjoyable read, and I thought Ryan and Lila were cute together. Even though we met the pair in #1 Crush and the couple Eric and Tia from #1 Crush do appear in this book, but it can read as a standalone.
We they first met was instant attraction both deciding to enjoy a sexual relationship while Lila stays in LA for work and while living with Tia and Eric.
This is very hot sexy read, with the chemistry between the two off the charts. They grew close very quickly, and you could feel the love blossom between them.
If you enjoy a great romance where you can see love growing between the couple. I fell for Ryan myself so was very jealous of all the attention Lila received from him.
This is a funny enjoyable read from T. Gephart.

I read this after I had read #1 Muse, which I loved so much so that I purchased all of the books in this series, I mean how could you not, they are hilarious. I was actually upset at first because I couldn't believe that prior to #1Muse I had never read her. I felt betrayed that all of this time and I was missing hours upon hours of non stop entertainment, but let me tell I quickly remedied that, I will not miss another book from her! Grab a copy and as always Enjoy!

Another wonderfully fun read from T Gephart! I loved Ryan and Lila's story. Lila's strength and stubbornness is balanced well with Ryan's playful nature. One of my favorite things about this author is that she can definitely bring the humor. I laughed quite a bit through this one. I absolutely recommend this book!!!

I honestly didn’t know this book was even a thought or in the works for that matter. But I was so glad it was. We've seen these two in the first book of what is now a series, #1 Crush. It is a book I absolutely fell in love with. I loved the characters and the amount of crazy in it. And while they got their happily ever after, this book isn’t about them. Its about the two best friends that we have only seen glimpses of.

I was so excited when I heard that Lila and Ryan were getting a book. Hell I was just excited Lila was getting one. I loved her in book one and I wanted more. I’m so glad I got a chance to get that more. And I wasn’t disappointed either. This book was so good. Like beyond good. It was super funny, and had all the feel goods. It wasn’t overly dramatic and over done. It was just right.

Lila sat back and watched her best friend get her happily ever after, with the guy of her dreams, literally. And she was hoping one day soon, that would be her. Even though she was crazy happy for her friend, she wanted that kind of connection and love too. But guys who want more than a casual fling are hard to come by. With not letting it over take her thoughts, she falls head first into trying to take her boring career, the one she has always wanted, to new heights. She is given the opportunity to write a big story, which calls for her to travel from New York to LA. Not that she is complaining, because that’s where Tia is. Being in LA is the easy part, being around Ryan York is the hard part. Flirting and clowning around with the guy she has been fantasizing about will be easy peasy, because that’s what they do when they are around each other, but keeping her hands, thoughts and lips to herself might become too difficult.

Ryan is not your settling down type. Serious isn’t something he’s looking for. Especially not in his line of work. Women who know he is the best friend and driver to the amazingly gorgeous movie star Eric Larsson, use him in order to get to Eric. So he is picky with who he lets into his life. Now letting women into his bed, or any bed, isn’t the problem. He doesn’t want commitment, so casual is all it can be and ever will be.

When the line of friendship gets crossed and the walls around a heart fall down, things become too real, too emotional, and too serious. Talking about feelings that were never supposed to be there, isn’t an option. So when you have no other option, you do the only thing you can do, keep on trucking. Move forward, don’t look back, and things won't be awkward.

Yea….ok…..so she thought.

I loved seeing more of these two. I loved them before and this just made me love them even more. I laughed through this whole book, because lets face it, this whole series has too much crazy in it. But its so fricking awesome. The ladies in this series are amazeballs and I cant wait to read more. Lol I can say that, because I now know there will be another book. I don’t know whose book it is, but I still can't wait.

I have loved what I have read from this author so far. I have already looked up some of her older work and added it to my TBR. I can't wait to see if her other books have the same amount of crazy or not. Lord I hope they do. 😊

4.5 "Ryan York is some kind of wonderful" Stars!!!

OMFG this book had me cackling like a hyena. You know exactly what you're getting yourself into when you pick up a rom com by T. Gephart. This book brought the funny as much as it brought the sweet and sexy. And boy did it bring the sexxxxxxy. A storyline that flowed seamlessly. Likable characters that just brought a smile to your face. #1 Player was a delicious piece of devils food cake with a scoop of ice cream, just scrumptious.

Lila is strong, sassy, self-assured and confident. She's also very hardworking. Wanting more from her job, she does what she can to further position herself for bigger and better. She's the type of heroine you can't help but love.

Ryan, uggggghhhh, Ryan had me all sorts of crazy! Good looks, sense of humor, flirtatious, and confident. His personality was off the charts magnetic. But Ryan has a reputation of being a player. Underneath the player though, Ryan is the most super nicest and good guy there is. And as his eyes set on Lila, he'll show her there's more to him than what she thinks.

I absolutely loved Lila and Ryan! The obvious gravitational pull they had for one another. The flirty back and forth they had was AH-MAZING. Ryan gave, but Lila gave it right back and then some. Ooooh, I just couldn't get enough of these two. I loved their wittiness as much as their sexiness. But what I loved the most was how they opened up to one another. It showed their vulnerability and that just added to their chemistry.

Never am I disappointed when reading a rom com by T. Gephart. She just knows how to write fantastic humor and swoon. And her characters are some of my favorites as well. If rom com is your jam, I definitely recommend giving this book a shot.

This is a funny, light read that has all the right moves. Lila and Ryan flirt, tease and steam their way through the novel right to the end.

Ryan is the man with the looks and personality to make it big in Hollywood. He has earnt the reputation of being a player. Like Lila, I was wary of Ryan at first. Could he really be a nice guy or is it all a play to get in Lila's pants?

Lila is a lead you can't help but love. She is strong, self-assured, sassy and flirtatious. I loved her confidence, but I also related to her insecurities. Even though on the outside she is ready for Ryan and his fast and furious love affair, she doubts herself and her strength to get all she wants from life.

I enjoyed the banter and one-liners that make all T. Gephart books great reads. The dialogue between the hero, heroine, the best friend and even the serious Newspaper editor boss, are realistic and amusing.

I would have liked more action or attention drawn to Ryan's life, family and profession; however this is a single POV story (Lila’s), so I understand this would be difficult to achieve within a single novel.

I look forward to #1 Rival, the next book in the series. I'm sure it will be another feel good, light hearted and easy to read story.

2.5 - No Angst, Incredibly Predictable, Inner Conflict - Stars

I had such high hopes for this book. I really enjoyed books 3 and 1 which I read previous to this one, respectively. They were both funny, hot, and a bit of angst. This book had two of those things going for it. It was a bit funny and hot but it lacked angst and really any conflict except internal. Seriously, this book could've been shorter (not that it was long) but a great deal shorter if Lila had just allowed Ryan to talk and not assume she knew what he was thinking.

Ryan is a player, never wants a serious girlfriend, but finally, Lila gives in (who doesn't do ONS) and thinks she can handle just being friends with benefits but of course, falls in love with Ryan. And when they have a moment at her mom's brothel (yep, brothel) she immediately overreacts and things go downhill for them.

Lila's assumptions are what left her unhappy for the last part of the book. If she'd just talked to Ryan it could've all been avoided.

“So, you’re just going to accept your version of events.” The surprise was gone, and in its place what sounded like . . . annoyance? My notes to myself on my Kindle: Yes! Get mad. She's making dumbass assumptions instead of letting you say what you feel. Or if what she thinks is the case, let you apologize. Annoying.

It wasn't a totally bad book, it just didn't give me what I wanted in my story, especially considering the other two books I've read in this series. I definitely expected more. Maybe that's why I waited so long to buy this book (not available at my library) because I had a feeling this one wouldn't give me the story I wanted. I need something more than internal conflict. No angst? Give me just a little, please.

If you want a book that is angst free and a cute couple, then this book is for you. They were pretty cute together and I liked their flirting but I needed more and unfortunately, didn't get it. :(

I was truly lucky to receive a paperback ARC copy of #1 Player and I freaking loved it!!! Ryan is sooo loveable. Super witty and smart with his remarks but completely adorable and the perfect amount of cocky. Lila was a great heroine of the story, I really enjoyed her and she was just as quick with the come backs. Their chemistry is HAWT!!! I basically smiled the whole reading it! Love your work T. Wowza! This was a fantastic read. My first by T. Gephart so I wasn't totally sure what to expect. #1 Player is LOADED with fun, flirty banter, witty lead characters and plenty of heat between the sheets.

Lila is my kinda chick. She's confident, beautiful and SUPER smart. She's worked hard to get where she is in life. She doesn't apologize for her successes and goes after what she wants. And she ACTUALLY knows what she wants - how refreshing!! Lila is fun, spunky, but she has her insecurities like all of us. She's super relatable - and I kinda have a girl crush ;)

Let's discuss the deliciousness that is Ryan York. I use both names, because it just rolls of my tongue in the most perfect way. THIS guy is a master at seduction in the most subtle ways. He's charming with a heart of gold, but his smile will melt your panties (GAHHHH I'm swooning over every page!!!). He's living life, free and wild, in Hollywood with his famous BF actor. How could he not be a player. However, the game has changed since Lila came to town to visit her best friend.

Reading Lila + Ryan together was such a special dynamic. She was really stepping outside her comfort zone to be with him, even if it was for a short time. Their chemistry was so effortlessly natural. They were organically meant to be together. It wasn't hard, there was no struggle (once they got out of their own way), so it was super fun to see this new layer of their relationship take shape; moving out of the friends with benefits zone into something real, even if they couldn't first see it themselves.

Bonus points too for the best friends! I'm definitely going back to read #1 Crush for Tia + Eric's story. I can image the fireworks!

So do yourself a major favor, READ #1 Player. It's fantastic, and you'll love it, I'm sure :)

3.5 stars!!!

#1 Player by Tina Gephart is not as ridiculously hilarious as #1 Crush, but I still enjoyed it!

I have been looking forward to getting to know Ryan York ever since I read about him in No. 1 Crush. He didn’t disappoint at all because his comedic timing is on point that had me chuckling the most. He’s not as crazy as I expected but still very entertaining. And it’s undeniable that there’s something charismatic and magnetic about him!

I will admit that I got to know Lila more than Ryan since this story was written only through her POV. Lila knows she’s confused, she acknowledges the fact that her hook ups with Ryan is not going to head up to serious-ville. She’s a woman with no pretenses and I loved these sides about her. A force to be reckoned with when it came down to elevating her career as well and I adored Ryan for helping her get there! Lila’s POV got a repetitive the first half but that didn’t bother me much.
This is a friends-with-benefits to lovers story. And if there’s one thing that kind of got me on a limbo with the development of this trope was the friendship aspect. I just needed a bit of a validation and a more solid past between these two to say that they were indeed friends before everything turned into something more. It felt they were just acquaintances which to me is far off from being real friends.

A little past the second half, the plot headed to a clearer direction and the tension and chemistry started to rise. The characters got to know each other better too. And Tina Gephart’s writing became more amusing and engaging. I am a glutton for conflicts surrounding around wrong assumptions, or “misplaced” feelings and I was so glad that No. 1 Player rallied on this. Romantic comedy with bits of heartache? Absolutely, this book had it!

#1 Player had undertones of #1 Crush. Slightly predictable but very sweet with all the gooey feels towards the end. Light read with a lot of flirting and of course scorching sexy times. Fans of Tia Monroe and Eric Larsson from #1 Crush will enjoy this second installment too. And I am excited to reconnect with and know more about this string of hot men!

One of my absolutely favorite authors! She takes ordinary characters and makes them exceptional! The main thing that stands out in her writing is the extremely, strong female characters!
Lila is a journalist for the New York Times. She has a huge man crush on the bodyguard that follows her best friend, Tia and her boyfriend, Eric around.
Ryan is a huge flirt. It is hard to tell his emotions at times, whether he is actually wanting to be with her long term or for fun.
When the banter heats up with these two, it is freaking hilarious what comes out of their mouths.
Each chapter holds your attention and will leave you begging for more. Ryan pulls through for the reader at the end!

Lila and Ryan both have confident personalities and this is prominent throughout the storyline. They just love walking that fine line between friends to lovers.

Lila needs a story for an article with the NY Times and her boss knows that she has connections with movies stars. However, Lila doesn't want to take of advantage of these connections but would love a holiday to see her bestie who also happens to spend a lot of time with Ryan. The hot undercover bodyguard who also has numerous connections that can help Lila with her article.

This obviously means their in each others pockets and things start to get extremely steamy. T. Gephart knows how to write a book that has copious amounts of humor and a strong female character.

This story was just so cute and I loved it and I don´t even know what to say.
Ryan is like the best guy ever and I was such a fan of him.
The banter between him and Lila was everything and made me smile so much.
It also had a really good reading flow and I enjoyed reading it so much that I didn´t even realize how fast I´ve read it.
The writing makes it super easy to get into the book and you can relate to the characters so easily.
This is just a fun and quick read that makes you smile a lot and also laugh out loud.

Lila is the normal(meaning the exact opposite of) bff of Tia, with a good chip on her shoulder. She is the grounded one. Meanwhile Ryan is the bff of Eric, the one who always guide and look after Eric so that she wont get into troubles/controversy. Ryan is the boy next door type who always joke about things but his heart is always on his sleeves. Figures this two will get their own story, they have some miscommunication along the way but eventually they were able to figure that they are right together.

#1 Player was quite boring because most of the time I felt annoyed with Lila.
Her salivating after Ryan's hot body and everything was not funny but something I sighed and rolled my eyes constantly. The story was not as fun as #Crush and the plot was lackluster, the whole thing was just not that funny. Overall it was ok in term of writing but It should include Ryan's pov and since it didn't it was down another star.

This book started out as super cute. An easy light read with likeable characters. But the whole “misunderstanding” was way too manufactured and unbelievable. Didn’t flow smoothly and wasn’t believable. It turned Lila into a completely different character that made her odd and hard to read. Totally turned me off because the story just fell apart and disintegrated.

Once again another great light hearted funny read from T. Lila was a hoot in #1 Crush and she brought it home in #1 Player. Ryan was just as smooth and sexy as he was in book 1.
It was great to be reunited with Tia and all her quirks and wackiness; and who can forget Eric **sigh**
