A recovering alcoholic, Jake Inman has found a new, healthier addiction: training for his successful triathlon career. But when his manager is murdered and beloved goddaughter kidnapped, another obsession takes hold: doing whatever it takes to find Brandon’s killer and keep Amy safe. Jake turns to a private investigator for help in solving the case, and though he finds temptation in her whiskey-colored eyes, he knows he must resist his attraction, or risk losing his heart.

After a devastating case, Winona Wall has turned her back on her skills as a private investigator, preferring a quiet life as a part-time bartender. That is, until Jake storms into the bar, demanding her help in tracking his missing godchild. Unable to resist Jake’s charm, she reluctantly agrees. But even after Amy is found unharmed, Jake insists Amy’s mother was more involved with her kidnapping than the police suspect. When the situation takes a turn for the worse, Winona must trust her instincts in order to save them all—and avoid falling in love.

Angela Smith is a Texas native who, years ago, was dubbed most likely to write a novel during her senior year in high school. She always had her nose stuck in a book, even hiding them behind her textbooks during school study time. Her dream began at a young age when her sister started reciting 'Brer Rabbit' after their mom read it to them so often. She told her mom she'd write a story one day and never gave up on that dream even though her mom was never able to see it come to fruition. By day, she works as a certified paralegal and office manager at her local District Attorney's office and spends her free time with her husband, their pets, and their many hobbies. Although life in general keeps her very busy, her passion for writing and getting the stories out of her head tends to make her restless if she isn't following what some people call her destiny.

Final Mend starts when Jake, who is training for a Triathlon finds out that Brandon his cousin has been found dead and his daughter Amy has been kidnapped. Jake is devastated as Brandon was like his brother, while Amy is his goddaughter is the light in his life.
After finding out nothing helpful from the local police, Jake decides to hire the best PI he can find. This is where Winona a retired Pi comes in to play.
This book has many twist and turns which keep you on your toes. Some I saw coming, but that didn’t spoil it for me. This is very character driven and we have quite a collection.
I also realise most of Winona friends and family have had their own stories in other books, but that doesn’t stop you reading this as a standalone. Jake is a recovering alcoholic, and drug user in his younger years, but cleaned up his act with the help and encouragement from Brandon. Jake is now a famous sportsman who is seen as poster boy for staying sober for 8 years and tries to set an example to help others. I loved Jake and Winona as a couple their relationship seemed very real to me.
As this book has mystery, suspense and romance, so I think I will let you buy the book and find out for yourself.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Angela Smith has an amazing way with words. Once I started Final Mend I could not put it down. I was pulled in by the characters and their reactions, good and bad, to each other. The feelings were obvious to the reader and I could not wait to learn more about Jake and Winona.

Winona had a history that she had just put on the back burner and tried to forget about. When Jake approaches her to help him, he pulls up those memories that she had tried to forget. It was sometimes hard to watch her fight what she knew was right and what she was trying to forget. As she started to investigate more and more into the disappearance of Amy and the death of Brandon, her feelings grew deeper and deeper for Jake and the sparks flew. The chemistry between these two is fun to watch unfold. I kept hoping for a happy ending for them.

Final Mend is a story that kept me up all night having to read and was still on my mind when I finished the story. I will certainly recommend it to my friends, family, and anyone else who asks about books to read.

This is the first book I have read by author Angela Smith so I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I started the book. I loved how the author showcased the emotional struggles Jake & Winona have to deal with throughout the story. Both of them have hurts and haunts in their pasts that affect their day to day lives. How they came together wasn’t under the best circumstances, but they managed to stick together & their affection for each other grew. I loved Winona’s character – she is a confident woman and she doesn’t let anyone walk all over her. Jake had a tendency to put his foot in his mouth with her but she didn’t take it lying down.

This is a romance suspense novel that had my emotions all over the place; There were so many sad moments while reading this book – I can’t even begin to imagine how it would feel for your cousin or niece to be kidnapped. I laughed whenever the whole gang was together & I swooned whenever Jake & Winona had their sweet moments. I liked the suspense aspect as well; it kept building and building right up until the end. It started out with a bang & continued on right to the end of the book. I really enjoyed it and now may have to look into other books by this author.

Hmmm, I'd actually rate the book 4.6 if that was possible. I liked all the characters - Jake, Amy, Chayton, Naomi, Reagan and the rest; even Lillian had pretty good character development.

Though the book was not really suspenseful, it did keep my interest and keep me reading. I think I found myself more curious than actually 'in suspense'. Ms. Smith is a really good author and I think it was more her writing style and excellent use of imagery that contributed more to my enjoyment of this book.

I would not hesitate to read more of this author's works and would recommend this book to anyone who likes romances that have other elements to them and are not solely the 'boy meets girl, falls in love' fare.

I added this to my TBR list late last year and, while I didn't actually make it to 'Final Mend' until a handful of days ago, it was totally worth the add! In fact, I'm kind of sad I didn't read this sooner. Angela Smith is one hell of a wordsmith, painting a picture that kept me up an entire night so that I could finish the book. Final Mend is a well-written read that is well worth the time. Romantic, suspenseful, and engaging - this book has the recipe for a fun night in with the imagination! ;)

Dive into a a Romantic Suspense with Angela Smith. She has created a novel that really makes the reader think and feel. This novel shows how much a writer can understand her genre and make sure every in and out is relevant to her end game.

I loved the balance of Romance and Drama in this novel. There is a lot going on and the characters have a lot they have to get through while trying to understand their budding relationship and fight for it. It is a solid Romantic Suspense.

Final Mend is the story of Jake, a recovering alcohol who has now a successful triathlon career. But everything changes the day that his cousin and only family left is mysteriously murdered and her 7-year-old goddaughter Amy goes missing.
Then Jake looks for Wionna and beg for her help in order to find Amy.
Wionna is a retired private investigator with a dramatic past. She's now a half-time bartender and volunteers in the animal refugee in the little town she lives in with her newly found long lost brother.
Then Jake arrives and messes with Wionna's world. He would do anything to find little Amy. Jake suspects Amy's mother Lillian has something to do with her kidnap but nobody believes him so he hired Wionna to investigate her.

And that's how everything starts. It's a short book but still I felt like I was reading it very slowly, I couldn't progress a lot, had to take some rest or so.
Anyway, Wionna is a strong independent woman and i liked her as a character even though we don't get to see her abilities as a private investigator, since she's retired I can understand that but I was hoping she would fin out more stuff or so, she wasn't very useful in that way.
I liked Jake, he was willing to fight for what he wanted, and that was his little goddaughter Amy, the only persona he cared about after Brandon's (his best friend) death.
The other characters were also nice, but I felt like they missed something. I like Chayton even though he wasn't in many scenes and I really liked Garret. They all missed a bit of personality, I often confused Regean and Naomi.
Anyway, it was an entertaining book with a good story even if it was a bit predictable. Not a lot of crime and mystery, but more drama and love. It was a nice reading and I have nothing else to say.

The book was good. It was well-written and I do like the author's use of scenery description. The story, however entertaining, fell a little flat. Though it was a nice, light read, most of the book was uneventful and predictable. The characters were likable, so that's a plus.
Overall, since the author does have an entertaining writing style, I would like to find more of her works and see if they aren't a bit more suspenseful. I would rate this one 4 stars. This book was obtained from Goodreads.
