RACHEL AUKES writes horror stories, and as BERINN RAE she writes sci-fi romance and paranormal romance. Rachel was raised on a farm in Iowa where she boasted the small town’s largest (and only) comic book collection, and she's still addicted to stories starring characters with kickassitude. When not writing, Rachel flies old airplanes in the American Midwest with her awesomely supportive husband and caters to an incredibly spoiled sixty-pound lap dog.
My lovelies, you know how much I love my romances. And I have to say I find it particularly exciting to read a romance about a couple that are hated enemies. Being on opposing sides of a battle and victim of circumstances totally outside your control just adds a certain element of tension and drama that isn’t there in some romances. Doesn’t the added insurmountable obstacle of war instead of someone’s internal issues really make for a more riveting story sometimes? Whatever it is, it sure worked well in this novel and I found myself completely engaged in this love story and thoroughly entertained from beginning to end.
Implosion is a sci-fi romance built around the history of two enemy races, the Sephians and the Draeken, who are living here on Earth. The Draeken were drawn to Earth given their uncanny similarity to human DNA and have been living here for some time, without human alliance. A supernova destroyed their own planet, Draeka, centuries ago. Afterwards, they enslaved the planet of Sephia, and their people, and took it as their own. An uprising of the Sephian people after centuries of slavery caused the Draeken to flee the planet. A small number of Sephians chased them with orders to find and kill the last of their enemy before returning home. However, the Sephians have lost power to get back to their planet and have lived here under a very uneasy truce with humans.
Picking up about a year after the first in the trilogy left off, Implosion tells the story of Roden and Nalea. And what a story it is. Twists and turns, surprises and shockers. Theirs is a tale of lust, betrayal, and love in the most impossible of situations.
It’s hard to go into much detail about their situation without giving away major spoilers for Book #1 Collision … and I highly suggest you read that one first … so what I can say is that this couple is now among my favorites. Like Cat and Bones good. If you don’t know whom I’m talking about, then you mustn’t read much paranormal romance. Yes, I liked their chemistry that much. I know this was their ‘book’, however, I would love to see these two have a whole series of their own adventures. They could pull it off.
Roden, is the ultimate bad boy hero. He is so badass, everyone loves to hate him or they live in fear of him. But at the same time, he is such a good leader that those closest to him will follow him to death. On the surface, his methods are so seemingly harsh that everyone hates him. But once things are revealed, you think, ahh I see now why he had to do that and perhaps he isn’t so bad. Plus, at almost 7 ft. tall, longhaired, winged and owning other enticing attributes and skills *wink*, a lot can be forgiven.
From Roden himself… “…he’d craved-no, needed-this woman to find him redeemable. Though he often suspected that there was nothing left to redeem. He’d crossed that line too long ago.” There it is, my lovelies, the tortured soul we all love and want to fix. Our weakness.
Nalea, the heroine, is surely one of the coolest heroines I’ve met. Her story was a complete surprise. She’s one of those people that can say more with a stare or a few well chosen words than most can say blabbering on for hours. Smart, decisive, brave and full of kickassitude (Berinn’s word), Nalea is awesome! I rooted for her (and them) all the way. ________________________________________ Bottom Line ________________________________________ Overall, this is a good read and my favorite in the trilogy so far. I’m particularly fond of the world building and the sci-fi element is a treat. And if you’ve read any of Berinn Rae’s other works, you know she’s very skilled in bringing the heat to the romance side of things. I enjoyed it, highly recommend it and can’t wait for Book #3, Explosion, to be released later this year.

Implosion, the second book in Berinn Rae's Colliding Worlds trilogy, is even better than the first book! I was riveted from start to finish with the characters and the action.
Implosion is the story of Nalea's kidnapping by Roden that readers witnessed in Collision. Nalea's secret that is alluded to in Collision comes out in Implosion - and boy is it a doozy! Nalea remains the kick-ass Sephian I enjoyed in the first book but she becomes more well-rounded and gets a new depth as the lead character in Implosion. Her emotions and reactions were so human that I forgot that she was a Sephian several times!
I honestly wasn't sure what to think of Roden - even after Implosion ended. One minute, I'm cheering for him and wanting him to win thinking he's the "hero" and the next I'm wanting someone to kill him off because he seems like the "bad guy"! His actions, plotting, and maneuvering all made perfect sense but at the same time, left me seeing him very ambivalently. There's one scene - and I won't spoil it - where his rationalizations were much like those of a serial killer. And yet, you can see how Nalea could love him. That's the dichotomy that is Roden and I suspect not many authors would be able to do such a great job writing such a flawed character.
Much like in Collision, the action in Implosion is fast and furious throughout much of the book. It flows well and the vivid descriptions of battles and their aftermath are sometimes a little too vivid.
Several questions remain after Implosion that I'm hoping are answered in book three, Explosion. I'm looking forward to Jax's story and hope we get to see more of his friend Ace as well! If you enjoy paranormal romance, I definitely recommend Rae's Colliding World's trilogy but you need to read them in order or it might be confusing.
Earthlings are no longer alone. The Sephian’s and the Draeken’s have left their home planet and brought their war to Earth. That sounds beyond simple. In all actuality it is far more complex and the layers of absurd tradition and malicious betrayal are slowly being revealed.
This is definitely a series to read in order. In the previous book Collision Nalea is captured by the Draeken. There are many reasons as to why her capture in beneficial to the Draeken. Nalea has an important position among the Sephian. Her capture is a definite strike against the Sephian. Roden is so much more than what he initially presents himself as. He is a schemer, but it is never how it seems on the surface. Nalea also had some secrets that while she may have wanted to keep hidden they will prove beneficial in the near future.
Roden and Nalea’s romance didn’t work for me. I know the tahren is what brought them together. I like the bond between the couples that the tahren creates. The connection of emotions and feelings, it’s rather sexy. Roden and Nalea had started off on such bad terms I had a difficult feeling the other reasons for them to be together.
Up to this point the focus has been on the alien life forms that have relocated to Earth without permission. They have their struggles that they brought to Earth. The Noble War is over for the most part. One race was forced to find a new home, the victor decided to eradicate the other race. The relocation to Earth brings another player to the field. I am so curious where Berinn will take that possibility. There are so many places that could go.
What can I say? I am a sucker for anything Berinn Rae writes. Yes she does romance, but is it all in your face, graphic romance. No. Is it good steam, but just the right amount? Yes. Man, she really brings you into the story with her writing style, and then you hit the steamy scenes, and man o man, you feel like you are right there in the action.
When I had read Collision, the first book in the series, I was a little hesitant. I am not a fan of aliens that look like humans. However, Berinn won me over with her Sephians. And after playing around with graphics for her characters, I can really picture them now and see the difference. In Implosion, we aren't dealing with a bunch of Sephians though. Mainly just one, but it is about the other aliens, the Draken. Now, these aliens do look like humans, but with one big difference. They have wings. That is alien enough for me! Skin wings on a person, yup alien!
I was really anticipating this book. Since the ending of the last one, I had to know what Nalea was hiding and why Roden was oh so happy to have taken her as a prisoner. There are many different twist and turns that I did not see happening with these characters but it added a lot to the story and made a lot of their back stories all come together. I tell you, book 1, I did not like Roden at all. Book 2, LOVE HIM. Why? You need to read it!!
Great great job Berinn, this is a series I would totally recommend you pick up. It is a great romance series, but there is a great and inciting story with it as well!! Cannot wait for book #3!!

This is my second book by Rachel Aukes, and - unsurprisingly - the second in the Colliding Worlds trilogy.
This focuses initially on Nalea, a Sephian, being held in a prison cell. She hates the Draeken, but Roden Zyll, the Lord Commander, is the Draeken she hates with all her heart and soul. There's twists to relationships in here, but I don't like spoiling things for other readers. Suffice it to say your eyes will be opened wide.
The action between these pages is very good and keeps the reader turning the pages. The twists and turns are so sweet they're almost decay-inducing. I love that the women are strong-willed and intelligent, just like some real women are, regardless of where they come from.
I was given an ecopy which I voluntarily read and honestly reviewed. Any opinions are my own.

This was a pretty good sequel. It moved on to a new characters story but kept going with the broad plotline from the first book.
I thought the romance aspect of this one was more believable than the first book. I also found the two main characters more interesting than those from the first book.
Overall this was a much better book and look forward to the third one.
I am a new Rachel Aukes groupie. Two weeks ago on a business trip, I binge read her 3 Fringe Series books. I enjoyed them so much I had a difficult time waiting for the start of the Colliding Worlds Trilogy. Rachel’s writing is exciting, easy to follow, addictive and well edited. Heroes are flawed, bad guys are sometimes difficult to determine – suspense and plot twists, and there is enough humor to make it all fun. It also is not predictable, which I really appreciate because I read a lot… In this book, The war between the alien races becomes less important as the back stories are developed and motivations are revealed. Some bad guys become less bad and some good guys... well, read the book and find out. Of course the answers are not as clear cut as one would think. There is action and intrigue. There might even be a budding romance or two. The book is a quick read. At about 200 pages I was able to buzz through it in a day. The whole series can be read in a long weekend if you read quickly. It will hold your attention. I think the book is 99 cents so you can't go wrong with it. I read 70+ books a year and have been for the last several years. I tend to only review the books I really like, that I would recommend to others.
Book 1 of the Colliding Worlds Trilogy was about the earthling Sienna who meets a Sephian space alien when he crashes to earth. Upon his landing he is met by his arch enemy, a Draeken alien. Needless to say, Sienna gets involved not just with this alien but immersed in his lifestyle.
In Book 2 it’s all about the arch enemy Draeken alien, Roden and his Sephian prisoner, Nalea. She has a secret that could very well bring these 2 warring alien factions together. And toss in the humans, and well...anything can happen.
What I loved most about this book is the relationship between Roden and Nalea. Draeken and Sephian are like oil and water, lol. It’s evident that it’s Roden that is smitten with Nalea. Since she is Sephian and was captured by the enemy Draekens, she thwarts off all his advances. It’s comical in a way since Roden seems not to be too bothered by her rebuttals, in fact it only builds up his confidence although she does get in some good verbal and physical jabs that sometimes sets his ego back a smidgen.
This book has a lot of action and undercover. In fact there is a big reveal, to me it was a wow factor that I didn’t see coming. But it made sense after I thought about it. All in all, this book has everything I love in a story. It’s well written with interesting characters, lots of action with some romance thrown in and a plot that hold my interest.
I am anxiously awaiting the 3rd book which is coming out very soon, although not soon enough. Suvaste! Fyet! I want it now!
Implosion: Part 2 of the Colliding Worlds Trilogy, is the best alien romance I’ve read so far. As you might imagine, these aliens aren’t of the scary looking variety.
Nalea, the female half of the couple, is a strong feminine character who is completely comfortable in her action role as part of Sienna’s trinity (from Collision: Part 1 of the Colliding Worlds Trilogy). Roden, her mate, also holds a high military rank with his people and the role fits him well. There is a lot more to both characters than you see in the first book, where both characters debuted. Theirs is an interracial romantic love because Nalea is Sephian and Roden is Draeken, and yet they are both transplants because they are on earth. Maybe you can already see why the book was so enjoyable based on the challenges I mentioned. There are many more that I didn’t mention because I wouldn’t want to take away from your enjoyment of the story.
The highlights of Implosion are intrigue, interesting alien characteristics, interesting alien technology, and the romance between Nalea and Roden.
I loved their story, and went on the read the final book in the trilogy which featured a different couple. That review is coming in the future.
Do you need to read all the books for them to make sense? Perhaps not, but you will get a lot more out of the stories if you read them all, and in order.
When you’re in the mood for a Sci-Fi romance, give Implosion a try. I think you’ll like it.

I started out really enjoying this series. The first book was well written, the storyline had me hooked and I was eager to read more about this world however, the second book left me feeling somewhat unfulfilled and sadly, so did the third. They both seemed to be quite rushed, like the author was bored and wanted to get on with something more entertaining, so did the absolute minimum to finish the series. However this one did seem to have a bit more depth to it than the third and didn't leave me feeling like I had missed quite as much.
I still enjoyed the stories in both books but would definitely have liked them to be a bit more fleshed out, much like the first was.
The second book in the Colliding Worlds Trilogy by Berinn Rae. Sephian Nalea was captured by Roden Zyll in the previous book Collision. Nalea and Roden reach a truce of sorts and agree to work together towards a common goal. But things don't always go according to plan.
I guess I liked it slightly more than the previous book but I had issues with the route the author took us at times. It doesn't mean I won't read this author again. The style of writing was easy and entertaining. Not a lot of filler or lags in the story.
Development of peaceful intentions between Earth and just-settled alien warring factions really possible? Well, it appears that this has been worked out effectively by the author, but hints as possible problems for all three parties! This situation hints as matters to be settled in the future. I found this as a clever way to lead to the next book. I found this to be a very interesting way for further development in the story.
