Desolation.exe

Rate this book
Desolation.exe can be described as Neo-Gekiga. Its stories of dramatic realism refer to urban, post-industrial anguish from the Western world of the 21st century. Berliac focuses on that which escapes through the cracks of economic and social wealth: the alienation of labor, obsession with superficial pleasures, and human isolation, warning us that the possible forms of happiness are not universal.

A ver oh està ben.

Story-driven, pastiche-attempt to acquire the Japanese comic or Manga style and its mannerisms. Unfortunately clunky, work in progress.

Except for the story, the art and setting feels fake. Like reading a manga by a person who is disconnected from the culture, merely copying its beats. The artist's hand shows, and that may be the biggest sin. Maybe Berliac needed more freedom of expression back then, more tinkering in form and nuance.
