A Canadian West Coast baby born and raised, Whitley is married to her high school sweetheart and together they have two beautiful daughters and a fluffy dog. She spends her days making food that gets thrown on the floor, vacuuming Cheerios out from under the couch and making sure that the dog food doesn't end up in the air conditioner. But when the kids are at school and it's not quite wine o'clock, Whitley sits down, avoids the pile of laundry on the couch, and writes.

A lover of all things decadent; wine, cheese, chocolate and spicy erotic romance, Whitley brings the humorous side of sex, the ridiculous side of relationships and the suspense of everyday life into her stories. With single dads, firefighters, Navy SEALs, mommy wars, body issues, threesomes, bondage and role-playing, Whitley’s books have all the funny and fabulously filthy words you could hope for.

I began the Dark and Damaged Hearts series by reading Parts 1 and 2 of Love, Passion, and Power, Justin and Kendra's story. Throughout their books, we were afforded a glimpse of this handsome, slightly grumpy, and rather reserved individual named James Shaw. He intrigued me right away with his brooding ways. I love the broody ones! I just knew he had an interesting story to tell and that I needed to read it. When I found out he was the hero of Sex, Heat, and Hunger, I was sold!

Before I began this book, I may or may not have uttered the words, "James, baby, here I come!" I say that to illustrate the level of excitement I had going into this book. However, I knew that I was also going to have to meet a female along the way that would acquire his affection, and I hoped I would like her as much as I knew I was going to like James. It would have been a total bummer to read James' story and think his girl was a bitch unworthy of him. It turns out that I shouldn't have worried. Emma Everly makes my boy, James happy on a level that I have never seen him, and she gets a gold star for that in my book!

James and Emma were magnetically attracted to each other at their first accidental meeting, but neither of them could have anticipated how serious the both of them would begin to feel for each other. I certainly didn't expect James to go so quickly from just wanting a sex based arrangement to a full on relationship, especially with everything I had seen of him in previous books. They fall for each other hard and fast, and I fell right along with them. The problem with relationships that move along at such a speed is that at some point each other's faults and baggage from previous relationships seem to crash into it with brutal force shattering the bubble around the happy couple. Will James and Emma's love be one that stands the test of time, or will it fizzle out as quickly as it began?

Sex, Heat, and Hunger, Part 1 is very much the story of the beginning of a relationship. I loved the tiny touches the author added into this book that made it seem more like a "real" relationship and not some unrealistic, fairytale bullshit. Once you read the book, you'll know what I mean. We observe Emma and James through their first meeting/date, their first fight, and everything in between. As they learn more about each other, so do we. This installment seemed to be building a solid foundation for their love, and I am thinking the next will be when we see it tested.

Part 1 focuses a lot on Emma's insecurities, background, and fears that plague her due to past experiences, but we don't get the same in depth look into James. We know something is there, but not the whole story. I expect we will discover all of that in Part 2 as well, and I can't wait! I'm predicting it will be much more emotional, so I'm trying to prepare myself. Whitley, you better not hurt my James too badly, or your dm is going to be flooded with angry messages from yours truly. Lol

Now that I'm done threatening you, I would like to applaud you for including the part where Emma explains the necessity of urinating after sex. I have never seen a romance novel discuss this issue before. I wanted to high five you when I read it. Whitley Cox, keeps it real... educating while entertaining, folks!

Bottomline, I enjoyed the first act of James and Emma's story, and I have high hopes for the second! Contemporary romance fans, this one's for you! P.S. I'm diving straight into book 2 when I'm finished with this review, so wish me luck!

I received an ARC of this and have volunteered to give an honest review. James meets Emma at a pub one night and is instantly taken with her. The next day he puts an offer to her of an arrangement that will be mainly about sex but with no expectations of a future as James has no time to date. Both characters have issues from the past which throw hurdles up at every corner for them to try and jump over. This book has you on an emotional roller coaster from the start to the finish. You will reach the heights with the love and passion that these two develop very quickly for each other. Your heart will soar as James grows as a person as he discovers how deep his love is for Emma and that he wants more than his original arrangement. However your heart will break and have your anxiety levels at an all time high as they allow their pasts to influence the present. This book has a little bit of everything to keep you intrigued and the sex scenes are sizzling hot. It also has some hilarious moments that will make you laugh and smile. Bring on book two as I have so many questions I need answered.

I was given this as an ARC by Whitley. I voluntarily decided to review the book. This is my honest review.
Omg yet again Whitley has blown me away with this book. She writes with such emotion putting everything she has into a book. Yet again I was hooked and couldn't put it down from the first page. I had to know what happened to both James and Emma. James is a character from previous books in the series and I love the way she brings him into this book. He's always been so cold, aloof and sad looking. I wasn't sure what to expect and boy did Whitley knock this one out of the park with her portrayal of James and Emma. I was an emotional wreak reading this book feeling such a connection to Emma's past life and knowing what she has gone through.
Yet again I was crying through a few parts in this book. Whitley always does such a good job of showing the emotions of the characters through her words, explaining what they have been through and how they dealt with it, how they are still coping with it everyday second guessing their emotional reaction to a situation.
Emma has had a hard past and finds it hard to deal with affection not truly believing that she's beautiful. James has his own issues but won't say what or why which leaves Emma confused after she'd bared her soul to him. Everyone can't believe that miserable James has turned into happy James now Emma is around but why was he miserable? Emma wants to know why he was so unhappy all the time.
Whitley brings back other characters from the series into the book which is great seeing how they are getting on in their life. You feel part of it all because the emotion in the book that connects you. I've loved every book by Whitley and this book doesn't disappoint I just wish my review could do it justice, but without telling everything about it I can't!
It's a great romance and love story with some really hot sexy scenes wrapped into it so cleverly making it fit so well together. This is another book I will read again especially when a new book is coming out so I have a refresher with the characters and their storyline.
In this book James and Emma are learning about each other, what they feel, how they deal with things and what makes them tick. The insight into them is amazing and Whitley steps it up another level with this book. Every book I think she can't make them any better but boy does she prove me wrong. She's one of my favourite authors because of her way with words and how she has perfected art of describing emotions and feelings, being able bring those feelings out in the reader as well. Her heart and soul goes into these books and you can tell it from the start right through to the finish. They are perfect in every way.

I was excited to read about "James" having met him in the prior two books of The Dark and Damaged Hearts Series releases. (You do not need to read Books 1 & 2 of the series to follow this story.) And I was surprised. I like that although I was going to read about a character I had already begun to form opinions about, this tale kept me guessing about his thoughts and motives since it is told from Emma's point of view. Nevertheless, I hungrily devoured this book and am excited to find out how this couple resolves the issues at hand in the next installment.

Oh, my gosh! Whitley Cox has done it again! Sex, Heat, and Hunger is raw with passion and intense with love. This book really toyed with my emotions. James is still the dark, brooding, sullen man. Sometimes his jealousy gets in the way and he has a hard time expressing his feelings. Emma is a sweet but damaged woman who is still struggling with the aftermath of a previous abusive relationship. James and Emma go back and forth, which makes for some great sex, heat, and hunger. I can't wait for Part Two!

***I received an ARC copy of Sex, and Hunger: Part 1 from Whitley Cox. My review is completely voluntary..***

When James Shaw and Emma Everly meet for the first time, neither are in the mood for the company of a complete stranger; however a natural chemistry and strong attraction leads them to a long evening of shared conversation. James makes his intentions toward Emma very clear; he purposes a no strings relationship and Emma agrees to his terms. There are many emotional rollercoaster moments as both individuals are strong, independent, straightforward, and battling to overcome their own past pains.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the very beginning and cannot wait to finish this story in Sex, Heat, and Hunger: Part 2!

James meet Emma one drunken night (for him) when he got lucky that her friend was sick and couldn't make it. He knew she was special even then. But what started at as a sex only relationship quickly turned much more serious.

We meet James' family and what great fun his sister Amy is. Too bad his mom is not at all okay with Emma. But while she is negative it adds a nice mix to the story and adds that little bit of drama.

Emma has a really hard past with her ex Tom. I love that she is a spitfire and I love that she stands up for what is important to her and won't let James just have his way. James' past though is still mostly a secret, and whenever Emma does bring it up he changes the subject. I am really hoping Part 2 really brings that out.

Holy cow, Whitley Cox has done it again with her latest release! The realism with which she creates her characters is exceptional and evokes a rollercoaster of emotions while reading. From page one, I was hooked and loving the banter between James and Emma. We met James in the previous books and now he is getting his own story to tell. James is a man who comes off as aloof and controlling but he is dealing with some major issues. To help him cope, he winds up in a bar and meets Emma who is waiting for a friend that never shows up. Emma has had a challenging past with her looks and body issues made all the more prevalent due to her abusive ex-boyfriend. Emma is the Yin to James’ Yang but like all couples, they are not without their own problems. This book is a great love story chronicling the ups and downs that couples endure from learning about one another to dealing with the relatives. There are not enough words to eloquently express how to do this book justice. You just have to pick it up and read it for yourself. I cannot wait for the continuation of this story as Ms. Cox keeps exceeding my expectations with her books.
I volunteered to read an arc for a review.

Another wonderful love story, lots of little twists and turns and a lot of realism not found in a lot of romance story's. it was fun and sweet and also a little dark and miserable in others just like in real life.
Although this is technically the 3rd book in the series you can read 3 & 4 before 1 & 2 if you want.
If you enjoy a romance that keeps you wanting to know more, than this book is for you. I cant wait to read part 2.

This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. It was really good. Emma and James are both looking for a no strings, sex only arrangement. Will they be able to keep that commitment to themselves or will real feelings develop? Emma and James were great together and had wonderful chemistry. I can’t wait for part two.

When James stumbles into a bar on the one night a year he struggles with he meets Emma Everly, where they have a drink and get to know on another. When Emma´s phone rings the next day she is surprised to see James calling her, when he asks to have dinner with her she didn´t think he would be asking her to have a sex only with no commitment. As they journey a long they discover they have so much passion for each other that it starts to develop into love. When Emma tells James about her past he keeps himself closed off not letting her in. what will happen when James starts to get jealous and controlling Emma reminds him she will not stand for it. Once both confess there love can James open his heart fully to Emma will he let her in and share his past with her. I couldn´t put this book down had me from page one till the end can´t wait for part 2. Whitley Cox writes amazing books.

Great read from this author, can't wait for more!, March 29, 2017

I received an Advance Reader Copy of Sex, Heat And Hunger: Part One written by Whitley Cox and voluntarily reviewed this book. James Shaw was undeniably drunk the evening he met Emma Everly while sitting at the bar, with the sole intention of continuing in the same manner the rest of the evening. However, Emma was so riveting once he set eyes on her, she managed to pull him out of his stupor long enough to actually have a meaningful conversation, and they end up meeting for lunch the next day. Not a man to mince his words, he boldly asks her for an arrangement of convenience, but that she couldn't expect much else more from him but that.

This is the first installment in this series as well as the first book I have read from this author. Their rapport, sexual chemistry, and utterly open and frank discussions and questions to each other had me reacting by either laughing out loud or reduced me to cringing, especially when Emma explained her relationship history. We watch and wait while they slowly realize that they cannot do without the other, but how their present lives are so complicated when it comes to incorporating their pasts into into it. Great read and sexy couple!

Emma and James are just looking for sex and no commitment. What they end up with us passion and chemistry that leads them both with declarations of love. But can their new love get past the demons of their pasts? Emma explains her past to James, but he remains closed off about his. I was locked in from the first few pages and cannot wait for the next book in the series to see if this couple has a future.

“I’d love nothing more than to invite you in and ravish your body until breakfast, but you said you have a gym class in the morning, and if you stayed over you wouldn’t get there on time, I’d make sure of it. And…” He nipped my earlobe, making my whole body convulse. “… you, Emma, why you’re more than a one-night stand.” -James Shaw

Sex, heat, and hunger was my first read by Author Whitley Cox and this book had me intrigued by the very first chapters and I was so excited to meet the typical one night stands asshole, and no strings attached kind of hero and the author did a great job at it. He does realize she's more than a one night stand kind of girl very fast and he decided to go against the odds of a disaster than the happily ever after but he was not taking a no for an answer.

I met James in Love, Passion, and power in the first chapters and I can honestly say that there are so many mysterious people in the world but James Shaw beats them. Being the mysterious, broody, asshole and oh so hot hero that he is, I adored him. But being so mysterious can be so easy yet so difficult. He's fighting so many secrets that he can't yet reveal. Love has a way of changing us and Emma is a great input in James life he well deserves to be happy. James is trying so hard to keep his control in check and try to give Emma the apace and trust she needs which proofs a difficult task for him. His relationship with Emma went from a one night to several in a matter of seconds. But can this relationship survive the unexpectable?

“I’m a busy man. I don’t have time for games. When I see something I want, I go for it. And I want you.” -James Shaw

Emma is a wild thing, I love how carefree she is and her personality makes me smile so much! Although she's beautiful and sassy shes also self-conscious due to a stupid ex that fucked with her head and sensuality. Ugh! I hate that guy lol but thanks to two hot guys she spiked up her love life and made herself an exquisite sexy woman. I love her character and how she handles James she knows when to make him smile and when to make him horny. Their relationship is beautiful, is real and is raw it has so many open wounds that need to be sealed to be able to proceed to have an HEA. Emma is strong-minded, beautiful and a smart heroine that knows what she wants and she wants this relationship to work out but, will it be too much for Emma?

“I’m over all that now. But I need you to understand where my head is. I’ll never betray you, but honestly, I like the attention… most of the time.” -Emma

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and I truly recommend you to read it! You'll laugh, learn new words (wink wink) Emma is an English teacher haha, swoon, cursed, shake your head, love a mysterious broody asshole and overall you'll fall in love with a beautiful couple that is still learning new things about themselves and each other. This book is mostly about Emma and James love story starting to blossom and I hope the second book is where I see all of the angst and secrets of the one and only James Shaw.

“I appreciate your effort and willingness to change. But change because you want to, not because I’m making you.” “I’ll change anything and everything to keep you, Emma" -James Shaw

I voluntarily read an arc of this book provided via Booksprout for a fair and honest review. This book picks up right after St. Patrick’s Day when both Emma and James professed their love of one another. James is traveling to Seattle for business and Emma, although she will miss him, is looking forward to downtime. It was really helpful for me as I had already read Love, Passion and Power: Part 1 (The Dark and Damaged Hearts Series) so I was acquainted with Kendra and Justin. Although I did not Part 2 Of Kendra and Justin’s story...Kendra came off kinda skanky in this book. If a reader doesn’t know her history they might not understand the couple. There were times I thought Emma emasculated James. And she always ran. How many times did she make James go after her...and he always did. I know she had self esteem issues but how many times/ways did James have to prove how much he loved her. And I also believe she was totally up for a foursome when Max and Alex showed up in Canada, which would have been hypocritical because of her history with Tom. James has made such a 180 from the character he was in Justin and Kendra’s books..i read their story a few months ago and it took me a bit to make the connection with that James and this James. Although, as I wrote earlier I didn’t read part 2 Of Justin and Kendra’s book. But having said all that, I ultimately became invested in these characters and don’t want to let them go.

A story about Emma and James. James goes to a pub one night, where he meets Emma. It is instant attraction. Both characters has issues from the past which they have to struggle with.
This story has it all; drama, passion, love, lust, suspense, intrigues, past issues, heartbreak, twists and lots of emotional ups and downs.
The chemistry and attraction between the main characters are well described and the steamy scenes are well written. I like the story line and it could be happening in real life. People often do let their past rule in their present. The characters develops well during the story.
Enjoyable and I like the romance.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. In the previous book the reader heard James and Emma declare their love for one another and, in this one, Whitley Cox, has them exploring their relationship in more depth. Whitley's writing is addictive so that you just don't want to stop to say put the kettle on or go out for the night as I almost felt as if they were "real" in so many ways. The author's skill to be able to do that is very clever and is a rare talent. Thoroughly enjoyable episode as James tries to settle Emma's fears and we learn more about their pasts.
RECOMMENDED.

Emma is meeting her best friend at the bar but she is very late however when she gets hold of her girlfriend’s husband it turns out she has food poisoning. James is having a drink as well with the intentions to get drunk as it is the anniversary of a very painful day in his life but when he overhears her call he strikes up a conversation. They have an enjoyable evening and the next day he asks her to dinner and that is the start of their relationship. What started as a casual relationship soon developed into much more however will they be able to handle the hurdles of both their pasts? Whitley Cox has a way of relating the feelings of the characters to make you feel what they are feeling and I look forward to Part 2. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book

I knew back when I read the Love, Passion and Power series that James was a character with a great story to tell. Here in his own story he's even more interesting and layered than I had suspected he was in Kendra and Justin's story.

James is having a horrible day for reasons unexplained at first, and Emma's voice at the bar they're both at, as she's on her cell being let down by her friend, is kind and sweet and sexy, and he's intrigued, and when she turns around, attracted. They spend a few hours talking, and share a cab back to their respective homes. Yes, they make out a little, but Emma isn't sure the next day if anything will come of it. Boy is she in for a surprise when he calls her the next day and asks her out. When he gives her a blunt proposition, Emma's taken aback, but very intrigued, and attracted, so she takes him up on it.

"But I'm a very busy man, and I don't have a lot of time for relationships and dating. I'm being very upfront about what kind of person I am and what kind of partner I would be. I love sex, I'm very good at it, and I would prefer to have it with someone I enjoy spending time with and respect. And I would very much like for you to be that person. I want to take care of you, spoil you, but above all else fuck your brains out. I just won't be a typical hands-on always home, always around boyfriend. Don't expect sweet text messages and phone calls every night that's just not me. I'm too busy. And I'm definitely not the boyfriend, marrying, settle down and have a family type of guy."

"But you need to know I live only in the now and won't make any promises about the future. What I can promise, though, is that when we are together, I will take care of you. I want to take you out as my date to special events, have you share my bed as often as you want to, and spend time together when it's convenient. I don't play head games and don't like labels such as boyfriend and girlfriend, but for lack of a better term, that's what we would be. However, I never share. We would be exclusive, so it's a take it or a leave it kind of thing. I'm not a good guy, and I'm not boyfriend material. We have no future. It's all about making each other feel good in the now, for as long as the arrangement works for the both of us."

Sounds very Christian Grey-ish, but have no fear, this is no 50 Shades crap. The relationship the two embark upon turns out to be quickly encompassing for both of them. Yes, very passionate, but surprisingly emotional (contrary to James' assertion about not being a "boyfriend") and it's obvious the two are quickly developing strong, very strong, feelings for the other. But, both of them carry around their own baggage, have scars, that may possibly hamper their developing relationship.

Reading their journey from "arrangement" to falling in love is a sexy, emotional experience. I can't wait to read their conclusion!
