Dani Richardson is living the dream. A corporate lawyer pursuing the case that could make her whole career, married to the man of her dreams with a beautiful child to boot, Dani knows this is the life she’s always wanted. What she can’t quite figure out is why she is so desperately, quietly miserable.
When Dani and her husband Eric decide to buy and renovate the old Attabury house in Ridgemount, North Carolina, Dani has no idea that God might have other plans when it comes to her life and her marriage. Will Dani be able to hold it all together long enough to get the impossible project done, or has she finally met her match?
Eric Richardson has built a life for himself and his family to be proud of. Coming up from a family drenched in grief and turmoil, he has painstakingly engineered their way into the good life. But when his wife Dani decides to buy and renovate an old, broken-down house that might as well be demolished and used for kindling, Eric is plunged into a way of life he never knew existed. Now as Dani battles ghosts and shadows old and new, Eric must decide if staying with her is even worth the gut-wrenching ride, or if it’s time to call it quits and admit the life he thought he was building is doomed to failure. Can God’s love really save a broken, desperate marriage? Find out in “Raising Attabury.”

The fifth and final novel in the epic Grace Series, “Raising Attabury” takes the reader on a decidedly different type of romantic journey that’s less about discovery as it is about rediscovery. This novel, written by USA Today Best Selling Christian novelist, Staci Stallings, explores Christian themes of forgiveness, hurt, healing and hope. It is the story of the every-marriage, the one that’s just going through the motions, trying to stay together and wondering if it’s even worth the effort. In these pages, you will find hope. You will find real life. You will find peace as you read of characters who do not have perfect lives, who make mistakes, and who ultimately experience the life God truly has in store for each of us if we can find the courage to surrender to His plan for our lives.
A stay-at-home mom with a husband, three kids and a writing addiction on the side, Staci Stallings has numerous titles for readers to choose from. Not content to stay in one genre and write it to death, Staci’s stories run the gamut from young adult to adult, from motivational and inspirational to full-out Christian and back again. Every title is a new adventure! That’s what keeps Staci writing and you reading. Staci touches the lives of people across the globe every week with her various Internet endeavors including:
3.5 stars really. It was okay, not like the first book. Eric and Dani, successful career couple, venture in buying Attabury’s house that held a significant impact in Dani’s life. Attabury was in Ridgemount where the other books in the series were based on. Like the Attabury’s house, Dani and Eric’s marriage was crashing and they were crashing too with everything else going on. Sadly, Jayden their daughter was caught in between this chaos.
Eric and Dani are black, I eventually figured this out and I liked that the author put hints out there for you to realise this, it was an important aspect of the story. However, the author made them act like the other characters. It kind of got a little confusing knowing the lifestyle of this couple should have been a tad different.
Pastor Steve as always was very encouraging but I didn’t like the bible study! The discussions were very helpful and are needed in church but that’s not a bible study! A bible study without one reference to the scriptures? Nah... the women’s group did the same thing too. It’s a Christian novel and should mention scriptures during a bible study.
The sermons and other discussions were too long! The novel was very preachy but I learnt a lot; that’s a good thing and i’lol be reading more from this author.
Only read 3 in the series but this one was packed with spiritual things to think about. Between the sermons Pastor Steve gave and the Bible Study Group the men had set up, lots about how to put God first and to find out what is at the center of your universe - what is most important to you. Can't have 2 things vying for the same position or you are off balance. Loved how the author weaved the story with all the couples being so involved with each other's lives. They were true friends who would do anything when one of them needed something. Especially when one person would text the others that they needed prayers, everyone would respond back that they were praying for them. A little humorous when the men tried to go "unplugged" from electronics but made you stop and realize if I was letting electronics overtake situations where I could have more quality time with family. Building the house was exciting and kind of sad when it was done and the story was over. Really good book to curl up on the couch with and get lost in the story :)
I don’t think I’ve learned so much about remodeling a house until I started reading this Grace series by Staci Stallings. Yet, not only did I learn about remodeling a house, but I learned so much more about remodeling my life. This series and this book have volumes of lessons on how God wants the best for me. In each book, I was struck with the depth of those lessons. I came away knowing of things I could change in my life. The author did such a wonderful job explaining how not only does a house need to be taken down to the bare bones to make it new, but often that’s what needs to happen in my life. This story ties all the past stories together in a beautiful, and sweet way. It showed that even though Dani and Eric are not truly from this community of friends, they were accepted and loved. They didn’t have to have it all put together perfectly. I truly love reading Staci Stallings' books because they are so rich and full of deep lessons. I’ve found that her writing is powerful and what she shares really hits the spot in my soul! She’s also an author who brings to life characters that will end up digging down deep into your soul! It amazed me how each character had something I could identify with and take to heart. It was exquisitely written and flowed smoothly, so smoothly that at the end my heart was tumbling all over the place. I laughed, I smiled, and I cried, throughout the book. There were so many emotions in just one reading! I highly recommend you pick this book up and read it, it just might change how you view things, and each moment in your life!
What a powerful! book- Dani & Eric having problems with life's challenges to succeed, both climbing their way up the corporate ladders, with a child and now an old home that needs help to once again Bea home, Attabury is a parallel the their relationship. Close to being ton down down but loving renovations restore the broken house - to a home full of love and peace. A team of married couples , united to restore and rebuild see Gods hand at work as their relationships deepen to restore Dani & Eric's marriage and a community that needs Gods hope and love.
I loved this book because it dealt with real life issues. I would recommend this to marries couples dealing with issues, singles, life groups, etc. I have 5 stars because there were so many nuggets and this really could be a movie as we are living in such a volatile world. The prayers were so powerful I prayed them out loud. The characters were so well developed I could just envision it all. I did a lot of soul searching after reading this book and my prayer is always for the Lord to order my steps. This was my first read from this author but I sure will be purchasing more.
Really liked, this, story. It was inspiring that Eric and Dani could be so close to giving up on each other and their marriage, and things completely turned around. Dani grew up thinking she had,to excele. Both were wrapped up in their jobs, they didn't make time for each other or their daughter. While trying to redo Attabury, their new friends gradually turned their attitudes around. When they started to turn to God, e everything changed for them. A truly good story.Definitely gave it 5 stars
An outstanding story of love and overcoming obstacles
Dani and Eric have grown apart and their marriage is floundering. When Dani wants to buy a house that is falling apart Eric reluctantly agrees. Their Adventure leads to a turn in their lives they don't expect. My only issue is with the author's repetitive use of certain phrases, such as "put his hand at his beltline.". It makes me think she can't come up with other descriptions.
Sometimes you read a book for the sake of entertainment, but other times, you want entertainment, but when you begin you realize you read a fiction book and a nonfiction one all in the same title. This was one of those. Ms. Stallings tends to interweave sermons, nonfiction devotional books and other encouragement throughout her novels and this was no different. I really felt challenged when I finished this one and as I read it, to be more present with my family.
I had seen this book title before, and assumed it was about raising a child. That is NOT what it's about at all :-) Well, it IS about raising a house and a marriage "from the dead." It helps if you've read the previous books, as then you'll know the background characters better, and how they got to where they are.
Again, this book is a great love story, plus you get lots of great teaching on what marriage and true love really are. It's hard to put down, because I kept waiting for the main characters to "wake up" and figure out things. It's worth hanging in there!
The book & what I've read of this series, so far have been exceptional! I love how the author describes the feelings, emotions, outward responses, & Christlikeness in the characters. I feel like I know them.
I started reading book 3, through 5 & now to go back & read 1 & 2.
Thank you also for sharing so much truth from God's Word through Pastor Steve & others! I felt like I should have taken notes, like I do during worship service at church!
If you're looking for a light romance, this is not it. While the love story of the main couple is important in the story, the way God changes them and their lives is the main theme. It is very heavy hitting in Christian principles and made me slow down and really pay attention. I appreciated the support network of friends and the pastor for all the couples in this series.
Staci’s books are phenomenal. Every page grips you and leaves you wanting to read more. Inspiring, captivating, motivational, fun, and so much more. I loved this series; although I jumped in and started in the middle I fully intend to go back and read the first two books. What a finish! I wish their was a devotional series to go with everything she touched on in this book.
This was a long book. It was hard to put down. Now that I'm finished it hard for me to remove from my carousel. It told the story of so.many couples that love each other but.lost their way. It displayed the power of prayer and intercession perfectly. I would definitely recommend this one!!
Like the rest of the books in this series, this one could use a good editor and grammar checker. Still a great story, it would be a lot better with some work pairing it down, defining each character's speaking style and fixing the sentences that don't make any sense.
I can't explain how timely this book was for me. At many, many points in this story, I felt the Holy Spirit speaking to me through this storyline. To follow Eric and Dani in their discovery of who God created them, individually, to be, I discovered some truth about myself. And it's good. Masterfully written!
(Deep sigh) I'm thankful to be at the end of the Grace Series but so sad to say goodbye to characters that have come to seem like friends. I love the phrase "ripples of hope" used in the epilogue. It would be difficult to read these books and come away unaffected. I hope that everyone reading these books sets their own ripples of hope in motion. GOD bless!
I found so much profound truth woven into a captivating story. Each book relates to my life. Now married thirty years, I especially loved Raising Attabury. This book struck deep chords and worked in my heart.
Side not, editing is horribly done! Surely good editing would help!
This book was another epic Christian story. It has so many lessons in it that are so needed today. I needed them today. I would recommend this author to anyone who loves God and wants to know more about Him in this world today. Thank you for writing this amazing book.
Book 5 in this series highlights seeking and finding peace and comfort among Christian friends. This is a wonderful series of enlightening stories. I loved the characters and the way their circle of friends continued to grow as they allowed God's hand to lead them. Staci Stallings is a very gifted author.
I would definitely recommend this book! It touched my heart and my spirit. There were times while reading I had to remind myself that it was only fiction. The lessons taught by Pastor Steve...I can hardly find words.
I'm sadden that I have come to the end of The Grace Series.... I feel as though I'm leaving my friends behind. Through their struggles, God has spoken to me in so many ways, which I have shared with others. Loved the entire series.
Uninspiring real life undramatic tale of marriage, family and love. Did not hold my attention--predictable, inconsequential and a yawner. Cover is deceptive, book is not a depiction of a African-American couple.
Loved the constant changing scenes. Very inspirational and refreshing. Once again, Ms. Stallings captures her reader with a “page turner” hard to put down.
Eric and Dani's story was my favorite! Wish there were more to this series! If you like a Christian series, then The Grace series is for you! Full of loveable characters, inspiration and hope! I highly recommend this series!
Oh, how sad I am to see this series end. Going from resolving issues between singles and married couples this series truly gave readers a very realistic view of how couples can work through everyday problems. Try this series if you are looking for something with real substance. While I learned years ago I can't depend on another human for my own happiness, somehow I missed that I wasn't the one responsible for another's happiness.
