My wife and I used this book of devotionals for this last Lent season. It covers the 40 days of Lent omitting each Sunday as is traditional. Ms. Wise had some devotionals which were very thought-provoking and unique. However, I cannot wholly recommend this devotional because of the frequent and annoying typos (such as words duplicated or omitted) and misspellings. That broke our concentration on the content while we tried to figure out what she was writing.
Another grievous mistake was not putting any chapter markers or days of the week for each devotion. So if you were not sure if you had read yesterday's devotion or lost your place on which day you were on, you had to manually COUNT from the beginning or end to make sure you were using the correct reading. It would have been so easy to put in a table of contents.
To complicate this further the devotions did not correspond to what happened during the last journey to Jerusalem that Jesus took. This was especially noticeable during Holy Week when the devotions ALL had to do with events that occurred AFTER Jesus’ resurrection. So on Good Friday we were reading about the risen Jesus having breakfast with his disciples on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. It is not what we expected.
We also found little meaning to the “Image” objects you were to gather for the devotion and we soon stopped bothering.
Despite all these faults, some of Ms. Wise's insights were profound but the aggravations about the devotional's faults kept us from fully embracing this little book.
