For fans of Maya Banks’ KGI series, prepare to meet the men of the Delta Force Brotherhood, a sexy new contemporary series where kicking ass and living hard is just how they roll.

Ex-special forces ranger Dylan McCourt is a stone cold killer who cares only about his military brothers and doing what’s right. He’s used to giving orders and has zero patience for bullshit. Most people tremble when they look him in the eye, but not his infuriatingly sexy new rescue mission, Jessie Lyon. She just juts her chin and says she’s not leaving without clearing her father’s name, to hell with his rules. And was that a one finger salute he sees in her eyes or his imagination? Either way, he knows this is one job his training might not have prepared him for.

Update*****

Moving this to will try to finish later. I spoke to someone that read the book and said it was probably poor word usage as that is the only time in the book he deviates from his characterization so will try again when I get out of my head.

dnf 20%. Won't be rating but this is a case of one sentence ruined the book for me.

basically the h is kidnapped. The H is part of a secret team that saves people/works cases secretly. He see's a picture of her and is immediately captured. Enough so that he tells a teammate that he wants to get to know her... flash forward a few pages and a casino setting. He is looking "wistfully" at a bunch of women and a gambling machine.

Definition of wistful

1:  full of yearning or desire tinged with melancholy; also :  inspiring such yearning awistful memoir

so confused.. You have a guy that protects and serves interested in a female that could be at that very moment raped or murdered and he is longingly looking at tits and gambling...

I'M OUT

as always personal opinion, hope you liked the book but I like consistent characterization and that seemed off.

With a bar doing a roaring trade as a cover, a brotherhood of ex-military men tries to make the world a better place on their own terms as ‘Hard Play’ opens with the rescue of a woman hell bent on revenge. But she is not who she seems when a video feed forces her to prove her innocence all around her.

‘Hard Play’ runs on the fuel that drives most romantic suspense books and thus, isn’t very much a deviation from this tried-and-tested formula: a search for the bad guys (who do get their comeuppance), the emphasis on getting injustice righted, clearing names and fighting for the oppressed—accompanied by a ton of fast-moving scenes with loads of action in them. Throw in the kind of gritty James Bond-esque (though not always believable) explosive chemistry between the protagonists who somehow always manage to find time to do the sweaty-dirty and the book’s pretty much made, although the HEA isn’t assured up until the end.

In some ways, the book didn’t surprise me at all, yet the story’s easy to go down enough and I was nonetheless entertained going through the paces of classic romantic suspense here, especially with strong characters that do stick out from the pages. Dylan McCourt and Jessie Lyon spearhead the series and they’re likeable and sensible enough, though once again, stereotypical of this genre, minus (thankfully) the shenanigans that tend to pop out unexpectedly when conflict is created for conflict’s sake.

‘Hard Play’ is my very first book by Sheryl Nantus and whether it really bears comparison to authors like Maya Banks—as proudly touted by the blurb—isn’t something I think I’m qualified to agree or disagree with quite yet, because there’s always something about the first book in the series that makes me cautious but somewhat optimistic. All it took were a few lines detailing the secrets that other members of the brotherhood were keeping (yet to be uncovered) and the bait is thrown out for the sequels in this series.

A complete and total lover of Maya Banks' KGI series, I immediately wanted this book. I mean, if you're going to compare it in a blurb, I'll give it a shot. I'm happy I took the leap. I think that this is a pretty good start to a series (even though it's not listed as one) and can see each one of these men getting their own story. Which I'd be more than happy to read.

Jesse's in trouble. She's been working undercover to take down a mobster and was seconds away from collecting everything she needed before she was captured. Thank goodness she set up a signal with her BFF because now that she hasn't "checked in" for a few days, her friend is trying to find her. But she needs help. Help that can only come from a Brotherhood that bend rules to get things done.

Dylan is the leader of the Delta Force Brotherhood. The moment Jesse's friend showed him a picture of her and explained the situation, he knew he had to step in to help find her. And now that he's rescued her, he's not so sure he's ready to walk away. I guess it's serendipitous that Jesse's captor doctors a video, implicating Jesse as a murderer. Now Dylan has a new mission. Clearing Jesse's name...along with keeping her safe.

The story line is simple with a few twists and turns to keep us involved and interested. Since the chemistry is instant between the two, it was easy to "get it out of the way" and focus on the real story which was obtaining the evidence to take down this mobster. In between the planning and executing, we're lucky enough to meet the rest of the Brotherhood, falling a little harder for each one of them. Like I stated earlier, this was a pretty good start to a series I'm looking forward to continuing. Hmmm, I wonder who's next??? Ace, Finn, Trey? Crossing my fingers for an Ace/Lisa...just sayin'...

The story starts when Lisa goes to the Devil's Playground Night Club where she's been told there are people who will listen to her report of her best friend's disappearance. Her best friend is Jessie Lyon, an ex-cop and now a private investigator who is seeking evidence to convict a mobster, Edward Molodavi, who seems to have half the police force in his pay, keeping his image squeaky clean even though she knows it was him who had her father shot.

The Brotherhood are a team of largely ex-military, led by Dylan McCourt. The Night club is their source of regular income and also a front behind which they work. Together they work to right wrongs, not as restrained as official law enforcement agencies are. These are the ones who rescue daughters trapped in cults, victims of kidnappers and so much more - but all on the quiet, seeking safe resolutions but not publicity or notoriety whilst they do so. When Dylan sees a photo of Jessie, he's shocked at his own reaction. He has to get her safely back then see how things go between them.

This is an action packed thriller with so many suspense filled twists and turns it is a real page turner, a totally enthralling read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, immersing in the scenarios and routing for the brilliantly portrayed characters. It is great to read of a truly feisty, determined and resourceful female lead like Jessie. I really hope this is the start to a new series - I'd love to read about other members of the brotherhood and find out what happens between Ace and Lisa!

Many thanks to the publishers who gifted me a copy of this novel via NetGalley, with no obligation. I have chosen to read and review this novel and this is my honest opinion.

I love all kinds of romantic suspense especially the ones with ex-military heroes! So there was no way I wouldn't give this one a try, now that its been compared to the KGI series!

Delta Force Brotherhood consists of a group of ex-military men,who work hard to help and rescue those in need. They own a nightclub and at the same time focus on investigative and rescue work too.
When a young woman comes to Dylan, their leader asking for help in finding her best friend, he takes one look at the photo of the friend-Jessie and decides to help her.But when he does rescue her, he never expected to find a woman who is so defiant, infuriatingly stubborn and sexy at the same time.
When she gets into even bigger trouble, its upto Dylan and his brothers to help her clear her name and her father's.

Jessie is an ex-cop who has gone undercover and was working hard to take down a mob boss who ordered the death of her father. She wants to clear her father's name. But just when she is so close to getting what she wants, she gets into trouble. So, its great that she had a code system established with her best friend Lisa, who goes to Dylan for help when Jessie doesn't turn up.
Jessie is surprised to get help from an unexpected resource, and to add more they are ready to help her in her mission too.If only she could keep her hands off the leader for some time!

I think Jessie and Dylan made a great pair and were perfect for each other.Usually we find a damsel-in-distress.But, here Jessie is not one.She is strong, stubborn and intelligent at the same time. She doesn't rush into foolish situations without thinking or planning.
Dylan was a little of the strong and silent type, but was great with Jessie!
Though the plot wasn't that much different from other books, it is still fast paced and keeps us on our toes.
Meeting the other team members was also fun!Sheryl Nantus has given us a promising start to a new series and I hope the next book is about Ace!

Give me a group of honest, loyal and kick butt ex military guys who own a club but moonlight as the Brotherhood - a highly skilled team that rights wrongs when the law just can't - and I'm hooked.

Wow! This was a fast paced romance with action, suspense, humor and simmering heat. I loved Dylan, he was a devoted leader, a caring protector and a sexy as all get out lover! Loved him a little harder for the non-cliched way he treated Jessie. There was not cuddling or denying her strengths and skills. He respected her and loved her for being such a strong person. That - sadly - is not very common in romance novels. I'm glad there wasn't a typical damsel in distress scene here. They both worked as a team and relied on each other to come out on top and I really liked that.

Jessie was a pretty great h for the same reason as Dylan was such an awesome Hero. She knew what she could and couldn't do and didn't exhibit any TSTL moments which imo was awesome! Like I mentioned before this has a lot going on right from the start and there's no slowing down until the end. It was intense with all its planning, coordinating, attacking and rescuing going on that I felt the romance part (which was nice) fell behind a bit.

Safety: very safe - No OM/OW drama (Neither are virgin but we don't get unnecessary details about either's sexual past which is a plus!) There's no cheating and ends with a HFN ending. Sadly no epilogue :(

He is a stone cold killer who cares only about his military brothers and doing what’s right. Dylan McCourt is used to giving orders and has zero patience for bullshit, making people tremble when they look him in the eye. But Jessie Lyon just juts her chin and says to hell with his rules, she’s not leaving without clearing her father’s name.

This series if full of sexy, alpha bad boys that readers just love and the first book starts them off with a thrilling tale of one such bad boy meeting his match. The chemistry between Dylan and Jessie is off the charts and the energy crackles from the pages and singes their fingers while their romance has sparks flying in every direction with heated clashes and steamy, red hot passion. The story is full is full of emotional turmoil adds depth to the story as well as the strong, bold characters and the readers easily become caught up in their story.

The plot is fast paced, full of thrilling suspense and adrenaline pumping excitement as first Dylan rescues Jessie from the clutches of a crime boss and meets his match in stubborn, kick butt style that gives readers a kick of heart pounding delight because they know this story is going to be a juicy, delicious and electrifying read that they can’t put down.

I discovered Sheryl Nantus when I started reading her fantasy romance series Odin's Bastards. I LOVE that series! I honestly questioned whether or not she could pull off a romantic suspense as good as, if not better than that series. I don't even know why I was skeptical.

From the beginning, I was captivated. Hard Play had the suspense I look for in a romantic suspense. This wasn't a gory story with guts and blood. The romance was steamy and well-placed.

Hard Play is the first book in the Delta Force Brotherhood series. The Brotherhood consists of former special forces members who have come together to help people who have nowhere else to turn. Led by former Ranger Dylan McCourt, the group doesn't ask for payment but uses the favor system. Meaning they'll help you out but will call on you in the future, if they need something. The group works under the radar out of their nightclub The Devil's Playground.

When former Las Vegas Police Detective turned private investigator Jessica “Jessie” Lyon goes missing, her best friend Lisa Boudreau goes to the Brotherhood for help. The Brotherhood learns that Jesse has been kidnapped by mobster Edward Molodavi. They set out to rescue Jessie and are successful. They just never expected Edward to refuse to let her go. Edward ups the stakes and makes Jessie a wanted fugitive. In order to clear her name and end Edward’s illegal activities, Jessica and the Brotherhood go to war against Edward. The stakes are high with loyalties and alliances being questioned. One thing for sure is that Vegas and the Brotherhood will be changed forever.

I loved all the characters in the story. Yes, even mobster Edward Molodavi. You literally had no idea what he was going to do next. Dylan caught me off-guard with his instant infatuation for Jessie. Jessie is a true survivor. She's smart and tough and refuses to back down. They are really good together. They complement each other and work well together. I'm looking forward to reading the next book. It should be noted that this is not a motorcycle club story.

This is an action packed thriller that kept me awake with its suspense filled with turns and twists.
I love to read books with men in uniform (current or ex members) and when I saw the book, I had to read it.
In very short without too much reveal, this is a story about saving kidnaped Jessie Lyon, an ex-cop and now a private investigator who is seeking evidence to convict a mobster. Her best friend Lisa is going to the Devil's Playground Night Club where she's been told there are people who will help her....
It is a nice start of a new series that will be a page turner.
I enjoyed reading this first book and I can't wait to read the next ones.

Dylan McCourt is in charge of his domain. And he’s a man of many talents. Jessica “Jessie” Lyon is in a real pickle and she needs Dylan’s level of expertise to keep her safe. It has plenty of action, suspense, twists and turns to keep you riveted from beginning to end. This also shows how fast our lives can change. I was impressed that Jessie didn’t let her situation get her down. She used it to her advantage.

Ms. Nantus has created two main characters with strong personalities. This can be a good thing and it can be a bad thing. It’s one that you will go back and forth on from beginning to end. But one thing I loved was how she made an alpha male willing to open himself to possibilities. But just like most males, he thinks he knows what’s best for the woman – some men never learn.

Many years ago, I had the chance to go to Atlantic City. Went to one of the many casinos and it taught me two things. First, I’m not much of a gambler. Two, I know where all the losers go while waiting for the bus to take them back to their hotel. This book would have made my wait so much more enjoyable.

As I was reading, it had me reminiscing about some of my favorite old shows – this would fit in perfectly. The author does such a great job of creating her scenes that you’ll have no trouble seeing the story play out in your mind. It’s a story of patience. Nothing is revealed too soon which kicks up the suspense. We all love our happy ending and you kinda get one here. But it also gets you ready for the next book, which I was happy to see. If this series were to come out on television, I would be a loyal fan. This just means that I will have to continue to read each book as they come out.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Lisa has reached the end of her rope! Her friend has gone missing, the police are far from interested and a friend of a friend has recommended she visit the Devil's Playground Night Club and she'll get the help she needs. Jessie Lyon, an ex-cop & current PI as missed her check in whilst working undercover and Lisa needs the cavalry ASAP. Edward Molodavi is not someone to be taken lightly but this is personal for Jessie, who believes he was involved in the shooting of her father.

The Brotherhood uses the Devils Playground as a profitable front for their team. They tread were normal law enforcement fear to tread. Led by the indomitable Dylan McCourt, this bunch of Vets are doing what they can to right the world. One look as Jessie and Dylan is having all sorts of non professional thoughts about saving her.

This is a tightly wound plot with great characters, horrible mobsters and an entire ocean worth of good people willing to go the extra mile (and willingly look the other way in some circumstances) to jet justice for those whom the system has failed. Jessie is a tough cookie and just hates to appear vulnerable in anyway. Dylan is honourable and wants to let her get her revenge but he just can't seem to stop trying to protect her!

I'm really looking forward to more in this series and Ace and Lisa are gonna be fun!

I have chosen to read and review this novel and this is my honest opinion.

description

Nantus' Hard Play was an exciting and engaging start to her Delta Force Brotherhood Series series. Jessie Lyon may not be with the Las Vegas Police Department anymore but that doesn't mean she's not still fighting for justice and she'll go as far as she has to to get it. When Jessie goes missing, it's up to Dylan McCourt and The Brotherhood to find her and bring her home.
Jessie was a tough character. She was relentless and unwavering in her search for the truth and vengeance. I liked her quick thinking and drive. Much of these qualities were similar to Dylan. He too was loyal, smart, strong. They were both worthy opponents for any adversary but together they were near unstoppable.
I enjoyed the fast paced storyline and the action and intrigue woven throughout. The romance between Jessie and Dylan was another great addition to the story. In addition to the strong lead characters, Nantus gives us an intriguing group of secondary characters to look forward to. I'm eager to learn more about each of them in their own stories.

Hard Play by Sheryl Nantus is the first story in her Delta Force Brotherhood series, a sexy and action packed romance that introduces the men who form the brotherhood and play by their own set of rules. A group of mostly ex-military men each with their own talents, the Brotherhood run a Las Vegas Nightclub, the Devil’s Playground. But that’s just a front for their real operation, going in where others won’t to tackle hostage situations, among other cases, where the usual rules don’t apply. They work through back channels, and don’t expect, or want recognition. Success means all the good guys get out alive.

When Dylan McCourt is approached by a woman whose friend is missing, he and his men are quickly able to determine where she’s being held hostage, and why. Rescuing Jessica Lyon, an ex-cop working now as a private investigator from the clutches of mobster Molodavi is challenging but doable and Jessica is smart and resourceful in helping them get her free. But she and Molodavi have unfinished business. She had been working undercover at his casino when he kidnapped her, believing she’d stolen incriminating information from his office. And she’s out to prove that he’s responsible for the shooting of her father. Dylan has his hands full with the feisty PI who is willing to risk a lot to bring Molodavi down. Keeping her safe is his priority, but the sexual attraction between them means he wants her not just in his sights, but in his bed as well. As things heat up on the outside and between them, will they live long enough to enjoy a happy ever after?

I really enjoyed this romantic suspense story! The setup for the series is well done, and I liked how Jessie was able to use her training to help herself during her rescue by Dylan and his men. She had a tough time on the police force with her misogynistic boss and that was part of what led to her leaving and becoming a private investigator. The death of her father was devastating and she’s determined to find out what really happened when he got shot. She’s resourceful and inventive but admits that she can’t find out all the answers alone.

Dylan is a good guy hero who is willing to do what it takes to see a job through to the end. After Jessie is rescued, things aren’t over when she’s framed for murder and he has to keep her safe, clear of the law now after her, and help her in her fight to take down Molodavi. Dylan and Jessie share some steamy scenes as they work together, encountering challenges along the way to their eventual happy ending. The camaraderie of the men in the Brotherhood makes for some interesting and fun scenes and I’m looking forward to reading their stories as well. It’s a solid start to this new series and I’m ready for book 2!

A quote:
“Was what they had real, or just a rush of adrenaline, their love more an addition to action than true, heartfelt emotion?” (Loc. 2579, ARC)
“Hard Play”, by Sheryl Nantus, is a romantic suspense novel where the suspense plays a significant part. I found the concept and project of the Brotherhood interesting, although the outside-the-law dimension is questionable and can be dangerous.
Dylan and Jessica are strong characters and fall for each other immediately (before they met, he sees a photograph of her and is already lusting). As a woman in a man’s world (Jessica is a cop), the heroine is a compelling female character, as capable as the Brotherhood male members.
The suspense was a bit overdeveloped for my taste, to the point that instead of thrilled I was a bit bored, and the insta-attraction between the couple isn’t my favorite trope, or the passionate kissing while facing extremely dangerous conditions where any distraction could be fatal.

Dylan, former Special Forces, now owns a nightclub, but on the side, he and others like him formed the Brotherhood, a secretive company for those to use when no one else can resolve their issue. This is one of those times when Lisa, worried for her best friend, Jessie, informs Dylan of Jessie's disappearance. Dylan agrees to take the case, but can't help the surprise over his reaction to Jessie's picture.

"He reached out and drew his finger along the playful smile, and his gut twisted as he worried that he might never get a chance to see her for himself." - Dylan

Jessie, a former cop turned private investigator, was so close to finding justice for her father. Unfortunately, before she could, she was kidnapped by the Molodavi family. Yes, the name is implying exactly what you assume.

Dylan is thankful the search for Jessie revealed her location so quickly after they took the case and his entire focus is on rescuing her. Jessie is shocked, yet extremely grateful went she realizes someone is there for her, that she'll be free, well, at least from the cage she spent a week in. Though she blames the adrenaline surging through her, Jessie can't deny the shot of desire she feels around Dylan.

As the best place for Jessie is anywhere else, the stakes are now higher due to Molodavi crafting evidence to make Jessie into a murderer. Though Dylan wants to continue with his original plan, a safe house away from Las Vegas, Jessie refuses to leave, knowing she can contribute her skills to the case and she needs to do this for her Dad. Plus, there's just something about Dylan.

"She'd be crazy to think there wasn't more going on here than a professional butting of heads over procedure. There was something between them, something that demanded more investigation when the time was right." - Jessie

As Dylan, Jessie, and the Brotherhood make plans, Dylan is still reluctant to use Jessie on anything that could be dangerous. But Jessie knows what she's doing and has the skills to follow through and is tired of being seen as less than because she's a woman, an issue she dealt with too much of as a cop. What Jessie doesn't understand though is that Dylan has seen just how capable she is and isn't against her participation because of professional reasons.

"But that wasn't what was at stake here. He couldn't risk losing her so soon after finding her." - Dylan

Will Dylan and Jessie find justice for her Dad? What happens when a betrayal is uncovered by someone Jessie thought she could trust? Is Jessie safe? Is her friend, Lisa? Are the feelings growing between Dylan and Jessie real? Or are they only due to the intensity of the situation? Will they get a HEA? Or go their separate ways? What's happening between Ace, a member of the Brotherhood, and Lisa? Is their story next?

One-click now and follow along as two people meet under dangerous circumstances and find a love that can't be denied.

Ex-special forces ranger Dylan McCourt is a stone cold killer who cares only about his military brothers and doing what’s right. He’s used to giving orders and has zero patience for bulls***.

For fans of Maya Banks’ KGI series, prepare to meet the men of the Delta Force Brotherhood, a sexy new contemporary series where kicking ass and living hard is just how they roll.

Jesse's been working undercover trying to take down a mobster, seconds away from collecting everything she needed before she was captured. She set up a signal with her best friend that if she hasn't "checked in" for a few days, her friend is to try and find her. But she's going to need help and that's where the Brotherhood that bend rules to get things done come in. Dylan rescues Jesse and now he's not sure he want's to walk away from her. He's head of the Delta Force Brotherhood and when Jesse's captor's doctor a video showing her as a murderer, he has to work to clear her name.

I'm a definite fan of Maya Banks' KGI series and this really reminded me of that. If you like romance with action and drama, then this book is for you! They had instant chemistry and I loved the interchange between Jesse and Dylan. There are a lot of Alpha Men introduced in this book so you know that it's an introduction to the books that are to follow. I think for the start of the series, it was an awesome start. I will definitely be reading the other ones. My only issue was all the sex in it...I think we could have had a lot more plot and less sex but that's my personal opinion. I'm just one of those that believe less is actually more. It didn't detract from the storyline, however. Overall, I thought this was a job well-done.

I was given a copy of this ARC from the publisher on NetGalley for an honest review. All of the above comments are my express opinions and no one else's.

**I received a copy of Hard Play from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**

The Hard Play by Sheryl Nantus is a wonderful story with action and the sense of family that each of the men of Delta Force Brotherhood they help those who need help when everyone has said no. I hope that they will be a series because I'd love to read Ace and Lisa's book!

Dylan McCort runs the Devil's Playground night club in Las Vegas but he and his former Delta Force teammates run the Delta Force Brotherhood a quiet group of men who help those who have nowhere else to turn. They keep it on the down low collecting favors from those who they've helped to be called in when needed. But when Lisa Boudreau arrives at the club needing help to find her best friend, Jessie who has missed several check ins on her current case. Dylan and the Brotherhood take the case to find her, but what he doesn't know is the case she's working on will go deep into a well known Mob family in Las Vegas. While on the run, Jessie and Dylan soon find out that their feelings for each other run deeper than anything they've experienced before.

Jessie Lyon,a former Las Vegas detective now turned private investigator, has gone missing and her best friend Lisa has tried to get help to find her but no one will help. See she left the LVPD with some bad feelings but their are also dirty cops who are on the payroll of Edward Molodavi. All she wants is justice for the death of her father and to take down the man who ordered him killed. Little does she know that The Brotherhood is willing to help her take the well known mob boss down. She has has something he wants and if he has to kill to get it, well what's another body buried in the dessert?

I loved the suspense, action and camaraderie of the men of The Brotherhood who help out each other without hesitation even though their may be nothing in return except a favor to be called in when needed. I wish I could give the book more than 5 stars because its a fantastic worth more stars.

‘Hard Play’ is a riff on the Maya Banks KGI series so if you like MB KGI books, you will love ‘Hard Play’ by Sheryl Nantus.
The story line is simple-- Jesse's in trouble. She has been trying to take down a bad mobster and was really close to doing it before she was captured. She ended up setting up with her best friend a code in case something happened to her and if she didn’t check in with her by a certain time, her BFF would notify certain people and that would get her help. Help that can only come from a Brotherhood that bend rules to get things done.
Dylan is the leader of the Delta Force Brotherhood. When Jesse’s BFF shows up , shows him a picture of her and explained the situation, he knew he has to be the one to step in and find her. Dylan finds her but something happens that requires even more of his help, otherwise Jesse’s life is forfeit in even more ways than just her breathing. Now Dylan has a new mission. Clearing Jesse's name...along with keeping her safe.
This is a simple story- with just a few twists and turns. I enjoyed the chemistry between Jesse and Dylan and also enjoyed the secondary characters in this book. I cannot wait for more in future books. I wonder who gets the next book—Trey, Finn, Ace??? I also hope to see Dylan and Jesse back as well.

My rating: 4.0 stars ****

This is the first book I've read by Sheryl Nantus but after reading this one I will be looking for more! This one is action packed from the very first page and it keeps going to the very last page. I simply couldn't put it down. A band of former Delta Force teammates have come together in a brotherhood to help people in need that have no other place to turn for help. The case they take in this book will put all their strengths to the test. Thinking it is a mere extraction case that should be a quick in and out was Dylan McCort's first mistake. Thinking he could resist the very tempting Jessie Lyon was his second.

The writing, characters, and storyline in this book make it a must read. I highly recommend it.

This one was not in my typical genre of reading and I am happy to say I enjoyed it.
I love the hidden, secret world Dylan lives in.

He's this big tough and ruff guy who gets jobs done. There are so many twists and turns that keep you fully engaged . When he agrees to help find Jessie, and looks at her photo his reaction is just...gah!!

"He reached out and drew his finger along the playful smile, and his gut twisted as he worried that he might never get a chance to see her for himself." - Dylan

This was my first book by this author. It was a well written, enjoyable read. I look forward to reading more of hers.

This review is based on the ARC provided b the author and/or the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was captivated from the first page. The amount of action and romance in this book is outstanding. This author was a new find for me. She is definitely on my radar for a good read. I thought she wasn't going to give me my HEA for a little while there, but she saved it for the end.

Story kept you on your toes, wondering what is next and chemistry was hot. Loved the brotherhood and what they did for people, and what they represented, can't wait to read more from them.

I just loved this book. Hard Play was a fast, suspenseful ride, filled with danger, romance, and smoking hot men! I fell for the main characters, Jessie and Dylan, from the start, two strong people willing to put their lives on the line for others. Their romance was oh so swoon worthy. The book played out like an action movie for me. Jessie is kidnapped while working a personal undercover assignment, Dylan and his team brought in to save her. Can't wait to read more in this series!

I read the second book in this series before this one and loved it, this one however was majorly disappointing. I was too bored with it, nothing really all that exciting happened. It was pretty dull and could have been shorter, maybe by 7 chapters. A lot of it was pointless. I regret reading this book, and that's something I have never said.

Hard Play by Sheryl Nantus is the first book in the Delta Force Brotherhood series. Dylan McCourt owns and operates a nightclub in Las Vegas called The Devil’s Playground. While it is quite successful it is also a cover for the Delta Force Brotherhood; an organization of ex Delta Force brothers who are always available to help someone in need.

When Lisa Boudreau comes into the club – Dylan can tell by the look of her that she isn’t there for a drinks and a party. She needs the help of the Brotherhood. Lisa’s best friend Jessie Lyon is in some kind of trouble. An ex cop, turned private investigator, hasn’t gotten in touch with Lisa in about a week. If Jessie needs to go undercover – they have an agreement that she texts at least once a day – that is Lisa’s way of knowing that Jessie is alright. But she hasn’t heard anything from her and she knows something is wrong. Lisa has exhausted all of her leads, the cops think she is crazy and that Jessie just took off to clear her head and find a new life. But Lisa knows that is not the case.

With no indication of what case Jessie had been working on, or where she may be – Dylan agrees to take the case. And after looking at a picture of Jessie he knows he must do whatever he can to save her, he has no idea why. But at first sight of the photo he knows – he must do whatever it takes to make her safe. After doing some investigating Dylan and the Brotherhood soon find out that Jessie had been working at Fluxxx Casino as a blackjack dealer for the last three months. What he can’t figure out is why? Why would an ex-cop turned PI need to work at a casino? Unless she was undercover for some reason. After looking into the casino more – Dylan finds out that the place is owned by Edward Molodavi, an old school mobster. Edward Molodavi is bad news in the worst kind of way. Not exactly the kind of person that you want to get involved with. And for some reason Jessie has upset him.

The Brotherhood works fast to find out that Molodavi has Jessie held captive. He found out that Jessie was working undercover to try and bring Molodavi down. You see for Jessie it is personal. One of Molodavi’s men shot Jessie’s dad while he was a cop with Metro. Her father was paralyzed and died not long after. And Jessie swore to her father before he passed away that she would take Molodavi down.

When Dylan moves in to rescue Jessie he finds is a stubborn, strong willed woman with the beauty and the brawn to be everything he has ever wanted. After saving her from her captive, he must keep her safe and the more time he spends with her – the more he realizes that he would do anything to keep her with him. But is their attraction just Stockholm syndrome? Are they only attracted to each other because of the adrenalin rush of the rescue and keeping her safe? There may be only one way to find out.

Dylan McCourt is a hot, able bodied ex Delta Force on a mission. From the moment you meet him you know he means business. He doesn’t play games, he goes to work, gets the job done and does what ever is needed to keep those around him safe. The moment he sees the photo of Jessie you kind of know he is in trouble. His primal instinct kicks in and he wants nothing more than to save her and find out more about her. He is rugged, and good looking and yet a complete gentleman all at the same time. And his loyalty to his Brothers knows no bounds.

Jessie Lyons is one stubborn willed woman on a mission. She wants nothing more than to expose Molodavi for the criminal he is. With the police seemingly turning their heads at all the illegal activity surrounding Molodavi, she knows she must be the one to bring him down. She didn’t bargain for Dylan McCourt. The attraction is there – quite obviously – but she has a job to complete. She knows now that she can’t possibly do it all on her own and the help of the Brotherhood may be the only help she has. She is strong willed, stubborn and can kick some serious ass if need be. But on the same note she is relatable – and likeable. You want her to be your friend. You know she would always have your back.

This is nowhere near my normal genre, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Being that I live in Las Vegas I loved how all of the surroundings were on point. The outlying areas of Summerlin mentioned and Mt. Charleston was on point. I have travelled the road from Mt. Charleston holding onto the dash for dear life myself. The story was spot on about the surroundings. And I believe that makes the story much more enjoyable and relatable. I love when the author gets it all right. This story had intrigue and danger; you want and need to know what is going to happen. I loved all the sub-characters from the Brotherhood and I cannot wait to read the next soldiers story. I loved that Lisa and Jessie’s friendship was real and you could feel the bonds of friendship in their words.

Completely out of my reading comfort zone – but absolutely enjoyed this book. Would recommend to anyone that enjoys a good love story with some kick ass fight scenes.

Love with a challenge.

Great book...loved the interplay between Jesse and Dylan. The brotherhood helped those in trouble kind of like the old A team. The men are not and caring.
Jesse gets kidnapped by a gangster because she infiltrated his club and got information. He had her father killed and she promised to take him down.
Her friend, Lisa hired the brotherhood to get her back but things go from bad to worse as she gets deeper and Lisa is taken. Great story but won't give you all the twists so read it yourself.
