All of her life, Cadence “Cade” Williams has been lied to…
With her ailing father on his deathbed, a whispered secret sends Cadence’s life into a tailspin. Determined to either confirm or debunk her father’s claim, she sets out on a mission to grow close to the only man with evidence to set things straight. To do that, Cadence earns a position in an elite security firm owned by her father’s old army buddy, Noah “Mac” Mackinley.
Mac is the only man who could hold the evidence to support her father’s claims…
But first, she must prove herself worthy of Mac’s trust and get close enough to find the truth. Her first mission is to watch over an eight-year old girl, Harley Clark.
Harley is not an ordinary girl. She’s the daughter of a rock star…
Despite her fragile appearance, Harley has tenacity and brilliance like nothing Cade has ever seen. To everyone’s surprise—including her own—Cade forms an unlikely friendship with the beautiful wallflower.
Her first assignment just became more interesting…
When Harley’s rock star father, Jax Clark, enters the scene, Cade can’t deny the instant attraction for the self-proclaimed bad boy. Tattoos, piercing eyes, and a raspy voice that sends thousands of fans into a screaming frenzy, he’s more than just a heartthrob. Worse, Jax starts to pay her more attention than she expects.
She’s faced with a choice—get lured in by the celebrity world and lose any chance of finding out the truth, or stick to the plan and avoid Jax at all costs to earn Mac’s trust.
Michelle is addicted to romance. She believes in happily ever afters and loves writing about couples who get there.
When not writing, she props her feet up on her favorite lounger and binges on Netflix shows, or reads one or two books at the same time. She enjoys red wine, dark chocolate, cake, and can talk your ears off about delicious food. Travelling is high on her list, whether alone, with friends or family.
Michelle lives in Ontario, Canada with her husband, two amazing children and a cuddly maltese-yorkie dog named Scarlet.
Too many rock star romances are the same basic three plots:
1. The Rockstar Hero meets the heroine and is attracted to her and gets her to go on tour with him and they fall in love. 2. The heroine joins the rock tour in some work capacity and falls for rock star. 3. The Rockstar needs a break and goes to a small town and falls for a local heroine.
In his story, the fact that the guy was a rock star was sort of background information. It was important to the story but it wasn’t the biggest part of the story. His being a Rockstar was just a way of showing that he was rich, a bad boy and that he had a semi-valid reason for his background with his daughter. Though no explanation is really good enough for not being there, but it happens.
I enjoyed the book quite a bit because it focused on the relationships. Jackson “Jax” is the Rock Star who recently got full custody of his daughter Harley, who is eight years old and has a heart defect. He hires a bodyguard for himself and one for his daughter. Cadence “Cade” is the bodyguard hired for Harley, who is old beyond her years from living with a mother who didn’t care about her and having a Dad who was on the road without time for her.
Jax wants to be more of a father but doesn’t know how. Though Cade and Harley have an immediate connection which allows Harley to start acting like a child for the first time in her life. Jax is attracted to Cade and also grateful for the way she is with his daughter.
The book is heartfelt and romantic and has a storyline about Cade’s family as well as Harley’s mother. The rest of the band was introduced as well as the band manager and some other interesting side characters. I would definitely read more of this series.
I am a sucker for a man with kids. And this was no different. This is a really sweet story and it was a pick me up that I needed. 3 ‘I wanted more’ Stars.
Cadence ‘Cade’ Williams is on a mission. She moves from New Jersey to Vancouver to see if Mac from Mackinley Security is really her father but Mac doesn’t trust her but employs her anyway. Her first assignment is a high profile case. Cade becomes a bodyguard. Or babysitter depending on what way you view it.
Cade and Harley forge a strong connection and Harley feels as if she can finally confide in someone. Due to her mother being absolutely frigging nuts, Harley acts far older than her eight years. She has been the personal assistant to her mother until she moves in with her father. Harley is far older for her age as I also think that it has to do with her heart condition and has a positive outlook on life.
Jax Clark Rockstar God doesn’t really know how to deal with his daughter. His ex is frigging nuts as I mentioned before. But with Cade around the build a bridge to cover the distance. Until Jax forces Cade to take a different type of action.
Although at times I felt as if Harley was the main character and that Cade and Jax were secondary characters. It flowed well. But I still wanted more.
There was so little interaction between Jax and Cade that it was somehow hard to believe that they would work. I wanted them to get to know one another more.
I will continue the series as I think that Ms. Quinn has potential but it could have been fleshed out slightly more.
I can honestly say I was surprised by this book. I didn't quite expect that the character I loved the most was a, eight year old child. A child that Cade was hired to protect. I loved the connection between these two, it was immediate and just what Harley needed. Given her mother's behavior, she really needed a positive role model in her life and Cade was perfect.
Jax seemed to want to do right by his daughter, now that her mother didn't want her. I liked him well enough, but he needed time to figure out how to be a father.
The story really flowed and I got caught up in it almost immediately. I even had tears running down my face (a sign of a good book to me), but not because of any drama between Cade or Jax, but more for Harley. Like I said, I was surprised how much I enjoyed her role in this story.
This is one book you will not regret taking the time to read.
Absolutely was hooked from start to finish. The way Cade came in and brought Harley out of her shell and showed not only her but also Harleys dad Jax a rock star god what love was truly about. Story line was well written character development was great over all an absolutely amazing book. You wont be disappointed.
This was actually a sweet story. Its not your typical rock and roll bad boy story. Not at all and honestly I hate those lol. I read this because I discovered this author during a Facebook event and loved the video for her book.
Harley was such an enchanting child. She's different and very wise beyond her years. She's far more mature than a typical 8 year old little girl should be. She does have a heart condition and that has a lot to do with the way she is and her mother Fiona is God awful. I mean who has their child play her PA? Yeesh. Harley can be so adult sometimes I forgot she was a child. I know some reviewers might think her character is really unbelievable. Well... you dont know many kids then. There are some very unique children out there. Admittedly this isn't totally a romance because its centers around Harley mostly. Jax and Cade to a lot of dancing around and dont necessarily get together until a bit later in the book. I know some complained how the romance wasn't a big part of it. Well...the name of the book speaks for itself. Of course I wanted the intimacy between Jax and Cade to be more detailed but it wasn't totally necessary. We got the gist and I was able to overlook it myself because of how the book flowed.
Cade was a bit complex sorta. She's been let down a lot in her life. A father who's hated her but only tolerated her because of her mother. On his deathbed throwing a curve ball at her that he's not her father. So, she goes to her father's friend to find out the truth. Mac isn't nice to her at all! He's got the information that she needs but he treats her like crap and she works for him at his security firm. He's never given her an assignment til now so she can prove herself. That one's a doozy. She meets her new assignment in Harley and its instant love and adoration for the child. Her father Jax...she's thrown for a loop and tries really hard to remain professional. She does to a point and you gotta give her props for that.
Jax is a huge rock star. He's loved by everyone and especially women. He's not sure what to think of Cade but he totally likes her and is drawn to her. He's a typical rock star but he has a sweet genuine heart and he's trying to have a relationship with his daughter after she's recently started living with him. He's trying and he wants to be a good dad but is having trouble balancing it all and having feelings for Cade.
Jax wants Cade in their lives and he refuses to let her go. He wants a family that includes Harley and Cade. What is he willing to sacrifice? Everything? Its not gonna be easy and this book is one heck of a ride! I couldnt put it down y'all! I recommend the book and I'll keep a look out on more of Ms. Quinn's work. This is her debut I believe and she did great I think for a 1st.
I've been looking forward to reading Harley for sometime now. And I can thankfully say that the patience has paid off (plus the paperback version is a gorgeous addition to my book shelf!)
Michelle's writing and way with words really brings the story of Cade, Jax and Harley to life and it's a thrilling, emotional, and in some places steamy read that I couldn't put down, nor did I want it to end.
There is sizzling chemistry between Cade and Jax (who by the way is so very swoon-worthy) and I really enjoyed the build up in their relationship.
But what I was very surprised to enjoy the most was actually the sweet relationship that Cade builds with Harley, Jax's 8 year old daughter. It's testament to Ms Quinn's writing that I ended up feeling just like Harley, wishing and hoping that the two highly influence adults in her life would have a HEA together.
I can't wait to see what's next in store for the West Coast Rock Star series - here's hoping it'll feature members of Jax's band ;)
This was my first read by this author and I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read, awesome storyline, and loved little Harley. I really liked that it wasn't all sex and drugs this book had substance. Thanks Jamie Nibarger Ellis
Cade needed to find out who her father really was so she moved from New Jersey to Vancouver to find the man she believed to be her father. That man was Mac who owned Mackinley Security. He treated Cade very badly but gave her a job anyway. He finally gave her an assignment to be the bodyguard of a rock star's daughter. She was so happy to get the high profile assignment that she didn't let the idea that she was more like a babysitter than bodyguard bother her.
Cade was a bodyguard to Harley - a very, very mature 8 year old of the famous rock star, Jax Clark. Jax had just gotten full custody of his daughter and didn't know how to raise a child but he wanted to learn. Harley was glad to be away from her mother since she treated her more like a personal assistant than a daughter and was a terrible person who was constantly going off the deep end when things didn't go her way.
Even though Cade had no experience with children she got along with Harley great and they formed a strong bond. She understood Harley better than her father did so she was soon able to bring her out of her shell so she acted like herself - an 8 year old girl.
I loved the characters, especially Harley. It was nice to see her get to be a child and have a friend to confide in. Jax was happy with his rock star life with the fame and women but he was ready to be a father to his daughter an settle down. He was a kind and thoughtful man. Even though Cade was going through her own problems she put them aside to be there for Harley and be her bodyguard.
I smiled and cried while reading Harley but I also laughed. This is a wonderful story that's well written and fast paced. It wasn't what I expected from a rock star romance at all but I really enjoyed it. I also liked the way Jax and Cade's relationship built up.
I liked Harley and glad I won it in a giveaway. You should read this book. You won't be disappointed.
Cadence 'Cade' Williams works for Mackinley Security. Her first assignment, after being there for 2yrs, is to babysit/bodyguard a rock stars 8yr old daughter, Harley. Although Harley's 8 she's small for her age due to a congenital heart defect that's affected her growth but everything else about her has aged her. Not only is she the daughter of a hot rock God but a nasty piece of work mother too. Neither have had or made the time for her. Jackson 'Jax' Clark is the rock God and now has full custody of his daughter. She's old beyond her years until Cade befriends her. Cade has another agenda to be close to the boss of Mackinley Securities, Noah. A truth and secrets from her ailing father's deathbed. Overall, the storyline was pretty good...but the execution not so much. Some of the editing was poor to start with and the actual belief that a womanizing, hot rock God would fall for his daughter's bodyguard within seconds of meeting, or the child would have such deep connections to her too??? I might've believed these transactions if not for the lack of emotions. I didn't feel one single emotion or spark through the entire book. The author raced through the story at a rate of knots...and I felt...nothing! The big secret, galvanizing her job choice, from her horrible father's deathbed was basically covered in a few paragraphs. And the 'romance' between the H/h, (which didn't really heat up until the latter part of the book), was...cold. No! Sorry, wasn't feeling it. And I really have to ask the question. But why did the sick child not have a nurse instead of a bodyguard??? Not really what I was expecting but found it free.
Okay, there are no words for this, but I'm going to try. I love this. I adore this. I think it's gorgeous, sensational, phenomenal, mind blowing, beautiful and whatever such adjectives you guys can think of. Michelle is an absolute genius! The way she's written this story gave me goosebumps. For real. All the characters are so well portrayed and they have their distinguished, individual voices. The descriptions and the scenes flow oh - so very smoothly. Also, the story develops at a fast pace which keeps the reader interested and unable to keep the book down. It all pans out beautifully to make one heck of a story. I loved it so much that I actually was hiding behind my laptop at work and reading on my phone. And, the last book I did that for was November 9. So, yeah. You get the picture. But, amazing work by Michelle! She's an amazing writer and an even more amazing person from what I have observed with the few interactions we've had on Facebook. I wish her all the very best for her next ventures and I really can't wait to see another published Michelle Jo Quinn novel! <3
Harley is the first book I have read by Michelle Jo Quinn and is a stand alone with a HEA. Like the blurb above says its about a little girl, her rock star dad and her female bodyguard/caretaker. I normally tend to shy away from a book where a child is considered the main character in the storyline that falls into the “romance” genre but this one just sounded too good to pass up. Harley was really quite an enjoyable read. I fell for her dad Jax from the beginning. He was sweet, sexy and pursued Cade (Cadence) with just enough enthusiasm to make me swoon. The storyline moved along at a fairly rapid pace and there was plenty of action and suspense to keep me interested. I received an ARC but even at that, I didnt notice any big editing errors which made for a nice, smooth read. I give Harley 4**** WickedGoodStars and would recommend it to readers who like sexy romance (without being smutty) and a nice side of action/suspense.
Cade is a bodyguard working for a man she thinks is her father. Her new assignment is 8 year old Harley who has a heart defect. Her father is rock star Jax. Cade and Jax meant and boom love at first sight. Dawdy Cade makes Jax feel things he's never felt before. From one encounter. And then they're making out. Cade forms an instantaneous bond with Harley too. Cade is just this perfect girl that everyone trips over to fall in love with. And Harley is the worlds smartest 8 year old working as a personal assistant to her socialite mom. Speaks as though she's 30 and the author makes it ok by claiming she is simply "an old soul" such BS that was too much knowledge and big words for an 8 year old. There was so much more wrong with this. But I'll just leave it at that. Not for me. And I will not be reading any more from this author either.
** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
As a writer and an avid reader of everything romance, I had many expectations when I picked this book. And a few apprehensions as after reading so many books one tends to think all romance stories are similar. On the contrary, this book is refreshingly unique. Honestly, this is the first romance book I read named after a child. I thought it odd at first but Harley won me over. Having worked in schools for over twenty years, I have met some just like her and they always managed to make their way into my heart. The author, Michelle Jo Quinn, did an amazing job with the main aspects of a novel - plot, pace, and characters. The story’s rhythm is fast and keeps you interested while the characters are likeable and believable. I highly recommend this book.
I really dont like to write negative reviews of books, but this was a no for me. There was no connection with H and h whatsoever. Harley was written weird, she was a 30 year old stuck in an 8 year old body. I literally forgot Harley's age at times because of how she acted. I get it that her mom was a POS but still it was just off. I felt the book skipped around a lot, at one point I thought I skipped some pages when in fact I did not that was the story. I honestly said "huh" and "wait what" throughout this book. I had such high hopes for this book, but nope!
I so loved the relationship between Cade and Harley. Such a sweet little girl that brings out the best in Cade as she shows her how to be a kid and enjoy life. Attached to this sweet girl is is hot rocker Jax who wants Cade for so much more than protection for his daughter. They both fall in love with Cade, but he will have to fight for her heart. I so enjoyed their story.
This was a decent book with good likeable characters, especially Harley the 8 year old girl who acted way older than she was. It was fairly predictable but I thought the reason for Cade taking the job took too long to be explained. Overall it was a good read.
I've been dying to read this since I saw the cover when it was released. However, with my out of control tbr pile I could never find the time to buy it since it would have sat on my kindle unread. However, I happened to come across it on a free day on Amazon and couldn't resist downloading it. It renewed my interest in the book and I had to make time for it.
Harley is a mixed bag of emotions for me. On one had I enjoyed it. For the most part it was a sweet read with a little romance thrown in. It did hold my interest, but on the other hand I wanted to like it more than I did after waiting so long to read it. That's not to say I didn't like and enjoy it, it just didn't live up to my hope.
The main reason for this is that it felt underdeveloped. There are a lot of plot strands in this book, yet they never seemed to flow and merge. They also didn't seem fully fleshed out. For example there's Cade and Jax's relationship, the situation with Fiona, the issues Cade has with her job and more. Individually they all had the potential to be intriguing plot threads. However, it felt like altogether they were never really expanded upon or brought into the same book. It felt a bit disjointed whereby the book skipped from one idea to another randomly.
The other reason was things fizzled out in the end. This book started strong but because of the issue above it fell apart at the end.
Overall though, I did enjoy this book. I think it has more potential and could be a great read but as it stands now it's only a good read.
Insta-love takes away the innate conflict of actually learning to love a person. Green flags are just as good for story material as red ones. Cade, Jax, Harley, Fiona, and Mac are all sketches. There are too many people that add nothing to the story. The plot is convoluted and low stakes. It needed to be stripped down to just the essentials. Then filled in with an actual love story. Either the love that grows between an absentee father who now is trying to build a relationship between himself and his daughter or a rockstar/nanny romance. Unfortunately, the writing for a genuine love story seems to be beyond Quinn's abilities. It wasn't interesting, and any time it seemed to be getting remotely interesting the scene would cut away and focus on the boring bits. There was no immersion; it was all written from a distance. Don't even pick this up.
Michelle Jo Quinn writes a story that flows so smooth, once you start it, you don’t want to stop and it pulls you along for the ride. A bad boy rock star and his bodyguard? Ok but what I loved the most is getting Harley’s perspective as well as she was the most important component. I would love to read a story in the future about Zee and Juliette as well. And the other band members. Give me more! I received an arc of this.
Rocking A Difference: A book with a difference, which I enjoyed, not your typical rock 'n roll romance story. This is a well written book with strong characters and a solid plot, it will have you shedding a tear yet also laughing. Harley, an Eight year old, Jax, the rocker who is Harley's dad, and Cade, Harley's bodyguard, form a unbreakable connection with each other. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Harley is the first book I have read by Michelle Jo Quinn. When I read the description of "a little girl, her rock star dad and her female bodyguard/caretaker", I was expecting the usual bad boy rocker romance. Not this book, however. This was a great storyline with excellent pace as well as loveable characters. It was a surprise to find not only romance but also suspense mixed in to the drama. Highly recommend
Harley is the daughter of a rock star who has been ignored or mistreated most of her young life. Finally she is brought out of her shell by Cade, her bodyguard. They form a unbreakable connection with each other. That is, until his" EX", his personal assistant, and the tabloids get in the way. Its a sweet story complete with insta-love and a HEA.
Wasn’t my cup of tea so might be a little tougher on the review. I just didn’t “feel the love” in this book. Just felt rushed I guess. I was thrown off with Harley’s POV. Since that’s the title I suppose she’d have just as big a part in the book as Cade and Jax. Just wasn’t for me. Give me more love and passion.
I loved this book it is wonderfully written and the characters are so well developed that you can't help falling in love with them all. Harley is so sweet you immediately fall in love with her. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a romance with heart.
It's an enjoyable read. It's sweet and will pull at your heartstrings. It's well written with characters you will love especially Harley. I loved the special bond and relationship between Cade and Harley. Looking forward to reading more. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This was a lovely gem I came across. At the time it was free, but definitely worth paying for. I loved everyone's P.O.V. Harley, was old beyond her years. Jackson and Cafe, had a great connection. So well written.
I loved reading this book. It was kind of fast paced, but it really worked in the story. I felt like I was there with Cade as she fell in love with Harley.
Very well written. Gotta love HEA's!! Now I hope Zee gets a story!!!
