Two high school geniuses scheme to get the other to confess their love first.
Two geniuses. Two brains. Two hearts. One battle. Who will confess their love first…?!
Will Kaguya figure out what Miyuki wants for his birthday plus present him with the perfect cake? Is treasurer Yu flunking out of school and beyond help…or can the person he fears most get him back on track? Then, the romantic Autumn Moon Viewing Festival leads to some stellar night moves. The student council plays a role-playing game in which at least one member doesn’t get to play out their fantasy. Ai assumes an alter ego to prove she can get Miyuki to fall in love with her in just one day. And Miyuki’s time as student council president is up!
”What’s going on here..? They sound like they’re quarrelling.. but they look like they’re flirting!” - this one quote from this volume pretty much sums up the whole Love Is War series succinctly lol 😅 The two main characters - Kaguya and Shirogane - frustrate me to no end. They’re both highly academically intelligent, but lack in emotional intelligence. Their stubbornness makes them this way, their romance feelings are treated like a game of chess, a battle of wits. You will end up liking the side characters here much more than the main two, but you will still be rooting for them to finally be together!
Kaguya is the vice president of their prestigious academy’s student council and she's in love with, Miyuki, the president, and he with her! BUT both are well aware that in love there is always a winner... and neither wants to be the "loser!" As both are geniuses and quite proud they spend each day laying in wait for an opportunity to get the other to confess without losing face... only Chika, their secretary and Ishigami, their treasurer, seem ready to innocently mess up their careful machinations.
Kaguya-sama Love Is War vol 6 is super cute as we see these two really are committed to each other even though neither will admit their feelings. I really love how the student council has really come out full force with their personalities and we see that through the chapter plots. I think the story gets really good when they loose sight of their extreme pride and just be themselves with each other... And I really love that both Kaguya and Miyuki are so aware of what the other is thinking, it makes their battles the best. This time Chika and Ishigami really ante up in the battles...
Kaguya never loses sight that she is trying to get Miyuki to confess in Kaguya-sama Love Is War vol 6 and that part of her personality really shines. This time its not Chika that is helping out it's Kaguya and I really love the advancement of her and Ishigami's relationship since he has been so frightened of her in the past. And I don't know why but the spying on each other is so hilarious rather than creepy. The Ai story arc with Miyuki really highlighted Ai and Kaguya's relationship in an intriguing way... not sure I would have subjected myself to that but Kaguya really is a glutton for punishment...
Miyuki has always intrigued my by having the softer personality even if he has as much pride if not more than Kaguya. His relationship with his sister is very typical but it makes for a cute distressing situation with Kaguya. When Kaguya goes overboard for Miyuki's birthday I about keeled over... this was the volume where Kaguya really responds to Miyuki's softness, his genuine expressions of interest and caring. GAHHH, its so gorgeous because Miyuki is almost taking the feminine role here softening the hardened and tough Kaguya.
I have really come to love the art, I believe that Aka Akasaka has a really unique art style. When you check out the paper versions the art is even more alive... The best thing about the art though is the expression of their inner feelings through frames in the chapter... These just about make me bust a gut!! If you want to try a manga that will sway you to love the format but you don't want to commit too hard then Kaguya-sama Love Is War vol 6 is a good place to start (or you can start with volume one! It's a perk of the manga that you can start anywhere and be captured by Kaguya and Miyuki's story!)
Kaguya-sama Love Is War vol 6 takes us to the end of Kaguya and Miyuki's time on the student council... it is a real transition in their lives and is bittersweet even though Miyuki feels particularly split about leaving them behind. What will happen to this group of friends without the responsibility of their callings? We'll have to check out the next volume to get all the drama!!

This is one of my favorite mangas everrrr! And no, it's not all about action heroes and super villains. Far from it. This is a high school love story manga! And yes, they exist. And no, they're not all childish and a waste of your precious reading time. They are precious period.
So, here's a chapter wise break down review of this volume of the series ---
Chapter 51: Kaguya Wants to Celebrate - This was the first chapter in the "President's Birthday Arc" and ohmygod! So cute! Shinomiya Kaguya wants to celebrate Shirogane's birthday but she can't confess that she remembers his birthdate or she'll seem super invested in his life (which she obviously isss). And I loved how sneakily she tried to get him to announce his upcoming birthdate so she wouldn't have to. I swear, thisss girllll.
Chapter 52: Kaguya Wants to Ask - The second chapter of the arc was kind of unexpected. Shinomiya gets to hang out with Kei (Shirogane's sister) and I was so amused at all the little similarities Kaguya kept seeing in the siblings. Some might say it was a filler episode/chapter. But I'm not some and I like Shinomiya hanging out with anyone from Shirogane's family.
Chapter 53: Kaguya Wants to Give - Ohmygod. The birthday cake. I knew Kaguya was one dramatic chick but daymmmm. That cake!!!! Of course she chickened out from giving Miyuki that cake in the end. Hahah. These two are the cutessstttt!
Chapter 54: Chika Fujiwara Wants to Confirm - Fujiwara has never been one of my favorite characters since the beginning despite being actually a fun girl. She has inadvertently come between several of Kaguya-Miyuki moments right before they could come to a head and I. aghhsxdjnj. HATED. It. But this chapter was okay-ish.
Chapter 55: Thus, Yu Ishigami Closed His Eyes, Part 1 - A filler chapter, sadly. Kaguya helps Ishigami with studying for exams. I didn't totally hate it because I do feel like poor Ishigami needs more people on the student council who are nice and friendly to him. But I did need more Miyuki. Ah well.
Chapter 56: Miyuki Shirogane Wants to Gaze - One word. STARGAZING. Ohmyheart, be still. This chapter was so starry and all things romantic and beautiful and I was just as flustered as our girl, Kaguya. Aaaahhhhhhhh. I need a guy to talk stars and constellations to me toooooo. And nooo. Despite how perfect everything was, neither of the two confessed their love to the other. Agh.
Chapter 57: Kaguya Wants to Marry - Oh this chapter was hilarious. I want to play the boardgame that the student council plays in this one too. Seemed really intriguing. Yes, I wished Kaguya and Miyuki ended up where briefly Fujiwara and Miyuki were. Ahhh. Fujiwara always ends up in the middle. Not intentionally, I know. But it's infuriating just the same.
Chapter 58: Ai Hayasaka Wants to Seduce - Why Hayasaka??? Why???? I liked you! Why would you do this??? I am not a fan of this chapter or of this plot of torturing poor Kaguya!
Chapter 59: The 67th Student Council - This chapter is from the "Chaotic Election Arc" and definitely not as great as the arc that came before but I did enjoy the Student Council reminiscing on their year of working together. The flashback of the "Sick Visit Arc" was a particular favorite because I absolutely loooved that arc. Damn the slowburn in this manga though. Agh.
Chapter 60: Kaguya Doesn't Want to Call - The "Chaotic Election Arc" continues and I'm not that into it but I sure had fun over Kaguya's inability to call Shirogane anything but his former title of "President". It brought back memories of this other novel I'd read last month, Divine Rivals and how the MCs of that story rarely said each other's names because well, first names just feel too intimate. Don't ask me why. They just do.
We seem to have moved beyond the initial premise, that the lead boy and girl are each scheming to get the other to confess their love, and moved on to... what? At this point, they're avoiding confessing for no real reason that I can fathom. Still, their stumbling and blushing is very cute. Everybody is very cute!
This is easy-reading, pleasant comedy, but I don't think there's much to it beyond that.
Holy shit, this volume was hilarious yet heartwarming at the same time! I loved seeing Kaguya stand up for Ishigami and stand by her word to help him. I loved Ishigami's reactions to Kaguya's admittedly terrifying speech and behavior when she approached him to help with his studies, and I loved her reaction after he got his results. She's such an awesome character and I love her too much!
The board game chapter was fun and seeing everyone's reactions never got old. The chapters signaling the end of the student council were equal parts hilarious yet disheartening. Seeing a group of people who, for all their faults and feelings, really enjoyed their time together now having to disband was sad. But of course, we get that cliffhanger that keeps my hopes up and I'm certainly not going to complain about that!
Another great volume that was equal parts emotional and amusing, an absolute joy to read!
The battle is getting fierce as the end of the school year approaches. Firstly, Kaguya has to figure out how to celebrate Shirogane's birthday without making it seem like she cares too much. Obviously she goes overboard first (and then Ai has to bring her down), but the twist in the next chapter as either side tries to make it seem like the other cared a lot was intersting - sometimes I feel Shirogane can barely hold his own when it comes to matching wits against Kaguya's manipulations. Speaking of Ai, she has become frustrated with the lack of progress on Kaguya's behalf, so it was fun to see her try to flirt with Shirogane.
Another interesting interaction was between Kaguya and Yu, as she tries to save him from flunking and being held back a year - he initially thinks she is just doing it to torture him, with his 'vision' of the events showing her as a sadistic person, complete with a whip. (I honestly love how he is utterly terrified of her!) Shirogane shows that his enthusiastic nerd side has more game than his regular serious kid facade, as he flusters Kaguya during an Autumnal moon viewing. The end of the school year was being played off seriously as a game changer, but then it fizzled out, which was a shame. I wanted to see how their flirtations would survive in other school settings, too!
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review from Viz Media LLC, via Edelweiss.
I read this volume in very widely spaced spurts, so I really don’t have a good idea of the contents of this book as a whole. Nonetheless, I’ll try my best as I do with all my reviews.
This volume started out with another arc! It was about Kaguya freaking out about Miyuki Shirogane’s birthday, which was fun. This volume brought out more cute moments between the two extremely stubborn lovebirds, and they made me scream out loud just as much as they made Kaguya scream internally. I enjoy these moments a lot, and continue to look forward to seeing the progression of their relationship, slow as it is. Besides the arc, there were also the usual chapters with one-off storylines which were a blast to read as always.
This volume was even more unique in how it ended. This might be a bit of a spoiler, I don’t know. But it really surprised me and felt like it came right out of nowhere, and I’m still slightly confused. It was all super dramatic and emotional. It felt like they were setting up for the end of the series, except if it was then it would have been extremely unsatisfying just because of how out of nowhere it seemed. If it had been paced properly, it could have actually been a really emotional and maybe even satisfying conclusion to the series. So good thing it wasn’t the actual ending. It was still kinda weird how dramatic the author made it though, especially for something that’s literally not even gonna impact anything in the story. Like literally nothing is going to change from this. Whatever.
Good volume as always. I’ll just carry the five-star rating I gave to the last volume over to this one, since I really have no idea what to rate it.
Please consider giving this review a "Like" if you've made it this far, it helps me out a lot! And follow me if you want more!

Pretty much all of the problems in this series is because the characters overthink everything. Kaguya and Miyuki both want something, but want the other person to admit it first, and thus they overthink everything they say, and everything the other person says, and how to react and what reaction that will cause. It's gone so far beyond a game between them at this point, I think. There are some light chapters in the beginning, including a girls' day out, and some conflict/helpful studying between Kaguya and Ishigami. And also Ai pushes Kaguya regarding how little progress she's made with Miyuki. But then it's time for a new student council to take over, as they're going on to becoming third years. Which means they could try again, or there could be new people in their roles. The reactions and the relationships are a bit ridiculous in this series. It's a lot of fun to follow.
A review copy was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, for an honest review. Thank you so, so much!
“The home visit, the fireworks, the birthday, and the moon-gazing. How do you explain all these events happening and still not making *any* progress?" - Hayasaka, Chapter 58
Longer Review: I took a break from this series to try reading some different manga, but I decided to return to it and start slowly adding more volumes to my list of books to read. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the manga as much as before now that I have read a few other genres (Takagi San no moto, Monster, Nagatoro) and I also was not sure if perhaps it would be difficult to get invested after a break since reading the previous volume. However, none of these concerns proved true. The opening chapter I feel was a perfect way to get reinvested because it was a reminder of the setting between our main characters and the views of others outside of that main circle. Each chapter afterwards continues to develop the story and our main characters. I really enjoyed the volume. If there was one complaint about this volume, I would say that near the end of the volume there is a bit of reminiscing that may mean less to someone starting the series here (granted, you could also argue that they should start at volume 1, but that's a whole other argument). However, as a returning reader who had taken a bit of a break it was actually quite refreshing to have this recalls to previous volumes. This volume will have you laughing with each passing chapter I think (especially if you liked the previous ones). It also could be started here without reading the previous volumes, but I would still recommend going back and reading the previous ones.
Book: Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, Vol. 6 Author: Aka Akasaka Rating: 3 Out of 5 Stars
If I am being completely honest, I just didn’t care for this volume. I felt that a lot of the humour that has been making this manga stand out for me was missing from this volume. I thought that getting more characters would have made me a little bit excited. However, I am finding myself missing when it was just Kaguya and Miyuki with their little games. My library has the first twelve volumes of this series. I will read them and see if I want to track down the rest of them.
I felt like we have moved away from the core idea of the series in this one. It feels like Kaguya and Miyuki have somewhat given up on trying to make the other one admit that they are in love with them. Even the battle victories are not centred around them. It makes me sad because I enjoyed this. I enjoyed seeing our two leads trying to get the other one to fall in love with them. It’s not that I am against adding other characters, but it kind of feels like they are taking away from the original story.
This volume focuses mainly on the end of the school year. The student council is coming to an end and now the characters have to figure out how to handle it. We see them go back over their memories from this year and reflect on those little moments. I found this to be on the charming side. It brings up things that readers may have forgotten about. It’s a nice way to recap all that has happened up until this point. There are also the characters trying to figure out a birthday gift, which was very amusing to me. I don’t know, but seeing characters struggle with gifting brings me such joy. It could be because this is something that I struggle with. This makes the characters all that much more retable to me.
Again, I am still in love with the simple artwork. I feel like I say this with every review for this series. The simple artwork works for the story that the author is trying to tell. A more complex style would not work.
Overall, this is my least favourite of the series so far. I am still going to be going on and seeing what happens next.
Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Volume 6 was such a fun read! I really love this series and it's always fun to catch up to these characters. In this volume, someone else catches onto the feelings between Kaguya and Miyuki, we also get some quality Kaguya/Miyuki time, especially with Miyuki's birthday being celebrated (but poor Chika!) but also interactions between all the friends (which I enjoy). In this volume we get to see some more Yu and Kaguya interaction, which I really liked. We also got to see Miyuki with his guard down, he can be a real charmer when he's not overthinking it. Overall, I really enjoy this volume and this series. I look forward to seeing what happens next!
4/5 stars??? I really enjoyed this volume, even to the point where I am questioning if it really is my fave? I keep forgetting what happens in each chapter after I finish reading the whole volume *face palm* Still, I could remember all those fangirling moments like me rolling on the floor, and covering my face out of blushing intensely; therefore I ended up with a smile on my face and utterly excited to read the next complilation of chapters. We are getting there, guys :)
Aside from a little spelling error I found in the last chapter, this volume was just as great as the others. We see a small chapter from the first season's anime, while there is plenty more fresh ideas abound from the mangaka. I especially liked Battle 56, as it goes to show how much those two drive each other up a wall! But, agh, that ending! I'm so eager to read the next book where we get more characters and zaniness!
This feels like a crucial volume, because the combatants are getting sloppier and sloppier about showing their feelings. It feels inevitable that the “war” will soon have its Waterloo. I found some fantastic laughs in this one. Sometimes Kaguya’s neurotic behavior feels like it belongs in a Seinfeld episode.
These volumes never fail to charm me. Also, the little Maki feature on the cover is everything!!! I can't wait to own the volume where it is just her front and center. I read this for the reading rush. This fulfilled the challenge of reading outside. I am privileged enough to have a backyard so I was able to do it in the morning before it got too hot.
it cannot be helped- that we do have some calculated moves when it comes to our crushes.. those stolen glances, how I know when he’s at the gym even when I’m busy dancing zumba in the gx studio, how I deliberatly chose to wear something decent on tuesdays coz I know its his only class.. we all do it guys! and there’s no shame on that at all! 🙌🏻😽🫶🏻
The cat and mouse game continues between the main characters (Kaguya and Shirogane). Some may feel frustrated, but to me that is exactly what makes the book so entertaining. Without it, it probably loses all of its identity...or at least a good chunk of it. The characters outside of the main two, continue to be the spice of life and add an extra layer of enjoyment to each and every situation.
There is so much to love about this volume! It feels like there is some movement away from the initial war between the two but yet they still fight for control
Love the way all the other characters interact with each other too!
