It's a complicated murder mystery taking place in four isolated villages with a decent ending. The final explanation to the mystery of the river water God and the strange rituals surrounding the deity, ominous family secrets and cursed bloodline within the ruling family of the villages and the serial murder of the priests is pretty good, but it isn't very outstanding.

因為箇中線索與日語有關，而翻譯又不怎麼樣（已考慮翻譯此書的難度），所以閱讀障礙不小；加上年紀漸大，記憶力不足，人名與地名又多，所以讀起來相當不爽。幸好，當中詭計和反轉，仍是十足的三津田信三，令人愜意。能奪第十屆本格推理大獎，是實至名歸的。

要是不怕譯文有時頗難理解，這書值得一讀。
