Maxwell “Gunner” Wesson is the loose cannon of the Brazen Bulls MC. A loss taken when he was a boy left a hole inside him, full of chaos and noise, and only pain and destruction can quiet the tempest. Full of courage and fiercely loyal, he has the Bulls at his back, even when his outbursts threaten to damage the club.
But the club president’s patience is wearing thin. Gun’s lack of control has put the Bulls on the front lines of a brewing war, right in the heart of Tulsa.
Leah Campbell is a small-town girl, living the life her mother walked away from. She takes care of her father, the town minister, and keeps his secrets, ensuring that he keeps his place as the moral and spiritual center of their community. But Leah has secrets of her own, and she’s faltering under the weight of all the things she cannot say, and all the things she must be and do to keep the truth at bay. She’s filled the hole her mother made, but it’s left her empty.
When two such damaged souls, full of secrets and empty of hope, come together, they will either save each other or tear everything apart.
I was born and raised in the Midwest, but I was transplanted into the dusty soil of Northern California and have apparently taken root there. An inveterate geek and gamer, I am a fan of many things considered pop culture and maybe even lowbrow.
As a reader, my favorite genres are science fiction and fantasy, but as a writer, I've found my home in romance--or perhaps it's better to say simply "love stories." I have a yen to try other genres, too, at some point, but for now my muse wants to tell stories about lovers and families.
I write for the joy of it, and I write stories that I want to read. If others like them, too, that's just the cherry on top. I’m not interested in rules and formulae. I follow my muse and my characters and let them take me where they want to go, wherever that might be. I like big emotions, dark and light.
I like complicated characters with flaws and weaknesses as well as strengths, and I like each character’s strengths and weaknesses to be different from those of other characters. I’m much more concerned that my characters be interesting and diverse than that they be widely considered to be likable. I try to create people, not types.
Likewise, I want my stories each to be distinct from the others. Once I’ve told a story, I don’t want to tell it again. So even within a series, one of my books might be very different from the next. Some might be very dark, others equally mild.
That isn’t to say there aren’t trends and recurrences in my work. I’m drawn to certain themes and settings, and my muse has her favorite toys and tools. But I guard against those tendencies becoming a formula.
A note: I don't spend much time here on Goodreads. I try not to read any reviews of my own work. Besides, this is a site for readers, but since I write at a fairly manic pace, and read and edit for other writers, I don't have much time to read recreationally. Mainly, I log on to update my info. So if you message me here, it might be a while before I see it.
Susan Fanetti's motorcycle books capture the essence of belonging to something bigger than yourself. Being a part of club life equates to being in a family that binds these bikers together. “I got your back.” Those aren't just meaningless words spoken among the members of Brazen Bulls but something they live and die by.
TWIST is more than merely a title of this story it’s both a physical and a mental theme that runs throughout the story. Being twisted up inside your own head because of loss and loneliness, and twisted up because a tornado has wreaked havoc on your life leads to trying to find outlets for the emptiness that rules your life.
Gunner & Leah are two souls searching to fill the void left in their life with something that will make them feel whole again. Each has their own struggles that they’ve kept hidden from the world.
To take that leap of faith and believe that the other person will be there to catch you is monumental. To be freed of your demons and move forward is not an overnight adventure. Their journey starts out with heartache and overtime progresses to one of inner peace. The ability to find contentment within their situation is a beautiful process to watch these two go through.
Leah is 19 years old and living at home with her dad. She’s the Preacher’s Daughter. “The Good Girl.” It’s a lot of pressure for her to live up to those high standards put on her by her father and his congregation.
Gunner is 28 years old and is wild. He searches out physical pain to let out his inner turmoil. He’s on a short leash with the Bulls because he’s gotten them tangled up in business they could have avoided had he known another way to control his inner beast.
TWIST has a scene in the beginning that gave me pause. I quickly messaged Kim and said, "X just happened!" Kim’s excitement was the counter to my what have I gotten myself into?! *lol* I love how certain things in books can be one person’s thrill and another person’s holy moly. Once you read the scene you’ll know what I’m referring to. :)
The overall arc that flows through Brazen Bulls series is one I love. At its core is being part of a “family” where everyone belongs. In good times and bad, the club supports each other. You can read this series without having read any of the other MC series Ms. Fanetti has written, so far. This series is set back, in time, before her other series … in 90’s.

4 Being Your Person Stars * * * * Spoiler Free I think the power of Susan Fanetti's writing is how she can take a situation... people you might see and think nothing of them...and dive deep to show their power and strength. She does this in all of her books. In this current series, Brazen Bulls MC, she goes back in time to 1996. She is using the motorcycle club as the hub and with that, you might think I am off base when saying she uses everyday people.
But in the world we live and also back then, MC clubs are real and everyday for those in them. We, in cities, in the hub of major areas, may only catch a glimpse when on the highways or when a rider is on the road next to us...But in the vast country and towns all over... they are there and they functioned then in 1996 and now, as family for so many.
And it is this base, this understanding which makes Fanetti MC books powerful to me. She does not make things glossy or pretty. Her books are not "Hollywood MC"... they read true to their times...true to the people who are in them... and gives us insight to how every day people can be heroes living their lives without fanfare.
Twist focuses in on Gunner, a member of the Bulls who has the rep of flipping out of control in an instant. He recently messed up at the bar in town by destroying the place and crossing with a enemy club member. He has been paying the price for it; keeping his head on straight. Working for peanuts at the mechanic shop with all of his "club" money paying off his massive debt to the bar. He has been working hard to hold everything in and not go off. He knows if he does anything else... he will lose everything... he will be kicked out of the club....
Leah Campbell is trying to hold it together, too. Just like Gunner, she has been tagged with a label she hates, Preacher's Daughter. She has been fighting this image secretly with a recklessness that frees her in the moment and then leaves her just as quickly as it comes. She has been thrust with responsibilities a wife handles...but due to her mother leaving her father and her long ago... that mantle has sat on her shoulders for far too long.
These two people crossed paths when they were much younger...when Gunner was almost out of high school and Leah was in grade school. At the time, Gunner was the star athlete who was focused on just getting out of school and away. He had already experienced the pain of loss... devastating loss and somehow managed to pretend for a time he was fine.
And then he wasn't...his way of being centered was gone and he felt like he was always twisting in the wind...The town turned on him, his reputation shot and in a small religious town with a lot of gossip and judging...it can make a huge impact.
Leah also was stuck... she had a home life none of the people could imagine. Her father was not the holy man they thought once he gave his sermons and counseling. He would get home and drink his pain away ...leaving Leah to clean up the mess, get him ready for the next day as if nothing had happened.
When these two lost but barely coping people collide, they are doing what they do to escape all the pressure and negativity.... they are numbing themselves with party drugs. Gunner and Leah connect on a level which turns out to be so much more than a hook up...It crosses over the drugged haze and makes an imprint..
Leah doesn't look anything like she usually does... and behaves Nothing Like Preacher's Daughter...she does stand out in Gunner's head long after the rave... he thinks of her as his Sparkle Fairy...
Gunner left a huge impression on Leah, too... for even though she was high... there was this moment when for the first time she felt safe...Crazy, she knows...especially give the circumstances... but wrapped in this huge man's arms... it was like being held and cared for...
These two connect again under very different circumstances. Leah is in her usual position of being attentive and helpful with the Church Ladies collecting donated clothing from a Charity Church Drive. Gunner is there with his sister and dad. He was asked to help unload their boxes. When he brings them over to where Leah is, he does not recognize her as His Sparkle Fairy...her remembers her as The Preacher's Daughter....But she remembers him as her "Safe Man"...
An incident happens at this gathering which sets Gunner off... When this happens, he loses all control; he blindly lashes out to those he wouldn't want to hurt because he becomes so clouded in his head. Leah sees this and instead of being afraid like everyone else... she sees something else... she sees a man lost and hurt.
Fanetti takes these two damaged people and has them be the remedy for each of their pain. Leah, young as a 19 year old is.... has been handling ugly life issues for quite some time. It has left her mature in taking care of others but immature in knowing what she wants to do with her life. She feels she is stuck...and it is only once she develops this relationship with Gunner where she starts to see herself as a person who deserves to live a life of her own making. Gunner gives her the courage to stand up to her father and let him decide it he will love her the way she is... not the way he wants her to be.
Gunner finds in Leah a safe haven... her ability to have him focus on her when his mind is racing and out of control. She brings him back to reality. Gunner has been carrying so much pain and loss. With Leah as a steady comfort to him, he is able to finally see what has been torturing him and starts to let it go.
These two are an unlikely pair but are so right for each other. They both have their own heroic moments... and they occur as everyday people... not superheroes.
We also get in this entry more Bulls and insight as to what this club has to deal with. It is not pretty... it is violent and their reality. Family and Brotherhood is everything in this world and the relationship Gunner has with another, Maverick, is critical. It is touching and sets up the next entry.
From what we have been given, I sense this will be something very special.
Wow!!!! What a beautiful, and wild ride TWIST was. This series is proving to be just as good, if not even better, dare I say, than the previous Susan Fanetti MC books. I was taken away by the intensity of this story. Gunner was everything I love in a male MC; broken, a little lost, and a whole lot of sexy. I would happily take Gun's flame, so he can claim me as his, any day. I LOVE HIM!!!!
If you are a Susan Fanetti fan, or a lover of well written MC themed books, these new series has everything!!! Angst, romance, and explosive plots that are simply irresistible.
Gunner is lost in a world where the only thing that calms him down is pain and violence. His anchor is his club, but even they don't know how to deal with Gunner's wild ways.
Gunner has a lot of secrets and a very painful past he never really dealt with. He's been ignoring the whole inside his heart and simply punishing himself with pain.
Leah Campbell is the preachers daughter. By day she takes care of her dad, and serves his congregation but by night she goes wild, and escapes into a world of drugs and sex. From a young age Leah has been carrying with a lot secrets that weight heavy on her, and now at nineteen years old she really doesn't even know who she really is.
Leah and Gunner know each other from the church when they both were kids. But after a tragedy broke Gunner's life in half he never went back to his family's town. One crazy night they see each other again at a rave and share something neither of them will ever forget, something so special that will be a tiny light that will guide them into healing and hope for a better future.
Both Leah and Gunner felt lost and broken but when they are together, life makes sense for the very first time in their lives. When these two are together a beautiful chaos erupts around them but they feel loved, safe. The Brazen Bulls love Gunner and they are always there to support him but even they know he needs something more, something only Leah can give him.
I'm addicted to Susan Fanetti's stories. They feel so real and so overwhelmenly beautiful that I simply can't get enough. Do yourself a favor, and read this book or any book by her for that matter. You will be blown away and get hooked, forever...
Twist is the second book of the Brazen Bulls series and man was it a good one. Maxwell Gunner caught my attention in book 1 with his dark demons and he sure had a reason for acting out. It was interesting to see why and how he kept those dark thoughts at bay and calm. At first I struggled with Leah because of her young age. She came off as very naive but she went through so much growth and her transformation made me a huge fan of hers. Her and Gunner was such a great couple and complemented each other perfectly. He gave her a new family and life whereas Leah calmed and centered Gunner and gave him a new life purpose. I’m so excited about this series and ready for the next Bull.
June 2023 - series re-read June 2020 - Gunner and Leah are two of the most vulnerable characters ever. Their story hits home and it hits hard. There's so much to love about their story and the club story.
5 ”Will you take care of me?” Stars
Susan Fanetti’s second book, Twist, of the Brazen Bulls MC series satisfies every romance and MC craving I have. I love MC romance books and especially those written by this author. With each book she’s published not matter how different the plots and circumstances of relationship there’s been a level of consistency in the underlying message of each story that I cannot get enough of in her brilliant writing which basically equates to keep on moving forward - in my laymen terms.
No matter the torture her characters deal with, whether emotional or physical or both, Susan Fanetti always shines a light on their purpose and their strength. Purpose seems quite fitting for the story of Gunner and Leah because neither of them quite understand theirs and what it means to have purpose until they find each other. Through this each of them expose vulnerabilities creating a bond between the two instantaneously. And that word, strength, always comes up in my reviews for this author. I bet I’ve said it at least 200 times over the course of 25+ books. It’s so important in this author’s work. She highlights all different kinds of strength in a myriad of ways through every single one of her characters.
Gunner and Leah are no different in Twist. Each of them possess a strength unique to themselves and each other. They see something in each other they haven’t seen before which brings to the forefront how strong they truly are and how they can navigate the murky waters of life while breathing just a little easier. As I mentioned above, their each vulnerable in different ways so when they meet in the middle of that precarious tether binding them it’s with a sigh of relief. Protective, loyal, and fierce both of them feel so much, whether they be positive or negative feelings. Separate, their individual head spaces are a mess but together the strength of their connection is palpable.
Connection. Another good word to use while trying to explain Fanetti stories. She creates perfectly matched characters. Doubt never emerges from a Fanetti reader about the two main characters of her stories because she creates undeniable chemistry between them always. Whether their connection is a subdued place of calm or frantically buzzing with static, like Gunner and Leah, that point where the two meet is always safe and reassuring even if the world around them is unsafe and chaotic. The connection is always a place of energy to draw more strength from and it’s always pulsing with passion.
”She’d come to know him well – his tastes, his needs, his moods. His secrets.”
These two have hurdles to jump and a mountain of issues to climb but it’s a fast-paced, charged romance that feeds off the volatile cycle of emotions Gunner lives with every day. Leah’s charm comes from her naivety helping to break those cycles of violence within Gunner’s mind with just a simple touch to slow his pulse. The effect translates through the characters to the reader’s hands making you feel just as alive as they do through their shared experience. As my title quote suggests – both Gunner and Leah crave someone to take care of and for that same feeling to be projected back to them.
The writing style of Susan Fanetti never ceases to awe me. She’s subtly changing things about her structure that I’ve noticed and loved. More gripping transitions and slight variations with her plot changes in Twist created a wonderful new awareness of the story and the writing. However the foundation of her stories remains wholly intact. It’s blissful to me to read stories like this with such turmoil and violence embedded in loyalty and family. Twist reveals a few different kinds of family and how they affect our upbringing and our dreams. My immersion into Fanetti worlds always feels complete and it was no different with Gunner and Leah. And like always I urge readers who love gritty, real, honest emotions with their intelligent romance to try this author’s work.
My 5 star review of the Brazen Bulls: Book One: Crash
Another good one in this series. Each can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend to read them in the right order since previously "followed" characters make an appearance in the serie.
The Bulls are back!, and I was SO happy it was Gunners turn. He was such a wild card in book 1. I was expecting so much to go off in his story - which it did, perfectly.
He's such a misunderstood man, and when I got to the reasoning behind his behavior, I was so sad for him, what he'd lost and endured, and the pain?, poor Gunner. Who knew that "The Preacher's Daughter" would be the one to take on this mammoth man and his baggage.
Leah, the sparkle fairy....don't call her baby!. What a kind natured character she was, the Preacher's Daughter. She's living a double life that her father can never find out about, but it turns out she's not the only one leading a double life. Secrets in spades.
What I loved so much about Twist was the heart, it had SO much heart and sense of family, which is a given with a SF book.
A man who had simply lost his way, lost his anchor. He just needed to see beyond the pain.
Twist was the second book in the Brazen Bulls MC by Susan Fanetti.
Maxwell "Gunner" Wesson was 28 and broken by a loss at 16 that could never be replaced. The world thought he was just crazy but I loved getting to know his story. It was told in a dual POV, but his perspective brought so much insight and empathy to his character.
Leah Grace Campbell was 19 and was known as the Preacher's Daughter. However, most didn't know the family secrets and double lives that existed within her home growing up.
Gunner and Leah grew up in the same small town of Grant, OK but with the big age difference they only slightly crossed paths. And when Gunner left for the military he never looked back except to visit his family. With Leah's nightly jaunts, she couldn't play in her hometown so she traveled to neighboring towns for her fun, thus running into Gunner, but this time as a woman versus a young girl.
I wasn't necessarily thrilled with the time period and going back into the mid nineties, but once the story developed, I was hooked. Additionally, the beginning was a little difficult for me but it was vital in setting the stage for the overall storyline. Once they were a couple and began attacking their demons together, I loved the story. It was a journey of bonding, healing, acceptance and forever love. It was emotional and I felt the connection.
I also liked the MC secondary story. It was confusing at times trying to keep up with their plot, but the additional saga brought suspense and intrigue to the overall storyline which ultimately added depth and dimension.
Although it was a fairly long book, once I got through the beginning, it read quickly. It was enjoyable and I can't wait to read the next in the series, Slam, focusing on Maverick. So far what we learned was heartbreaking and I can't wait to see the path Fanetti leads us down.
So good! I loved the big difference in theyre lives. She’s a preacher daughter and he is the most troubled mc brother. It was raw and gritty but the love. Oh the love. Great book again!
Well The author has written another book that takes you deep into a complex love between the not so innocent preacher's daughter and a man who has so many emotional issues it boggles your mind. I liked the characters and hope that Maverick's book is next. I do recommend this book if you're a fan of the Freak Circle Press authors. My final rating was 3.5
I really wanted to give this book a zero. But it is very well written...it is very complicated....and it is very dark.
After reading Slam and Crash I had really high expectations for Twist.... I was wrong.
I have never quite not liked a heroine as much as I do not like Leah....yeah she has demons...but to do what she did....ummm No...no real reason for it unless she just hated herself that much.... so yeah... I don't like her.
Gunner...he is sad and messed up. He has real demons and real tragedy....that explains a lot about what makes him tick...
I just didn't buy their love story. I didn't like it.
Susan Fanetti is a great writer because I have to give her cudo's for making me read a story that I hate and give her 4 stars for it. I really hope that the next one is lighter and the main characters not quite so ugly.
I really, really don't like this one. I'm so disappointed. I even pre-ordered this. Sad ...
Why? Well, I love a character driven story. Here, I didn't like anything I read.
I don't like Gunner. I don't like Leah. Normally, this author creates a pretty tight story, solid characters, that engage the reader pretty early and keeps them engaged. This one though, just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It really is a hot mess and I gave up at 50%. I hated it. I didn't care what happened to these two and just wanted it to end. Just stupid story with stupid people. Very trite ... not what I expect from this author. And, oh, by the way? Oklahoma does have tornadoes, but they don't hit and devastate people in separate incidents so close together often -- nothing in the Tulsa area with fatalities in a very, very long time. I live here and should know. Fiction, but get it right if you are going to tell it. Just a crap story and premise.
I had to put it down and chalk it up as a huge waste of time.
Whew!! I feel better. I didn't think the first one in this series very good. I hate this one. So far, this series isn't off to a great start for me. I will not pre-order the next one. I'll wait to see what others think first. Good luck with this one.
Wow this started off slow but then it twisted into a darn good story.
Gunner, my what a complicated guy. He really is tied up in knots and can't seem to untie them. He makes my heartbreak with everything he has gone through.
Leah too has so many issues. She definitely got the short end of the stick in a small town. The preacher's daughter is not a good place to be.
Together though they find their way and make a life for themselves beyond their issues.
I didn't like all the drug use at the beginning , but it wasn't carried through the story.
Lots of sexy times..LOTS.
Can't wait to see who the next book is going to be about! Great read!
The first time I read this I gave it 4 stars. I couldn't look past all the drugs and violence that surrounded the main characters to see what was really happening. Perhaps the second time around I was in a different frame of mind, I'm not sure but I really loved it this time around. They - Gunner and Leah - are lost souls that found each other. From a young age Leah lived the life of an adult - taking care of her disconnected alcoholic father. As for Gunner he literally lost his other half and couldn't find his way through life alone. I kept reminding myself that Leah was only 19 years old when this started and although she had to be an "adult" far before she should have she was still a naive, confused little girl most of the time. She was also very strong and was quite admirable with some of the decisions she made and how she behaved. Gunner made me laugh a lot and my heart went out to him. Together they were perfect for each other and he finally found his other half again - just in a different form.
As always, I really enjoy reading anything SF puts out there. Anything. This book was no different, though I realized a bit early on that I was having trouble relating to both characters , but I was still engaged throughout the book and was rooting for them to be what the other needed, and I'm still very much looking forward to the next book in the series. I'm really hoping it is about Maverick - already feel like his story is going to be one that I love!!
I kind of didn't know how to take this. I liked it a lot, but had some WTF too. It speaks to Susan's writing that I could be engrossed by characters that sometimes didn't get at all. Would give this 3 1/2 stars if possible.
Twist, the second book in Susan Fanetti’s Brazen Bulls MC series may be some of her finest work to date. She’s taken what could have been a familiar cliche’ of the stereotypical bad boy and the preacher’s daughter, and instead written a fresh, mesmerizing tale of two damaged souls coming together, to both ease, heal and strengthen each other’s hearts, minds and lives. She stays true to the theme that the family you choose to love and find a place with, is often better than the one you’re born into. There’s plenty of MC club life and lots of interaction between the Brothers and Old Ladies. Getting to know the Bulls, their interaction with the Night Horde and other clubs is fascinating. This may seem warped to some, but Twist’s opening scenes had me both laughing out loud while simultaneously cringing. Gunner is funny as hell! It’s one of the best entries into a novel I’ve ever read. It pulls you in like a scene from a Tarantino movie. His phone to call to Radical had me in stitches. I knew I was in for a wild ride! As with all Fanetti’s characters, Gunnar’s complexity, along with his likeability is a pleasure to read. Her writing, as usual, is outstanding. The journey Fanetti takes us onto the 1990’s, is vivid and realistic. The Raves, drugs, fashion (I hated those short peasant dresses) music, pop culture references, lack of tech, are on the mark and enhance the plot and character development. I remember it fondly! Now onto Leah. I liked her. A lot. She’s interesting, sweet and smart. Beautiful and good. Responsible and miserable. Dirty and sinful. Strong and loving. And totally co-dependent. She was real. Her relationship with Gunner was plausible and engrossing. This book’s dedication sums up all that is Leah. (Please go back and read it if you’ve skipped over it). I felt like I knew her. That again is Susan Fanetti’s extraordinary talent. There are some very interesting supporting character’s in both Crash and Twist, and I am very interested in getting to know them. I care about them already. Delaney and Mo, Maverick, whose relationship with Gunner had me in tears. But what’s a Susan Fanetti book without a good cry? Right? I loved this book and I am anxiously waiting for Brazen Bulls Book 3.
Nobody does MC romance like Susan Fanetti...nobody. Written in her inimitable style, she made me feel for the mostly unlikable Gunner and Leah. These were 2 people who'd had a rough ride (no pun intended!) for most of their lives. Amazing how Fanetti can make 2 unlikely souls fit together so well.
There's something comforting about starting a book by an author when you know you're going to live it. Gun and Leah are an unlikely couple but it works so well.
Love the glimpses of the early Night Horde MC characters. The happenings in that series were covered in their books, but this is an extra bit of quick interaction that alludes to the tension between volatile Big Ike and Isaac Lunden, as Isaac has grown up and is shaking off his father's brutality and rigid control. Showdown also makes an appearance.
The characters in Ms Fanetti's books are so believable. None of them are cookie-cutters and they are the sort of damaged or misfit people one would expect in the MC world - good and bad.
There's plenty of drama to spare in this book. I can't wait for the next one.
I have nothing against a nineteen year old girl going out, partying, having fun. Doing drugs and sneaking out...well that's part of being a rebellious teen. Those things are semi normal..thing is that Leah was just plain nasty. Yeah she's nineteen and allowed to have all the sex she wants but when you are so high that all you do is fuck random men, not only fuck random men but do it without protection, just because you're on the pill..well shit, that makes you nasty and just plain fucking stupid! Because if you don't know, at nineteen, that the pill only protects against pregnancy but not STDs..you deserve whatever you catch! Stupid little girl!
I really wanted to like Leah's character, I guess I just tolerated her character because she was sweet and thoughtful, but just so young acting. Old soul my ass, that doesn't describe her at all, there was nothing old soul about her. She was a young, immature, naive little girl playing adult. I swear she spent almost the entire book saying, 'I don't understand'...I didn't know if it was because to some extent she was really sheltered as a preachers daughter or she was just stupid. Either way her character wasn't really likable. It was so hard for me to identify with her character.
Gunnar was just, well how can I put this? Yeah..he was a hot fucking mess multiplied by a thousand. The boy had serious issues. Thing is he kept harping on the fact that Leah was only nineteen, to young for him, but he went after her hard regardless. Stop faking the funk and just be with her, stop making up weak excuses only to turn around and be with her anyway. I expect that from a female, not a twenty eight year old man. The age difference wasn't bad anyway, so why all the fuss..
In any case, while I thoroughly enjoyed book one, this book sadly missed its mark. There was just nothing enjoyable about Leah and Gunnar's story, except the quick peek we get yet once again of the Night Horde and a very young but no less intimidating Isaac and Showdown. I'm hoping book three is better with fun and exciting characters like Rad and Willa.
It started out OK. Leah is the 19 year old Baptist preacher's daughter who leads a double life. Her mother abandoned her and her father when she was 9 and her father is an alcoholic so she has issues. During the day she's a sweet preacher's daughter and at night she sneaks out to go to parties and raves where she drinks does drugs and has lots of wild sex. Gunner is a member of the Brazen Bulls. He's messed up because his mother and twin brother were killed by a tornado and he was the only survivor. He likes pain and has anger issues.
These two were an unlikely couple. It felt that way reading as well. Susan Fanetti is a good author and she does a great job with the depth of her characters. I just couldn't see these two sticking it out for the long haul. I felt like they were using each other and mistaking it for true affection. There were parts of the book that were slow for me. Probably because of all the internal character dialog.
Really great MC book but not very focused on MC life. Great characters: a mostly sheltered preacher daughter (Leah) who is caring for her alcoholic preacher father, and an extremely dyslexic, very smart car mechanic and weapons expert (Gunner) who lost his twin brother and mother in a tornado
I was in the mood for an MC / Biker Romance and this one was just what I was after :)
Good golly Miss Molly, Twist was just the kind of book I was in the mood to read. Max 'Gunner' Wesson and Leah 'The Preacher's Daughter' Campbell on the surface were two of the most unlikely people to get into a relationship. Dig a little deeper and these two lost souls had more in common than even they realised.
Classic story of a good girl leading a very different life to what the people close to her imagined. Well, all except her neighbour Ashley, who was her partner in crime so to speak. When Leah and her friend Ashley went out to party, they thought they were partying hard. In my mind they were, but when the hit the Brazen Bulls MC party, they realised they had no idea what partying hard really meant!
While partying, Leah got down and dirty with Max while both of them were flying high on party drugs at a Rave in their local town. With Gunner not living local these days, neither of them recognised the other. They both had one of the best experiences of their lives.
Kind of a shame to put a figure like that on a good girl.
If there was a God, he had a fucked-up sense of humor.
When they meet again, Leah is mortified but Gunner didn't notice she was the same girl from the Rave. He notices her alright but not as having met her in the biblical sense before. She gets to witness Gunner out of control, furious and lashing out at his family. Everyone else sees a man doing wrong but Leah feels his pain and her curiousity in him deepens.
Life hasn't gone easy on either Leah or Gunner and their experiences allow them to connect in a unique way. Together though, they bonded and their souls were content.
“Okay. Willa—I’m…I’m a little scared.” Willa laughed and took Zach from her.
“Get used to that feeling, hon. That’s life with a Bull.”
Ah, but this is an MC and nothing is simple nor is life easy. So expect a few ups and downs as the love birds find their way. I loved the way that the Brazen Bulls' President, Delaney looked out for Gunner, watching out for him. Gunner was a man with a short fuse and when it went off it cost the club dearly.
Leah had a few quirky mannerisms that normally would have ticked me off, but they had the opposite effect of entertaining me when they occurred. For a younger person, she was a wise young woman. She made a few epic mistakes along the way but with Gunner she had her head screwed on tight.
Ms Fanetti always brings out the emotion in her stories and explores issues raised in a sensitive way throughout the story. At the same time, I relished in the descriptive tones allowing me to experience the exhilaration of a bike ride right through to the desperate pain of losing the connection with loved ones. I thoroughly enjoyed Twist and can't wait to read the next book in the Brazen Bulls MC series!
We met Gunner in the first book as he was getting the shit beat out of him at a local hangout. He enjoyed it. And it is there that we discover what a loose cannon he is.
Enter the 19 year old preacher's daughter from a neighboring town. Wanting to shed the insular role she is stuck playing, she has a tendency to party recklessly. This is how they meet. Both high... fucking without protection on a dance floor. (Oh and some other dude took her from the back! I cringe!) Yet, digress.
SO she begins obsessing over him (because she had no clue who he was) Meanwhile, he moved on with his biker self...yawn! But when they see each other again, she discovers she knows him!! He was once the town good guy before tragedy hit. But as you can expect, he has no recollection of banging her at a rave. yada yada... Determined to remind him of who she is, she seeks him out at one of the biker MC parties where she was supposed to keep an eye out for her friend. When she finally sees him, she reminds him of who she is and basically begs him to bed her again. But before he does, she needs to be high out of her mind because she never had sex sober. SO he proceed to get some MDMA and they bang all night long... sigh! How romantic! NOT!! Oh and forget her drunken friend. Who cares about her, right??
And that for me killed whatever feelings or respect I could have had for the heroine. I understand she was young. But there's a distinction between young and being naive, stupid and careless. She was all four!
Yes i finished the book because I wanted to see how Gunner was combat his demons while starting a relationship with and infant.
It was painful and once again, well written. But man! The heroine got off to a bad start for me. And even though she matured as events transpire, I could not reconcile with her lack of morales at the start of the story. Nor could I see past the fact that she never once ran to a clinic to get checked for STD's after that rave.
I will move on to the next book in hope that the series has some redeeming qualities.
