A new generation of children love Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood , inspired by the classic series Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood !
Daniel Tiger learns how to process the feelings that come with losing someone you love in this thoughtful 8x8 storybook based on an episode of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood .
When Daniel’s pet fish dies, he learns to ask questions about what happened to help him understand what death means and how to handle his feelings. A much-needed book for parents looking for age appropriate resources on loss.

In general I don't love when my kids choose TV show books at the library (and these definitely aren't books I'll purchase for them), but the Daniel Tiger ones are decent overall. This book has a helpful message about dealing with the death of a pet and the various emotions it can bring up. L (age 3) is my child who is most into Daniel Tiger at the moment, although S (age 6) will still sit and listen to the Daniel stories sometimes.
Blue Fish is Daniel Tiger's beloved pet fish. One day when his fish dies, Daniel has to learn healthy ways to grieve his loss. I thought that this book was fantastic! I think it would help grieving children to know that it is okay to feel both happy and sad at the same time. It is also good because it helps children discover healthy ways to cope with the loss. I wish that I had had this book as a child when I dealt with the loss of a pet or grandparent.
I "really like" this book with the caveat that I cannot stand Daniel Tiger, but I have grudgingly accepted his place in our household with young children. With that condition in place, if your child likes Daniel, this book is simple, effective, and fairly comprehensive in terms of a way to help process grief around the loss of a pet.
Excellent book to help young children understand the concept of death and the emotions you feel after. And it’s okay to be sad,mad an$ then happy again. I saw this episode on tv an$ knew we needed th3 book. Great book to have on hand when a child looses a pet (or even a human ) in their lives.
