"So Heidi wakes up on a Saturday morning and wants to go shopping with her friends. First they went to a bookstore and bought books and they tasted and bought cookies from a bakery. Third they went to a cheese store but it smelled like rotten eggs so they left right away. At the treasure hunting place they got though the mirror place. They are grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. Finally they went to a glow and the dark place and they wanted to have a sleepover." -Cadee, age 9
Summary: Heidi Heckelbeck has the best day ever. She wakes up to her dad’s infamous pancakes, goes shopping with her best friends, spends time at the arcade, and then ends the perfect day with a sleepover. With the help of a little magic, Heidi says a spell to make every day just as awesome. But when she has to relive the same day over and over again, it is no longer as perfect as she first remembered.
Questions: 1. Describe your perfect day in detail. What did you do, what did you eat, who were you with, etc. 2. Would you want to relive your favorite day over and over again? Why or why not? 3. In this book series, Heidi Heckelbeck is a witch with a magical spell book. If you were a witch, what is one spell you would cast that could make your life easier or better? 4. In the book, Heidi’s friends start to notice that she is acting strange as she has to keep reliving the same day over and over again. If you were Heidi’s friends, what would you think is wrong with her, and what would you do to try to help? 5. How do you think the ending would have been different if Heidi could not reverse the spell? What do you think she would have done if she had to relive her “perfect day” forever?
Coven, W. (2017). Heidi Heckelbeck and the Never-Ending Day. Little Simon.
A great book to teach children that change is not always a bad thing and that you need to experience the bad days to appreciate the good ones.
Heidi has the perfect day ever and she wants to keep on reliving it. She pulls out her magic book and follows the recipe for a spell that will put her awesome day on repeat. But just after the first day she realizes that reliving the same day, no matter how awesome it is, really isn't that much fun. She ends up going through a few not so perfect days when she decides to get the help of her dad to bring everything back to normal. The next day she wakes up to a burnt breakfast, but even this new imperfect day was better than a repeating perfect one.
Yes, you can have too much of a good thing. After Heidi has the perfect day shopping, arcading, mini-golfing and sleepovering with Bruce and Lucy, she casts a spell to live the same day all over again. But it’s funny, without the spontaneity, the day isn’t nearly as fun. And then, the third time isn’t a charm, because it’s not only not as fun, but it’s getting really boring to hear the same jokes, eat the same food and do the same things yet again. It’s time for another spell! Heidi sure hopes it works in time.
Heidi and her friends went shopping with Heidi's mom. It was a super fun day because her mom let them do everything fun. Heidi wanted to relive that day, so she used her spell book to relive in four times. On the last day of the week, she and her dad undid the spell because she was getting tired of it.
#21 in the series. This time Heidi casts a spell to repeat a special day (think Groundhog Day movie). She learns some valuable lessons about each day being unique.
