Excellent book; Bonhoeffer is an intellectual theologian. Highly recommend it.

A Good Read

This is the first time I’ve ever read a Shepherd’s Note. It was a quick read and gave me a good feel for what’s in the book. I’ll read the book with an informed mindset and I’m sure I’ll get more out of the book.

Read this for a Bible Study Group. Kind of deep for me and he seems to repeat himself, just in different ways.

Had to get these to understand the book. They are more detailed in the beginning chapters and seem to slack off towards the end.

Some parts of this really helped me “get” what Bonhoeffer was saying but other sections just didn’t make a lot of sense nor did they help.

Handy summary of a timeless classic.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer is soundly practical and thoroughly orthodox. A tragic loss to Nazi barbarity in 1945!

I had high expectations of this book and have wanted to read it for some time as it has always been high on the "must read" list of Christian books. However I found it to be way over towards the law/works end of the "Grace vs Law" continuum which was a big disappointment for me and my antinomian tendencies.

A useful guide for getting the most out of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's famous 'The Cost of Discipleship' although it is possible to fully appreciate the book without the guide I did find it useful for summing up the last three chapters which I found to be a bit of a slog.

It is so rich with "instant spiritual application" that I feel distant from the standard of a disciples lifestyle! I will be digesting this for the rest of my life!

I liked the first few chapters, but he went off track in the second part of the book.
