At eighty-one, Mae is the matriarch of the Parker family and is accustomed to bending everyone to her will. Everyone, that is, except her great-nephew, Rafe, who runs the huge family-owned operation and is equally as iron-willed. Rafe is not at all happy when he learns that his great-aunt has picked out a wife for him...and invited her, after a recent accident, to recuperate at the ranch. All his life he’s watched Mae manipulate people. He’ll be damned if he’ll fall in love on her order!
The Parker Ranch, run by Parker sons and daughters since before The War Between the States. Tough, rugged, fiercely loyal...to each other and to the people they let into their hearts.
Ginger Chambers was born in Texas, USA. She had no plans to become a writer while she was growing up. But she always loved words and stories, so it was only natural that the inevitable happened, when she published her first romance novel in 1981. After writing over thirty books, Ginger still loves the profession she was ultimately drawn to. She considers it one of the great joys of her life to be able to create characters that come to life on the page and place them in situations that entertain her, as well as her readers. She authored the popular seven-book series The West Texans.
Her two children now grown, Ginger makes her home with her husband near the beautiful Pacific in Northern California. Ginger loves to hear from readers. You can reach her through her web site or email her and at gingerchambers@sbcglobal.net
“West Texas Match” is the first story in “The West Texans” series by Ginger Chambers. The story had a familiar feel to it for me, but at the time I put that down to the genre and devouring so many Modern Western Romances lately. Yet, when I went to Goodreads to get the publication date I finally understood why it felt familiar. It had been years, but I had read this one before. That’s not to say it’s not a completely enjoyable story, it is, I simply wish I’d realized sooner for I found nothing on the cover to indicate that it was previously published. That happens to be one of my personal huge pet peeves. But what’s read has been read and the memory lingers somewhere in this reader’s mind.
This story will grab your attention from the first page as we are immediately thrust into life-altering danger. It was so easy to imagine Shannon in that plane, and my liking and admiration for this character never faltered from that point on. Rafe took a bit longer for me to like as he is the annoyingly handsome cowboy ideal for strong, stubborn, determined and a bit sarcastic. Rafe and his Aunt Mae are twin souls in many ways, she’s just a smidge more stubborn and controlling… for now at least.
Rafe and Shannon’s romance centers around the Parker Ranch where she has been invited (bulldozed) into staying while she recuperates from her injuries… and Mae’s larger plan plays right into that need. We’ll meet the other members (or some) of the Parker family, and do a bit of world-building, as well. In many ways, this is a slow burn, slowly developing romance – and at times we amble through the story that often tells more in the narrative than lets the characters speak in dialogue.
I enjoyed “West Texas Match“. It’s a tender, touching story that left me satisfied with the ending. I don’t know if I’ll continue with the series though because I have read it in the past. That is a decision for another day.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
A story of tradgey and overcoming great odds to rebuild a life, when a match makers makes dreams come true!
Rafe has the stress of running a huge ranch with all the family invested in it. He starting e one with his ranch & loves it. Finding a woman that he on a compound surrounding with family & trusted workers. Shannon was a door survivor and is recovery at the ranch. She is being played by the Matriarch as match for Rafe. This story has love, betrayal, showing & communication emotions, many dysfunction & events to keep you on your toes. Humor, history and evaluate what true love & those that like vs you are willing to do. A good recommendation for a "puppy love" , someone struggling with rehabilitation or starting over. Violence 2 sex 1 many great characters to call for, no cliffhangers. Cowboy romance but great tough topics that are refreshing to be exposed to. A romantic, slow burn love story. Started off quite unexpected, and I wondered if I were actually reading a cowboy novel.... but, be patient. After a sad start, it picks up with the introduction of good ole Aunt Mae.... a feisty head of family and thats all seeing, much to the annoyance of her family.... A really good tale with all the elements to make it a super read. Lots of flirting, with no need for graphic sexual detail, you feel the vibe anyway and it captures the whole essence of the budding romance.
I so enjoyed reading this novel. Well worth the time. This is the first novel I have read by this author, and it won't be the last.
Shannon was seriously injured in an airplane accident that killed her father and fiance. After extensive surgeries, physical therapy, and hospital stay, she is invited to the Parker Ranch to complete recovery and get strong enough for future surgeries. The book covers her interaction with Great Aunt Mae, Rafe, and other Parkers living on the ranch. A lot of the story was boring. It takes a lot of work and time to run a ranch, but there seemed to be a lot of time for sexual activities. I did not enjoy book.
Parker ranch is very large spread, and Mae is the Matriarch. What she says usually is what happens. Rafe runs and works the ranch. Shannon, was ithe only survivor of a plane crash, where her father And fiancé and others were killed in the same crash. Mae goes and asked Shannon to come to Parker ranch to Convalescence and get her strength back. But Mae has ulterior motives. Great story, great characters. I could not put this down. I liked this story and want to read more in this series.
True to the west, down home love story. I enjoyed reading it set much. Loved Aunt Mae, a real old time matriarch of the huge families that covered a lot of the west in the early days. I recommend reading this book to all that enjoy love, laughter and happy ever after..
I just adored this book. If you've ever been fortunate (?) enough to have an "Aunt Mae" in your life, this'll take you right back to your into your memories.... Even if you didn't grow up in a ranch. The storyline is lovely and the warm flowing feelings it provokes devine.
My first book by Ginger Chambers and what a book! I can't wait to finish reading this series. Really really enjoyed. made my heart ache, made my heart soar plus the laughter was the clincher. Highly recommended. This was a free book offered through a site; the review was given freely.
Shannon survived the plane crash by that took everyone but her. Now after being in rehab she is finding herself being taken care by the Parker family. Race knows is aunt is up to something, but maybe this it will be good.
Wow, Aunt Mary is a force to be reckoned with and no one should get in her way. Yet Rafe and Shannon find love because of her. Great read, looking forward to next book.
Loved Mae....she may not be law, but on that ranch she is. I just loved everyone in this book. I loved how the whole family was involved no matter what happen. I can't wait to read the next one.
This was a goof story, you get drawn in by the accident, her going to the ranch, the trouble of a teenager and finally two people realizing true feelings and becoming the couple they needed to be. Really wanted more of the story,I felt it ended to soon.
This is one of the books that is hard to put down I had to read until it was finished. It is so refreshing to be able to read a good book that is clean with all the action and a good plot. I recommend to anyone that likes a good read.
I was hooked on this book by the very first chapter, what Shannon had been through was so tragic and it was lovely to see her gradual recovery at the Parker Ranch as she started to connect with the people around her. Mae the matriarch of the family was a great character with her need to control all those around her, including finding a bride for her great nephew, against his will. Recommended read. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Tragic family ending and new beginning to another. Shannon invited to Parker Ranch, to recuperate after surviving a plane crash. The lost of love ones, matriarch of the Parker family. Offers her to come stay with the family, Shannon enjoying her stay. Aunt Mae has other ideas, for one a wife. For her handsome nephew Rafe, who oversees the ranch operations. Shannon and Rafe want nothing to do with Aunt Mae idea's. Finally at end Aunt Mae gets what she wants.
