While the book's title emphasizes Bickell's connection to the Maple Leafs, that is only a small part of the book, which was mainly written by a relation of his. Instead it looks at the life of one of the richest and most well-connected Canadians of the early 20th century, and what he did with his vast fortune. Partially financed by the JP Bickell Foundation, which raises money for hospitals in Ontario, it also covers his philanthropy, and the overall result is a more hagiographic look at the man, rather than any serious study of him.
