Rachel Troyer. Great cop. Loving wife. Adoring mother. A perfect existence. Until a monster from the past forces her into the fight of her life. Can revenge be satisfied and Rachel survive? Or will her family have to pay the price?
I live only a few miles from a flourishing Amish community and am blessed to count many Old Order Amish as friends. Love Finds You In Sugarcreek, Ohio is a natural outgrowth of my on-going fascination with these valiant, flawed people who struggle to live their lives according to their interpretation of the Bible. Once, when I apologized for asking so many questions while researching this book, an Amish father told me that I could ask anything I wanted. “Nothing is forbidden,” he said. He told me that he wanted my book to be accurate. I was thrilled when his family read it and gave me their enthusiastic nod of approval.
Our family, however, also lived for many years in Michigan. My father, a sawyer, told me stories he had heard from old timber men who had cut the fabled giant pine in the Saginaw Valley. Visiting museums and reading about the years directly after the Civil War, when Michigan became the lumber capitol of the world, became a hobby. I was delighted when Revell Publishing allowed me to revisit that era by writing The Measure Of Katie Calloway.
There are many other books on their way—both Amish and historical. Please know that each one is a labor of love from me to you.
This is book two of Serena B. Miller’s Loves Journey in Sugarcreek series. Although it is an older book it was my first time reading it. I loved all the characters which made the book come to life. It was a mixture of Amish and English characters. There were some edge of seat parts to the book that kept me turning the pages. I gave it five stars because it was entertaining, unpredictable, original, easy to read, inspirational, and yes I like to see that in a book. I thought it was realistic because the main characters had good and bad things happening to them during the coarse of the book. I’m definitely wanting to read book three and four of this series.
Rachel and Joe get married and together with Bobby become a family. Rachel gets pregnant and Joe finds out he’s penniless. A new character enters the story , Carl Bateman and readers get to learn about why he plays an important part of this book. Rachel has a hard time finding forgiveness in her heart towards someone who has hurt her deeply. Darren Matthias , Joe’s brother returns and readers get to glimpse his good side. Bertha, Lydia and Anna, Rachel’s three aunts are still running the B&B and are a big part of this story. Near the end there’s an unpredictable twist to the story that you won’t want to miss.
Readers of Amish Fiction and Suspense Books will find this book to their liking. It is part of a series but it could be read as a standalone book. I would recommend reading it in order because characters from book one are carried over into this book.
Rachel as Rescue is an extremely heartwarming book written by Serena B. Millet. This book picks up where the first book closed, The Sugar Has Inn. This is a wonderful story that touches your heart about forgiveness. Second chances is also played out thru the entire story between different characters. The characters that the author introduces her readers to are very likeable. They felt like family to me by the end of this book.
When Rachel's father was killed when he interrupted a bank robbery when she was just a young girl, set her life's journey in stone. She became a police officer and after a period of time was welcomed on the police force in her hometown of Sugar creek. When Rachel learns she is to late to stop the release of Carl Bateman, the man who killed her father, she is devastated. Learning of his release sets things in motion for her to learn about her aunts. What did the aunts do to cause Rachel such pain? Where does Carl end up living? What will Carl do that influences Rachel's opinion of him?
This book is very powerful in teaching that almost everyone deserves a second chance. This includes Rachel's childhood friend. What near tragic event happened that causes the two ladies to lose their friendship? Who is responsible for the outcome of this situation?
I highly recommend this book to all those who love the Amish genre and mystery. I have rated this book with five stars for a wonderful story that continues the series. I had a hard time putting this book down.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. All opinions and statements expressed are strictly my own.
Congratulations to Serena B Miller on a wonderful addition to her series, The Loves Journey in Sugarcreek. I am looking forward to the third book to see how all the characters come together for another wonderful story.
I finished this book today. It was wonderful, parts made me cry. It speaks a wonderful story of forgiveness and redemption. Waiting for the last in the series to come to my library.
I loved this book at can’t wait to read the next one in the series. I am very grounded in my faith and understand some of how the Amish worship and treat people. They are not a Sunday worship kind of people. Their faith and religion is how they live and who they are. I admire that the author did her research and kept things as historically correct as possible. Although this is a work of fiction, the story line was very believable. Too many times, romance novels are so out in left field that I have a hard time believing that they could actually happen. This book was the exact opposite. I highly recommend this book.
Rachel Troyer is a cop and recently got married. When she was a child, a man kills her father and Rachel witnessed the incident. As you can imagine, this was a very traumatic event for her. Her aunts who are Amish and run a B&B raised Rachel. Rachel is traumatized again, when the man who killed her father is paroled to her town. She feels nothing but hate for this man and can't believe that this man is in her town. Through a series of events, Rachel becomes involved in solving a crime, her step-son is missing and she needs the help of this man.
I loved book one so very much that I just finished book two and it was equally fabulous. The unforgettable crimes, mystery and the mix of Amish and English lives are very entertaining. I highly recommend you read this story and the others in this series🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💖💖💖💖💖
It was an awesome read! Most sequels are not up to par with the first books, but Serena Miller did an amazing job with this book! I will have to read her other books now! This book is a must read!
In a time when belief in God seems to be decreasing in our society these stories give me hope. I love the stories of what feels like real people & human experiences.
Usually I love this author but this one was terrible. I can’t really tell you why bc it would definitely give it away. Let’s just say that trading one tragedy for another is unfair in a life like Rachel’s. Her husband was a complete a-hole to her while she was in the first stages of pregnancy (hello raging hormones) and only seemed to care about his son and not what she was feeling at all.
Wow! This book was Interesting and thought-provoking. There were several "what would you do if..." moments. I really appreciated the author allowing the characters to deal with anger and forgiveness issues. This is a continuation of Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, so I would recommend reading that first.
I love this book. The sequel is well written. It is like going back and visiting the characters you loved. This story touches on important of forgiveness and let go of the past. I highly recommend this book if you like mystery and clean fiction and faith content.
It was great to be back in Sugarcreek! The author's love and respect for the Amish shows in her writing. The story is captivating and keeps you on your toes. I love the growing relationship between Rachel and Joe. Lots of real and difficult decisions for the characters in this book.
Good story about forgiveness, love and starting over. The Amish are believers in forgiving others and this story emphasizes that. Something a lot of people today could learn
This is actually a duplicate entry for this book on Goodreads. This book's title is properly titled here but improperly entered under Serena B Miller (no period). I don't want to see this book later on Miller's correct author page and think I haven't read it. So I am pasting my "review" here.
**Serena B. Miller certainly weaves a great story. I loved the characters in this series. I need to read more and more of her books! They haven't been entered very well into Goodreads [which is a common problem with indie authors]. For example, this one is listed as Serena B Miller (no period) and then a similar title of the same book by Serena B. Miller. Plus, this one does not have an image of the front cover.
Note to self: The Kindle book I was reading had a sample of a book 3 in this Sugarcreek series but I couldn't find it anywhere. 😢

Wonderful book ! Rachel's father killed after a bank robbery .As a young girl who witnessed this she set her mind to being a police officer. This book is about second chances and forgiveness.
