Rate this book
A curvy math teacher on vacation + a wolf shifter who spent years in captivity + an accident that leaves them stranded together in a jungle paradise = one thrilling romance!

Deer shifter Mary North may be afraid of snakes, planes, tropical diseases, and strange people, but when fate hands her a solo vacation at the luxurious, all-inclusive Shifting Sands Resort, she's determined to overcome her own timidity and enjoy herself. She isn’t prepared to meet her own mate - and find out he doesn’t want her.

Neal Byrne was an elite member of the military before he was captured and tortured in a private zoo for a collector’s amusement, forced to remain in his wolf form for ten years. He’s working at Shifting Sands now, doing whatever odd work he can find, and trying to heal his emotional wounds. He knows he’s not fit for a mate, and he’s sure the beautiful, gentle Mary would be better off without him.

When an accident traps the two in an isolated slice of paradise, injured and alone, it will take all their courage and trust to survive. Can two hurt souls find healing at last, or will their fears keep them forever alone?

Tropical Wounded Wolf is a thrilling, standalone short wolf shifter romance. No cliffhangers!

Sweet

Mary is very meek and timid for being a middle school math teacher, but it makes sense since her animal is a deer. Even so, she was put to the test and had to deal with her fears for the first time. It was inpiring how she grew and much of that ws due to Neal. In turn, she helped Neal and gave him a reason to connect with someone. He had refused to find his family and was hiding from Mary and it wasn't until he hurt her that he started to open up again. It was so sweet.

The soldier's story was well done and I kinda wish I had gotten more info about his past life. He and the deer had chemistry but the deer was my biggest point of critique. She was too scared of everything in the beginning and too eager foe adventures in the end. The development came on way too fast. Otherwise I really liked this.

This book was definitely more rushed and less developed compared to the first book in this series.

Mary’s character was annoying because her fear of everything seemed overly dramatic. Neal was sort of fine, but I didn’t like how their relationship development is Neal avoiding Mary, then out of nowhere he dresses up, gets flowers and goes to her which is when they sleep together and ‘fall in love’. Mary and Neal’s relationship wasn’t developed at all and it happened very quickly.

I didn’t really like the plot as not much happens. Neal avoids Mary then shows up out of nowhere and they sleep with each other. Then they go on a hike which ends in an accident so they have to wait for others. Then there is an attack which seemed like a convenient way to force Neal to contact his team.

While I find Alice, Scarlet and Magnolia intriguing, I don’t think that this series is for me. I will probably try other books by this author though.

I read the first book in this series and found it wasn't really for me but seeing as how I received an ARC of Tropical Wounded Wolf, I felt I should give this series a second chance, glad I did as it was a major improvement on the first one.
The main characters were much more likable then there were in the first book, it felt like they were better developed and I actually quite liked Mary and how her confidence/bravery grew.
I really like H and my heart broke for him and what he suffered through.
I felt we got a lot more interaction with some of the secondary characters and I found them to be a lot more interesting and hope to see them featured in any future books!!
Nice amount of romance, action and adventure.
I received an ARC with no obligation to leave this honest review.

Cute story , but the ending feels a bit abrupt and inconclusive - it needs an epilogue.

TITLE OF BOOK: TROPICAL WOUNDED WOLF
AUTHOR OF BOOK: ZOE CHANT
DATE READ: MARCH 11, 2017 – MARCH 11, 2017

WILL NEAL AND MARY OVERCOME THEIR FEARS AND FIND LOVE? OR WILL THEY BE DESTINED TO LIVE ALONE?

This is another amazing story by Zoe Chant and it is one you sure do not want to miss. It has everything in it you could want. It has a bad ass military wolf shifter, a sandy beach, and any plenty of sand action. While working at the Tropical Sands Resort Neal Byrne, a wolf shifter, is trying to heal from all the horror inflicted on him by a psycho path for 10 years. When he finds his mate, he knows he feels that he isn’t worthy of her and that she would be better off without him. Mary North is a deer shifter and she scare of about everything, but fate has her on a vacation alone on at the Shifting Sands Resort. While here she is trying to overcome her fears, and enjoy herself. She sure wasn’t prepared for what fate had in store for her on the Island, her mate and he doesn’t seem to want her.

Fate steps in and strands Neal and Mary on an isolated part of the Island. They are injured and must find the courage to trust each other and to survive. Can these two lost souls find the healing they are searching for? Or will they let their fears keep them from the happiness they could have.

No Spoilers. Advanced Reader Copy read voluntarily and loved.

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!

The cover is very nice!!

This is the 2nd book in the series. This series is for adults only due to the steamy content. I think you want to read the books in order if you do not like when events are mentioned that you haven’t read yet. Also it helps you know the staff at the resort better!

Mary and Neal both have their fears. They are better able to get over them with each other. This book felt different than others I’ve read, but I’m not sure if I was having an off day or if I didn’t connect with the characters as much in this book. I still enjoyed the book, but I was missing something that I can’t put my finger on.

I’m definitely interested in seeing what happens next in the series because I love Zoe’s work! I recommend the series to shifter fans everywhere!

3.5 stars. Oh my goodness, Mary our heroine is scared of everything, including her own shadow. I would love to see her in front of her students. One cannot do that job without a backbone and Mary just needs to learn to believe in herself.
Mary's transition from scardy deer to competent woman is lovely. She is braver than she thinks she is and this is written so well you cheer for her every time she takes a strong step forward.
Neal is one of the shifters held captive and has been through hell for the past 10 years. He has gone from an elite trained soldier to a shaking mess of a man.
When he sees Mary and realises she is his mate he is rude and takes the cowards way out by ignoring her.
I enjoyed this more than book 1 as we have much better interaction with the others and the ending was superb with Lewis.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

We first met Neal in the first story in the Shifting Sands Resort series, Tropical Tiger Spy. He is still at the resort, working around the property and helping the few remaining shifters who were in captivity with him. Many have been able to move on but a few, like him, still are reeling from the long years at the hands of a vicious shifter collector. Once a member of an elite military unit, Neal was captured while on a mission and brought to this island ten years ago. Forced to remain in his wolf form for all those years, Neal is now at odds with his wolf and never shifts. He’s in limbo and unsure if he will ever be fully healed mentally or emotionally.

Mary has been talked into this vacation by her best friend, who unfortunately had to cancel at the last moment. Mary is a deer shifter born into a family of cat shifters and she’s been protected from just about everything. Her fears are very real, and this vacation was a way to try to step beyond those fears, but now she’s on her own and even more timid than before. To be truthful Mary is afraid of absolutely everything. When she almost walks onto the pool deck where a handsome man is cleaning the pool she stops. There is a draw to this stranger and while he seems to feel it too, he abruptly stalks away. She’d never truly believed in the everyone has a mate somewhere theory – but nothing else could possibly explain the anguish of his man walking away.

I loved watching Neal and Mary overcome their fears for each other. When danger finds them, on more than one occasion Mary shines as she learns to do what she believes she could never do. Her mate is is serious trouble, his life is at stake and under those circumstances she discovers a bravery that is feeling comfortable. Enough so that she’s trying a lot of things she never believed she could. When a threat to the resort and everyone living there emerges it’s up to Neal, the staff and Mary to turn the situation around. Bringing closure for some, and opening up future possibilities for others.

I’m hoping we’ll have more stories for the other staff members and Scarlett in the future. I’d really like to know more about them all, and there are hints of mystery there as well that I’d definitely enjoy exploring. So, yeah, in my imagination I’m not done with these folks and I sincerely hope that their tales get told one day.

Tropical Wounded Wolf is a story that can stand on it’s own, yet it probably would fill in some lightly spoken of events and give a better feel for what Neal and the others have gone through if you’ve read Tropical Tiger Spy. Is it necessary, nah, but it’s a great story and would enhance this story.

I would definitely recommend this story and this series. You’ll find likable characters, nasty villains and interesting secondary characters.

I read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

It's That Time Of The Semester in grad school, where I'm prioritizing between getting my code working and getting a literature review done for my thesis and getting reams and reams of homework done. I'm living on tea and snacks at my desk and feel like I haven't seen the sun in days.

And then there's this book. I asked a friend for happy stories that wouldn't be upsetting, because I work with tragedy and trauma. She recommended this whole series. And I'm so, so happy she did.

- Is the guy big and buff and dangerous? Yes!
- Is there positivity about the girl not being thin? Yes!
- Is there anything resembling dubious consent or the threats of sexual violence to ramp up tension? No!
- Is the scenery great? Definitely.
- Do they have sex onscreen? Absolutely.

There's action enough to be interesting, but the focus is on the characters, and the action isn't drawn out enough to cause anxiety. And there isn't even any murder, so no one has to think about ethics! Plus, with the destined mates, there's no tension about whether the depth of emotion is reciprocated. And the relationship is healthy, with communication and mutual support. It ticks all the boxes, with nothing unpleasant except those fleeting things which are supposed to be. I am probably going to continue to read at least one of these books a day until the semester is over.

Mary North is a deer shifter who's afraid of everything nature has to offer but finds herself alone on a tropical island at the all-inclusive Shifting Sands Resort. Neal Byrne is a red maned wolf shifter and was a member of an elite military group before he was captured and kept in a private zoo of rare shifters forced to remain a wolf. Both are surprised to meet their mate. Neal's sure that Mary is better off without him and and she has to get over her fears. When an accident finds them stranded in the rain forest with Neal severely wounded refusing to shift into his wolf they each must be strong for the other and survive.

I truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it although I do suggest you read the first book of the series before this one. It's well-written with well-developed characters who are realistic with their strengths and weaknesses.

Series: Shifting Sands Resort #2
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

This was another enjoyable shifter romance. Neal is struggling to adjust to normal life after being imprisoned in his wolf for 10 years. Finding his mate is the last thing he expects and he pushes her away at first. I liked that while he did push her away it was only for a few hours. Neal just has a lot of trauma to overcome but he will get there with Mary. Mary started out as afraid of everything but quickly found her strength. I liked that she was overcoming her fears and finding happiness. Overall, I enjoyed these two and meeting more of the resort staff.

Trigger Warnings: imprisonment, torture, PTSD

Great book 2 in this series

I think I liked this story even better than the first one. The characters were very well drawn and complex. I loved how book 1 flowed seamlessly into book 2. Neal is a superb wounded hero, and Mary was a great complement to him. They balance each other. She discovers just how strong you can be and still be scared. The action is in the last half of the story, but I enjoyed the character building first half just as well.

This story has super characters, an emotional storyline, action, some steamy scenes and some surprises. I enjoyed it immensely. If you enjoy stories like that, you're in for a treat. Just read book 1 Tropical Tiger Spy first. Things make more sense, then. Try it! You won't regret it!

*WARNING* contains explicit adult love scenes
Neal works at Shifting Sands Resort, but doesn't enjoy the scenery much. Neal is a wolf shifter, but refuses to let his wolf out. Neal suffered torture and captivity for man, many years and now he's just broken.
Mary is a deer shifter and as skiddish as a mouse. Mary is afraid of everything from ants to the dark. Mary was suppose to go on vacation at the Resort with a friends, but friends got sick at the last minute, how will she get through the trip alone?
I liked this one a lot. The world build makes the resort a beautiful place. The 2 main characters both fears to conquer, just very different ones. Under it all this story shows what you can overcome when you truly love someone.

This was an... OK followup to the first book in the series, but I definitely didn't enjoy it as much from a character trope perspective (basically, I'm never going to NOT be irritated by storylines that feature the idea finding your one true love is enough to heal all the PTSD you've developed from previous trauma, plus I like books where both parties in the relationship are reasonably competent and confident in their own abilities before they meet up, so while I felt sorry for Mary, I really didn't enjoy hanging out with her during the story)

I did, however, enjoy getting more glimpses of Bastian, Breck and Scarlet, and I'm looking forward to getting to read more about them in their own books

I really enjoy when books in a series include many of the same characters and locations.
Mary, is a deer shifter, whose family were all tiger shifters, except her grandmother, who was also a deer. She was a math teacher at a middle school, and afraid of...well...everything!
Neal was the red maned wolf, and ex military man, was one of the shifters rescued Beehag’s cages in Tropical Tiger Spy.
Neal realizes Mary is his mate, but avoides her because he feels broken still. When he finally give in, the romance, adventures, and misadventures begin!
You can read this as a stand alone, but it is much better with the background information from book 1.

Book 2 down

Kindle Unlimited Purchase

We were introduced to Neal in Tropical Tiger Spy... If you haven't already read it I recommend you take the time... Neal is healing from his captivity in book 1... He has stayed on at the resort as an employee.. while helping other survivors get back to their lives.. what happens next is something he is NOT ready for, but sometimes Murphy's law can be a good thing...
I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anyone 18 and over.... Book 3 here I come!

Exciting!

Yes, they got rid of the bad guy in book 1, but there was a blast from Neal’s past in this one. & the bad guy in this one was also the 1 who got Neal taken as a captive in the 1st place. Neal by the way is the red wolf that was in the 1st book.

Mary is as timid as what she shifts into but eventually she learns not to be so frightened of everything. Especially when she meets her mate, Neal.

This book was very good in the good vs bad plot (but you don’t see it that way until the end of the book), the romance, the friends & the sex scenes.

Neal and Mary

We briefly meet Neal, the redhead wolf, in the first book of this series. He had been locked in captivity, forced to be in his wolf animal for 10 years. Now, after been release, he struggles with coming to turns with what happened. The last thing he expects is to come face to face with his fated mate. He is broken and refuses to force his broken self on to his mate and refuses their bond. Very emotional and intense story, packed with action and romance. Highly recommended

Love conquers all....

Very exciting. Mary, a deer shifter, on vacation. Neal, a wolf shifter, working at a resort and trying to heal from being held captive for ten years. When they see each other they knew they were mates. But Neal felt that he was to broken to be with Mary. Luckily they worked through that before they ended up in trouble. But working together they ended up safe and helped save the resort from being taken over by some very bad people. A wonderful addition to the series.

It was really hard on him after the he'll torture he went through 4 10yrs. It's very hard on a person's psyche. But I'm not quite sure on why he seems 2 hate his wolf but I wonder if it's cause of the way everything happened 2 him. She loved and will always support him in every way possible cause of being bond by fate. It was awesome that he got things back on track especially when things got rough 4 a little bit. He's slowly healing in all ways possible.

Sexy, Tropical Adventure

Neal, a rare type of canid shifter, needs to get his head on straight. He also needs to get back in the good graces of his animal. Mary, a deer shifter, is just as skittish in human form as in her animal form. An odd pair, for sure. Still, surrendering to their attraction is the easy part when compared to getting lost in the jungle, falling off cliffs, battling injuries and fears, and saving the resort from a megalomaniac.

A great story of finding true forever mates and beginning to heal from old wounds. I liked seeing Mary grow a bit and not being afraid of her own shadow. She wasn't likable in the beginning with her whining and scardy cat behavior. She certainly was aggressive with Neal from the start. Lol. When Neal's back was to the wall and it counted he started to live and heal again, and I appreciated that aspect. I always enjoy good over evil. The audio version was great.

2nd book in this series

Mary’s friend talked and schemed her friend into going to the Shifting Sands Resort. Mary is afraid of everything but is determined to have a good time. Neal was was captured for someone’s else’s amusement and help others but was not doing so good himself. There is a few twist, turns and learning how not to be afraid

Slow burn

A very slow story, after the first rescue nothing exciting happens till late on in the book, didn't like Mary, she was a wimpy shifter, she was a deer after all, but she redeems herself in the end.
I was pleased to see the grammatical errors were much improved on the first book

I was on a Sci Fi binge now I am on a Paranormal shifter binge and that is how I came across Zoe's books. Once I find an author whose books I like I will read them all and let me tell you Zoe has a lot. They are quick and easy reads. Some serious some make me laugh but all have danger and fated mates.
I enjoy paranormal stories as they take you away from everyday life and anything goes.
