Too many books are put into the "paranormal" category when there is nothing truly paranormal in the book. This book, however is COMPLETELY different!
The main character in the book is a college student who help form a paranormal group. These students actually what to find proof but else help those who are being attacked by an unseen force. While investigating, Rayne Bledsoe has an accident. This near death experience showed her an exotic place with vibrant colors, butterflies and the most gorgeous man she has ever laid eyes on. When the "hottie" tells her she must go back she wants to argue. Waking up in a hospital bed with a major headache and fuzzy memories of that night.
After recovering her group investigates another place, but this time something says her name and that she will die. It shocks everyone including Rayne. To zone out from that weird experience, she goes with a friend to dance away her worries. That is until she sees Fin, a man who was in her near death dream. Somehow she really knew that it really happened and that it wasn't a dream.
Fin takes Rayne's hand and leaves a paper in her palm. The message says she must come to a abandoned school in 3 days. When she attends the meeting she is surprised to see other people in attendance (2 girl, 4 boys) and all the men from her dream. They tell her she and the group are special, very special.
I love that this book uses real paranormal words, equipment, and well know haunted places. The descriptions of the feelings, shadows, and unearthly voices are spot on. This book is in the first person story told by Rayne herself. She, the author/character, depict true emotions that someone who is sensitive feels, the cold breath on the neck, the hair standing on end, goosebumps, and the internal emotions.
The only part about this book that bothers me is that I have to wait to see how the story ends! It leaves you at the top of the cliff wanting more, yet knowing you have to wait for the next book! This book exceeded my expectations and was unpredictable, which rarely ever happens to me! I was given this book to review from the author/publisher through Reading Alley and in exchange I give my unbiased opinion
I was given a copy of "Finding Light", a paranormal romance by Skye Blake, in exchange for my honest opinion. This story is the first book in the Guardian of My Soul series, and in the end, if left me wanting.
The story follows Rayne, A 22-year-old ghost hunting college student, who finds her self expelled from heaven in order to for her fill her destiny. After a near death experience during one of her ghost hunting adventures, Rayne find out she's more than what she seems. She learns that she has a special ability to be able to tune into spirit activity, and disperse evil malevolent spirits. As she begins her training, she finds herself falling in love with the one person she cannot have, and find herself being betrayed by someone she thought she could trust.
In truth, I found myself fascinated with the entire story. I loved each of the characters, and though at first I wish there could've been more of a backstory, I quickly realized it was not needed. Rayne, is the perfect heroine. She has the courage to embrace her destiny, but she is not an instant bad ass. She still finds herself afraid in bad situation and in need of help. It makes her more relatable to the reader, like she could be one of your classmates or even your best friend. I loved how much action was involved in the story as well as the sexually tension between Rayne and her love interest.
So as I said, this book left me wanting. I was wanting another chapter, I am wanting the next book and I really want to know what happens next. I'm looking forward to continuing the series, and highly recommend it to anybody who enjoys a little chill with their thrills
I really enjoyed reading the first book of the Guardian series and look forward to Skye Blake's next book. The Author uses great descriptive phrases to really help you emerge into the story. The research she must of done to give you the descriptions of the St. Louis historic district was enjoyable, especially since I have grown up in the area. Some parts of the book had a familiar ring to them but I read a LOT so this occurs in numerous books that I read. Overall an engaging storyline that sucks you right in and makes you eagerly await the next book in the series.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I read a lot of paranormal books but not much romance. The two genres were seamlessly combined to produce a book I could hardly put down. The author, Skye Blake put a new and interesting spin on the paranormal aspect. It was refreshing to have the main female character be strong, compassionate and independent. I can say I was truly sorry when the book ended and am looking forward to the next installment and future books from this author.
I truly enjoyed Finding Light by Skye Blake. It was a fast read, very fun, and adventurous. Well written, enjoyable characters, kept me interested, I couldn't put it down. It's about a group of young adults who are ghost hunters one day Rayne finds out she is a seer. Cant wait for the next book. I was given this book in exchange for a honest review.
ChicLit in a paranormal framework. Fin is not human so he and Rayne are, technically, not allowed a relationship for fear of dire repercussions to them both on the paranormal level. They meet during Rayna's near death experience and form a bond that Fin has been half-heartedly fighting since he knows, only too well, the consequences. The human characters are College friends who had formed a supernatural club to investigate unexplained phenomena. 'Finding Light', the first in a series, is meant to set the context for further adventures. It ends with Fin promising to see Rayne again and Rayne getting ready to take up her mission to save the world. Better editing would have picked up a few typos/grammatical errors (such as 'site', when 'sight' is meant) and tightened the flow. Light reading, suitable for young adults. I received a free copy via Booktasters for an honest review.
I received this book from Reading Alley in exchange for my honest review.
Rayne has always had a fascination along with her brother for the paranormal, but when she comes close to death and is brought back everything changes….especially when there is Fin, the one she laid eyes on for those moments that she was so close to death, the deep intensity that lies between these two erupts quickly but all while it shouldn’t…..
Right from the first page you are left with no time to breathe, you are pulled right into the action, and quite frankly this book didnt slow down, it kept up a quick pace that built up along nicely with the plot and as the plot thickened you were pulled in deeper unable to pull yourself away from the pages, until all that is left is the last page.
The plot was different and unique in itself, and the characters and how they were written and portrayed went so well with the story it was hard not to be able to put together your own “fantasy cast”. I really did have a hard time grasping that I had finished the book in one sitting, not because it was in one sitting but mainly because now I’m left wanting more.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy paranormal romance novels as I am sure this one is sure to be a hit.
Finding Light is book one of the Guardian of My Soul Series. Look for Book 2 Summer/Fall 2017
The author really knows how to immediately capture your attention from the very start of the book. There are no slow moments to be found in this novel, as I found myself drawn in by wanting to see the direction Rayne would veer next. Sometime last year I started exploring the paranormal fiction genre just to see what it was all about. I got hooked on a couple of authors, and after reading this book, I'm definitely adding Skye Blake to my list of authors I'm hooked on. There's quite a bit of bad writing in this paranormal romance category of fiction, as I've unfortunately discovered. But Finding Light is like, well, *finding light*! This is a well written and exciting novel that keeps your attention from beginning until end. I definitely recommend this book, and I hope that Skye Blake has many more to come!
