Jadee Trollis knows a little something about things that go bump in the night. Thanks to a father obsessed with myths, legends, and the paranormal, Jadee was dragged around the world in his pursuit of everything from ghosts to Sasquatch as a child. She got away from all that craziness in her teens, seeking a normal life as an adult.
A trip to Alaska to visit her father quickly turns into a nightmare. Jadee ends up trapped in her father's tricked-out RV, hiding from the dangerous Vampires outside. Lavos is the hottest man she's ever seen when he comes to her rescue. He growls, has some seriously strange but beautiful eyes, and he's not human.
But returning to the lower forty-eight might not be the safety net she's expecting, and the normal life Jadee craves more than anything means never seeing Lavos again. When she finds herself in need of his help, it seems her new normal may be back in Alaska, waiting in her VampLycan's arms.
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
This is definitely my favourite in the series so far. A bit of adventure, a bit of horror, a bit of paranormal romance, a bit of erotica.
This is the story of Jadee, the daughter of an explorer of paranormal beings. He and his comrades are a bit like Sam and Dean (from “Supernatural”) wannabes. Unfortunately, her father and his friends will bite off more than they can chew when they meet real vampires.
Jadee will try to find him in Alaska, but the man that she meets only resembles her father’s appearance. He is not the same man.
Lavos will help her survive and then Jadee will learn that in this world besides humans, there are vampires and werewolves… And then Lavos will explain to her that those were not exactly vampires and that he is not exactly a werewolf.
Besides the story of VampLycan Lavos and human Jadee, the story of VampLycans in general will move forward. A war between vampires and VampLycans may start and the book finishes with a kind of cliffhunger.

The heroine:Jadee - her father was a man who was obsessed with proving the paranormal exists. He and his research partner, Mark have spent their lives chasing cryptids like bigfoot, yeti’s and chupacabra’s. However, this time things are different when they went to the Alaskan wilderness after sightings of vampires. Her father has disappeared, and Mark is being evasive about what happened when Jadee gets to Alaska to find him.
The Hero:Lavos - he is a VampLycan who has been rounding up and killing a nest of vampires near his clan’s land in Alaska. His brother Lorn is the alpha and leader of the clan. When they get word of some humans that haven’t called their family back, Lavos and his friends go out to a house in the forest near their lands, to see what is up. They find that vampires have been busy and the homeowners are dead, and the neighbors are missing. They decide to go after the Vampires.
The Story: Jadee arrives at her father’s RV to find him and is able to speak to Mark and his wife Pam and his brother Brent over the internet from their separate camp site who tell her that they had found vampires. They tell her that she has to close all the windows and lock the doors because the vampires have escaped and are after her and them. Jadee thinks they have all lost their minds, but they show her some images of outside their trailer and she sees things that defy all odds.
This book was a thrill ride from the very beginning. There was a ton of action all the way through. I loved it. Lots of bad vampires and slaying left and right. The intimate scenes were super steamy, especially the first one. I really enjoyed the romance as well.
This book is told in multiple points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Savannah Richards. I have been surprised at how well I have been liking her narration. I have been binging the whole series so far and I haven’t gotten tired of either the storylines or the narration and that is uncommon for me. I plan to keep going with the next book right away. I can’t wait to get to the books with the GarLycans!
This one is a typical LD book. Yes, it's cliche. Wes, we already read many books with the same story. Still I love them all the same!
what was particularely interesting here was Jadee, the heroine!
She went really well with discovering that things-going-bump-in-the-night are real! She just went on making interesting intuitions and right decisions!
She didn't go crying and asking stupid questions. She just did the right things!
Lavos, the hero, was rightly impressed with her. I liked that he appreciated her for her courage and determination.
Their almost insta-lust-love story was a little bit rushed, but nice and hot all the same!
This book was fucking awesome. I think my favorite so far.
I loved that Jadee was SCARED Shitless but she was KICK Fucking ASS!! She kept a level head. No dramalama bullshit for her oh no sireeeee!!
I loved Lavos, I mean he is Lorn’s brother soooo he had that going for him. And I loved the connection he has with Jadee but I liked best was that he let her go.
And that right there says a lot about who he is and the kind of man he is.
This book has it all the action, the love and the wit ohhh the wit. I do love a good banter; this didn’t has as much at the last book but still freaking awesome. I can’t wait for the next to come out in audio… its toooo longggggg… :p I have the ebook buuuut you know me.. I am an audio lover soo I can wait.
Again Savannah Richards kills it. I love her performance in each book so far. Sept 19th can’t come fast enough…. That’s a month away.. cries :p
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
Very campy and funny, just a tiny bit of horror. Nothing too bad. I'm just a big scary cat I actually liked Jadee and Lavos was a sweetie. I like the direction the series is going. I'll be on to Wen soon. Happy reading!
I was so excited that this book was coming out so soon after book 4, and now that downside. I loved this book and have to wait for the next book. I have really been on a book roll I'm talking about all 4 1/2 5 star books and now what do I read since I loved this book so much. I'm the first to admit I love Laurann Dohner and all her books and I loved this one like all the others. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the New Species books I re-read them often but I just love her writing and have really loved all her books some more than others (of course) but I love them all.
Traveling to see her father who is convinced (yet again0 he has found something/someone supernatural Jadee is just worried about her father and his health but when she arrives everything she knew is turned upside down when she finds out that things that go bump in the night are real and they have changed her life permanently. While she is doing everything she can to stay alive someone comes in to save the day.
Lavos was just supposed to check on a family and make sure they were fine he had no idea rogue soldiers would attack and that would lead him to a strong brave human man who catches his eye like no has. Getting her safe is more important to Lavos than it should be and when he finds out the protocol for humans won't work on Jadee Lavos is shocked to realize he's happy even though she can't stay in his life.
When danger finds Jadee again she knows Lavos is the only person who can keep her safe. Seeing each other again even in these circumstances both Jadee and Lavos are happy to have more time together even if it can't last. With all the clans together and so many still hating humans Lavos knows to keep Jadee he will have to make a decision his clan or Jadee.
I get sucked into this series and books so easily. I loved Jadee she was a great heroine. She was funny and strong and smart. Lavos was another great hero in the long line of Heroes Laurann Dohner has written. With each book in this series I find more and more books I am eager for.
Jadee the human and Lavos the vamplycan. I really liked both MCs. The story starts off with a dramatic vampire attack when Jadee goes to visit her estranged monster-hunting father. She meets Lavos who is unforgettable (literally). They were drawn to each other but it seems impossible so they go their separate ways, until she needs his help again. I found her to be a strong character and he was an honorable guy. My only complaint was the ending was a bit abrupt. Not that it's not an HEA, but there were so many leads to more drama that I was surprised nothing else happened. I will just have to read/listen to the next one. Same reader for this audio book as the previous books, Savannah Richards, and she is still fantastic.
Growing up with a father determined to prove that paranormals exist, Jadee Trollis feels that her dad's latest message is just another in a long line of false hopes and dead end failures but needs to follow up and check on his well being regardless. Her dad's craziness has lead to problems in the past so making sure he's safe is a must.
Traveling to Alaska, Jadee gets trapped in her dad's custom built reinforced RV surrounded by vampires only to be rescued by a stranger who claims to be the real deal vampire hunter. End result, Jadee returns home after discovering her father is dead and all research lost but can't erase the memories of that night or the mysterious man who came to her rescue.
When the past resurfaces, Jadee knows that her only hope is to locate Lavos as only he understands and can safeguard her from the things that really do go bump in the night.

Newest installment in the LVG series that can be read as a stand alone though there are references to past installments that may confuse new to series readers but it's not a deal breaker sort of thing.
The main focus of this story seems to be the romance between the two main characters which includes angst issues on the part of Lavos. Can't say this wasn't well presented and developed but it went on for so long that I lost interest in the who/what/when/where/how because at some point I feel a guy's gotta man up and either make a move or walk away. The author seemed to focus on supporting the concept of a VampLycan/human mating that she failed to develop the emotional aspects of that same relationship.
The actual series plot of paranromals warring with each other and their role in dominance/exposure/procreation in today's society was definitely more of a minor focus in this story which became more confusing than cohesive for me. Do I agree with the direction the author has chosen to move forward (can't comment more specifically as spoiler content) based on facts/info discovered at the conclusion of this story? I guess the answer is that I've discovered I'm not the right target audience fan for this series so I won't proceed.
Regarding adult content between the main characters. There is adult content erotica but don't expect that to happen until late in the story or to any graphic depths. That's fine with me as it's quality not quantity and that erotica scenes need to compliment a story that matter. IMHO I feel that because of a lack of connecting an emotional attachment between the two and that facts/figures/action were front and center, the actual scene was awkward.
I'm also of the mind that as there was so much focus on the actual meet between the main characters to the actual claiming/mating scene, the real meat and potatoes content were rushed, condensed, and lacked any degree of importance in the story.
Secondary characters do add value to the world building and yes there are cameo appearances by characters from previous installments. That's the only draw back for anyone who hasn't read any early installments. Overall though, the characters do support a family atmosphere with all the different personalities you'd expect. Appreciated that.
This is a book that contemporary paranormal suspense fans might want to take a look at for the action-adventure-suspense content. Appreciated the core romance but wasn't overly blown away.
Ok so I inadvertantly skipped a couple of books when I thought I was just missing Lorn (who I had no desire to read about when I found out he knew the heroine was his mate but didn't claim her due to not being allowed and when had sex with other women - no thanks). I didn't realise when I picked up Lavos there was another book inbetween.
Anyhoo - I don't think this series is for me and I've mostly read everything LD has written and enjoyed it. Lavos was in a nutshell just really boring. I'm going to give the rest of the series a miss and put it down to not my cuppa.
Jadee is a no-nonsense girl and she gets sucked into her dad's crazy and dangerous situation. Lavos manages to save the day (or night) but the trouble isn't quite over. I enjoyed the action-adventure components but the romance itself felt rushed and mechanical.
Star Ratings: Heroine (Jadee): 3/5 Hero (Lavos): 4/5 Plot: 2/5 Grovel: none Cheating: none HEA: no epilogue Triggers: none
Average score: 2.5/5
Best Line: “You wouldn’t cheat on a mate? And to be clear, that’s the actual definition, not the politician one of ‘it’s not sex unless my dick is inside a vagina’ bullshit.”
Worst Line: “Why did you let me in if you planned to shoot me, honey?”
Because she was a stupid annoying ‘cliché bimbo horror movie chick’ who always does what she is not supposed to
Personal Review: Wow what a bore of a story. It felt like such a drag.
Random Ramblings •The cover guy looks weird •Carson is an…
• I think this is the longest it’s ever taken me to finish a book •His devotion to her was impressive
I liked this book, it had some humor and action but just felt too short and the ending felt a bit sudden. It also got a bit slow and boring in the middle. I liked Lavos, he's level headed and seemed reliable but definitely not one of my faves. Jadee on the other hand definitely one of my faves in this series. She is clever, no non-sense and likable and I just wish there was more to the story and we'd gotten to see more of her. In summary, I think Lavos and Jadee make a good match and hope to see more of them in the upcoming books.
It started off with a bang and was a real page turner for the first 3/4 of the book. It lagged a bit near then end as there were suddenly a lot of exposition dumps. I did like the characters.
I found the positioning for the next book awkwardly inserted into the plot. It looks to be an undercover plot, which I dislike, so I hope that's not going to be a large part of the story.
I wonder when they finally realise that human females can be really gutsy? Jadee is just the type of kick-ass heroine that I enjoy reading about. I'm not sure I could have done what she had to do to her father.
I really liked this one! At least Jadee wasn't over-the-top strong to be an annoying brat. I actually rather liked this couple! Much better than Bat! I'm looking forward to the next book!
Lavos turned into my favorite of the vamplycan books. The storyline gets deeper and more fluid with each one. I loved the heroine and the adventure is well built. I didn't feel the desire to speed read because all of the characters were essential. I immediately began searching for word of the next book in this series.
Couldn't put this one down. Kept reading it through out the day every chance I got! Lavos is definitely the tender heart in this series. Deeply romantic compared to the other guys. And let me say Jadee was a joy! That I'll fuck you up and take names later attitude was everything. I was enjoying it so much it felt short to me!
