This is hands down one of the best books on yoga that I've. This book explained poses and how they work better than any Youtube video that I've watched on yoga. I've been trying to incorporate a yoga practice into my health and wellness routine with little success. I believe this book has provided a way for me to do just that with a guide on what poses to use. If you're new to yoga or a practicing yogi this books informative instructions are a great guide to discovering yoga.
As a person that enjoys yoga but is constantly wary of aggravating chronic back pain, this book is a great resource. The book starts with a nice variety of poses spanning a degree of difficulty, prefacing each pose with a disclaimer of conditions that may be adversely affected. What I liked most were the sequences suggested for treating different health conditions. I have other books listing the different asanas, but they don't offer sequences of poses on one page, and I find myself spending more time flipping through pages to remind myself of the poses than actually practicing yoga. While I will admit that I myself am skeptical of using specific yoga poses to flush toxins or cure a broken heart (although plenty of people are into this, and that's fine too!), I did enjoy the numerous sequences pictured together and found that they've helped my at-home practice. Overall, I recommend this book.
I have had some experience with yoga but still consider my self a novice. Aventuras presents poses with simple easy to follow phrases. After going through the poses, there are routines to follow for addressing specific ailments. I can’t attest to the effectiveness of these sequences yet as I haven’t repeated them often enough. However, the poses are listed succinctly in alphabetical order in one place with the pictorial cues for each pose, making the sequences easy to find as needed and follow. I look forward to following the healing sequences regularly for better health and am glad I received a copy for review.
Since I have been taking a yoga class for years, most of poses this book were not new for me even though the class is the lowest level. But I’m sure it’s good for yoga beginners. The list of sequences was helpful. You can refer to them when you have some health problem like backache, insomnia, tense shoulder and neck, etc. Both the poses and sequels are in alphabetical order, and I don’t think it was a good idea because some poses start in another pose that is showed after them. (For example, “Cat Tilt” starts in “Table” so you need to go to the page of “Table” before read the instruction of “Cat Tilt.”)
Good introduction to yoga and meditation and some nice sequences to try for different ailments. Would love to have had a bit more information on the reasoning behind the sequences but overall great read!
I expected more explanation of healing, not just a few poses with no reasoning behind them. Nothing on how long to hold or how many repetitions. Bottom line, the healing part of the book was disappointing.
