'What do I do?' - every first-time parent's constant question - is a pressing one nowadays. But no book on parenting can be definitive or cover the ground exhaustively. All it can do is share stories and hope to offer lessons through common experiences. Suchitra Shenoy has much to share from all that she found helpful in her own 1,000 days - from pregnancy to when her newborn turned two - in Mindful Parenting. It draws on her experience and personal research to answer some common What should you know during your pregnancy? What are the signs of hunger in an infant? What are the ideal positions for breastfeeding? And that most desperate of can my newborn recognize me? As any new parent will testify, the first 1,000 days are filled with aching backs, sleepless nights and stinky diapers, but they are also blessed with giggles, unbounded love and the joy of giving. Mindful Parenting will help you embrace it for what it is.
Suchitra Shenoy grew up on bedtime stories steeped in science and a vivid moral imagination. (The robots were always good.) Intermittently, she was whisked to Indian villages. There, the stories were quite different.
Not surprisingly, she was drawn to work in the social sector. She has worked on innovative market-based approaches to poverty and is deeply interested in issues of healthcare, education and financial services for the poor. As a founding member of the Inclusive Markets team at the Monitor Group, an international consulting firm, she examined market-based solutions to poverty, especially business models that serve the poor as customers and as producers.
Suchitra is on the advisory board of Youth 4 Jobs Foundation, which works with companies to give impoverished young people the skills they need for meaningful employment. She enjoys sharing good ideas, especially inspiring ones. She has done so at Deloitte Research, Columbia University Business School, Stanford University's d.school, and the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC). She holds degrees from Brandeis University and the London School of Economics. She is moved by words, music, and photography.
If you are a new parent or caregiver, this is a must-read.
This is a guide where the author handhold you throughout the pregnancy and after childbirth in easy words. The stories take you into the journey of motherhood.
The content of the book is very crisp and clear. The Q&A given in the book clarifies many doubts of a new mother, So i will definitely recommend this book to all the new mothers 😊 Happy parenting!!
An honest book penned down by a beautiful person straight from the heart! It explores the entire landscape of a new parent's mind encapsulating the joys, the pleasures, the worries, the anger, the fear, the frustration and a lot more that all parents of a new born go through! I have found this book as a go-to whenever I feel overwhelmed with my role as a mother. Just pick a page and you'll find something for yourself. A well-researched book, I have found the interviews and anecdotes from fellow parents very helpful and the What Really Matters cheat sheet epilogue is the cherry on the cake. Thank you Suchitra for learning from your personal journey and putting it out there for others to read and learn from.
Smooth! This one. I generally do not prefer this genre so when I was given this book by a dear friend I thought let me give it a try..I mean all help is welcome when you’re a first time parent right! I finished it sooner than I expected (didn’t really think I would with my 2 month old). I liked the format of the book, the author has given a synopsis of all the research and interviews done by her with varied situations. The best part was the cheat sheet 😀 advice from experienced parents 🤘🏼 so yea I think this will help you if you’re a new parent. You won’t be a perfect parent after this but you’ll be okay with it 🤷🏻♀️🙂.
A very beautifully articulated book about the first 1000 days of parenting for new parents. Very honest as well as practical approach to guide parents and help them see different perspectives of bringing up a child.
