Broken Promises

Rate this book
Lies, infidelity, and abandonment have been an integral part of Kori Ellis’ painful past. Abandoned by her father, prior to her birth, and by her mother when she was a young girl, Kori’s life has been filled with broken promises. She learns to adapt and excel, despite these hardships. Her hard work earns her the opportunity of a lifetime—a slot in the Howard University Graduate Program. Only that would mean leaving behind the one person she doesn’t think she can live without—her long-time boyfriend—Tremell Andrews. Tremell fell in love with Kori the moment he laid eyes on her at the playground when they were just kids. Yet, despite the love he has for her, he doesn’t see a problem with sharing his body with other women. After all, it’s just meaningless sex, he tells himself. What he and Kori have is real. Kori is an intelligent woman with a bright future ahead of her. Yet, she seems destined to repeat her family’s dysfunctional past of broken promises and unfaithfulness. She isn’t oblivious to what Tremell does behind her back. But while her mind knows exactly what she must do, her heart and body always seem to win the fight. When Kori learns just how deep Tremell’s betrayal and deception run, she is at a crossroads that will forever change her life—and the lives of the people she loves and admires. Yet, in the end, she must decide between two terrible choices. Does she have the strength to finally break with her dysfunctional past and choose the life that she deserves? With everything to lose, Kori makes a promise to herself, knowing that if she fails to keep her word this time, the consequences will be more than she can bear.

I so LOVED this book and couldn't put it down to save my life! I started reading it at 11pm the night Ms. Shlya Miles herself delivered it to me and I didn't stop until 5:13 the next morning. If you haven't read this book, you are TRULY missing out. Ms. Miles is a beautiful person inside and out, and I will support EVERY project that she is behind. Love you much Shyla and I pray that you'll continue to shine your light bright
