A contemporary, heartfelt love story from an extraordinary author with the romantic sensibility of Elizabeth Lowell and the emotional breadth of Nora Roberts.
LOVE IS NOT ABOUT WHERE YOU'RE GOING...IT'S ALL IN HOW YOU GET THERE
Carefree photographer Jenny Romano is nearly as famous as her subjects. Her globe-trotting life leaves little time for a serious relationship, and that's just the way she likes it. Besides, her perfect older sister Grace already occupies the role of dutiful wife and mother--or so it seems. Suddenly, Grace needs her sister more than ever, and Jenny finds herself in the sort of small town, suburban life she swore to avoid. But there is the attractive neighbor next door....
For psychologist Elliot Drake, healing pain is an around-the-clock job that keeps his own relationships short and bittersweet. But Elliot has never met anyone like Jenny. Brash, outrageous, unpredictable, she's a force of nature--nothing at all like her cool, collected older sister. She's also made it clear that she's not sticking around for long. And suddenly, Elliot's not so sure that short-term is the way he wants things...
Taken by surprise and unsure of the next step, Elliot and Jenny are about to discover that real life happens whether you want it to or not--and truth gives wings to the heart's most important journeys.
Mary Campisi is the author of over 40 emotion-packed novels that center around hope, redemption, and second chances.
Mary should have known she'd become a writer when at age thirteen she began changing the ending to all the books she read. It took several years and a number of jobs, including registered nurse, receptionist in a swanky hair salon, accounts payable clerk, and practice manager in an OB/GYN office, for her to rediscover writing. Enter a mouse-less computer, a floppy disk, and a dream large enough to fill a zip drive. The rest of the story lives on in every book she writes.
When she's not working on her craft or following the lives of five adult children, Mary's digging in the dirt with her flowers and herbs, cooking, reading, walking her rescue lab, Henry, or, on the perfect day, riding off into the sunset with her very own hero/husband on his Ultra Limited aka Harley.
Mary Campisi has done it again.. this is the 6th book in the Second Chance series...again I was hooked from the first few pages.. it had everything in a Fantastic book.. the relationships between sister ..mothers and daughters..Husbands.. wives.. even friends.. the turns.. twists and the riamifications of their actions..I believed in the characters.. I cannot see either Grace or Jenny in me... Yet I came to love them both.. they have fears... hopes... love.. and yearnings..the burgeoning relationship between Jenny and Elliot just grabbed me..Could any of the characters learn to trust again..Learn to live with who they are not what people think they should be.. would they have the life they want and need?? I really feel all women should read this book and pray they would learn lessons of life and relationships.. Thank you Mary Campisi for a book and series I know I will read again...
This is a book that is well written as Mary Campisi always does, omg this is a heart wrenching story so have tissues at the ready, if your a mum, sister, daughter or even wife this story will have some effect on you, if not your as hard as nails (only joking) i can see myself in Grace but i so wanted to be like Jenny. i could relate to a lot in this book, i will be keeping this book on my kindle and will read it again. thank you for a great read Mary Campisi, i really enjoyed this book, i couldn't put it down, read it in 2 days, shame i had to put it down to go to work but i did get to read it in my breaks
Although the basic premise of this story was interesting and the characters were fully drawn, I found the dialogue of this book distracting. The characters often spoke in long philosophical monologues that seemed very unnatural to me. While I appreciate the life lessons the author was attempting to convey, those philosophical observations would have been more palatable and effective as narration.
In Mary Campisi’s The Butterfly Garden, the sixth installment in the That Second Chance contemporary romance series, this beautiful tale is about family, and dealing with life’s unexpected surprises that might be thrown your way. For Jenny Romano, she was a successful photographer who took photos across the world, making a name for herself. But when she receives a phone call that her sister was in a car accident in Ohio, she dropped everything and rushed over to be with her nieces and help her sister Grace come out of her coma and get her through the crisis. She later learned that her brother-in-law died at the scene. While she handled taking care of her two nieces, she discovered her brother-in-law was unfaithful and kept that knowledge to herself. But then she met Dr. Elliot Drake, a single father, and a psychologist, to help her nieces and her sister cope with various issues from the crash. She began to trust her heart to him since she needed his advice on how to deal with her mother, who always criticized her throughout her life. For Grace, she needed to be strong for herself and her children, since her perfect world had unraveled with lies and deceit of a broken marriage. As Jenny begins to see Elliot more, she begins to fall for her and wins the heart for his daughter, Sydney. As Grace gets stronger to face the light and start a new life, Jenny decides to find a new meaning of the world home, when she can be with the man she loves and still travel to take photographs closer to home and to her sister.
This tear-jerking romance is so emotionally packed with the matters of the heart. This love story is wonderfully written and beautifully told to pull your heart strings taut.. I cared for both Jenny and Grace, two different sisters, who wanted to seek approval from their mother. They both had to deal with life-changing circumstances and being accepted for who and what they are, faults alone. Elliot was a charming man who cared for his daughter alone since his wife left him to pursue her dreams. But he helped Jenny through a turbulent crisis and cared for her with his whole heart. The location in Ohio was charming and quaint in a suburban cul-de-sac neighborhood with picturesque scenic settings. The theme of the story is acceptance and being loved for who you are while finding a second chance in love and family ties.
This heartfelt contemporary romance will move your heart and have you weeping every now and then. I rated this book, four out of five stars, because it was an emotional read. If you love romances with non-stop romantic action, plenty of drama, and heart-stopping intrigue, The Butterfly Garden deserves to be read.. This is recommended for fans who love Hallmark Channel movies, Susan Wiggs, Debbie Macomber, and Barbara Delinsky.
The Butterfly Garden hits all the notes of love, betrayal, pain, grief, and redemption. Mixed with the poignancy of parental and sibling relationships, it makes you think.
The Butterfly Garden: That Second Chance: Book 6 is by Mary Campisi. This is the last book in this series, at least for now. The series is about getting second chances in life. Each book is a stand-alone book; but can also be read in order.
Grace and Jenny were sisters. However, they were as different as any two sisters could be. Grace was a natural mother, wife, and friend. She was well-organized in every aspect of her life. She had been more of a mother figure for Jenny than their own mother was to Jenny. While Grace was the perfect child, Jenny was the opposite. Rules for Grace were to be followed; but for Jenny were to be broken or at least bent. Jenny ran head-long into life while Grace thought about each step carefully before it was made. Grace scheduled family get-togethers to fit Jenny’s schedule. However, they loved each other and depended upon each other.
Jenny’s free life came to a halt when she received news that her sister was in a car accident and was in a coma. Jenny rushed to her side to be with her and to help Grace’s husband with their two girls. However, she soon learned that Grant had been in the same accident and had died. Heart-broken, Jenny plans to care for the girls became a long-term situation. She must stay with the girls and Grace since their mother was laid up with a hip replacement and couldn’t travel to be with Grace.
Before Grace came home from the hospital, Jenny learned that Grant had been having an affair. In fact, when Grace went to the restaurant to surprise Grant for their anniversary, the mistress had been there. What is Jenny to do? If she doesn’t tell Grace, would someone else tell her? If she does tell Grace, what would it do to Grace’s recovery?
Can you step up? Jenny can't believe that she is going to Italy to photograph the Pope she is hoping that this will be her big break but tragedy happens and she needs to go back home. Her sister Grace has been in a serious car accident and she is in a coma and her husband Grant is dead. Jenny will need to look after the two girls until her mother can come and help. Jenny has no ideas at all about children, she has never wanted any and she is a big junk food girl. How is she going to look after them and try get Grace through this awful time. The future is looking uncertain for them all. The girls are upset and depressed so Jenny takes them to see a psychologist but Elliott Drake isn't a typical one. He is good looking, has a young daughter and single. But Jenny has so many things to worry about right now. She needs to bring Grace home and try get them all settled before their mother arrives as Jenny needs to leave soon anyways. But everything is about to go belly up. Grace remembers that her husband was cheating on her and that she has tried for so long to be the perfect everything and she is lost and doesn't know how she is going to move on. Jenny & Elliott start seeing each other but Jenny knows that it can't lost this isn't her home anymore but can she just leave it all behind now? Can the two families get to be happy again? A good read.
Jenny, and Grace's Gilded Cage! 4.5***** Spoiler Alert!
Jenny Romano, rebellious second, wild child, now grown up single photographer is back in Ohio to care for her nieces, while her sister Grace laid in a coma. The secrets she uncovered, regarding her sister's sham marriage to cheating Grant, her now dead husband, her controlling mother's true feelings towards her, her life choices, and the suburbs picket-fence facade, opened the scabbed over ulcer, only to reveal the truth beneath the family dynamics. The child psychologist, Elliott, she took the girls, Danielle and Natalie, to see post the mom's coma and dad's death ended up being her best friend and lover as she was set free, and like the butterfly returned to Elliott and Sydney.
Amazing character development and a plot that revealed growth from all the characters, and a well deserved HEA for Jenny and Elliott. The theme of accepting people for who they are was paramount as it served as a life lesson for all. My favorite part was Natalie, or should I say mini-Jenny, cutting her hair in solidarity with her mom. That kid has heart. A Must-Read for Contemporary Romance readers.
Jenny and Grace define sisterhood and make me wish me my sister and could hold hands like they do. But we don’t sadly. I admired Jenny, Danielle, and Natalie ‘s courage. For one hair did not define them. Jenny in the process grew up and Grace found he liberty to be free and honest and trust again. Elliot Drake is the perfect match for Jenny. And grace’s husband definitely got what he deserved. Even though it did leave the girls fatherless. Jenny was able to solve the the rift between her mom and her. Sydney finally found someone in a woman figure who she could trust. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be buying more from this author.
The love story of Jenny and Elliot. Jenny come to Ohio when her sister, Grace, and brother in law, Grant, was in a car accident. Grace was in a car accident and is in a coma. Her husband, Grant is kill in that accident. If she come out of the coma will she be able to live with her secrets? Jenny has always depend on Grace, now she must be the one everyone will depend on. Can she do it? Elliott is a psychologist, his man was give to Jenny to help Danielle and Natalie hand the dead of their father. Elliot 's first wife run out on him and their daughter, Sydney. With Jenny can they have a second change at love? Great story.
Jenny has always felt like an the odd man out in her family. Her sister Grace has always being seen by Jenny's mom as the dependable reliable one. When tragedy hits Grace's family Jenny swoops in to help her older sister and her nieces. While taking her nieces to a therapist she finds out Eliot is not the old man therapist she thought he was and there becomes an attraction between them. Although this is Jenny and Eliot love story there is a substory of Grace dealing with recovering from a car accident and finding out some truths about her husband which has devastating affects on her. As with keeping with Ms. Campisi storytelling there is secrets tragedy and redemption in this novel.
I enjoyed the sisters' relationship and the story very much. Jenny's mind seemed to go in all directions before she would answer a question, which was distracting to me. Yes, I skipped the sex scene. Not something I read any more. Overall I really enjoyed the book and the all of the characters. A lot of the books I have read lately really show that people have no idea, or a very wrong idea, about how someone sees them. Then once they have an actual true conversation, everything changes and they see how they have been mistaken for years, even.
The main story is about how 2 sisters come to grips with a tragedy that effects them both and learn to go forward. I really liked the conversations between the mom and the daughters, as learning to talk with your parent as an adult and get over any childish ideas and feelings is a big step toward growing up. I felt the characters were fully fleshed out and I like the adult kid/kid to kid and adult to adult conversations as everyone seems to be real and the conversations flowed. This is a book to make you think about your close relationships with your family.
Not my cup of tea. Kept reading just to finish a reading challenge task and in the hopes of liking it better as it went along. Nope. Had to skim parts. Skipped the sex scene and remembrances of it as well.
Sex: yes. sex in a car. husband had affairs. sexual references. Language: yes Violence: angry wife speeds in the car causing an accident killing her philandering husband and ends up in a coma.
An absolutely predictable romance read during a 3.5 hour power cut, in bed, with a hot water bottle trying to keep warm. I knew that was what I would be getting and it was pretty well written with mainly somewhat believable characters all playing their parts as they would. This kind of book always strikes me as primarily a way to make money rather than literature. However if happy ending romances are what you like (and from time to time I really do) you will enjoy this.
When Jenny’s older sister, Grace, is in a serious car accident, Jenny rushes across the country to be there for her sister and her nieces.
Jenny, the free-spirit younger sister is cast with Grace, the obedient older sister, with a critical mother thrown into the mix.
Also in this book is a psychologist, Elliott, who helps Grace and her two young girls, Natalie and Danielle, deal with the aftermath of the accident. Lots of issues to deal with in this book, which is nicely written.
A tale of two very different women: one compliant with the norm and one who followed her heart. A story of learning to be what makes you happy and accepting yourself as that person. A book that will make you cry, laugh, and rejoice as each find their way. For those who enjoy stories of growth and strong women.
I much prefer fantasy to slice-of-life romances but the storytelling by Ms. Campisi in this book was so good I was hooked. I read it to the end which says a lot for this author keeping my interest when I did not want to read far less finish the book. I just needed to get the closure just like Jenny and Grace. I'm so glad I was able to be part of this story.
I loved everything about this book! The author's writing is wonderful. Her description of the relationships between sister and sister, mother and daughter, aunt and niece were real and from the heart. IMHO, the entire book is written from the heart. A compelling story. Now, I need to go purchase the first three books!!
About two sisters as different as night and day. One married with two daughters. The other a photographer who loves to travel with no real commitment to anything but herself. Suddenly they find life throws them curve balls and everything changes. add in the over baring mother and you have one interesting family.
A story about sisters which is why I downloaded it from Book Bubs. Two very different sisters. I have read 2 books by this author, both books dealt with unfaithful husbands and the consequences and heartache that resulted from it. Both books had a few graphic sexual scenes which I would rather not read. This was a stand-alone book within a series.
Mary Campisi interweaves the personalities of the Romano family to explore how people interact with those they should love—mothers, daughters; sisters; husbands and wives. Campisi offers a finely detailed exploration of the motivations of the characters that offers lasting insights.
When did Mary Campisi have a chance to meet my ex? The only difference is he never admitted to having a zipper problem even after 30 years of marriage to me and married to another woman for two years before the divorce. He argued with his second wife during their divorce when she proved he was a bigamist. No I have never remarried or met anyone I would consider.
I loved this book. From the first few pages I was I emotionally involved in this story. I was laughing, crying shouting at my kindle throughout the book. The story follows 2 sisters grace and jenny. The relationship between the sisters is explored, tested and gut wrenchingly felt as tragedy strikes. A good emotional read
Relationships are hard, the anniversary surprise would be something absolutely stunning!
The beauty of love in family is that it is there when you need it without questions and without fail. Reliability and trust, when shattered may need hope and Grace to rebuild. The love and honesty of family may be what helps. Great read.
Life is never how it is imagined. Sisters are always sisters. I've had that with mine and have witnessed it with my daughters. No one ever said life would be easy, but siblings are always there. This book brings out the love and trials of that! It's a great book to read.
story of two sisters. one very complacent and the other, very head strong and unique. A unfaithful husband is killed in a car accident and life changes dramatically for the sisters.
This was an interesting story, but I found the flow a little bit slow. There was a lot of action at the beginning, but then it didn't keep my interest long enough to read for more than a half hour at a time once a day.
