Off Screen #8

Script Doctor

Rate this book
Addison Blake and Emma Bronson are about to embark on a new adventure. After a few years, away from the small screen, Addison is about to revive the hit television show OFF SCREEN in a spin-off called ON SCREEN.

Ironically, this time around Emma's role will be off the screen. As the pair head into the first week of filming, Emma's parents take the couple's two daughters away to Kansas so that Addy and Emma can concentrate on their new project. It will be the longest separation Addy and Emma have had from their daughters. It will challenge them both, but also give them an opportunity to rediscover each other.

Full of humorous banter, friendship, family and love; this erotic episode in the OFF SCREEN series will give readers a glimpse into a week in Addy and Emma's life.

I’ve read two stories by Armstrong days apart, both of them being the 8th work in their particular series. Road Blocks was about couples coupling up, family, decisions, and politics. This story here, ‘Script Doctor’ to be clearer, was about sex (oh, and family; and marriages/weddings/coupling up – mostly sex though).

As I mentioned in my status updates, this seemed like a text version of a porn film. Loose scenes linking together graphic depictions of a sexual nature. I didn’t count the pages of the actual sexual acts, though I did count the number of said acts (all but one involving Addy and Emma; the other involved Chris and Tam) – and I’d guess that there was about . . . oh, something like 80 to 90 percent of the pages were filled with something of a sexual nature (thinking about, talking about, or actual fucking). Possible there was as little as 60% of the pages devoted to such activity, but it did sure seem like the four or five fucking sessions took about 80 to 90% of the short story.

So, what else happened beyond Addy and Emma humping each other non-stop. Well, there was whining (‘my kids are away from me! Should I actually get married! Will she still want me after I actually marry her! My boss, Dick . . . erson is a dick! I don’t want to actually communicate with my wife, instead I want to scream and whimper!’), plus deep personal conversations between two characters; different characters; several times, and watching kids run around doing stuff, plus smirking . . . lots and lots of smirking, oh god the number of people smirking! More than 8% of smirking, because, as my status updates noted, there was 8% of the entire story that involved smirking that occurred between 31 and 39% of the story. Not sure what it means or says, or what, but the sex scene that occurred after the 8% of smirking was only 5% of the entire short story. As in, there was more smirking going on in that one scene than there was fucking in the other scene.

Right, sorry, distracted myself. Apparently Emma grew up enjoying spending a week of the year away from her parents (I think with an aunt and uncle, can’t recall) and wanted the same for her own children. She knows the baby won’t remember, but the 2 year old likely will – so she’s sent her kids off to spend a week in Kansas with her parents (sent off as in the parents came and got them).

With the kids away, Emma and Addy fuck. A lot. Almost non-stop but for the times they stopped – because, you know, work. Addy’s spin off show is gearing up and beginning filming during this same week the kids are away. I should call it Addy and Emma’s spin off show, since both are producers on it and both spend time writing on it (I think that’s what the ‘script doctor’ title is referring to – Emma editing, and outright writing new scenes despite ‘not being a writer’ (there’s a scene where one of the coworkers turned to Addy and told her the script for a particular show was the best she ever wrote . . . only she didn’t write it, Emma did)). Oh, and Tamara and Chris continue in their really long engagement until they stop due to wedding. Oh, and they also fuck, just to add spice to events and stuff.

Did I mention that there’s a lot of sex in this story? Oh, hehe – almost forgot, but noticed it on the shelving – at least one of the sex scenes includes a bit of BDSM (‘the only way you can show that you trust me is to allow me to tie you up’ – not actual words used, but implied by the BDSM scene; Emma is quite bad at communicating, apparently (evidence to the contrary – her talks with Tamara, with her mother, with her kids, with her coworkers, with her script editing and writing) and finds it easier to ‘show’ through action (not a new concept in this series in terms of Emma).

Despite my mumblings in the status updates, and my . . . um . . . nature, I still found the story to be good enough to rate 3.5 stars. Mostly due to everything else occurring, you know, the ‘filler’ between the porn scenes.

Can't wait for more!

What can I say about this installment what others have not yet said! Therefore I keep it short and I can only say it was again a great pleasure to read about Addy and Emma, their family and friends. The banter, the hilarious interaction between the characters are spot on. The sprout is a real sweetheart that you can't resist liking and oh my, there are parts in the story that are very very hot and steamy. J.A. has spoilt us again with this installment. Thank you for given us so much joy with your books.

I think this series is over for me. Emma and Addison have been together for seven years, they're married, they have two children, their careers are fine, their friends are fine and their families are fine. Unless one of them dies or cheats there is not much left to say and if either of those things happen I probably won't want to read it anyway.

I downloaded this along with several other J A Armstrong books, but when I realised it was really a short story/novella I intended to leave it until the next Off Screen book 9 came out. It’s now been nearly a year and a half and there is no sign of book nine, so I decided I might as well try it now.

In retrospect I should have kept to my original plan, as this might have been a reasonable introduction to a main novel, however as a ‘stand alone’ read it was a bit of a disappointment. Apart from the almost continuous sex very little else happened.

Color me blushing. Addy and Emma send Vicki and Hannah, their two daughters, to visit Grand-parents in Kansas for a week. This leads the couple to recapture their frisky side. I’m not kidding. Usually these stories may have one or two intimate scenes. This one is the shortest book in the series and contains five. For more details read Lexxi’s review which is hilarious. There is some work on the series for Addy and Emma while the kids are away. Also best friends Tamara and Christie decide to move forward with wedding plans. Addy and Emma are delightful as a couple and I love them advising Tam about the wedding. I expect a little more storyline and have high hopes for the next book.

Addy and Emma continue to bring much joy and humorous banter to their families, friends and this reader. I absolutely adore the way in which JA writes the part of their little precocious, and rather demanding, four year old sprout Vicki. She spells the words just the way so many little tykes say them which makes it so authentic and impossibly cute while reading. I always get a chuckle!

On the flipside of the cuteness is the very loving, insightful interactions between all the adult characters, their heartfelt discussions with family and friends and the hot, steamy connections between our main characters. This series is getting more powerful with each new book. I am a huge fan!

Wonderful!

In this eighth installment in the story of Emma and Addison, Emma's parents take the women's children to Kansas for a week. It the first time the couple have had to themselves in their oldest, Vicky, was born over 4 years ago. Meanwhile, money backers at the studio are pressing Addison to get Emma to return for the movie. Surprises are in store all around in the most sensual installment so far. Be sure to add this series to your must-read list.

Good addition

I think this was another great book in the series. I really like to read about how their relationship had evolved over the years. I like that it takes a frank look at the emotional side of parenting and still keeping the adult relationship fresh.

Playful, yet powerfully emotional

This episode is extremely playful and sexy, but is also full of powerfully emotional scenes with Addy and Emma, as well as Tam and Christy, Tam and Addy, and Tam and Emma. It's really very good.

This is book 8 in the Off Screen series. I have really enjoyed this series and hope that Ms. Armstrong writes another book for this series. I love the characters. They are so believable and the plot interesting. If you haven't read one of her series/book, I recommend that you do.

Steamy doesn't even touch this episode of Off Screen. Emma and Addy are still madly in love and Emma is determined to keep it that way by bringing out a side of their relationship that has only existed in fantasy. One of my absolute favorites of J.A. Armstrong's couples!

3 stars. Christie and Tam were the highlights here. Other than that this was just sex. It did nothing to move the series forward and it added nothing to the series overall.

Love is Amazing....

I love the writing, it is a wonderful story. I love that there is a wedding, talk of new journeys and new starts to life. I love how Addison and Emma love each other. That after so many years together they still find new ways to tell and show each other how much love they have for one another. It reminds me that no matter what happens in life to always remember to take some time for you and your spouse. I love these characters and can't wait for the next book.

Well done

This was a very enjoyable addition to the series. I will always read anything by Armstrong, but the last couple installments of this series felt a little weak. I am happy to say book 8 was as strong as the first few. I cant wait for more.
