So I Married a Sorcerer is book two in The Embraced series by Kerrelyn Sparks. Even though it’s on my list of books to read, I have not read the first book in this series yet. Even though this is labeled a stand alone, I admit that in the beginning, I struggled a bit with understanding all of the details of this world. Kerrelyn has taken great pains and constructed a very detailed setting. In time, I found my way and thoroughly enjoyed this book. There was so much more to these main characters than what you saw on the surface and I enjoyed peeling back each layer as the book progressed.
Brigitta was raised by nuns on the Isle of Moon along with her adopted sisters. She knows nothing of her life before she came to be there. Brigitta is embraced. This means that she was born on the night of the eclipse of their two moons, something that happens twice a year. Whatever babies are born on this night are blessed with some sort of special ability or power.
Brigitta and her sisters are on their first voyage away from the island to visit their sister, Luciana. But their ship is stopped by pirates. Not just any pirates but the infamous Rupert, a pirate known to have the ability to harness the wind, a Wind Sorcerer. But the only person aboard the ship that Rupert is interested in is Brigitta.
Brigitta and her sisters like to predict their futures with the magical telling stones. Hers has predicted that she would be pursued by seven suitors, and that there is to be a tall, handsome stranger in her future. There is no way Rupert could be that tall handsome stranger, could he?
Rupert is a pirate, yes, but he is a good pirate. He only steals gold from one person, the evil King Gunther, who just happens to be the brother of Brigitta. He was sure she would be just as bad as her brother. But the more he got to know her, the more he began to doubt this. Is it possible that she is innocent? That she knew nothing of her brother? That she is as kind and pure as she seems? But Rupert has a tragic past full of secrets. Secrets that he can reveal to no one. Especially the beautiful Brigitta. He must remind himself the most important lesson he learned growing up, trust no-one.
This book was fun at times, a little bit sexy, some sweet moments, and some pretty intense moments as well. I also loved that there were sort of two love stories happening here. Sister Fallyn is sent along with Brigitta to protect her when she is taken by Rupert. She was hilarious. Along the way she has some pretty shocking developments uncovered as well.
This book was actually pretty long! But the story kept moving and I was never bored. A lot happens and I loved the way it all worked in the end. There are a lot of fans of this series already so I know you will all love this second book. If you are interested in it and haven’t read the first book, I do recommend reading it first. I think it would help with the overall enjoyment and make it easier to fall into this fabulous world this author has created.

The second book in the series and I think you really need the first one to get it. The world is pretty complicated to just walk into without some set-up, but it's worth it to learn. Also, these stories have a bit of a retelling-fairy tales thing going. The first one had a slight Beauty and the Beast, and this one has a tiny Snow White feel. They are not retellings, exactly, but just have a few similarities.
I kept waiting for it....
Our heroine is Brigitta, who gets kidnapped by a Pirate named Rupert. I don't know about you, but when I hear the name Rupert, I'm not exactly thinking dark, sexy, dangerous pirate. I'm thinking accountant with a comb-over, but hey, I have a thing about book character names.
Does this mean there is a Eugene in our future?
Well, I might give him a pass because:
He knows how to work it.
Rupert's not his real name, although his real one isn't any better, he's actually a lost prince and is planning on using Bridgitta to get back his throne that was stolen by her evil brother, the king. You know, with all of the research I've done on any kind of king and queens, it seems the road to the crown is pretty dangerous. I think I'd rather be one of the happy villagers in the story that breaks into song.
Bridgitta is allowed to bring a chaperone on board the pirate ship, who happens to be a nun. A nun who is very attracted to the captain of the ship, and who is very "afraid" of being ravished by these pirates.
When she first sees the Captain and fellow pirates:
"Don't look at them. It might give you lurid thoughts. Thank the goddesses I am immune to such things" She waved a hand to fan her face. "Why, I hardly even notice it."
About the proposed ravishing:
"When the captain comes to ravish us, I will offer myself."
Bridgitta gasped. "Sister, I don't think - - "
"I will make the supreme sacrifice!... It is my duty. Ye must allow me to do this for you."
...Brigitta hadn't wanted to diminish the nun's act of bravery. Even so, she had a strange feeling that Sister Fallyn might actually be disappointed if the proposed ravishment never occurred.
Of course, the ravishing didn't happen. These were noble pirates. Or, maybe gay pirates?
Maybe you just weren't their type.
The story does a little dragging in the middle, but eventually there is a tournament for Brigitta's hand that has seven competitors. I think that's as close as we get to the fairy tale. Oh, and there are apples in the story. Hmm... now that I think about it, I'm wondering if it was even supposed to be a Snow White-ish kind of story at all. Those are some pretty loose threads... I might be reaching on the fairy tale thing.
True enough. I'm not even sure what I'm talking about anymore, but the story was fun and romantic and cute, so I enjoyed it.

5 - "Don't ever leave me..." Stars!
We return to the world of Aerthlan, and all its magic with the second book in Kerrelyn Sparks The Embraced series. I didn’t think she would be able to top the first book, but So I Married a Sorcerer was even better.
I definitely think this is a series that needs to be read in order and not as standalones. So much happened in the first book, that gave you the introductions to many of the characters in this story that you lose a huge amount of background if you don’t read them in order. This book was an absolute thrill a minute from its beginning, and I absolutely adored every damn page of it.
This man might believe all his secrets were safe, but he couldn’t hide them from her...
The chemistry between Pirate Rupert and Brigitta was palpable from the time of her kidnapping and only got stronger between them as they both found out more about the other. Both of them are not who everyone initially takes them to be, and again the author weaves the revelations into the story so that everything is gradually unveiled as the bigger picture plays out.
"I notice everything about you..."
This is a long book by today’s standards, and I think one of the biggest compliments I can pay it is to say it didn’t feel long, I got lost in the story, the characters and the world that the author has created to such an extent, I hated that it had to come to an end.
Only a fool would lust after the enemy.
The secondary characters make this book as good as it is, Brody is back in the thick of it and Sister Fallyn had me in fits of giggles at points. The multiple POVs give you the story from many different views as well, I just loved, loved, loved it.

I know I shouldn’t with my life away, but March 2018 cannot come soon enough for me. Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon gives us Gwenmore’s story, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.!

A mask won't hide his secrets
First off, I really enjoyed So I Married a Sorcerer. Now, while I really enjoyed it, I think the title is a wee bit misleading. Married? Bloody hell!! I don’t know about you, but when I see Married in the title, I automatically think that the couple is married throughout most of the book. Maybe, deep down, I’m also wishing and hoping that it’s going to be a story where the couple connects early and fight the evil forces as a team. In reality, So I Married a Sorcerer is a slow burn of epic proportions. They’re on opposites sides at first, then they struggle to trust each other and then they have conflict. Look, I’m not overly disappointed, as like I said, I enjoyed it. I’m just a wee bit disappointed because I didn’t get what I expected.
We start the story with Brigitta and her sisters on board a ship heading to their other sister Queen Luciana, who is about to give birth. They are not sisters by blood but they are connected because they are all Embraced. By being Embraced you hold special abilities. Unfortunately, even though it’s a gift you have from birth, it is seen as wrong. Most Embraced have to hide their abilities or they will be hunted down and killed for it.
The Embraced series sees each of the ladies heading out into the world and finding their fate. It seems fate has been at play for a wee while. Brigitta knows that her fate is coming and she’s had a few hints on what is coming to her and for her. She never guessed that her fate would lie with a pirate and that all along she was the lost princess of Tourin.
Rupert, the pirate, has revenge on his mind and will stop at nothing to obtain it. When Princess Brigitta sails into his life, it seems like all his plans will come to fruition. What he wasn’t planning on, was being swept off his feet. See, Rupert plays the pirate in disguise by wearing a mask. If anyone was to find out who he really is, revenge would have to take a backseat because his life would be in jeopardy.
Rupert’s got more secrets under his mask than Brigitta could ever guess and she’s determined to work them all out. See, Brigitta’s Embraced gift is the ability to determine if a person is keeping secrets and also being able to “see” where lost items are. One of the secrets she unearths is that they are connected…maybe Rupert's the man she’s fated to marry.
I enjoyed So I Married a Sorcerer. The characters were interesting and the world building original and easy to follow. The action and adventure portions kept my heart pumping and I loved when we get to see the Embraced use their powers. We get to meet up with characters from How To Tame a Beast in Seven Days. Brody, the shape-shifter, and the Nuns who protected the girls while they were growing up are back. We also get to meet some very interesting new characters, especially the army dude who lives with the dragons (sorry, can’t remember his name). I have a feeling I’ll get to know his name very, very soon.
I really do love this series. While, So I Married a Sorcerer wasn’t exactly what I expected, it was still pretty awesome. I am a big fan of paranormal romance with bossy alpha heroes and their women, who won’t sit back and be saved (like their told). I will definitely be going on in the series, and recommend other readers to give it a try. Best to start at the very beginning…a very good place to start.

Rupert is also embraced. His gift is harnessing the wind. Rupert is a pirate. He hides deep secrets. Rupert is seeking revenge against the Tourin King.
When Brigitta and her sisters are traveling to meet their sister, Queen Luciana, in Eborni, their ship is attacked by pirates. Rupert demands the Tourin princess join him on his vessel. If she does not, the pirates will fire flaming arrows at the ship. Brigitta and a nun are kidnapped by Rupert and his pirates when they are forced against their will to join them. What Rupert and Brigitta do not count on is the fierce attraction between them. Can Rupert seek his revenge now that he has Brigitta? Do they have a future together?
I found the main characters compelling. The secondary characters are a good support for the protagonists. The plot and subplots are simple but keeps the reader's interest. There is a cliffhanger so we are left with a question or two. The last chapter and the epilogue put a nice finish on this novel. The love scene is tastefully written. This is another great book by Kerrelyn Sparks. I look forward to the next one.

What I Liked:
So far, this series has been a delight. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun reading a fantasy/paranormal romance novel! I mean, I'm sure I've read fun ones in the past, but somehow, this series seems to stick out to me. I adored How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days, and I am happy to say that I loved this companion sequel just as much!
This book follows Brigitta, one of the five orphans at the convent on the Isle of Moon. Luciana is now a queen, living with her husband the king and pregnant with twins. The other three girls, including Brigitta, are on the way to visit Luciana and Leo, when their ship is taken over by the military. As it would turn out, Brigitta is a hidden princess, and her half-brother (a king) wants her to to come back to the kingdom. Brigitta hands herself over to pirates (who were lying in wait) in order to save her friends and in order to be safe from her half-brother's military. The pirates are commanded by Rupert, a wind sorcerer who is bent on getting revenge on Gunther (Brigitta's half-brother). Brigitta is now Rupert's captive, but Rupert finds that he doesn't want to use her for his vengeful means. Brigitta knows she should despise the pirate, but the rogue is not as dastardly as his pirate's reputation would make him out to be. There is something more to Rupert, something beyond his pirate lifestyle and Embraced abilities. Rupert is hiding something that could change his and Brigitta's lives forever.
The best way to describe this book is fun and romantic. It has such a light tone to it, and it's also so sweet and occasionally steamy. There were many times when I chuckled out loud, and sighed, and smiled. This is a romance novel that you don't have to be in the mood to read. It is drama-free, angst-free, etc. Such an enjoyable read!
Brigitta is the type of heroine that I would love to be friends with, in real life. I can see parts of myself in her, so I relate to and understand her (even though obviously we have such different lives, ha!). She is kind, selfless, and sweet, and innocent in many ways. But she is also fierce and loyal and determined. She isn't totally strong-willed and kickbutt and gutsy like many of the heroines we see in romance today. I respect those heroines, but I love this different type of heroine. The kind that is sweet and innocent, but also strong and assertive in her own way.
And then there is Rupert, who is a perfect foil to Brigitta. He is tall, handsome, muscular, commanding, and simply put, big. He has a presence and an air of leadership about him. He is secretive and reveals little about himself, but he is very selfless and chivalrous. He does kidnap Brigitta but he lets her go pretty quickly - in a sense. She doesn't leave him even when he tells her that it is her choice, partly because he can protect her, partly because she was already interested in him.
The romance is so sweet and swoony! You might think, Stockholm Syndrome much??? But that is not present in this story. Brigitta isn't quite held against her will - okay, she is, but she isn't. It's hard to explain. Rupert gives her the choice to go but she leans who he is, and she decides to fight with - and for - him. I love the progression of the romance! They have instant chemistry from the start, and there are some seriously steamy moments between them as the story goes on. I liked seeing Brigitta break down Rupert's walls and I liked seeing him let her in. These two are so sweet together, and they get along so perfectly. A balanced pair, not without their faults.
We get to see a lot of the characters from the previous book, especially Brody! Brody is the coolest messenger/friend. I like how he watched over Brigitta and also gave Rupert a chance. I loved seeing the tiny cameos of Luciana, Leo, and the new presence of their twins. Too bad we don't get to know the twins' names though. We also get to see the other three orphan girls, and we get a peek into their futures. I can't wait to read their books!
Some of the new characters that I loved were Stefan, the captain of Rupert's ship, and Sister Fallyn, who wasn't technically new because she is a nun at the Isle of Moon. But the two of them have their own romance going on, which is hilarious and adorable. It was fun to see the captain and the nun skirt around each other and still fall for each other.
This book has a fairly fast pace, though it isn't overwhelmingly so. I appreciated the quick pace and the constant change of events. All of the action was exciting and interesting. You will never be bored if you pick up this book! Heck, I feel like rereading it already. It's not just a romance novel. The plot surrounding the story - Brigitta's impending meeting of her evil brother, her brother's plans for her, Rupert's plan for saving her, etc. - is just as engrossing as the unfolding romance.
All in all, this book was so fun and wonderful. My heart is happy and full. I hope the rest of the series continues to be this lovely to experience!

I can't think of anything specific, other than I wanted more sexy times between Rupert and Brigitta! There were only two sexy times (and one wasn't actually sex?) and hey, this is a full-length novel. Let them get it on! Don't get me, wrong the tension building up to things was really well-written. But the one sexy time happened towards the end. There needed to be one or two more!
Anyway that's not a deal-breaker. The chemistry is hot, so I wanted more, but that's okay!

If you like adult paranormal romance, or adult fantasy romance, or simple adult romance in general, definitely try this series. How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days was excellent, and this new book was just as great. I love the pairings - sweet girls and sexy, commanding men. I know the trope isn't for everyone but I love it!

What I Liked:
So far, this series has been a delight. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun reading a fantasy/paranormal romance novel! I mean, I'm sure I've read fun ones in the past, but somehow, this series seems to stick out to me. I adored How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days, and I am happy to say that I loved this companion sequel just as much!
This book follows Brigitta, one of the five orphans at the convent on the Isle of Moon. Luciana is now a queen, living with her husband the king and pregnant with twins. The other three girls, including Brigitta, are on the way to visit Luciana and Leo, when their ship is taken over by the military. As it would turn out, Brigitta is a hidden princess, and her half-brother (a king) wants her to to come back to the kingdom. Brigitta hands herself over to pirates (who were lying in wait) in order to save her friends and in order to be safe from her half-brother's military. The pirates are commanded by Rupert, a wind sorcerer who is bent on getting revenge on Gunther (Brigitta's half-brother). Brigitta is now Rupert's captive, but Rupert finds that he doesn't want to use her for his vengeful means. Brigitta knows she should despise the pirate, but the rogue is not as dastardly as his pirate's reputation would make him out to be. There is something more to Rupert, something beyond his pirate lifestyle and Embraced abilities. Rupert is hiding something that could change his and Brigitta's lives forever.
The best way to describe this book is fun and romantic. It has such a light tone to it, and it's also so sweet and occasionally steamy. There were many times when I chuckled out loud, and sighed, and smiled. This is a romance novel that you don't have to be in the mood to read. It is drama-free, angst-free, etc. Such an enjoyable read!
Brigitta is the type of heroine that I would love to be friends with, in real life. I can see parts of myself in her, so I relate to and understand her (even though obviously we have such different lives, ha!). She is kind, selfless, and sweet, and innocent in many ways. But she is also fierce and loyal and determined. She isn't totally strong-willed and kickbutt and gutsy like many of the heroines we see in romance today. I respect those heroines, but I love this different type of heroine. The kind that is sweet and innocent, but also strong and assertive in her own way.
And then there is Rupert, who is a perfect foil to Brigitta. He is tall, handsome, muscular, commanding, and simply put, big. He has a presence and an air of leadership about him. He is secretive and reveals little about himself, but he is very selfless and chivalrous. He does kidnap Brigitta but he lets her go pretty quickly - in a sense. She doesn't leave him even when he tells her that it is her choice, partly because he can protect her, partly because she was already interested in him.
The romance is so sweet and swoony! You might think, Stockholm Syndrome much??? But that is not present in this story. Brigitta isn't quite held against her will - okay, she is, but she isn't. It's hard to explain. Rupert gives her the choice to go but she leans who he is, and she decides to fight with - and for - him. I love the progression of the romance! They have instant chemistry from the start, and there are some seriously steamy moments between them as the story goes on. I liked seeing Brigitta break down Rupert's walls and I liked seeing him let her in. These two are so sweet together, and they get along so perfectly. A balanced pair, not without their faults.
We get to see a lot of the characters from the previous book, especially Brody! Brody is the coolest messenger/friend. I like how he watched over Brigitta and also gave Rupert a chance. I loved seeing the tiny cameos of Luciana, Leo, and the new presence of their twins. Too bad we don't get to know the twins' names though. We also get to see the other three orphan girls, and we get a peek into their futures. I can't wait to read their books!

Amazing second book. It was just WOW!
My heart just broke for Rupert and everything he had been through. Brigitta is just perfect for him. Loved the side romance with Sister Fallyn and Stefan. There was lots of drama, action, plus sweet times and romance. Loved seeing all the sisters again. Can't wait for the next book...dragons...

This was a highly entertaining book and I'm kicking myself for passing up book 1. The covers didn't really snag my attention. It took reading a few glowing reviews to get me to try this book and I am so glad that I did. This is one of those cases to not judge a book by it's cover.
There is so much going on in this book. It had a little bit of everything from action adventure, fantasy world building with a taste of historical romance. It was fast paced and had great character and plot development.
I loved all the many characters we get introduced to that leaves me hoping there will be quite a few books to come in this series. While this book was romantic it wasn't heavy on couple time, but that is to be expected from a series that has so much going on in it.
It was such a fun, light read that I think this could easily be recommended to everyone who loves fantasy/paranormal. I will be anxiously waiting for book 3! ARC provided by NetGalley.

So I Married A Sorcerer is the second book in the Embraced series. And first off I want to mention how GOOD this book was, just as good if not better than book one. We have our heroine, Brigitta, who grew up on a island,along with her other adopted sisters. Brigitta knows that her fate is destined with the number seven and that it will happen very soon. While traveling with her fellow sisters, to join Luciana in the birth of her child. What they didn't expect was a mysterious and dangerous man, an infamous pirate who needs Brigitta to get justice for the crimes done against himself and his family. Rupert has had to become a pirate out of necessity. And he isn't your average pirate leader either. He is also one of the "Embraced" and has special gifts especially when it comes to the wind. He is only looking to get what he deserves, and unfortunately that means putting an innocent woman at risk.
So I Married A Sorcerer is a brilliantly written installment in this new and exciting series. In this book however, we have a sexy love story that takes place on the sea and a bit on dry land. At first it begins as your hero the big bad wolfy pirate kidnapping the lovely heroine for his own "purposes". However there is a lot more to it than that. Brigitta's father slaughtered Rupert's family, the legitimate family to take over the kingdom. They have only reaped power and wealth from the people from this kingdom, and never give back. Rupert has plans to take over the throne again, and become the kind of ruler his people deserve and can respect and support. Now at first, Rupert is a very mysterious character that we see. And boy did I love the aire of mystery and intrigue that surround him. I never know what to expect from this character and these twists give back to the reader some ins and outs of a story that leaves you on edge and the dynamics of the story are never ending. I honestly had no clue that this story would go from a pirate romance and turn into our heroine battling for the man that she loves, but also for what is right. Once she learns the truth behind Rupert's past and what terrible acts her family have committed, she wants to right those wrongs even though she is very innocent.
The romance that is written here is sweet and poignant and still full of sturdiness and passion to add various levels of depths for any romance reader. What I really enjoyed about this pair, is how well they end up complimenting each other and how well they fight for each other. And boy do they fight for each other, in all the most important ways. We see the beautiful ways they connect on deep levels of intimacy and how they give back to each other constantly. And quite honestly I was feeling humbled when reading their love tale, seeing how honest and fresh and vibrant this was. You will be hanging onto every word, phrase, paragraph and chapter that you see them together.
You found my heart, all shriveled up with hate and the need for revenge. And you filled it with love and joy.
We become introduced into some entertaining secondary characters that will make you laugh continually. Rupert's friends are simply entertaining and of course we get some fun bantering that leaves you smiling from beginning to end. So I Married A Sorcerer is not your typical historical fantasy that we have opened to us. This author has built up some wonderful world building and we get to learn some fun facts about this world that Kerrelyn Sparks has created and seeing these various lands become real and vividly portrayed in such a way that holds your attention and refuses to let go.
This isn't a story that is predictable, sane, dull and without excitement. Its the exact opposite of everything that you would expect, because this book takes so many twists and turns that you will barely be able to keep up. I advise readers to go into this story with a open mind, plenty of free time, and expect plenty of adventure, passion and some levels of danger and intrigue that will make your day go from average to "on top of the world" thrilling. I loved this book! I enjoyed the first book in the series, How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days, so I was really excited to start reading this book. This book was just as good as I had hoped it would be. Once I started reading it, I didn't want to put it down and ended up reading almost the entire novel in a single day. I didn't want it to end because I was having such a good time getting lost in this magical world. This really was a joy to read.
Brigitta and her sisters from the Isle of Moon are on their way to be with Luciana. During their travels, their boat becomes a target and Brigitta learns that she is actually a princess. She ends up on Rupert's pirate ship along with a nun to act as her protector. Rupert is a pirate and is known as a sorcerer. He has the power to control the wind which turns out to be rather handy while at sea.
I really liked Brigitta and Rupert together. They just clicked right from the start. They had a lot of things in common and just seemed to connect with each other and had a lot of chemistry. Their relationship did move pretty fast but it worked with in the context of the story. I loved that Brigitta and Rupert had equally exciting backgrounds and I wanted to keep learning more about each of them.
This book was incredibly exciting to read. There were a lot of scenes that were just filled with action. I loved how Brigitta and Rupert's special abilities were described in this story. I wouldn't have imagined how exciting the power to control the wind could really turn out to be. This book really does a little bit of everything with some really funny moments worked into the story and a pretty entertaining secondary romance.
I would highly recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance. While I do think it is possible to read this book as a stand alone novel, I think this series is best enjoyed in order. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in this delightfully entertaining series.

I've read this book like a parody.
It is similar to the film The Princess Bride, where the princess is behaving like a cliche princess, the prince like a cliche prince the villain the same, the secondary characters the same!
Just change "Inigo Montoya" into "Rupert" and there you have it!!!
And here just change "Roberts" into "Rupert" and there you have it again!!!
Rupert is a true prince! He will do everything for Brigitte!!!
And the villain??? He's covered in gold and will sell his own sister for more!!! LOL
Even the priest at the end is like this!!!
If you read the book this way, you'll have a lot of fun, but if you take it seriously, you'll roll your eyes until they fall out! LMAOOO

So I married a Sorcerer is a standalone and is part of the Embraced series. The series have silly covers and silly titles and I find it a bit misleading, but it works in your benefit. This isn’t a smutty book, I would even describe it more as a young adult read with a well thought out storyline and a lot of character development. You know those pretty covers with a young lady in a beautiful dress that is flowing in the wind? Yeah, it should have one of those covers.
So, don’t think over the top historical fantastical romance, think more of a slow burn fantastical romance.
Brigitta is the main Heroine and it’s her story in how she married Rupert, but it’s not actually about her being married to him. Again, it’s perfectly fine, just a slightly misleading title.
I really liked this book. Brigitta is kidnapped by Rupert who is a infamous pirate. A good portion of the book is set on the boat and I really liked that. I liked the interaction between Brigitta and Rupert. I liked understanding why Rupert kidnapped her and how they were connected because everything is connected in this book.
In this world the ones Embraced (those that have special gifts) are killed, so everyone keeps his and her powers a secret. Rupert and Brigitta don't have a crazy power, but it’s how they use it I found really interesting.
The book is really meaty and a lot goes on. A lot of detailed is there for you to follow. I felt like the author did a really good job in building the relationship between Brigitta and Rupert. There was good banter and some good tension that kept you interested in the storyline.
This book really surprised me and I will continue on with the series.

If born on the night that the two moons overlap children receive magical powers but those who are jealous and fearful have declared the the Embraced should be put to death . Parents hide their Embraced children and one such is Brigitta who grew up with nuns and has no idea exactly who she is.
Rupert is a notorious pirate and self styled admiral of the fleet he commands but he's also considered by many to be a sorcerer as he can control the wind. Rupert is determined to avenge his family and in order to do that he needs the estranged sister of a despotic King. Capturing Brigitta is easy but letting her go might not be quite in Ruperts plans!
The setting for these books feels more like fantasy than paranormal although magical things can and do happen. Plus the author clearly has fun confounding her readers with titles to titivate their imagination. This is a sweet romance with a couple that are so obviously right for each other. I loved the somewhat overt comments that Rupert threw at Brigitta but she constantly surprises him as she doesn't cringe virginally away but steps up and pushes right back! Yes I liked being back in this world the author has created and its more a fun than a sexy read. That doesn't mean the romance isn't there no, it's just that we get to know the couple, share their courtship and relish the adventure they go on. We do meet characters from the previous book How To Tame A Beast In Seven Days and even more exciting is the fact that we meet magical creatures who surely will reappear in the next book . Romance, action on the high seas and a really entertaining plot so yes I happily recommend this book . Sit back and drift to a simpler time with heroes and villains and may the adventures continue!

Rupert is a notorious pirate and self styled admiral of the fleet he commands but he's also considered by many to be a sorcerer as he can control the wind. Rupert is determined to avenge his family and in order to do that he needs the estranged sister of a despotic King. Capturing Brigitta is easy but letting her go might not be quite in Ruperts plans!
The setting for these books feels more like fantasy than paranormal although magical things can and do happen. Plus the author clearly has fun confounding her readers with titles to titivate their imagination. This is a sweet romance with a couple that are so obviously right for each other. I loved the somewhat overt comments that Rupert threw at Brigitta but she constantly surprises him as she doesn't cringe virginally away but steps up and pushes right back! This is the 2nd book in the series, and it was just as awesome on book 1! While you don’t have to read them in order, I highly recommend it because everything is just better when you know the history! This book is for adults only due to the steamy content, and beware this sorcerer will bewitch you!
Kerrelyn Sparks is one of my favorite authors! You might wonder why I don’t have more reviews of her work. I’ve loved her work since before I started reviewing especially the Love at Stake series! I need to go back and read them and write reviews, but there are so many amazing books releasing daily that I haven’t had a chance yet!
This book is Brigitta’s story which started when Luciana makes a prediction from the Telling Stones in the last book. Brigitta and Sister Fallyn go on an adventure at sea. I love Brigitta’s feisty personality! Rupert is like Robin Hood, and that’s all I’m going to say about that! Rupert and Brigitta make a great team together even when they don’t see it! This book has action galore and so much adventure that I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for the next book!
I highly recommend to anyone who read book 1 and like it, but I think any paranormal fan will enjoy this book because it has shifters, visions, magical powers, competition, and so much more! I love this series!

I'm really loving the titles for this series, great job there! So I Married a Sorcerer continues with the main thread of the series and the ladies of Isle of Moon. It almost felt like where one book ended the next began. I really love that in my series that closely connect. You don't really have to remember the prior book and what happened because you are still right there.
Now saying that I want you to know that So I Married a Sorcerer is it's own story with it's own characters. You just will enjoy the connectivity of them.
Brigitta will crack you up. She's such a strong character that puts others before herself. Rupert is just as caring he just tries to hide it. Of course he really doesn't do a good job of it. They are such great characters and you will feel the pull of their attraction right from the start.
Both Brigitta and Rupert have issues from their pasts that need to be dealt with and you might be a little surprised at how some things turn out. You'll also enjoy the visit with the characters from prior books and a new character too! I wonder what he's all about? Next book maybe? I'm not telling, read the two books in this series to find out.

So I Married a Sorcerer is the second book in The Embrace series by Kerrelyn Sparks.
We are treated to a love story that takes place on the high seas and a bit on dry land. Theirs secrets, drama, past wrongs that need writing, action, and romance.
Rupert, my heart broke for him and everything he has been through. Brigitta, is scared of her fate and knows it’s coming for her. These two where perfect for each other.
The romance starts out as a pirate romance, but turns into our heroine battling for the man she loves, but also for what is right. It’s sweet and passionate. I enjoyed Rupert and Brigitta together and how well they complemented each other. We see how a past changes a person, but also how beautiful life can be when you find something worth keeping and fighting for. We are also treated to a little side romance better Stefan and Sister Fallyn. I loved this romance as well.
I will say I figured out who Rupert was at the very beginning, but it didn’t upset me that I knew.
Expect plenty of adventure, passion, and danger plus we get to go into dragon territory and get a sneak peak at who fate will match next.

Macaroni and Cheese of the books. A great comfort book to get lost in.
I read a reviewer saying it was like an adult Disney story and I have to agree. By the end of it, everything wrapped up in a pretty package with a bow on top, it was very much like Disney.
That being said, I love Disney.
My time Disney at least, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, not this Frozen/Tangled drivel.

I was both so anxious to read this book and at the same time scared. First anxious because I loved the first book and couldn't wait to continue the story. But scared because I loved the first book and I didn't want this one to disappoint me and then lose one of my new paranormal series to look forward to. Rest assured, this was as fun a ride as I was expecting.But also nothing like I thought it would be! Sorcerers, pirates, traveling in the high seas, kidnapping, dragons, and another battle for a throne and the princess's heart. SO I MARRIED A SORCERER was packed full of entertainment. The world building is, again, original and fresh and it gives us a different glimpse of this world than what we saw in the first book. The plot and pacing are engaging and never dragging. I was glued to this story.
And then there's the characters. Main and side characters alike, what a great cast this is. Brigitta is one of the Embraced sisters from the Isle of Moon. Her embraced power is being able to tell when someone is hiding secrets and finding lost items. She knows pretty quickly that the evil pirate, Rupert, that has kidnapped her is hiding more than his fair share. He also may be the man she's supposed to marry because she can feel the connection between them. While Brigitta and Rupert start out in opposite sides of Rupert's revenge plans, their lives become intertwined in ways he wasn't expecting.
I don't want to give away what this is all about, so you'll have to read it to find out. I am so pleased with this novel because even though it was different than I thought it would be, it still delivered an amazing story with the exact feel that I wanted. While this was more of a slow burn romance, Brigitta and Rupert had plenty of chemistry sizzling the pages. The overall story arc kept me interested and since I'm so invested in the rest of the sisters, I cannot wait for the next one to find her love match.

I absolutely loved this book!
Briggita is captured by the pirate Rupert in is attempt to avenge his family’s deaths. However, he’s not at all what she thought a pirate would be like. He’s a Wind Sorcerer and uses his skills to defeat his enemy while at sea.
Rupert’s plan is to take over the country that was brutally stolen from him and his family. While doing so he didn’t expect to feel such a strong connection to one of the people he should hate. Briggita is a strong determined woman who showcases her individuality as well as wisdom and ability to solve puzzles at every turn. Rupert is hard pressed to stay away from her.
This story kept me engaged the entire time and I never wanted to set it down. There was always something new around the corner, another hurdle for this couple to overcome or mystery to solve. I enjoyed getting to know both of these characters separately as well as together as a couple.
Fast paced, full of quick wit and interesting secondary characters, I fell in love with every word in this book.

'So I Married a Sorcerer' by Kerrelyn Sparks is Book Two in "The Embraced" Series. This is the story of Brigitta and Rupert. Brigitta along with some other young girls were brought to the Isle of Moon when they were very young. This was their save haven from trouble that was looking to find them. They all became 'Sisters' and lived at the Convent of the Two Moons. Now in their present day they are traveling aboard a ship to visit with their 'Sister" Queen Luciana who found her happy ending and now is about to give birth. Along with the sister traveling with them is Mother Ginessa. Brigitta is unsettled by a predication that her and her sister found out about in the Telling Stones they created. It tells that Brigitta will meet seven suitors in eight months and it revolved around the Royal Colors of Tourin. Well the time frame is here and Brigitta is worried for her future. When the ship they are on is stopped buy the Royal Navy Guards of Tourin Brigitta knows something is wrong. When confronting Mother Ginessa...she finally tells her that She/Brigitta is a Royal Princess of Tourin. And that her half brother Gunther is looking for her. We learn that Gunther is not a good person and that he killed the Brigitta younger brother and rightful Heir to become the King.
Rupert spies on Gunther and learned that he was looking for his sister that everyone thought was dead. Now Rupert to is looking for her and he arrives at the ship about the same time as Gunther's men. But Rupert is looking for revenge and Brigitta is the key. Rupert met Brigitta before when she was a baby and even then she had a calming effect on him which appears she still effects him.
I loved the first book in this series and this book didn't disappoint either! I truly enjoyed their story and hope to read more in this series soon. I am so curious about each sister and their stories.

Well for starters, I loved this story and it built onto the last one very nicely BUT I have to admit I was getting a bit sick of so much "non-violence" I was starting to feel like it was propaganda.
See, I read for entertainment and NOT enlightenment, if I want to get preached to I will go to a church or something. I do not want to see it in books I read for entertainment. If there is some evil slime who deserves to die, I want him dead. Is that too much to ask?
Another thing I tend to dislike is the same evil character in each book, this is going to get old in a hurry.
All that aside it WAS a great story, I loved the main couple and I loved the secondary characters which is where many novels fall flat but this one has a bevy of characters to enjoy.
Bottom Line: A great story, the WAY overdone lack of violence and a bit of "something good in everyone" which was used in one of the poorest turnarounds I have seen in years and if the story had not been so good I would have subtracted another star. but since it WAS a great story I give it 4 Stars and can't wait for the next one.

I love the way this author thinks and the stories she tells. They are out there and at the same time they are your love stories.
It's drawing time for Brigitta's telling stone future to come to pass and she isn't at all echoed.
This could be a coincidence or for real but she has this gut feeling that whatever it is it will be bad.

Fantastic second book! It has a great flow to it and some great new characters. It just kind of sucks you into the story and doesn't let go.

My TBR, aka the Mountain, has been a scary place where ARCs have been known to disappear if one is not careful. So it was with this ARC, and I only realized I had it when I went to review the next book in the series. Oops. So, my apologies for the way late review.
Having said that, this book was….cute. I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first book, since it tended to be a bit repetitious, the love is just as insta but without the followup scenes to really make me believe in that love that the first book had. Like the first book however, the pacing is much the same - starts strong and peters out for a bit, then turns into a bone-jarring race to the finish.
I liked it enough that I’m still interested in reading the next book and I’d recommend if you’re a Kerrelyn Sparks fan and have read the first book, or if you have an interest in a mix of fantasy/historical/paranormal romances in general. Onto the next.

I was sold at pirate.
I was worried at first that this book would follow the same pattern as the first book, but it doesn't so yay! I really liked the story and plot to this one and feel it was done better than the first. Still, the ending seemed almost too much of an HEA, but wasn't as over the top as I feel the first is done.
This couple is very much, insta-love. Girl, he kidnapped you... dislike him a little bit, maybe???
But, I think they are cute. I don't understand her power too much, but oh well. The side couple honestly almost stole the show for me-- you go, Sister!! ;)

Bleh.
Brigitta was this Pollyanna-ish moron, and Rupert felt overly 2 dimensional. I'm shocked at how much I disliked this one, when I just loved the first one. But by the end, I could barely stomach it... Especially Brigitta's naive bullshit. And then somehow the bad guy found a heart of gold and it all worked out in this fluffy pink melodramatic, saccharine, implausibly perfect way.
So much ugh.
Because I liked the first so much, I'm going to give book 3 a chance. But first I need to change it up a little, because I'm gagging on the syrupy sweet shit

Another exciting and entertaining tale in the Embraced series! This story picks up shortly after the end of the previous book (How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days). Brigitta and remaining "sisters" have left the Isle of Moon and are traveling to visit their sister Luciana and her husband Leo. Brigitta and her "sisters" are all embraced and each have been abandoned on the Isle of Moon by their families - the embraced are feared by the people of Aerthlon, if exposed it would mean certain death. But now that Luciana and Leo are ruling the kingdom of Eberon and are both embraced, their home is a safe haven. However, fate has other plans for Brigitta, who like all the other girls has no knowledge of her life/family before coming to the Isle of Moon. On the way to Eberon, Brigitta learns the truth of her past - she is Princess Brigitta, her half-brother Gunther is King of Tourin and he wants her back.
During the standoff with the Tourinian Navy, the pirate Rupert swoops in and kidnaps Brigitta, he has a vendetta against her brother and will not rest until he sees him destroyed - he plans to hold Brigitta for ransom. But when they meet and she touches him, Brigitta is overcome and faints - Brigitta's gift is the ability to find lost/hidden items and this includes memories, so when she touched Rupert, she was overwhelmed by grief, pain and loss. Rupert is also embraced and he has the power to control the wind. His sole mission in life is to avenge his family and destroy King Gunther. Gunther needs an heir, so he has concocted a plan, he will host a completion and the winner will get to father his heir - that is why he needs Brigitta. And that is exactly why Rupert doesn't want to turn her over to him.
Everything starts to fall into place for Brigitta, who Rupert is, what her family has done and what she has to do to make it right. She tells Rupert that she will help him regain his throne, she convinces him to return her to Gunther and enter the competition himself. Although he doesn't want to have Brigitta anywhere near Gunther, he realizes that her plan has merit and when Leo and Luciana agree to help, it seems like Rupert might finally see his plan succeed.
This book is brimming with action, adventure, pirates, shifters, magic, dragons and secrets. It is well written, flows perfectly, it has some steamy love scenes, excellent secondary characters (Sister Fallyn - OMG - She is priceless!), cameos from Luciana and Leo, nail biting moments and finally a very well deserved HEA.
It is the second book in the series, but it could easily be read as a stand alone title. The only reason I gave this book 4.5 stars instead of 5 is because it is billed as a Historical Paranormal/Fantasy Romance, but the dialogue is definitely not historical, but in all honesty, it didn't really diminish my enjoyment of the story.

Another exciting and entertaining tale in the Embraced series! This story picks up shortly after the end of the previous book (How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days). Brigitta and remaining "sisters" have left the Isle of Moon and are traveling to visit their sister Luciana and her husband Leo. Brigitta and her "sisters" are all embraced and each have been abandoned on the Isle of Moon by their families - the embraced are feared by the people of Aerthlon, if exposed it would mean certain death. But now that Luciana and Leo are ruling the kingdom of Eberon and are both embraced, their home is a safe haven. However, fate has other plans for Brigitta, who like all the other girls has no knowledge of her life/family before coming to the Isle of Moon. On the way to Eberon, Brigitta learns the truth of her past - she is Princess Brigitta, her half-brother Gunther is King of Tourin and he wants her back.
During the standoff with the Tourinian Navy, the pirate Rupert swoops in and kidnaps Brigitta, he has a vendetta against her brother and will not rest until he sees him destroyed - he plans to hold Brigitta for ransom. But when they meet and she touches him, Brigitta is overcome and faints - Brigitta's gift is the ability to find lost/hidden items and this includes memories, so when she touched Rupert, she was overwhelmed by grief, pain and loss. She is determined to learn Rupert's secrets and when she does, she wants to right the wrongs of the past.
Rupert is also embraced and he has the power to control the wind. His sole mission in life is to avenge his family and destroy King Gunther. Rupert's father was King of Tourin and Gunther's father proposed an alliance between the families, Prince Ulfric would be betrothed to Brigitta. On the way home from the ceremony, Rupert's father was ambushed and killed, troops were then sent to his home to kill his mother and younger brother. Rupert was saved by a family retainer and has spent the last 19 years plotting his revenge. Brigitta is a dilemma he doesn't need, but when he learns her brother's true plans for her, he cannot return her to him.
Gunther needs an heir, so he has concocted a plan, he will host a completion and the winner will get to father his heir - that is why he needs Brigitta. And that is exactly why Rupert doesn't want to turn her over to him.
Everything starts to fall into place for Brigitta, who Rupert is, what her family has done and what she has to do to make it right. She tells Rupert that she will help him regain his throne, she convinces him to return her to Gunther and enter the competition himself.
