“The memories will destroy you. The visions will kill you. And the dreams will become your prison.”

In the year 3103, the world has been divided between the magic wielding Fey and glamorously futuristic Tech. But none of that matters when you are cursed without abilities like Jessica. Having lost her parents long ago to an event called the Surge, Jessica and her younger sister Ivy are sent to live with their stepmother for seven painful years… Until Jessica receives a message to become one of seven Possessors of the Keys to the KindNet.

Feasts, luxury, best friends, and a special ability that was hidden in Jessica for so long. But the Possessors’ Headquarters is not what it seems, and it will take more than waking up to escape this nightmare…

Fear, betrayal, and anger will come together to make this sci-fi fantasy novel, where your shadow is your worst fear.

I loved how Aliyaa makes us feel. She describes emotions and situations very, very well (it gives you chills). I also really liked the friendships and sister aspects of the book and I was rooting for Jessica. However (and that's just me), I didn't like the magic elements. I don't like them in any book nowadays (I don't like the fantasy genre that much) so that's why I can't give it five stars. It's still a really good book that needs more attention.

Though it starts off slow, it picks up quickly. Really mysterious and suspenseful as it moves along and ends with a big boom! Initial thoughts: must be a fairytale retelling, but NOPE! It was a different story that I found pretty AWESOME!
The main character, Jessica, is brave and caring and her "abilities" were very cool and unique. The book kept me flipping through the pages fast near the end! Definitely a good read!

I think this book holds much potential and it’s very fluent. I feel that in the beginning it drags slightly but isn’t the same thing over and over again like other books.
The characters descriptions were immaculate and you could almost feel them or see them. My favourite character was Amani because she was different to the rest and was quite reserved, but still had a side to her that only some were granted to see. She had a prowess about her that drew me towards her.

Another character I really liked was Teddy. He was so kind and caring yet her had a fire about him. I thought him and Jessica were a good pairing and complimented each other perfectly but not in a romantic sense; more of a “partners in crime” sort of thing.
At points in the book I felt quite immersed and at others less so.
One thing I love and hated about the book was Venelopes death. That description stuck with me even after u had finished it. She was an amazing character that was heavily involved in the groups plans.

I thought the chief was a very sinister yet lovable character. She was loveable in the sense that she captivated you and drew you close before deceiving you and capturing you. Also the chief is very cunning and plans everything carefully, making sure she is one step ahead of everyone else. Well this is my review. Let me know what you think and correct me if I have made any errors.

The author of this book sent me a copy as a part of a review exchange. In other words, she could review my book if I review hers. Which is why I'm doing this.
So... what do we have here? Well, at first glance some people might say: "I didn't know there was a new Harry Potter book!". I certainly did. Partly because one of the few books that I've read is Harry Potter and partly because the introduction is eerily similar. The resemblance is visible to the naked eye. As of currently, I have no idea how far she wants to take this book, but judging by the cover and the fact that she has an editor and a publishing house behind her, I suspect she wants to take it very far. I sincerely hope she does, because her style of writing is vibrant, her descriptions are detailed and full of life, her vocabulary is... I'd dare to say godlike. You can tell that she's done quite a bit of browsing through dictionaries to find the exact word for the exact sentence in the exact paragraph. There's a plethora of characters with their own distinctive personalities. What I find difficult is adapting to and remembering them, because there's so many of them.
Normally I don't give a rating to anything, but seeing as there's an option, I might as well use it. I'm giving it 4 stars because of the resemblance to Harry Potter. I cannot remember if she told me it was her first book, but for a first effort... saying that it's brilliant would be a cliché. I'd rather say... that she's got a bright future ahead of her.
